This restaurant has been around for a long time. They always have the best quality and best portions when it comes to Chinese food up here in Albany. Service is always very quick unless it's a holiday and they get really busy. They will usually give you a a time frame of when the food will be ready for pick up. My favorite is their general Tso's chicken and cheese wontons. Prices are insanely cheap for today's economy. I can't even go to McDonald's without spending $50 on my family of four. I never leave bad reviews but they have earned this one. I placed an order for two orders of egg foo young. I got home and they forgot the gravy. I do not live near the restaurant and could not go back to get the sauce. When I called they knew they forgot the sauce, but their solution was to offer me a 15% discount on my next order. I told them that was not acceptable, as the order was wrong and then they offered a refund for one order...still not acceptable, the meal was not right and who wants egg foo young without the gravy. I wanted both orders refunded, or the gravy delivered. Neither would they do. They admitted their mistake but would not do the right thing and expected me to pay for their mistake. So, this review. I will never go back, I paid cash and left a tip for food that won't be enjoyed, and I told them I would write this review. This place should be shut down! They are back to lying to customers when I called to order two items to be picked up. When I arrived 30 minutes later, the time the little girl who takes the orders told me to arrive, she told me that they were running late and had NO idea when my food would be ready. It was 40 minutes later, so I decided to make the owners and the counter feel the anger of all the waiting customer( a room full) by confronting the counter girl and owner about their deception. Lots of apologies. This went on over a year ago when I stopped going there. They are still at it. As I was leaving I heard a customer being told that her order of shrimp was not included, because they ran out of shrimp. Actually they ran out of bok choy. Chinese don't used celery, they use bok choy. I cannot see any reason to every order here, for you and me. The food is at best a 2 out of 5 and their willingness to lie to take an order which they would not have gotten if they told the truth, means that nothing they tell is to be believed. This Chinese takeout restaurant has been around since I was in high school in the early 90s, one of the original tenants at Columbia Plaza which is anchored by a Price Chopper Super Center that opened in May 1988. Not sure if this place was named after the popular video game at the time, maybe a coincidence with great timing. Double Dragon was also one of my favorite video games at the arcade and for my NES. I spent many hours back in the day trying to master the game giving me a sore case of "nin-tendon-itis." ouch! Okay, the Chinese food here is very tasty specializing in Saechuan, Hunan, & Cantonese style dishes and they also offer special combination plates at very reasonable prices. The place is order at the counter with an open kitchen and table seating for dine-in. Lunchtime here can get quite busy. That's because Double Dragon currently offers 40 Special Luncheon Platters served with pork fried rice and choice of soup or can of soda, each only $3.99 plus tax (11AM-3PM daily). The service in the kitchen is fast and the portions are very generous and tasty. I get the L21 Shrimp Lo Mein with pork fried rice and a pint of hot & sour soup. The pork fried rice is light in color and taste, the hot & sour soup has more of a sweet taste than spicy. The lo mein has firm noodles with a good amount of shrimp. I love this place. My friends and I frequent the place often for their lunch specials. You get a huge portion of very tasty food along with either soup or soda for just $3.99.... a bargain. The staff is generally friendly and the food always tastes good to me.... I've never had a bad meal from this place, though one time I asked for plain fried rice and got pork fried rice (which is fine, it was good too). They take cash or check only, which is one way they keep their prices down. There are so few places to go to anymore where I can get a full meal with soup and an additional can of soda for around $5.00. This chinese take out restaurant has been serving the East Greenbush area for a little over 30 years. This was the very first place I ever had chinese food and I became hooked. Back then they even had the double dragon arcade cabinet you could play while waiting for your food. Chinese food was always a treat. Tonight I had my go to General Zaos chicken. The portions of chicken were large and very good. Not a ton od breading and mostly meat. The pork fried rice was a little bland. It was much better back in the day. Also I found the rice to be a bit sticky. The egg roll is just a typical chinese take out eggroll. Quite a bit of cabage inside. Any Double Dragon is a go to place in EG for cheap chinese take out. You get a choice of about 30 dishes including those with shrimp at no extra charge, a pint of soup (or eggroll) and your choice of white or pork fried rice. I had the shrimp with garlic sauce and curry shrimp. Each dish had about 8-10 medium/large shrimp and was done up right. They give you plenty of fried rice so if you aren't full after the soup and entree, that fried rice will have you leaving satisfied. Excellent value for a good meal. I used to really enjoy Double Dragon. I've ordered from there 10-15 times int the past 3 years. In the past few months (since November '09), the food has been inconsistent, with the noodle dishes looking and tasting totally different from one order to the next, and going from spicy to totally bland. I've also called in an order, been told 30 minutes, go to pick it up, and wait an additional 20-30 minutes. When that happens, I've been given free egg rolls as compensation, but since I don't eat meat, I can't eat them. I'd try them one more time before writing them off for good, because when I lived in Forrest Pointe, they were my first choice, and when I moved back to East Greenbush in July, I was excited to have them again, but haven't been happy the last few times. read more

If I could, I would have given this place negative stars. This place does have cheap food and 30+ varieties but it comes with poor quality and who-knows-what in the food (as experienced by many other reviewers on yelp). I ordered veggie lomein and specifically mentioned to the person at the counter multiple times to ensure there is no meat. While eating, I noticed meat in the food which was shocking and unethical especially when the manager was told that the food should have no meat. When I complained about this to the manager (Jerry Guo), he responded as: Anything can happen, I don't care, It is not my problem, and I cannot help it (his exact words). This rudeness and complete disregard for quality of food, cooking and customer service is unacceptable in a civilized society. Not bad at all! Fresh and is exactly what it says it is. Routine run of a mill Chinese take out. Nothing fancy, they just fill the gap perfectly. One of the problems I see with yelp is people tend to compare run of a mill take out to sit down. It's like comparing olive garden to your mom's cooking. This place is not gourmet, you are not going to get home-aid sauces and fancy cut vegetables, it is a basic Chinese take out place. The food is fresh, plentiful and has the type of flavor you would expect from sauces that are mass produced. The oil is changed regularly, the food does not taste smokey. This place was terrible. Literally everything we ordered seemed like it came from the freezer section of Sam's Club. The biggest clue should have been when we opened the sesame chicken and the pieces of chicken were all the exact same shape and size (reminiscent of fast food chicken nuggets) and simply tossed with sauce and sesame seeds. All white meat. Both clues that it came from a freezer bag. I seriously question the people that have given this place good reviews. I ordered the general tso combo which consisted of huge chunks of lightly breaded white meat chicken that you don't have to wonder if it's cat or not. The sauce was yummy but not spicy.
