This used to be one of my favorite places to have lunch in Mount Vernon, but after owner changes and fiddling with prices, I just can't anymore. The lunch specials are gone. The prices have gone up $3-$4 per item in just a couple of years. I had lunch there and the hot stone is now $19.99. The bowl was half filled at best and there was almost no beef; just little bits with little to no flavor at all. I took a photo of the largest piece I could find. The miso soup tasted like someone added old socks to the broth. Overall I am just sad. I would not be surprised if the restaurant is at the end of its days, which is sad for someone who has been going since it was first opened. read more

Well as an end of year lunch date with hubby we stopped here for lunch. Yes we saw the sign that the place was under new management and we thought if it is half as good as the previous ownership we will be able to have a good end of year lunch date. The hubby loves spicy food and I enjoy indulging his cravings every now and again. Since the menu had shrimp, tempura egg rolls etc I figured I'd make it a full on deep fried platter for me. Anyway the waitress was a cute giggly gal as sweet as could be. This is the only great thing about the restaurant. She brought us tea, but no, not any water whatsoever. We had to hunt her down for that halfway through our meal. My hubby orders and I order and we wait. There is only one other table of two. Our meals are finally on the table some 20 minutes after we arrived. My platter is pathetically over fried. Every single item was over cooked and the shrimp was a dry stick over fried and was only edible once soaked in dipping sauce. The chicken bites had been pre fried and spent the day under heat lamp to be refried upon my order. The egg rolls had old vegetables that had shared space with something pickled items making an odd taste that collided with the old egg roll wrappers that had to be dipped into some kind of water the pocked mark wrapper was so bubbled and pocked from refrying with the crab cream cheese which had the worse sour taste of rotten cheese. I ate the shrimp and hubby attempted to eat the remainder of the platter. The gyoza was some sort of pre ground pork or chicken the entire inside was slimy. Husband said his meal was ok but nothing special and the dismal amount of meat was unidentifiable visually. The spicy pickled sides were mediocre and unremarkable. The low quality rice had no taste whatsoever and only the dipping sauce solved its blandness. The loud noises of construction was simply annoying along with the odd 1970's Christmas music. The table was clean . But the plates for the sides were covered with fingerprints. The tea was ok. The water tasted of the normal sterilization solution. There is absolutely zero reason to return. It was unfortunate that we wasted $50 for a lunch on the last day of 2025. I waited a few days to write a review simply to gather my thoughts about the past experience and how in less than 2 years this place went to the best Korean BBQ place to the bottom of the very long list of places we have eaten at in the last 20 years. read more

Arrived for a late lunch. Initially requested for regular table but then a person in my party decided they wanted BBQ table. Had to ask the waitress to change the table from regular to BBQ. She didn't look too happy about the change despite my apologies that she now had to move the water and plates/utensils to the BBQ table instead. We informed her before the table was even finished being set up and she has yet to call us to get seated. Already it felt a bit not friendly but we noticed there's only 2 waitresses for the entire restaurant so we won't lower the star rating because of insufficient staffing. Ordered BBQ set for 3 because our team doesn't eat a lot especially with folks on restricted meat diets and 1 kid who barely eats at all. It would have been nice if they were thoughtful to bring out extra bowl but we had to ask. The banchan was good, especially the kim chi and broccoli. We appreciated the willingness to refill. The flavor was on point and I recommend the kim chi. Loved it. Wish there was a bit more variety. Perhaps COVID has lowered the number of dishes available. We had to grill everything ourselves, there was no assistance in cutting up the meat and auto change out of the grill at midpoint, something we were used to seeing at other places, but again, it seemed they were a bit short on staff. Salad portion was very small for a $90 BBQ for a BBQ set that's meant for 3, especially since it's cheap lettuce. Meat was good and plenty and flavored well. It was enough to keep us full. We received white rice instead of purple rice, would have preferred that instead. Will try the purple rice next time we're back. Totally understand that rice is expensive now and there was no refill like the good old days for rice. Would come back to try the non BBQ dishes. The tofu soup was flavored well but did not have an egg included. Thus, curious to see how other dishes compare to Korean food in Federal Way/Tacoma/Seattle area. Finally went here tonight! The servers were so friendly and helpful! If you are not comfortable with metal chopsticks let them know at the beginning of the meal and they will grab you a fork. A KBBQ spot in downtown Mount Vernon. It is the only Korean restaurant in the city and serves tasty food. You can pick either a regular or BBQ table. The prices for the meats in the barbeque seemed slightly pricey so we opted for entrées. All five banchans were refillable. ----- Seafood Pancake: squid, shrimp, onions, and green onions ($18.99). The pancake was delicious. It was largely sized and adequately topped with seafood. Batter was pan fried well and oily but had the perfect crispiness. ----- Sundubu: spicy beef broth w/ silk tofu, vegetable, egg, and choice of pork, seafood, veggie, or combo (+$1). Served w/ 4 side dishes and steamed rice ($16.99). A hearty stew to have on a cold and cloudy day. I picked pork as my protein. It was loaded with soft tofu and the spicy level was mild to me. The egg was missing from my sundubu. ----- Reservations are accepted. Each table has a call button, but the service on a weekend lunch was frequent enough that it was not used. We were up there at the tulip festival and wanted some Korean food. I quickly yelped any nearby ones and this restaurant came up. First of all, the waitress was super sweet and they were very Covid safe. We ordered soondooboo, bulgogi, and yukkae-jhang. Wow. Everything was on point. The flavor, the service, the portions. I am a soondooboo snob as I eat this often and I have to say this place nailed it. The bulgogi was also authentic and so flavorful, and the yukkae-jhang had huge pieces of beef and tons of veggies in it. This is my favorite restaurant in Skagit County! The food is amazing, as well as the atmosphere and service. If you've never had Korean BBQ, you are missing out! It is so fun to sit over a grill and bbq your own meat as you chat with your date, friends, family, whomever. You can grill a bit as you go, so everything is always hot and cooked to your own liking. You'll get plenty of (bottomless!) banchan (side dishes) like kimchi, eomuk (fish cakes), japchae (sweet potato starch noodles with veggies), pickled onions, and many more! The banchan can be eaten on their own, or together with the meat and rice to add some additional crunch and bursts of flavor to your bite (this is how I eat it- gimme allll the flavors!). Not to be overlooked are their other amazing dishes, such as the bibimbap: rice served in a hot stone bowl (a must-- the rice on the bottom gets deliciously crunchy!) with meat and veggies and a fried egg on top-- mix it up and add gochujang to your personal taste. It's a dish that's beautiful in its simplicity and amazing flavors. Or try the variety of delicious, flavorful and healthy soups (my fave is the kimchi-jjigae, or kimchi stew). If you're over 21 (and not driving lol), also enjoy some Korean beer or soju with your meal! There's nothing like grilling meat and having a drink while you dine with friends. The fact is that being the ONLY Korean BBQ restaurant within the 40 miles radius, they really don't care about their reputation. They only care about clocking out by 8 pm. Great fast and kind service, all dishes had great flavor and were fast and hot! The Banchan(side dishes) were very flavorful and even asked for some to pack up with our left overs and they were more than willing and happy to do so for us. I went there this week with my wife and mother. The place was clean and cute and all the food taste very fresh and delicious. I asked the server to tell me a bit more about the restaurant and she said that it's owned by one woman who does all the cooking on her own. So the food is very authentic and delicious, but in busy times you may end up waiting a bit because of the nature of her business. Server was very nice, banchan was somewhat limited.
