I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

I created a Yelp account to give this salon a review. Yep, they're THAT good. I'm pretty lazy with writing reviews but here I go, first one! If you're looking to do something different/fun with your hair or just wanting to upgrade the quarantine hairdo, book an appointment with King! You won't regret it and you can thank me later. ;) As stated in previous reviews, it's true, this salon takes COVID safety measures seriously. I felt completely safe for the entire 4+ hours I spent there. King was super professional and friendly throughout the whole process. He really was the perfect person for guiding me through my first bleaching experience and I completely trusted him. I dropped a bomb by forgetting to tell him that I had recently dyed my hair dark (I know, I'm the worst lol) but he remained calm under pressure and DELIVERED! Miraculously, no brassy orange either! He truly makes magic with hair!! He was very serious about the after care and I'm doing my best to maintain what he created based on his instructions. Finally, bring cash. Low-key regretted that I didn't bring more to tip (he def deserved it) but will compensate on the next visit. Can't thank King enough! read more

I've been following stylist Sam around the city for 6 years and am so happy he opened his own shop. I am extremely particular about my hair and it's gotten to the point where I trust him so much that I barely have to describe what I want. He is insanely talented. Haircuts are immaculate (and grow out well too), but the complicated levels of color that Double Q can achieve is truly amazing. I'm sometimes skeptical if they can really pull off these bright colors (especially on naturally dark hair) and every time they do! They use quality products and care about the health of your hair and scalp- I've been aggressively bleaching my hair for years and my hair is FINE. Also it's so easy to get appointments with them which can be frustrating elsewhere in NYC. Feel assured that this salon is COVID safe, I've visited twice since they were able to reopen this year and they take all precautions like temperature checks and sanitizer - they even disinfected the bottom of my shoes. It was my first time visiting Double Q and King did an amazing job with everything. I have long and thick hair which requires a lot of patience to work on, but King definitely nailed it! Here I also want to say thanks to Vincent who also helped to bleach and color my hair for hours. I am really satisfied with the final look and will recommend King to any friend. Also, King has an easygoing personality so don't worry about feeling uncomfortable on your first visit. The other stylists also did great jobs on their clients' hair. okay SO- i went to this place and originally left a pretty negative review, my stylist and i just didn't communicate well and i left with a pretty blah haircut because of it and felt like i'd paid way too much. HOWEVER! a few day after i posted said review the salon reached out to me and asked if i wanted a free kind of touch up or redo of the stuff i didn't like and oh my GOD my hair looks so gorgeous now. i literally could not be happier. my stylist, Mavis, was so sweet and made sure to get my hair as close as humanly possible to what i wanted. she made sure to communicate with me about what i wanted done the entire time and was really fun to talk to!! i'm really glad i went back and the customer service was so good, i really recommend you go here! just be really through in explaining what you want, but that goes for everywhere. read more

I'm so glad my friend recommended this Salon and Matt to do my hair. Before cutting, Matt asked for my thoughts and gave suggestions that would suit me better. Since I had quite long hair, he trimmed it layer by layer very patiently for one hour. The end of the hair also ended up looking natural and casual, which was exactly what I wanted. This is the first time I go to a hair salon, and that was the happiest 3 hours I spent on doing my hair with professional stylists! My hair was patiently bleached (somehow my hair is hard to bleach) and got the exact color I want! Then they discussed the ideas with me before starting to cut my hair, which is also great because then I can get the best result. I scheduled with King and honestly I will not be changing Salons, he did exactly what I wanted and I took his opinion on my cut for my hair. He makes you feel comfortable and easy to talk to. Beautiful salon and amazing hair stylists! I've been going to King for a few times and my hair always turns out breathtaking. He is friendly, patient, and understanding. He takes his time with my hair and puts in his best efforts to give me exactly what I'm looking for. He's great with coloring and skillful in cutting hair. Chris was so lovely, I found him on instagram and loved his work! The salon is very neat-- when I entered my temperature was checked (fever gun thing on the forehead), I was given hand sanitizer, and my hands and body were sprayed with disinfectant, so I felt very safe in terms of coronavirus. I wore a mask as well as everyone else in the store the entire time. Chris was patient and very good at using my suggestions to go farther and make something really awesome! I made an appointment to see Vincent (who I followed from another salon)- and once again, I couldn't be happier with the result!!! He is very honest about color expectations, explains everything, and answers any questions you may have. I also loved how thorough they are with Covid-19. When you walk in they check your temperature, spray you with disinfecting spray, and give you hand sanitizer. I will definitely come back for more! Vibe is typical modern hair salon with bright lighting and comfortable chairs. Receptionist was nice but a bit stiff and assistant who washed my hair was good as well. Romi was friendly but seemed pretty matter of fact at first. I showed Romi a pic of the hair style (long hair with layers and bangs) I wanted, she suggested some adjustments to it to customize for me, and was really fast in cutting my hair. I've gotten my haircut quite a few times in ny, dc, and korea and she is definitely one of the fastest I've experienced. We made small talk while she cut my hair and I noticed she opened up a bit more after that. Haircut turned out nice and overall pretty satisfied. Price was comparable to other nice salons or a tad higher. There's a few other salons on my list to try but glad I tried this place and may visit again if those don't work out next time. Overall would recommend if you can articulate what you are looking for and want to treat yourself to a nice haircut.

However, when I tried to cover up my highlights with my old hairdresser twice, my hair kept fading into a yellow/brown color and I needed to find someone who could help me make the switch for real this time. Thankfully, going to Romi was the best decision I could've made! First of all, her team was so professional and polite, and I felt very welcomed as soon as I got there. I also appreciated how meticulous their service was and felt really taken care of. I immediately warmed up to Romi herself as she was so kind and understanding, and I trusted her as she made the right decisions for my hair! She has great attention to detail and an eye for style, and she made suggestions on using a warmer toned black/brown in order to match my roots. The color that she chose ended up looking amazing and on top of that, she even offered to cut me some curtain bangs for free as she said they would suit me better! I was so thankful for her expertise and truly could not have had a better experience. I highly look forward to coming back to Romi, especially because I know she cares so much and will do her best every time. :)

Back with Ting today again. I asked for shoulder length and lots of layers cuz I have thick hair. He delivered. Plus, this cut will grow out nicely without awkward stages. I got the best hair wash and scalp massage ever. The hair wash lady did an amazing job. Perhaps it helps that I was the only customer at that moment. Even though we're living with covid-19 I didn't think I'd be the only customer inside the salon. I walked in, the customer before me was getting finished up and she left. This salon is abiding by guidelines: 6-ft distance between chairs, plastic drape partitions, sanitized surfaces/seats/combs/clips - I watched Ting hold a handheld device that sprayed sanitizer - it was futuristic looking.
