Absolutely wonderful, kind and honest company. I'd give 6 stars if I could. I found myself in the pouring rain on the side of an unfamiliar road with a totally flat tire. I have zero clue how to change a tire, but especially on a cold rainy dark Portland 4:45pm. I saw A&P was about a block and a half away from where I was parked and called to see if anyone could help. Within 5 minutes, 2 kind and competent men walked through rain and traffic to meet me at my car ready to help. They quickly changed my tire and I was fully ready to pay for their services in kind, but they simply told me they did the act as good samaritans. Maybe don't lie about parts that aren't on a car and then get schooled when I go to the dealership to ask, they let me know that most of the bill was added to make you money and not fix anything on the car. Watch your wallet around these guys they'll do their best to get as much out of it as they can. Ask your tech about the a6 they had in. I brought my 1987 Porsche 928 for service, prior to a 3000 mile road trip. I have been a customer for over 2 years now. Among other things on the work list, was install a temp sensor in the auto-trans pan. Prior, I questioned Alan about this, and was told "no problem" When I picked the car up, I found that, rather than weld the supplied bung in the side of the pan (AS AGREED), they cobbled up an adaptor to thread it into the BOTTOM. . . . . . . and it LEAKS . . . Did I mention that this is prior to a 3000 mile road trip in 2 days ? ? ? ? When I called to attempt to get this attended to . . . . they refused to take my calls . . . . . I am tired of their lack of concern, their failure to complete work orders, as well as their ARROGANCE. There are other Porsche shops in the area . . . I had a fantastic experience with this shop. My 2004 VW had an issue for 3+ years that no one could figure out: when it rained, water slowly pooled in the back floorboard. My regular mechanic tried multiple fixes, to no avail, and then referred me out to a body shop, who also fixed multiple things that did not correct the issue (and told me I was mistaken, they had fixed the problem). I asked my mechanic for a second body shop recommendation and that's how I landed at A&P. Alan and Willy worked diligently and uncovered the issue (a door seal) and when I got the car back and the problem wasn't thoroughly fixed (it needed 3 new door seals in the end!) they apologized, jumped at the chance to fix it, and did not charge me labor the second time at all. They gave me a great loaner car while they worked on my car and even texted after I'd had my car back for a week to make sure their fix was a true fix. I was impressed by their knowledge, proficiency, honesty, professionalism, and humanity. They've gained a loyal customer in me! read more

Alan and Paul have worked on Angela, my 2002 VW Beetle Turbo S, many times, and they've never failed to impress with their friendly, laid back professionalism, good prices, and quality work. There were several occasions when I was charged less than I was quoted, and I never had a single issue with the services they performed. I bought Angela in 2014 and this has been my main shop since, right up until today. My bug was stolen and recovered, but not before it was thoroughly parted out. I had it towed to A & P Specialties to find out how bad the damage was, and it was bad. $4500+ to rebuild a $3000 car. The bug was a total loss, but these guys didn't charge me a cent, even though they went over it with a fine-toothed comb and let me know what I'd be looking at to rebuild it, should I decide to go that route. When I decided to scrap it instead, they gave me a whole week to find a good scrapper and make towing arrangements while the poor beast sat, a forlorn husk, on their lot. I probably won't be buying euro when I get another car, and I'm sad to say goodbye, but if I do ever get another european car, I will definitely be back. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you have a VW, Audi, Porsche, or just about any other specialty euro vehicle, A & P Specialties is where you want to go. This is the best automotive shop I have ever been to, and here's why: - As a woman, I was listened to, respected, and treated fairly. In my experience, this is shockingly difficult to find, and all communication from A & P Specialties was extremely professional and respectful. I worked with Paul, which was an absolute pleasure. - During my initial phone call for a quote for replacing the CV boots (after being told by the Audi dealership that they were cracked), Paul explained to me that cracking is a normal part of wear and tear, and it does not necessarily mean they need to be replaced. He offered to do a complimentary inspection to see if they were damaged before agreeing to replace them. The other shop I got a quote from never mentioned this, but rather encouraged me to have the axles replaced as well before ever looking at my car. With A & P Specialties, I never felt like I was being pressured to pay for unnecessary work to be done. - The mechanic did an inspection of my car, emailed me the results with photos and a detailed estimate, allowed me to look over it on my own, and then had a detailed conversation with me about what work I wanted to move forward with. We were visiting Portland from CA for the week and noticed one our VW Tiguan taillights went out. I knew it being a VW that it isn't a simple swap of a bulb but needed an expert with the right tools. We called A & P and talked to Alan who could not have been nicer and more accommodating and took us right away. Once he got in to it he noticed a good amount of corrosion on the connectors and cleaned 'em up and got it working in 20min. so we could then travel back home safely and then deal with getting the proper parts ordered and repair back home. Brought my car in once again to have some issues with my cooling system fixed. I was told it would be a certain amount but when they got deeper in they realized the damage was much worse than they had originally quoted me for. Being a college student and only working part time I didn't have the extra money and couldn't come up with it. They were honest about what was going on and explained it well. They went ahead and fixed what I originally payed for, and then went even further and fixed even more cooling system issues. I'm in California right now and did the whole drive with no coolant leaking. So thankful for the guys at A & P and I've already been sending people their way. I have a Porsche 911 wide body, and these guys have been the mechanic on this car thru 2 car owners, for a total of 20 years on the same car!! Yes, I found him by referral from the guy I bought the car from. Alan is patient and even calmly assisted me when the battery died after the stereo store messed up some stuff. He did not even charge for it. I LOVE ALAN SOOOOOOO much, I wish he did Dodge and Ford, as I would have him do my Mustang and the Ram truck. I wont go anywhere else, he even suggests aftermarket stuff to save me money, and tells me what is vital, neat, or not important on upgrades, and basic service!!!! I never want to take my Audi here again! They have done nothing but robbed me. First time I took it in for the most expensive tuneup in my life, they barely did anything, and then afterwards 2 of my sensors failed, so for a few weeks all they did was beep at me constantly. When the oil sensor came on we tied to open the hood to add oil and the hood release was detached (on a friday night mind u, so I was stuck without a car for the weekend). It took them 2 hours to get the hood to open, and then they slapped my bumper on crooked, (still is not fitting right after they tried to fix it). Then took it back to get my cv boot & axel replaced, and last night (1 week later, Friday night again) a bolt came off the axel and was about to fall off & my ABS sensor was dangling! Last week I told Allen of all the things that needed fixed that they forgot on the tuneup. He tried to get the mechanic to fix it all, and only charged half the price. That was nice of him but they still did me wrong after this axel incident. I'd say if you want to go there, beware of the small skinny guy with dreads...I don't think he's cut out for the job. read more

They've maintained my 2005 VW Golf TDI since the warranty ran out and I got sick of the dealership's service. Should have gone to Alan from the get-go. Anyway, they have fixed it when the electrical stuff has gotten weird and maintained it trouble-free now for 3 years. One Friday night my battery died. I had the car towed to Alan's place and walked there the next morning of the off chance he'd be open and able to change it. Well, he was there hanging out with his buddies. Brought my car in and they were nice enough to drive me to the nearest MAX line so I could ride home while I wait for the repairs.
