Went to Double D's for my birthday had surf and turf special yum. Warm bread at start of meal very nice touch boyfriend had prime rib. He was happy seasoned well and good size portion. Brought my own wine (we're from Sonoma county) green glass didn't effect the experience. I actually enjoyed all the color on the table. It was nice going someplace that didn't fall into your typical steak house decor. Next time I'm up this way this will definitely be one of my stops read more

Love it. Your tab can end up a little pricey but you definitely get your moneys worth. I love that they serve you antipasti, bread, soup, raviolis and salad all before dinner. The drinks are good and the plates of food are good sized portions. I had the filet minon and it was delicious. I recommend it for a nice night out. read more

Last night a bunch of us went to Double D Steak for a birthday party. I found the service to be slow, the clam chowder tasted burned, (we informed the waitress and she was lovely about it, but we didn't want more or to switch to the vegetable beef soup) and my Brussels sprouts were cold. Not lukewarm, but cold, which isn't all that surprising with the slow service, which I blame the kitchen for since my steak was hot and delicious. The tab was exuberant for the experience we had, and I probably won't be suggesting any future parties there unless I hear that there is a cook who recognizes the smell of burned food and can get the entire plate out while it's all hot. I want it noted that our waitress was wonderful and kind. No complaints about her. read more

The positives have to be highlighted by the sheer quantity of food you get. The prices for dinner are in the $20-$40 range which is typical for steaks/fish in the larger urban area I'm from but they don't normally come with an antipasti plate, raviolis, soup, salad and bread.....before you actually get to the main course. In other words, they probably don't sell a lot of desserts since i have to figure most folks are done by the end of their entrée. On the Tuesday night we were there, we also got a floor show (!) in the form of a long table ordering flaming shots which one of them spilled on their hand, lightly themselves and the table on fire. While it was quickly extinguished, I'm sure the poor young lady who ended up with a bag of ice on her burnt hand won't look back fondly on that evening's meal. This isn't any fault of the business....just mentioning as I've never seen that happen before. On the down side....the room was extremely warm. We had the window next to our table open but it was still not comfortable. I wasn't a huge fan of the vegetable beef soup or the simple salad...but you can tell they make an effort and that's a big deal to me. The folks that had the blue cheese sirloin were very pleased while my rib eye was cooked to my liking but was salty and tougher than it should have been. Last thing.....a meal with that many courses is going to take time to complete. We were there for 90 minutes but could see how it could take upwards of 2 hours for those who did more chatting between courses. read more

Service was very poor. Had to wait 20 minutes for our table when reservations were made and confirmed many hours earlier. Some how they ran out of salad prior to our meals arriving which was part of the meal. They did not even offer to discount the meal price for the lack of no salad. The meal which I had chicken fettuccine was cold when it arrived and had no flavor. Worst meal and service experience that I have ever had. Not going back. Why can't Fortuna learn from the real restaurants like the Ivanhoe or Ferndale pizza Co? read more

Very disappointing. The entire meal reminded me of boot camp. A lot of mediocre food to mask poor quality. I had seafood pasta that was a bowl of over cooked noodles flooded with clam chowder and some salad shrimp. The salads were flooded with dressing, even after asking for dressing on the side. We had dinner here on a recent visit and it was quite lovely. It was busy the night we went, but we found the staff very attentive to us and our food preferences. I had the steelhead and it was some of the best fish I've ever tasted. Yummy! My guy had a steak and he enjoyed it. What would have made it better is that he ordered it medium rare and like another reviewer mentioned it was barely rare. So, they need to tighten up on that. I would have sent the steak back if it had been served to me that way. But my guy was hungry and didn't want to wait and then have to eat alone. Misstep for a steak house. Delish!!!! The salad,soup,bread,ravioli and cheese they bring out first will hold you over till you get your dinner and ours came out in perfect timing.I had filet mignon and my husband had porterhouse both seasoned and cooked great. The ribs are cooked to perfection and fall right off the bone! The food has so much flavor kudos to the chef! read more

My wife and I wanted to go here on the recommendation of our youngest Son. We went with another couple last Friday who had never been there before either. We each ordered different menu items for dinner and the service was great. The food was awesome, cooked to perfection, great drinks too. A pleasant surprise. Loin filet, Filet minion, stuffed petrale sole, and triple shimp were ordered. The courses included were a great touch you won't see anymore at most restaurants. Slow service traditional to the town, it seams. But great food. High end atmosphere at a mid-level price.

