The only reason this hotel gets 1 star instead of 0 is because of a few staff members who genuinely tried to help. Laura at the front desk did what she could when our room wasn't ready upon arrival. After we mentioned the condition of the chair, she arranged one room with free parking, which we appreciated. Deanne, our waitress, was very kind and accommodating. Gilbert, our waiter, went above and beyond. Both my son and I have severe food allergies, and he took excellent care of us. His service was truly exceptional. Unfortunately, the day before (6/12), when my son had asked staff about safe food options due to his allergy, the staff on duty seemed uninterested and dismissive, which was disappointing and concerning. Jasmine in the coffee area was also very sweet. Unfortunately, the positives ended there. Julie, the bar manager, appeared to be drinking wine every time we saw her. At one point, when my husband got up to look for something, she responded with attitude rather than asking if he needed assistance. The bar was packed with softball teams and players, and it felt like helping guests and supporting staff should have been the priority. Service overall was poor. We requested towels and waited over an hour. After following up, we were told the request had been forgotten. The condition of the room was unacceptable. The chair in room 833 was broken and extremely dirty. We were told it would be replaced, but it never was. Most concerning of all, after returning home, my husband developed bites and went to urgent care...they were consistent with bedbug bites following our stay. One additional disappointment: I accidentally left my Conair 10x magnifying lighted vanity mirror in the room and called the very next day to ask if it had been turned in. Decent hotel and very close to our SNA office. Close to the spectrum but need an uber or it's about a 30 min long walk. It's clean with friendly front desk staff. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and pillows. The bathroom sinks are kinda small. The WiFi is good enough for work. The fitness center is decent with free weights, some cardio equipment and a cable weight machine. I didn't use the pool or any other facilities. Prices is very reasonable. read more

We stayed here for a night and I would highly recommend it if you need a place to stay in Irvine, CA. The front desk was very accommodating and nice. The only thing missing is the free breakfast which most Hilton hotels offer. The free shuttle to SNA is a very good addition. Had 1 night stay at the double tree, it was about a 5 min drive from the spectrum. The hotel was not very big and cute, parking was decent but there was construction on the road so be aware of that! Our king bed room was very comfortable. Bed was comfortable, and there was a big shower with great water pressure and a nice couch and a big full length mirror. This Double Tree is conveniently located near the freeway, but is not at the Irvine Spectrum. Their frond desk person was very friendly and helpful. The room was a bit lacking; it didn't look all nice like the pictures on their website. My room's rug felt a little damp and sticky. I didn't feel comfortable with walking barefoot on it. Solid hotel in the business district of Irvine. The rooms were roomie and the cafe had good coffee and decent breakfast sandwiches. The bar staff was really nice and made a good Manhattan. My company had a meeting here and used their catering options which included one of the best and spiciest salsa verdes I have had, that wasn't homemade. I was rather surprised by this and it made the meal even better. Id definitely stay here again. The only reason it doesn't get a fifth star is because the website shows that it has a shuttle to John Wayne airport when they in fact did not when I was there. They also said they had a shuttle to South Coast plaza and the manager said they did not but I showed the website to her. Our room on 3rd floor 1st it had a smell in the hallway. Carpet in Room was OLD & stained, rips, didn't want to walk in bare feet. One thin blanket on each bed & getting a decent temp on the thermostat was impossible, either cold or too warm. It was a rainy night cold outside. Also very small walking space in room No microwave only one in lobby for everyone. Maybe that's the usual with Double Tree Hilton. A Small convenience like that makes a big difference, we needed it to warm a heat wrap for pain. Stayed there as it was closest to City of Hope Irvine. If we stayed out there again I will check Marriott facilities or other places in area. read more

