A convenient place to eat if you're staying at the Doubletree or one of the other close-by hotels. I was staying at the Holiday Inn, and the desk clerk mentioned that if I showed my room key, I'd get a 10% discount. Had she not mentioned the restaurant, I probably wouldn't have tried it or even found it! I think I would have been better off had I not found it. I ordered a BLT. There was a good amount of B to go along with the L&T on that sandwich. But it was average tasting at best. Very greasy and salty. It was served with salty fries. It didn't take me long to finish my beer. The fries were shoestring, and there were quite a bit of em. If you're on a shoestring budget, you could probably get away with sharing the sandwich with someone. I couldn't finish mine. I'm not really sure if it was because it was a lot of food, or if it was the salt saturation. Either way, I didn't ask for a box. They have steak and burgers, too. I saw some of those making their way to tables, and the folks seemed to be enjoying them. So you could probably give it a try. Quick Tip: I saw a sign stating that if you pay with cash, they'll give you a 10% discount. I tried using cash AND show my room key to get a combined 20% off. That didn't fly with my server. I only got the 10% off. Who knows if it was the cash or room. I was hoping that the server would ask which room I was in. Just kidding, NMT. It's a good thing I had a couple of beers in my room. I'm still dry from that darn salt!

Ordered the 12oz ribeye and sides. Steak wasn't bad just not sure if it was worth 34$. Also called in a pickup order. Upon arrival , the girl working wasn't very friendly and seemed annoyed to check me out. Wasn't till I left that I realized they also charged me a 20% tip to pickup my food. To my understanding based off their menu, was it was for room service deliveries for the attached hotel. Just wasn't super impressed with the whole experience.

This is a very fantastic place that's hidden away if you happen to be lucky enough to stay at the DoubleTree hotel in Mount Vernon Illinois. The food is fantastic and the service is incredible. They have local St Louis Schlafly beers to compliment your meal. I highly recommend this place if you happen to be in the area even if you're just passing by. Lots of wonderful flavors and everything is done to perfection.

Ribeye cooked perfect but the "fresh broccoli" was far from fresh and mushy.

Attached to the Double Tree hotel, and the best traits of this restaurant is the staff. The staff is great and probably the main reason I keep returning. The drinks are good and well priced. The food is typical for a hotel bar in the Midwest, which could be improved. I'll be back but I might stick with a burger and make sure to order the salad with the dressing on the side.

Other staff members checked on us several times so we were never lacting in anything. The stake I ordered (medium rare) which I always order came out very rare. If it was a little more done I would not have said anything. But someone from the kitchen stopped by the table and asked if I was ahppy with the tempature. I was nice about it and said, well not really, this seems very rare to me, not medium rare. WIthout complain he quickly took the stake on a side dish leaving the rest of myt meal to enjoy. Teo minutes laters a perfectly medium rare stake came out with a bit of char on the outside, hot and pink while still juicy inside. And it was a very good, very thick streak. Honestly I had wished I'd ordered a large cut. ANd isn't a great steak your looking for when going to a steakhouse?

My first time trying okra and I know my friend loves Cracker Barrel's fried okra. So it's probably me. Just not to my taste. She was quick to get our order and very helpful with our questions. While we were eating, I also saw her not only sweeping up after messy patrons, and not only wiping down the tables, but also conscientiously wiping the salt and pepper shakers, etc... It was refreshing to see such a hard worker during a lull in the business day. My husband and I travel many times a month and so we eat out frequently. Many times, we've seen workers going in the back and we end up waiting a long time for service. Or they're more engaged on their phones or chatting with one another so they don't notice the customers. I get it, it's a long day for them. We wanted to give Jordan her props as well as the cooks that day. Like I said, the food was excellent and the people manning the gift shop were very nice. We'll definitely be back!

One of the oddest cheeseburgers I can recall ever ordering. While I admire the chef's /…read morerestaurant's enthusiasm to do something exotic, here, it didn't work. It's about execution. The meat was quite odd, both in consistency and taste. If I had to guess, they took reject pieces from their steaks and ground them up, perhaps several days ago? You couldn't cut through it with a fork. It had a strange taste to it. It wasn't at a warm or hot temperature and tasted stale. The onions that they added were delicious, but way too minuscule in size and bulk to have any taste impact. The bun was ordinary, despite their raving and reliance on its quality, and it being a Kaiser roll. The burger lacked customary garnish. Why I order cheeseburgers at high end establishments? In part? I like the quality thick beefsteak tomato slice and crisp, fresh lettuce. Here? No garnish at all, just a patty with a little cheese and onion. If the patty was fresh black angus and juicy, without the weird consistency and taste present here, and had they lavished it with mountains of similar onion and more cheese? --The risky and odd approach to making a cheeseburger might have proven successful. For this cheese to suffice, it, too, would have needed to be more pungent in taste, and abundant in presence. You could barely taste it. The mashed potatoes were quite good but way too salty. I literally crunched down on some salt crystals. That's when you know there's inordinate salt. Weird service and rock hard chairs made this bizarre stop on the way to St. Louis/ Denver more painful to savor. What irritates me was that I had to order a Caesar salad just to obtain roughage. And when you take the $30 for the salad and burger combined into account? That's a lot for such an odd experience. In summary, anyone who watches and implements the Gordon Ramsay Fword cheeseburger recipe on YouTube will end up with a vastly superior cheeseburger. In this town, while I am visiting only, from what I've read and seen in reviews, I'd recommend instead the frosty mug for basic food along these lines. A $24 burger better be pretty darned special to attract this sort of tab. This was just weird, not great. Sorry, no photos.