Great place to eat. The food was never ending and delicious. I had the Shrimp platter and a tequila sunrise. you definitely get your moneys worth here. The only complaint I have is the seating and it kind of feels cramped. Other than that I definitely recommend coming here for dinner. read more

We got a table fairly quickly. The food was very "blah". The "antipasto" salad consisted of two sticks of brown, aged celery, two tiny sticks of carrots, two pieces of salami, 2 peppercinis and 2 tiny tiny cubes of cheese. It was seriously laughable. Our waitress was one of the worst I've ever experienced. We waited at our table for 20 mins before anyone whatsoever came over and gave us a water or asked us for our drink orders. Once we actually were attended to, she didn't come back to us except for one more time the entire meal. I had to go to the bar in the middle of dinner just to get drinks for myself and my husband as we didn't feel like waiting another half hour for basic service. Another patron got up from his table three times to ask for someone to come to their table... A six year old, very well behaved boy next to us asked his parents "why is this taking so long?" We ordered the grilled oysters and we LOVE oysters...6 of the worst oysters I've ever had. Shells everywhere... Picking them out of your mouth. The worst things were: the service, the Shelly messy oysters, the cold soup that I swear is from a can, the "steak" fries that are the crimped frozen fries you can most certainly buy from winco supermarket. The better things: the bartender was great, attentive, and asked us if we were ok and if she could do anything when I had to go to the bar to get my own drink, the filet mignon was pretty good but definitely had the sense it had been sitting for a while, and the bread was good. Overall, would not ever come back and was really disappointed. Please someone in humboldt county open a yummy, well maintained restaurant!!!! read more

My friend and I arrived right at opening time (5:00) without a reservation on a Saturday night of a week-end when a special event was taking place. Town was busy and so was the restaurant. We were seated immediately at a table next to the kitchen door. Tables were so close together than we had to squeeze by excusing ourselves for bumping into other diners. Service was prompt, too prompt as though they wanted us to hurry up, eat and leave. It was so noisy and hot that we were glad to get outside. We didn't order drinks, just water w/no ice and a lemon slice. Water temperature was warm not even cool. My friend ordered the ribeye w/ vegetables (barely warm) and I ordered the prime rib w/yukon "baked" potatoes (barely warm). Lots of fat on both pieces of meat and so much salt on the ribeye that she couldn't finish it. The ribeye was a very thin cut, more like a breakfast steak and not what was expected. Soup was lukewarm and more broth than the few chunks of potato and carrot slices. Ravioli was so-so w/sauce that tasted like it came from a can. Antipasto consisted of 2 pieces of thinly sliced salami, 2 small cubes of cheddar and jack each, 2 pepperoncinis, 2 slices of celery and carrot each. I can hear the instructions, "Put on the plate enough for each guest to have one of everything." Salad was all lettuce with a few garbanzo beans and 2 paper-thin slices of tomato with a little grated cheese sprinkled on top. The bread was good. Will I go back? Probably not. read more

I came in last Saturday with some friends for a dinner party and first impression wasn't good! The place was dirty and for it being fairly early not long after opening time, it should still have been somewhat clean. The window seat was crowded with not much leg room. The carpets not vacuumed and the seats had food on them. Nevertheless that was just first impression but now time to experience the food. Our server seemed pleasant and came out promply. I ordered the seafood pasta and my husband had the Oscar steak. My pasta wasn't warm and took too long to receive. My husband enjoyed his steak even tho it was also cold. Our server didn't attend to us very often and must have forgot my cocktail cause it took 30 min before I received it and when I did it was watered down. With alot of good reviews I expected much better service and a hot plate of delicious food especially for the price. I guess the place is a hit and miss. read more

Had dinner here for the first time after hearing good comments from friends and neighbors. Started with a cocktail at the bar, didn't catch the bartenders name but she makes fantastic drinks! Had a whiskey sour at the bar and an old fashioned with dinner. Top notch! She didn't skimp on whiskey. For dinner I had the chicken cordon bleu while my girl had the bacon bleu top sirloin. Her steak was done to perfection, and my chicken was fantastic. Every course of our meals from the antipasto plate to the dessert was top notch. Our server, Kelly, was top notch as well. We got there early in the evening and the ambiance in the bar was casual and comfortable. The dining room is very nice as well. My only advice to would be to turn the dining room music down a bit, as the place fills up with customers the music is a bit overbearing. And ditch the mason jar water glasses!! Too tacky for a nice dinner house. Those two minor things aside, this place is definitely 5 stars read more
