Wow! This place is super popular, packed at 2:00 on a weekday afternoon. My first visit here, and the full parking lot was my first clue that this is one popular restaurant. So many unique items on the menu! I had a hard time deciding what to order. I'm vegetarian and I was happy to see roasted carrots, home style stewed tomatoes and other vegetables. The appetizers looked amazing, this would be a perfect place for a small group to order several different apps to share. Alas, I am alone so I had to choose only one. I chose the mashed potato pizza, hold the bacon. This was mentioned in a Yelp review and it did not disappoint: unique and tasty, served hot and fresh, with sour cream and scallions on the side. This was really excellent and I would make a suggestion that they serve with house made ranch on the side -instead of sour cream- to kick it up a notch. I love old-fashioned stewed tomatoes and these were truly delish. Again I would make a suggestion: serve with croutons made from their own fresh brown bread instead of what appeared to be generic prepackaged croutons. Service was super friendly and fast despite the restaurant being fairly well packed. The hostess greeted me as soon as I walked in and seated me immediately. I've been here once before but they moved buildings. The atmosphere was okay, but the lighting was awkward and the floor was weirdly slippery. The food came in large portions, but wasn't anything special for me. I consider it something that "can only be loved because it's local", but it's not my thing. I got a Turkey club with fries, and my party shared a spinach con queso appetizer. The portions are very large, akin to Cheesecake Factory. The inside is pleasing to the eye, and the seats at the bar are EXTREMELY comfy. Service was great. Server was nice enough. I ordered the homestyle chicken tenders with fries. My meal was served on two full size plates. The chicken fingers were actually three breasts with so much breading that, after breaking the breading from one, I called it a day. One word: Fantastic! This place NEVER disappoints. The food and service are always consistent - always consistently very good! There has never been a bad meal, appetizer, salad, soup, drink, experience... There's no doubt that so many things being made from scratch is what makes the difference. It is impressive that they're able to offer such a wide variety of offerings, yet there is nothing they don't do well. We've been coming for years and are grateful Doubleday's hasn't followed in the tracks of so many other restaurants by cutting corners in their food prep. (Thank you, Doubbleday's!) All of the soups - homemade and fantastic. Monster pizza - fantastic; the pretzel bites and queso, greek, cobb, cranberry apple and house salad - fantastic; the chicken quesadilla, Yuengling fish, lean bowls - fantastic. The scratch margarita - fantastic. The Sunday brunch (we've only been on Mother's day) - fantastic. Bonus? The service can always be (and has always been) consistently very good. The hostesses always hit the mark with their estimations. Every server and bartender is friendly, attentive, courteous and respectful. I think the service in Centerville was good, but the food wasn't as good as Springboro. The sweet potato fries were good. The brussel sprouts were a tad on the raw side. Onion rings were delicious. The French onion was good, but not as flavorful as I would like (and that it was in Springboro. The salads are HUGE. Ordered carry out. Showed up on time and gave my number to both girls working carry out. After waiting over 30 minutes and watching car after car come and go I decided to go in. Found out they gave me the wrong order number. Finally got my order and got home 45 minutes after the food was done. Food was cold. Carry out process was a complete disaster. Located in Centerville, Doubleday's is right next to Firestone and near My Favorite Muffin. It's known for their pizza which is what we ordered during our visit. They cut the pizza into squares and is more than enough to share with your friends and family. It's super casual and low key when dining here. On weekends, the restaurant gets pretty busy and packed so there is usually a wait. Service is good here as well. read more

A friend recommended that we check this out. She knows that we live pizza and would probably eat it multiple times per week. This is a local favorite, served by Doubledays in the restaurant or, as in our case, as a carry-out. It was a slow time at the restaurant so instead of going to pick up our pizza at the Monster door, we had to go around to the bar in the Doubledays and cash out/pick up from the bartender. Not a big deal either way. Overall we enjoyed the pizza but especially liked the fresh vegetable toppings (a lot of places do canned or slice so early in the day that the vegetables dry out or spoil). Good sauce, crispy crust, and nice overall taste. I am sure that we will be back again in the future. read more

My husband and I have been to Doubleday's a few times, usually getting their awesome burgers. Decided to try some new things from their menu this time. My husband got the French Dip, which I tried a bite of and it was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and a bowl of chili for my side . First, the chili was really good, it had a different taste to it, but it was quite delicious. The size of that bowl of chili was humongous. I should have taken that as a sign of what was to come, our wonderful waitress brings out my pot pie and it was absolutely gigantic. It was also one of the best tasting pot pies I have ever had. I've never had a bad meal from Doubleday's! We love their pizzas, but there are lots of other good menu options as well. The fried pickles are a must-- they are crispy and not overly coated, and their house made ranch is to die for. Their salad, sandwiches, and other apps are also a good option. Came here for dinner and really enjoyed it! It was pretty packed but we were sat pretty quickly and our server greeted us right away. She was awesome throughout the night. The food was really good as well. We started with the chips and salsa platter which came with guac, salsa, and a spinach queso. This was excellent. I also got a half rack of ribs, and they were fantastic. Really nice tangy sauce. The only disappointment was the french onion soup that was really bland.