In: 6pm Sharp. Out: 8:52 pm…read more I'm going to finish this review tomorrow, so I can sleep on what I am about to write about this place & the amount of white shame this place exemplifies. So here we are 14 hours later so I could properly assess this review to make sure that I wasn't speaking out of emotion. This review is probably going to trigger some people, but it's honest. I'll get the basics out of the way. The place was super busy and had a 45 minute wait. This is important & I'll get to that in a second. Decorum: Typical chilis, TVs everywhere. Somewhat clean, except when I had to ask for a bar rag to wipe down the spot that I sat at that the other couple had left. I ordered the SmokeHouse 3 item plate. Ribs, jalapeno sausage & Nashville hot chicken tenders. Came w/ fries & mac n cheese. I don't have high expectations of BBQ outside of my own, for obvious reasons so it was typical Chili's food. Except the Nashville hot tenders, weren't Nashville hot at all, no spice or heat whatsoever. You may want to stop reading now, because this is where it's gonna get real. Like I said there was a 45 minute wait for food, cuz the kitchen was so backed up. I generally don't care, I thought this place being busy was actually a good thing. This poor elderly couple were crammed into the tiny waiting booth waiting on their table, which there were several that were open. The hostess took them back and sat them since they have been sitting beyond the 45 min. but they still had to wait for their food. So I sit at the bar, that another couple had just vacated. Now I understand, it's busy in there so I wasn't really expecting that section to be cleaned right off the bat, except for the fact that the bartender passed by me a good 5 or 6 times until I had to ask her for a rag to wipe my spot, which she replied "oh I thought you had been taking care of already, I see a water cup there." WRONG YOU'RE THE ONLY BARTENDER. YOU KNOW DAMN WELL I just sat down because you saw me. They gave me the whole 45 minute spiel. I'm not in a big hurry, so I don't care, I just wanna couple cocktails while I wait to order. So after about 15 minutes have passed, I get my first cocktail, and she asks me if I want a menu. Duh. As I'm sitting there waiting for her to ask me for my order, this really nice sweet black lady sits right next to me. At this point I've been there probably about a half an hour. The bartender goes rushing up to her takes her drink order & her food order. Her drink is made immediately, her food comes out w/in 10 minutes. What happened to the 45 minute wait? All the while, I am still waiting to order my food. She's in & out in under 30 minutes. A couple other white people sit in the bar, essentially getting the same treatment I'm getting. Finally, she's nice enough to take my food order but I have to ask her for another cocktail, in which she should have offered. About 15 minutes pass, and another black gentleman sits across at the bar. ONCE AGAIN, the bartender is racing over, & this guy has a beer before his butt cheeks even hit the seat, all the while the other patrons that were there before are still waiting to be served. Within 5 minutes, no more than 10, his hot wings come out, and the bartender is nice enough to offer him another beer. I'm still waiting on my food. 10 min later, his Burger plate comes out, & offered yet another beer. At this point I've been sitting for probably an 1¼ hours, and have had only 3 cocktails. He finishes his food, he pays & leaves. I continue to sit. After about 40 more minutes my food finally comes out. Barback comes over and starts talking about "African-American gentleman this, African American gentleman that" which is fine. But it's also completely fine to not be politically correct, because he would not be saying that "Anglo-Saxon gentleman". After finishing my meal, I probably waited another 35 minutes to get my check, that I had to ask for as I sat with an empty glass for that entire time. I got a glimpse of the GM, and that explained everything. I travel ALL OVER the country, state by state on a daily basis and I thought all of this DEI rhetoric and racism/reverse racism, and white shame was just that. But apparently people actually buy into it, & for the very first time, I personally experienced it. That's why I had to give it a day before writing this review just to make sure. I feel so bad for the elderly couples and the families that go in there and get treated as second class citizens because of the color of their skin. I can't believe this whole topic has taken a complete 180. I don't like Illinois to begin with, & I definitely will not be coming back to this Chili's & I will be contacting a corporate representative. This was just flat out unacceptable. If you're a single white guy, expect a good 1 1/2 hours, at least, & keep an eye on the people that are able to come in and out and be served in a timely manner, paid attention to, and treated w/ respect.

The restaurant is obviously a local favorite spot as many other patrons were greeted by name by staff or other diners. We seated ourselves in a booth, of which circles the rest of the room with several tables down the middle. Service was quick, sweet tea for me, not often found in Illinois dining, but perfectly done for this southern girl. Hubby was just as happy with his unsweet tea. The homemade vegetable soup was warm, thick with vegetables, even some cabbage, midst the creamy broth. My hand-presses cheeseburger was as delectable as any, and would have been perfect if tomatoes were in season and carried more flavor. But the lettuce was crisp, the onion sharp, and the pickles crunchy. Hubby has a tossed salad and the catfish dinner. The fish was cooked in cornmeal, a real "down home" dish, plenty of it and plenty of flavor. Hush puppies were delicious, but not enough of them. Then, we both ordered dessert even though we knew we couldn't finish them: strawberry cake and a lemon crème pie. Out of this world! The price was reasonable for the excellent food and service, even in these days of austerity. We definitely intend to return to The Grille!
