Wowwww!!!! I'm originally from Southeast Texas, born and breed with Cajun blood running through my veins. Ever since leaving and moving to Austin area, I've longed for my gumbo, crawfish and even down home red beans and rice. Well, until now!! We just randomly decided on seafood while in Waco, and lemme tell yall. This place will not disappoint!! I had a bowl of probably the top 10 best I've ever had!! (Sorry mom), and also the red beans and ohhhh my lawd!!!! The atmosphere when you walked in let you know this was gonna be a good meal. The decor, and even almost entire wall with prices and the daily specials written on it. The waitress tried to tell us about it, and I'm pretty sure the wife was paying attention, but I already had my stomach setting up to receive gumbo. Multiple waitstaff stopped by to check on us throughout the meal, and all were very friendly! Serving sizes to make you loosen a belt notch to be able to breathe!! Wife had the fish and chips and couldn't eat the fries! That all said, I also found out that gumbo and beans and rice were made from scratch DAILY, and not that prepared stuff you get at some places!! Went here for lunch. Was seated quickly and the food seemed like it came out quickly too. The crawfish was good and especially if you dipped it in the butter that came with it. The red fish was okay. Back in Waco this past weekend with the boys. Went to Fish City Grill for lunch. The weather was beautiful so we decided to sit outside for lunch. As you can see very nice outdoor seating, with nice view. Was greeted by Kailah, she was very attentive and friendly. My wife and I split the Sea Bass, was large entree to share. Served with potatoes and green beans that were seasoned and cooked nicely. Kyle had the lobster and shrimp cheese grits, surprisingly very tasty. Overall we enjoyed our meal. Nothing special and nothing bad. Service was attentive and helpful. Scallops were cooked perfect, shrimp was a little salty and overdone. Crab cake was tasty. He stayed busy behind the bar and kept up conversations with several diners while providing excellent service When he found out this was our first visit he provided us home made potato chip with smoked trout. It was the perfect start. I ordered the half order of catfish. The fish was huge. It was perfectly fried with a nice crunch My hubby ordered the combo plate with cod and shrimp. Haven't been to this location before. We really like Fish City and this location did not disappoint. Clean, quality service and quality food. For the first time ever, I tried a non-fish dish and went with their roast beef. It was excellent. Just like Grandma used to make. Amazing thin onion rings on top of a large portion of fork tender roast with mashed potatoes and a few carrots. Amazing flavor and portion. My wife had the seared ahi tuna tacos. They were cooked perfectly with a nice citrus flavor and came why Cuban beans and rice (think dirty rice). Service by Ty was excellent. I highly recommend this location. Wow what a great discovery. Plenty of choices on the menu and I wasn't sure if I should get the gumbo or the New England clam chowder and a waitress offered me a sample of both being in Texas. I normally would go for the gumbo, but the New England clam chowder tasted really great. The New England clam chowder is a standout dish, and that's coming from someone with thirty-five years' experience eating eastern MA seafood. We have been here twice before & it was good! Today we had a Christmas gift card and chose to use it for this restaurant. From the server to the food it was not good. The outside patio is nice to look at the water. But I had crab and potato and corn on my mind & my hubby had scallops. His was good. I got my crab but had to keep asking for the potatoes. The server finally brought them & it was 2 tiny red potatoes drenched in butter. Then she proceeded to tell me they had no corn. I was very disappointed that I was not told until after I got my crab with zero side dishes for about 15 minutes. Then I got some zucchini and carrots again drenched butter. I still got zero sides because I couldn't eat them. The crab was just ok. The server was friendly but did not do what she should've done as a server. The manager apologized. This was our first time coming to this restaurant. It is conveniently located in a shopping center among some of our favorite stores--we were hungry and decided to try it out. It was fairly busy on a Friday around 7 PM, but we only had to wait about 5 minutes before a table was made available. It has a very casual-feel--i loved reading about the specials and menu items on the blackboards on the walls. Our server was very nice and greeted us promptly and for the most part was quick about everything. I'm not going to lie, my wife and I were a little envious seeing a nearby table get offered samples of a number of menu items. I read a couple reviews stating similar things. Seems like it was on the server to initiate that, but it's okay. I ordered the lobster and shrimp grilled cheese sandwich with French fries and a sweet tea. The sandwich was delicious--the cheese was perfectly melted and the bread was just the right amount of toasted, not too hard at all. I would love to brag about the lobster and shrimp inside of the sandwich, however the sriracha overpowered the flavors of both. This comment is only my personal opinion as I'm sure there are some sriracha lovers out there, but it really took away from the flavor of the lobster and shrimp for me which I really love. I would have ordered the sandwich without it and recommend that to anyone who isn't much of a fan of sriracha. My wife ordered the fish and chips and it had to had been one of the flakiest and delicious pieces of fish I've had in a while, highly recommend that plate!! Food was the correct temperature. Buffalo chicken tacos were tasteful. They do have a little heat which I liked. Seafood tacos were good and had plenty of toppings. I was alone, so I sat at the bar, and Zac the Bartender was extremely friendly, gracious, and knowledgeable about the local Waco food and beer scene. He also made a wonderful cocktail called the "Whale Hello There" that includes Gray Whale Gin, cucumber syrup, and Fever Tree lime & kuzu mixer. It was fantastic! There is also a tap handle from Waco's own Southern Roots brewery that you can't get anywhere else (including the brewery), and it was really good! Unfortunately, by the time I got there, they had run out of redfish for the day, but my mahi tacos were amazing, I would highly recommend! My recent experience at Fish Grill was exceptional--the best customer service I've had in Waco. Audrey and Mia were outstanding waitresses who made us feel welcome and comfortable on our first visit. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The Manager also provided wonderful service, taking the time to explain the restaurant's traditions, which made our visit even more enjoyable. First of all, I've been here three times and the service is always great. The food, is subpar in my opinion. We've always gotten appetizers and an entrée and none of it was great. I recently got fried pickles that were run-of-the-mill and greasy. I also got the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was overcooked. The grits were tasty, but it was all sitting in a bath of broth that made the entire dish soupy. I don't know. I know people love this place. I just don't understand why. I will say we got the best espresso martini I've ever had! I think I'm done giving this place the benefit of the doubt read more
