Passing through Moody and craving chicken fried steak, a couple of friends told me to check out Double Sky Diner. Since I was headed toward McGregor, I decided to stop and wouldn't you know it, they were running a special on chicken fried steak. It got me "hooked on phonics" right away. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with big smiles and a warm welcome. Super friendly staff all around. I didn't waste any time...ordered my chicken fried steak as soon as my waitress, Paisley, came by (I wasn't playin' lol). Service was quick, food came out hot, and it did not disappoint. Paisley also recommended the broccoli and rice casserole, which ended up being the perfect side. Overall, the food hit the spot...I was starvin' like Marvin, lol . Stopped in as we were staying nearby for a weekend get away. There were not a lot of choices nearby and this was super convenient. It was what I would call a typical small city diner. The service was good and the food had a nice southern flare. I had the bacon cheeseburger and added avocado. All the ingredients were super fresh and it really hit the spot. As my side I paid extra to have loaded fries. In my opinion the burger was the highlight of the meal. My wife had the loaded baked potato. Their ranch dressing was very tasty with the potato. Not a destination restaurant but in my opinion it was the one and only restaurant within a 10 minute drive. read more

What a cute little diner in this historical building. The food is ok - it's a 3 star on food and I'd skip the burgers but the chili was good. I wish they made fresh fries and the burger meat seemed like it was boiled- a nice grill searing you could help in presentation and flavor. The service here was excellent. We had a young teenage waitress the out performed all servers in my recent memory. For maintaining the historical value and above average service rating bumps to 4/5. read more

We stopped at this restaurant off the main street in Moody on a Monday afternoon. The hostess/waitress, Mari, was very helpful with items off the menu. She was very sweet and friendly as well. My wife and I when traveling on vacation look for small town cafe/diners because there is a good chance of finding tasty food and good service and a hometown feeling. The Double Sky did not disappoint. We had a wonderful waitress although we were strangers, she treated us like family. Wife had the brisket baked potato and she could not have been more happier with it. There was a lot "mmm's this so good" from her side of the table. I had the best BLT that I had eaten in along time. It was loaded with bacon goodness. I highly recommend that if you are seeing this post that the Double Sky is worth going out of the way and stopping by for a bite! read more

A quintessential diner in small-town Texas. We came for dinner on a Friday night as we were staying at a location nearby. Service was very fast and friendly. Hidden Jewel! The prices are better than other restaurants in the surrounding cities. Everything I've eaten there has been consistently tasty, best catfish anywhere. Aside from their great menu, they have crazy good daily/weekly specials and their homecooked specialty sides are outside the culinary norm. Service has always been quick with pleasant servers. The dining area and restrooms are always clean and the dining atmosphere is yester-year quaint. The owner is welcoming and genuinely appreciative for our patronage. So, the better half and I were on a road trip and opted to do some Yelp Diving and find someplace out of the norm. Double Sky was our winner! Great little place that is worth a little detour, particularly if you are a fan of chicken fried steak or fried catfish. I had the former, and this was a CFS worth driving to. Hand battered, with a good crunch, a bit of chewiness (to remind you what's in there) and just the right amount of gravy. Waaaay better than so many "best" CFS's out there. Sides were a mixed bag -- fries were sufficient but no more than that (exactly what our server told me), green beans were very subpar (no flavor, limp -- takes some work to make 'em this boring), broccoli & rice casserole was tasty. Blackened salmon salad was also good, with a more than generous portion of fish. Service was outstanding and friendly, and prices were very reasonable. I'm pretty sure we'll make another detour to Double Sky next time we're in the area -- check it out. read more

We stopped in for lunch while staying close by. The hours on google maps was wrong and said they were closed but thankfully they were wrong. We had a great lunch! The chicken and dumplings special was very good with shredded chicken! My husband had the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and okra. All three kid meals were great! Would highly recommend! I tried the buffalo chicken sandwich.......it was very delicious. The service was spotty but I feel this is due to the restaurant being less than a week old. I feel service will improve over time as the staff seasons. All of the food I saw come out of the kitchen looked delicious and I can't wait to try it! read more

We were pleasantly surprised with this diner. The service was excellent, friendly, and on-point. Wife had a bacon cheeseburger that must have had a half pound patty and they even throw the buns on the grill. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich that overlapped the bun all the way around. We also ordered the fried pickles and they were the best we have ever had. Small town restaurant that exceeded expectations, we will be back!
