I recently brought my 2012' VW Touareg in for an oil change and to check the brake pads. While that had it I also asked them to check the sunroof drains because it was leaking into the trunk. Hoping that this would be my long term care VW specialists but to no avail I was unpleasantly surprised. They not only charged me $600 for what should be $200 in parts but they said the sunroof won't open and to take it to the dealer. What?? I had never had any issues with the sunroof opening or closing. As of now my sunroof does still not open and also the dynamic headlights are not working. I have never had any issues with the sunroof opening and closing nor the dynamic headlights not working prior to this visit. Now I'm going to have to take it to the VW dealer to address these issues and potentially costing me thousands of dollars not to mention the time. read more

Double J is the a great option for Audi cair repair and maintenance. They have a convenient location, their prices are lower than the dealer, and the owner (David) is friendly, competent, and honest. We have an older Q5 that, honestly, has been a bit of a money pit for repairs. But we've mitigated that somewhat by taking it to Double J. Recently they did some work for us, and the car had a problem a day or two after we picked it up. It wasn't obvious that the problem was related to their work, but they were open minded about it. We eventually had the Audi Dealer diagnose the problem, but then after they diagnosed it, Double J readily agreed to fix the issue at no cost, and they even offered to reimburse us for the Audi dealer's diagnosis. read more

These guys are great, nuff said. I know next to nothing about cars, but I work with tons of people in my profession, and they are some of the best. Joey and SuperDave go the extra mile to make sure that my car is well-taken care of, that the work is done on time, and that it is affordable as well. They go out of their way to make sure that the customer is satisfied, which I really appreciate. Not only that, but they are willing to sit with you and discuss the ins and outs of your car for as long as you like. Which can take a while with me, and they don't mind a bit! I drove all of the way from Seattle to have DJM work on my 2008 VW R32 and I wasn't disappointed. They had been recommended by another R32 owner, and after having a few good phone conversations with them I decided to give them a try. I had them install an almost full exhaust (downpipes back), sway bars, and a UM engine and DSG tune. I wanted to dyno before and after and they took care of scheduling a local dyno for me AND came along with me to so how the car did. Their shop is clean, with plenty of parking, and nice, organized bays. Their shop rates, at least compared to Seattle, are very reasonable. Their staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. While it's certainly a trek, because of how much I care about my car, I would definitely go here again. In fact, I plan to for my 60k service later this year. On the same day I was there the driver of a 2004 R32 from just south of Seattle dropped his car off for some work too. Proceed with caution! Be cautious, the shop APPEARS to know what they are doing but be very careful! Here is my story: My 1996 GTI VR6 would not pass DEQ, so I needed some professional help. I normally do not take my cars to shops, but I don't have a VCDS/VagCom setup to diagnose emissions issues. I took the car in and they told me it would run about $200 to replace some vacuum lines to the secondary air pump and go from there. I received a call from the shop and they said I also needed to replace my plugs, wires and coilpack and was quoted $600+. The car ran fine before I took it to the shop, and when I picked up the car it barely started and barely ran. After driving a bit down the street I pulled over and I proceeded to plug the spark plug wires in all the way, cleared the 6 misfire codes, and the car ran properly ... just like it had before I took it in. So basically they wanted me to spend $600+ to replace parts that did not need to be replaced because they did not plug the spark plug wires back in (I guess they unplugged them when they removed the intake manifold to replace vacuum hose). I took the car back in, made the owner aware of the issue, and they were not prepared to make right. The car still would not pass DEQ, and they told me I would need to just leave it with them and spend more on diagnostic work. I was not about to let them touch my car again and have them charge me for it. Lesson is: be very cautious, I'd hate to see what they would have tried to charge if it were my wife taking the car in! read more

I drove waaaaay across town to see these guys based on the stellar reviews. Not blown away. I came in for a 20K miles service on my Jetta TDI and my only additional thing I asked them to check was brake noise (squealing). They gave me my keys back at the end and said nothing about the brakes. I asked the counter guy about the results of the brake check and specifically the state of the pads and he checked with the mechanic and the word back was that nothing was wrong with the brakes, and there was "plenty of pad left, front and rear." So I drove off with squealing brakes, oh well. A couple of weeks (no more than 200 miles) later I started hearing scraping coming from the rear brakes. I stopped driving the car and made an appointmet to come allllll the way back to Double J to have them looked at. Surprise surprise - the rear pads were shot and needed to be replaced immediately. Luckily the rotors are fine. I told them politely that I was annoyed that they did not find this during the 30K service a few weeks before, and their response was "maybe there is a dragging caliper or something." Um, okay. No acknowledgement of the possibility that they could have missed something on the 30K service. I understand that mistakes happen; what separates average businesses from great ones is when they own up and apologize. That goes a long way with me. I lost an extra half day traveling back there and waiting around. I've gotten equal or better attention to detail at Hillside Imports which is on my side of down, where I feel like I've gotten adequate but not amazing service. I ventured out looking for amazing service but I guess the search continues . . . Overall my opinion is "meh. I've experienced better," which according to Yelp = 2 stars. So there you go. UPDATE: I've found amazing service at long last. Matrix Integrated in Portland. Been going there for over a year now. What got me there was their chip tuning, but now I go there for everything! After installing my Xforce exhaust, they refused to install the matching downpipe. They said Xforce was difficult to work with. I purchased the Down pipe anyway online because I need the exhaust to match. When I told them this, they still said no to installation. Seems like Double j does not want to provide the same customer service to me as they do everybody else. Beware minorities!!! read more

