My wife and I tried this place this past Saturday. We mostly go to another BBQ joint on New Windsor/Cornwall border, but I will not name it because I do not want to be blamed for trying to shill for another restaurant, but we wanted to try another local place. We ordered a half order of the pulled pork nachos and two ciders two start. The pork in the nachos tasted "off" to me almost sour. There was not much cheese, and what was there seemed heated in the microwave and too much sour cream. Cold in middle and on bottom. My wife ordered the turkey BLT with fries and said it was ok, but really not much to mess up there. I was concerned about the pork, but still ordered the smokehouse sample which had pulled pork, brisket and ribs with garlic mashed and baked beans. Garlic mash was ok, but the beans tasted like any brand of canned pork and beans not like a homemade baked bean. The pork again tasted off and no smoke and a large glob of fat that i had to put to the corner, so i tried the Carolina sauce on it. Only vinegar taste. Then like many of the other reviewers, I have read after the fact, it spiraled downhill when I tried the brisket. Tough fatty gray meat like it may have been sitting too long, no smoke ring or smoke taste, way way too much pepper, no fat rendered out. It was the worst piece of meat I ate in my life. I tried a couple of more pieces, but I had to leave it. The ribs were too fatty, and fell off the bone like they might have been boiled and over cooked, no smoke flavor, no pull (BBQers know what I mean) and I tried a second sauce which did not taste much different then the Carolina, too much vinegar. I am being honest and I know I was stupid at the fact that I ate as much as I did because the plate was 35.00 and I should have complained, but I just wanted to get the bill and go because I was so angry and I did not want to start with wait staff that have nothing to do with how the food is prepared. Great Sunday brunch, I love their house hash and selection of Benny's. The Southern Benny with poached eggs, sausage, Biscuit and sausage gravy is awesome. And their bloody Mary's are delicious! We came up from Westbury (LI) for the Apple Trail. About late afternoon we decided we were hungry and happened upon Double S. There was 1.5 hour wait for a table inside or outside, so we opted for delivery to our parked car in about 30 minutes. We Googled for a local park while we waited, drove 1/4 mile north to 3rd Street and turned for the Stanley Dunning Park. How delightful. Clean picnic table and our Double S take-out made a fantastic afternoon. What a beautiful Park! Delish food. Blue Moon Burger, Fries, Smoked Wings, ABC Grilled Cheese and Mac 'n Cheese. So the space is small intimate and cute. We had a large party of 12 which was accommodated in about 20mins. We had the a huge variety from the menu. Garlic mashed A+, Collard Greens A+, Route 66 Burger A +. What made everything even more delicious was the amazing customer service from the entire wait staff. Good food. Terrible service. My friends and I went on a not very busy night. Drinks took forever to arrive and the waitress had to double check what we had ordered multiple times. We waited an hour watching people who had come in after us get their food before us. As we finally received our food we ordered a burger to go and got that within five minutes (where was that speedy service when it came to our food we had initially ordered). The worst part of our visit however was that when our check came, the tip had already been added on to the total even though we were only a party of 5. It had not been made clear that they were going to do this. All of our food was great. However, that's even more reason for them not to make so many mistakes. 2 groups of people that came later then we did, were seated before us. The hostess then said she forgot, so ok whatever. After our 40 minute wait we were seated. We got to order 2 sides, and before ordering I asked the waitress if we order the baked potato and corn on the cob as sides is it enough for 4 people. She said yes, you each get one. So I ordered the potato and corn. Well, the platter comes and there is one ear of corn split.....yes so 2 pieces total for 4 people. They served 2 not so big baked potatoes for 4 people. I called the waitress over and she explains today is her first day as the reason we were misinformed. We eat, expecting that the owner who is standing not far from the entire time will be told that we are upset. The meal is done and I'm signing the credit card slip, when she finally came over. I just started to tell her about the single ear of corn, when she cuts me off and says "well, we don't serve ears of corn. We serve niblets." And walked away. Regardless. The food isn't that good. Isn't the best quality. The menu that says the small family platter (for $60 By the way) feeds 4 specifically had sides for 2 people. Very unsatisfying experience. How can a BBQ place that has signs that say it's not BBQ without smoke, not have any smell of smoke? The smoker and wood out on the side of the building surrounded by weeds look like they're just for show. Brisket was grey and tough, without any bark. Pulled pork looked like chopped dog food and probably cheap Sysco precooked product. Burnt, dry ribs. Inedible and dry Mac and cheese that was probably in the steam table all day with grainy sauce barely coating the overcooked macaroni. Brussel sprouts were sour and slimy, but that may be how they make them. Fried pickles we're probably the best thing because they came out of the freezer. Smoked Meatloaf had no smoke flavor, and was tough! Looked like another premade frozen product. On-Cor Meatloaf would have been much better. Please do yourself a favor, avoid this overpriced, underwhelming place if you want a good meal and value. read more

