Lone Star Tavern and Steakhouse & Catering is located on Belmead Dr, right off Hwy 31 W. We've been to Lone Star Tavern and Steakhouse & Catering once before while passing through Waco and made it a point to stop in again on another trip through Waco. Ordering is really simple, from a large paper menu just circle the item's you'd like, that's it, that simple. And there's a reason their Waco's oldest steakhouse, the food is really good. This trip, our group ordered a couple Lonestar steaks, which is a 7 ounce Akaushi sirloin, with ranch style beans and a baked potato, chicken fried steak and chicken tender meal with fries. The steak was soo juicky and full of soo much flavor. And both the chicken fried steak and chicken tenders were cooked perfectly as well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. They have some cool wall hangings that are cool to look at. Come on in if you haven't yet, I'll be back the next time I'm passing through Waco again. read more

Ordered a steak & shrimp with okra. Salad and tea were amazing. Ranch is pretty good. Steak was overcooked & shrimp was so overseasoned I had to scrape off the seasoning to be able to bear it. Great steakhouse. Just an all around great place. We looked through the various guides and found that this steakhouse looked like somewhere we would enjoy. We were not disappointed. Upon arriving we were immediately seated and the waitress arrived with water and tossed salads and a selection of dressings. She the asked for our drink order and pointed out a T-Bone special that evening. She also provided us with a paper menu and pen and explained to circle what we wished to order. A novel idea but okay. After seeing we were done with our menu / order sheet she came over reviewed our order and departed. A short time later our order arrived along rolls, butter and cheese for our baked potatoes. The steak was deliciously seasoned and big baked potatoes. The only downside was the cut of the steak was not the best. Maybe it was me as I haven't order T-Bone cut in years. Nice, country restaurant. Salads are brought to the table with your drinks! The sweet tea here is perfect! We ordered an appetizer of onion rings. They were a little greasy. My wife ordered the grilled salmon on rice pilaf with a side of grilled green beans. She said her meal was good (would've have like a slice of lemon on her fish but they were out). I ordered the 16oz sirloin cooked medium. I think it came more in the medium well to well range. It was a tasty and tender steak. My baked potato was a little over cooked. The service was very good. Our total check was $53. *This is a good local steakhouse, not where to come if you are visiting Texas and are looking for that great steak experience! read more

Fortunately, the Waco area still has a place like this -- Lone Star Tavern and Steakhouse. The steaks may not be the thickest or prettiest around -- but they're cooked to order and well seasoned. Excellent Comfort Food Not much to look at and I can't say the Lone Star has great steaks, but: The place is welcoming and the menu is compact and well organized. The onion rings are hand battered and are perfect--thin sliced, crisp, and nice and greasy. I had chicken fried steak which was the best chicken fried steak I have ever had in my life. It's hand battered, super thick and crispy. The mashed potatoes have bits of cheese mixed in with thick tasty white gravy. This place is worth the drive. read more

We love Lone Star. We get takeout about twice a month. The ribeye for two is our favorite. They have huge hamburgers that our son loves!

This is a nice restaurant, and our family each enjoyed their choices. We had fun filling out our own "ticket" order, picking what each person wanted. The Ribeye was thin but quite tasty, and their chicken fried steak is a huge hit. Garlic mashed potatoes were great, kid's meals are great. Rolls are "to die for" -- simply wonderful. Only recommendation I have is on the service -- you can be seated quickly but then it's hard to get a server to return. Know this ahead of time, and just take charge. Once your orders are filled out, if a server doesn't come by, stand up and take them to the back kitchen counter to turn them in so you can have your order started on. Then if you need service, wave the server over or get up and ask for what you need. It is most likely a training issue for the owners on the servers to have them come to your table and take care of customers' needs (instead of cleaning off a table or sweeping the floor when customers need to be served first). read more

Visited from NB and went to eat there last Friday night and the service and food was absolutely horrible. Wife ordered the Ribeye medium rare and came out raw. So politely asked waitress if we could have it cooked more and her sarcastic reply, "well what did you order?" We told her and she said, "that is medium rare." We disagreed and asked if it could be cooked a little more. With an attitude she took it back and literally 2 minutes later she brings it back smothered in aujous and very black. They just put it in the microwave. A quarter of the steak was solid gristle. The AC didn't work either. She said it was broke and it was very warm in there. This is by far one of the best steakhouses I've ever been too. I used to go often when I lived in Corpus Christi. I've been away from Texas for years and decided to give it a try while in Corpus this past weekend. It's just as good as I remember. Sum up my review in just a few words, Ordered a8ozRenegade Steak that was tough, Waitress ask if I wanted to change the steak, said yes for a New York Steak, it was also tough. took forever to get a cup of coffee. I was not please at all with this place of business. We had to wait for about 25 mins to be seated and there was very few people in the restaurant when we were called to be seated. Back in the day... When I was little and we came to Waco to visit my grandparents and my great aunt... This was the best place in town to get a perfectly cooked steak and all the fixins. But, then you have to remember that sad word, reality... and realize that the day is 2010... And it is so DAMN smoky in the place that if you step more than one foot in the door, they could be feeding you cow patty steaks and you wouldn't have a clue... It stated with a shredded salad. Only lettuce and a squeeze bottle of dressing. No tomato, no cucumber, just shredded lettuce. Ordered the special of the day. Rib Eye. Very tender, but had it not been for the seasoning there would have been no flavor at all. Baked potato, not one pad if real butter in the place. You could have a squeeze bottle of butter flavored grease. ( there's a theme of squeeze bottles here. ) Beer was cold but no choice of size , only the big margarita glass which froze a good 1/4" of the beer. Not good for the beer . These folks recently catered my daughters wedding. I've been to corporate events, government functions, large family affairs, etc. and Lone Star rose above all. They provided the planned service on time and without fuss or missteps. Maybe this was an "off" night but we did not have a good experience - and are keeping in mind that everyone is experiencing a shortage of staff. However, the service and food were not good. Took us a while to get our drinks (two waters and a beer). After taking our order sheets, it took a good while to receive our food. My daughter and I received our steaks first while my husband waited another10 minutes to get his. All of our food was cold and the steaks were over cooked. We ordered "medium" but there was no pink to be found. Baked potatoes were cold and dry. My husband's chicken fried steak and French fries were cold, as well. The waitress was obviously tired, as she wasn't friendly at all. Plus - we never saw her again once she delivered our food. Towards the end of the meal, another waitress asked if we wanted rolls, which were also delivered cold. Not an enjoyable meal. We then stood at the checkout counter for at least 5 minutes until someone finally came in from outside to take our payment. We won't be going back anytime soon. read more