I've driven my MKIV R32 from Seattle down to Double J for the UM Haldex Flash/ecu tune within the past year and I cannot say enough good things about them. Very friendly, knowledgable, and honest staff. Just this past weekend, I stopped by to have a Euro FIS cluster swapped in and coded, everything went very smoothly, works perfectly and I couldn't be more stoked about it (thanks again Joey!!) I am usually pretty protective/weary over who works on/services my car in general, but when it comes to Joey and the rest of the crew over at Double J, I've got no concerns at all because I know they're going to provide the best service out there and will do it right the first time. They went the extra mile to make sure I got my ECU back in time to finish my project. I ran into a few snags with my install, and Joey walked me through it on the phone. Talk about service! (I live in Fairbanks, AK and there is no VW dealer or Euro shops in my town.) I have purchased random performance bits from them when I am in town near the shop, and they are always spot on with the pricing and inventory. Incompetent, sloppy, and overpriced. On Monday I brought in our newly purchased VW Eurovan for some fluid flushes and a broken A/C. They were going to take a look and call me back. I didn't get a call so I called around 5 pm and spoke with Carrie, the store owner. She explained that the fluids looked fine, but they changed the oil (which I didn't authorize). She also said that they thought the problem with the A/C may be a broken expansion valve which is the same part used in Audis but half the price of VWs. With labor it would be right around $200. I told her to get the part and install it. They were going to call when it was ready...probably Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning comes and goes, Tuesday afternoon the car is still not ready. After a few phone calls back and forth late afternoon Tuesday I finally speak with Joey. He explains that the problem was not the expansion valve but some relays that operate the 2 engine fans and A/C fan. Since all 3 parts are interconnected I'm advised to order them all and have them installed. In hindsight I should have just said thanks but no thanks, but in previous conversations Carrie explains that since they had already spent a lot of time researching the problem and that it was probably the relays I might as well get the job finished and order the parts. She also quoted me an estimate for this work -- right around $400. Joey also explained that the relays operate the fans and if they weren't replaced there was a danger the engine could overheat. After a bit of deliberating on how long it would take (when the parts could be ordered and installed) I was told the car would be ready 2 days later on Thursday. I called again Thursday morning to see if the part was delivered and installed. Yes, it was delivered and installed but the A/C still doesn't work. At this point they provide yet another theory on why the A/C doesn't work and what new parts needs to be ordered but frankly, I stopped listening. We needed our van and they weren't able to diagnose the problem in 4 1/2 days. When I went to pick it up there were fuses all over the floor and the plastic panel below the steering wheel was not replaced. The bill for the the new parts, labor, and oil change came out to almost $700. I'm now forced to research with our credit card company what options we have as consumers and need to work with Double J to find an agreed upon solution. If you're still reading at this point you can understand how frustrating it is to pay almost $700 for basically an oil change and for a repair shop to research a problem they weren't able to fix. Its because of their inability to correctly diagnose the problem, poor communication about estimates for cost of labor and sloppy work that earn Double J Motorwerks their 1 star rating. read more

After being a slave to the dealer for five years, my warranty had expired and I was forced to find an experienced Volkswagen mechanic that wouldn't overcharge me. I tried a few places in the area but finally landed at Double J after a recommendation from a friend; I'm really glad I did. These guys are friendly and passionate about what they do. They love Volkswagens and really understand the car, they want you to as well. My tail light kept going out (this is the sixth time in three years) and Joey (one of the owners) took it apart and showed me exactly what was wrong with it and what I'd be paying for. I also have a weird noise in the front end when I take corners. Instead of telling me that I must repair it now, they were honest and told me it could wait a few months. I really appreciate their honesty. I'm a freak about my car because I bought it new and never really trusted anyone but the dealer to work on it before.