When Double S Smokehouse first opened it was great. We used to go mainly for their wings. In the past year, the food and service has declined substantially. Yesterday we decided to give it another try since it had been awhile. As soon as we were seated we noticed flies, but as soon as our food came we were overtaken by them. There were so many flies constantly landing on our food, table, legs.... Uggh! Drove us so crazy that we couldn't even eat. There were literally hundreds everywhere. It was so gross! I couldn't stand it so we Asked for our check and I told the server about the problem, which sh knew already, since they had cups of essential oil and lemons at every table apparently to "deter flies" (her words). She said, sorry about that, but proceeded to deliver our full price check. Meanwhile it was early evening and there was a table full of employees laughing and talking and I was wondering why they weren't trying to do anything about the damn flies. By contrast, felt rushed near completion of meal, like they were eager to move my party of 5 out to make room for another group. Food was pretty good. Grilled chicken very tasty, generous portions. Portabella sandwich roll was burnt, baked potato was cold. Ribs tasty and nicely prepared but Mac n Cheese tasteless. Pulled chicken was good, nice tangy taste. Trying to find a place to eat at 8 pm is hard when most spots are closing. Passed this restaurant and decided to go inside and try it out. Unfortunately made a mistake, just thought how bad can a smoke house be. Overall very disappointed with the food. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. Let me just go through everything I got. Ordered the Cesar salad and it was horrible , how can you mess that up is beyond me. Soggy wet salad, stale croutons and a very generous amount of salad dressed from the bottle. Thought i was having soup with lettuce in it. Second was nachos with chicken. Pretty simple to make. But it was hard to find chicken. They put some jalapeños in and about a 1/4 a container of sour cream was blooped on top. Chips were good, when ur hungry I guess your desperate. Next was a meal , ordered whole rack of ribs, potato salad, coleslaw and corn. The ribs were OKAY. Dried rub but nothing crazy. Tasted like beef jerky to me. Next was the side... honestly I never had such bad sides ever. I'm not a picky eater, I love everything. The potato salad tasted like sour blueberries. Like it's been sitting on top of a blueberry cake and it was horrible I really couldn't even swallow it. Next coleslaw was watery and tasted like it was drenched in vinegar. Very good service and food!! We were skeptical about the the lowly rated reviews, but then I noticed they all were from a few to several months ago. Must be from some old staff or management because, for us, everything was great!!! The servers, runners, and bussers all took care of each other's tables. Very friendly! The sampling of sauces was fantastic and so were the loaded fries!!!! I had the sampler platter. Everything was delicious, expect the pulled chicken was very salty. Perhaps too much flavor rub was sprinkled on. Pretty ok in the gluten-free department. The sauces and a cider were labeled as gf. Didn't see any markings on the menu though. Had to ask. Can't wait to come back when we have more time to sit and sample! read more

We are locals who frequently eat out in Warwick and beyond and love most of the places we eat at. We wanted to like this place and waited until now to try it due the the early negative reviews after opening, but was woefully disappointed. Went to dinner with another couple who've been there before and agreed the place was okay. So, I had hopes of enjoying a decent meal with friends. Walked in with the other wife while the guys parked, the hostess was busy at the computer screen facing sideways to us. Now, I know she knew we were there as we waited patiently for SEVERAL minutes for her to finish and acknowledge us. When she finally finished tapping the screen she just turned her back to us, never said a word, and walked into the kitchen. I was shocked! She could've, should've, said a simple "I'll be right with you" but, she just ignored us until she finally exited the kitchen then said something obscure as she mumbled something like, ".....???? You guys"? So I said 4 for dinner, she never smiled or said anything, just marked the seating chart on her stand, picked up menus and walked towards the dining room, so we followed. I thought that was very odd. The place was extremely noisy as she seated us next to 2 large families, one with several kids that were not being attended to and were very loud with their chairs moved all around impeding on our space. Our very friendly waitress said "excuse us" and asked the kids politely to adjust their chairs to make room (their parents never made an effort to say anything to the kids who were plenty old enough (about 10 yrs old) to know how to behave in a restaurant. Our waitress was the best experience the whole night as she was very friendly and accommodating. We left her a nice tip. The meal, however, left a lot to be desired. We shared the Empanadas and Nachos. Empanadas were eh, the Nachos were terrible. Almost no cheese, a couple of sliced jalapeños, and no other toppings besides a blob of sour cream in the middle. Literally, there was nothing but a large plate of hot chips with a sparse sprinkle of cheese. The women had the smoked Queen Prime rib steak and my hubby had a bbq brisket sandwich. The steak was fine, nothing special and cooked fine, no noticeable Smokey flavor, but I was okay with that. My sides of corn bread, Smokey cheese cauliflower and mac'n cheese also left a lot to be desired. Corn bread was a bit dry, I've made better at home, the cauliflower was eh, and the mac'n cheese was pretty tasteless and nothing special. The hubby thought the sauce on his sandwich was too sweet so he added a spicier sauce from the table selection and said that it was also very sweet. The other couple seemed okay with their meals, however, we all agreed our sangria was horrible. Just watered down wine with a couple of blueberries in it. It really was tasteless and watery with no wine flavor at all! As we left, another manager at the dining room service desk also never acknowledged us as I looked at her to say something like good night, she just looked down and never said a word, which I also thought was rude. Usually, managing staff thanks you for coming as you walk out of a restaurant. Atmosphere was pleasant, menu was appetizing but that is where the positives end. Service was excruciatingly slow. Food was hit or miss, mostly miss. My salad was pretty good. The fries were good. But for bbq place meat was not well flavored. Table bbq sauces were not good. The brussle sprouts were overcooked and all the flavor bits of bacon were on the bottom. We went on Wednesday at 1 pm. Everything and everyone was stellar. The food was fresh and flavorful, the wait staff appropriately attentive. We had brisket and ribs.
