    Crab sandwich

Super cute, casual seaside restaurant. Lots of outdoor seating making it perfect for a warm day. The vibes were great with friendly staff and a general happiness about the place. Lunch was super tasty. Ice cold beer, crab sandwiches. What could you ask for? Definitely stop by if you're in the area.

Another great diner by the water! The view is amazing by the window and the outdoor patio. Friendly staff. My boyfriend ordered a BLT which he enjoyed (so he says). I ordered the special grilled crab sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. They packed nicely seasoned fresh crab in a perfectly toasted bread. The side of slaw was a tad sweet and it went so well with the sandwich! The mimosa was super sized and it was enjoyable! Would love to return on our next road trip.

Lots of sea wildlife hanging and lining the walls.

I was greeted so kindly as a single guest. I had options of deck (which was packed) booths or the bar. I chose the bar. I was served quickly and had a great experience watching the back and front of house run. It's a very homey vibe which I love. The food was great. I normally can't finish a meal and I had the special crab benedict with potatoes. Oh yeah I finished it. I also had some coffee and a mimosa. I liked it so much I got a shirt. Will be back.

Found this diner on YELP. It was everything and more. It was fathers day so the place was busy. They have a large outdoor patio and pretty big indoor area. We sat at the counter to watch the waitstaff dance. Busy but not Crazy. Everyone was friendly we had a beer and the famous hot-crab sandwich. I will definitely atop here again when I am in the neighborhood.

Blackened sole and delicious potato salad.

Perfect day with a perfect lunch. View is awesome and food is solid. Our service was spot on.

Excellent food and service. We sat on the patio and watch the water and sea gulls. The special was a grilled crab sandwich that was loaded with tons of crab meat. We also had fish and chips that was cooked to perfection. The waitress was friendly. I would definitely go back!

Ask the Community - Gill's By The Bay

Do they serve gluten free dishes?

    Yes!

Are they open for table service (June 2020)? Heading to the area...long drive and we'd like to go straight there so need to know in advance. No answer when calling during yelp posted biz hours.

    We're still closed

Do they serve the entire menu (breakfast and lunch) all day?

They open at 7am and serve breakfast until 11am I believe and they close at 3pm.

At what time do they stop serving breakfast and start serving lunch, noon?

We only serve breakfast till 11:30

The staff at Trinidad Bay Eatery were all exceptionally kind and appeared to genuinely engage with their guests. The atmosphere is exactly what one would hope for in a coastal eatery. We ordered clam chowder, fish and chips, and a chicken ciabatta sandwich. The chowder was excellent and among the top chowders I've ever enjoyed. The fish and chips were plentiful and the quality and thickness of the fish were unmatched. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her sandwich and fries with a California branded malt vinegar. We HIGHLY recommend stopping by!

But when a restaurant…read moresays it's dog-friendly and then for two days straight there are no dog-friendly seating options available, it does make you wonder what "dog-friendly" really means. Okay, fine -- maybe dogs aren't allowed in certain areas, not a big deal. So we figured we'd just order the food to go instead. Nope. Two days in a row we were told they couldn't do takeout. At that point, it just felt like there was zero flexibility or willingness to work with customers. That's really disappointing, especially for a place with such a good reputation. Unfortunately, the lack of flexibility is what lost us.

We were served right away and the hostess was very nice and located at two top for us. The wait person was lovely and immediately accommodating. The menu was interesting and inviting. I had to laugh out loud as there is an item on the menu referencing Pee-wee's Playhouse from my childhood. I even asked if it was a Gen X restaurant and sure enough the chef is of my generation. I'm including a picture so IYKYK! The waitress had shared all of the specials, and I was intrigued by the flat iron steak option. It was a flat iron steak with marsala mushroom sauce, and mushroom risotto and asparagus. It was delightful! The meat was perfectly cooked and tender with a lot of beef flavor, offset by a rich marsala mushroom sauce. It was perfectly complimented by one of the top mushroom risotto I have had in my life. It was delectable. And the grilled asparagus side paired nicely with the beef and marsala sauce. It even had a little bit of lemon on the asparagus, which is my preference for it! Overall, this is probably in the top five of all of the restaurant meals I've had in my life. My husband had the mixed beef burger with fries. He said he really enjoyed the burger, and I did steal a tiny taste, and it was perfectly cooked and had a slight gameness that gave it some depth. My husband said that the bun was very nice as well. The fries were perfectly cooked. The burger was perfectly cooked and it wasn't over juicing nor dry. Overall, a really great burger! Funniest thing we noticed was that all of the chairs that were sitting on a cement floor had been given rubber caps for each of the legs so that when you moved the chair, it didn't make a horrible sound. Literally extra 10 points for that alone! I wish this location well and look forward to stopping in the next time we are in the area.

I had oven roasted salmon with what was supposed to be a teriyaki glaze on top but it was more like a syrup. The mushroom risotto was good. The pizzas that we ordered were good. I found this restauraunt on Yelp and we reserved it for my birthday dinner on a Saturday night. We sat by the window and had a beautiful view of the sunset and bay. Upon being seated we were served some bread with some whipped butter mixed with some sort of seafood I believed? I forgot, but the butter was delicious. Our first round of bread however, was average at best and was very dense and doughy. The next rounds of bread were significantly better though, so maybe there's an inconsistency with the way they bake their bread in-house. I ordered the seafood penne pasta and my boyfriend ordered the king salmon with risotto. Both were "specials" and were not on the menu. However after digging into reviews here, it seems they are not so much specials since both dishes have been served here for the past 7ish years. Seafood penne pasta: I would rate a 3/5, maybe a 2.5/5. The pasta itself was not al dente which was disappointing. The "star" of this dish was supposed to be the scallop, which was severely undercooked! It was super soft and mushy. The shrimp was alright...some were overcooked. The salmon was also dry. I think the only thing I really enjoyed was the mussels, clams, and the sauce. The sauce had some curry with a small kick to it. This dish was just okay. Escargot: We ordered as our appetizer, I'd give it a 3.5/5! The escargot was a little soft but paired wonderfully with the bread. Creme brûlée: 3/5. Our waitress kindly put a birthday candle on it for my birthday. :) I enjoyed it, and it was very custardy! The downside was that the sugar on top was too burnt. I can't speak much for my boyfriend's dish, I did have a bite of his salmon and it was alright, maybe a bit too salty. The service however was wonderful and our waitress was super kind and helpful. Maybe I would come back to try another dish if I'm back in the area.

I got to enjoy what I long for all year. The food was, as always a 10 out of 10. Shout out to the amazing chef who made the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo. Another shout out to Alexis, who brought us a mini loaf of the most delicious brioche bread that comes with the dinner; because what we ordered didn't include the bread we asked if we could have it and she made it happen. The place is not the cheapest, but very reasonable given the high quality of food and service, the wait is a bit on the long-ish side (the food makes up for it) and I still can't think of a better place to have an excellent dinner with an even more excellent ambiance. 100 out of 100.