On a Saturday late afternoon in August, my hubby and I stayed one night here next to 133 highway and close to Irvine spectrum. I went inside and got my room key and the hotel clerk gave me free chocolate cookies. I had to use the room key for parking lot $28 a night. The lobby is nice with tables, bar, restaurant, mini market. Our room was 416 and it looked clean with a firm bed and sofa. The bathroom was clean and good water pressure. The next day we went downstairs for breakfast buffet $32 and it had plenty of people eating the buffet. There was a scramble egg station, bread, juice, fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, French toast, sausages, oatmeal, potatoes with onions. I got full after 2 servings of food. Staying at this hotel for my first multi-day business trip in Irvine, I couldn't have picked a better place. There were pricier locations closer to where I needed to meet, but this Doubletree was close enough to be a short drive, affordable for my budget, and extremely high-class for a "mid-range" hotel. I did have to navigate even the short trip to and from the venue each day, but this is a reflection on Irvine's layout, not the hotel, which was fairly easy to find even in the dark. The parking lot seemed secure and well-lit, there were plenty of luggage carts, and the staff was amazing at all hours! I also appreciated their wide stairwells at the end of each hallway (elevators are smooth and centrally located, but I prefer the stairs when I'm empty-handed) and their spacious, well-appointed exercise room, which is open 24-hours to a room keycard. While I didn't get the name of the helpful clerk at the Blend Café Market (24-hour food, drink, and accoutrement shopping in the lobby), I did note Gilbert, my server at the in-house restaurant, who prepared my order with care and panache, and whose curiosity about my stay and my reason for traveling here began as reserved politeness, but warmed gently into friendly conversation when I opened that door for a minute. The giant breakfast burrito and fruit juice I ordered were terrific, and Gilbert made my morning stop a welcome experience, and not just a meal. Even more helpful was Denise at the front desk. Denise answered a slew of questions for me on the night I checked in (it was my first time at this Doubletree and in Irvine), and she made me feel like a longtime guest returning "home" after renovations, and not a first-time visitor who hadn't traveled anywhere for business in a while. I had more questions (and already a few compliments) the next night, and I sought her out again after her extraordinary service upon arrival. She was, if anything, even more helpful that time, and I requested her name to include in this review, as well as thanking her personally for all she did for me during my stay. Denise is an absolute treasure, and I hope the Doubletree management recognizes her the way she makes every guest feel seen, heard, and valued, too. Housekeepers talked so loudly having a party woke up me up at 7 am on a Saturday and then knocked on our door multiple times & even called us to see if we are here... Like are you fr?! it's the weekend I'm so mad that I was disrupted from trying to sleep. I needed to sleep in for one day. On top of that, I paid $230 for one night of a shitty room with the most tiny sink you can't even fit your hands in and a toilet that won't flush. It's so basic for a hilton in a nice city, you would expect it to be nicer. The Cove Hotel in long beach was nicer and cheaper than this. I will stick to Hyatt from now on. read more

We had a vastly different experience this time as Hilton Honors Gold members. First, the good. The rooms are still fine. And I love the people who work in the restaurant, especially Jose who has been there during several visits. He's very welcoming and hospitable. However, the front desk hospitality is sorely lacking. Backstory: when I made my reservation (maybe a week and a half ago), I didn't get my usual free room upgrade to the 7th or 8th floor. At first I thought "maybe they're sold out?" -- but no, because I was offered my choice of literally dozens of rooms on those floors-- if I paid for an upgrade. It was confusing because if you're supposed to get a room upgrade, and there are lots of open rooms, why wouldn't I get that? I declined to pay for the upgrade, figuring once I got there, they'd sort it out. The app also said something about getting "a non-room upgrade" instead when I checked in. So flash forward to when we arrive. I've already checked into my room via the app but typically I stop off at the front desk -- they welcome you, give you your drink vouchers, tell you about the free breakfast, thank you for being Honors Gold, etc. The woman at the front desk yesterday seemed harried (not sure why -- it wasn't really busy?) She grabbed a couple of waters and shoved them at me, didn't look up my room or name or greet me. She did ask if I wanted cookies. Sure, thanks. Not sure why I got that response at check-in instead of the usual welcome where they look you up and greet you but...I figured maybe she was having a bad day. The next morning we headed down to breakfast and after asking our room number we were told they'd grab us menus (usually we're told the buffet is included, which I also thought was part of Gold). So I thought, hm, maybe there's a glitch with our reservation so I stopped at the front desk -- all smiles -- to straighten it out. The young man at the front desk this morning was very nice. He explained that the breakfast goes along with the 7th or 8th floor room upgrade. I said (genuinely confused) well, we should have had the room upgrade because of Gold, and yet we were asked to pay for a room upgrade. He agreed this was weird and he thought maybe he could just give us the breakfast, which sounded reasonable to me. I would have left happy, but in the meantime another person at the front desk came over and she said "no." She was a little more on the "stern" side -- which I didn't appreciate because I was being really nice and just trying to get my genuine questions answered, because I wasn't getting the same perks for Gold as on previous visits. I was just trying to understand. She also said that you only get the room upgrade if it's "available." She said a large group had reserved the 7th and 8th floor. Well, that might be true that there was a large group. And I certainly wasn't going to stand there and call her a liar and start an argument, but I had seen with my own eyes the LARGE number of rooms that were available on the 7th and 8th floors when I very recently made my reservation. Any large group would have made its reservation before I made mine. So a large number of rooms were in fact available. Hilton just didn't give me one. So then I told her, when I made a reservation the app said something about getting a "non-room upgrade" of some kind and maybe that referred to breakfast? She simply acted like she didn't believe me: that was aggravating too. Why would I make up something like that? The app says what it says. I gave up and went back to where my husband was already eating. Fine, we're apparently paying for the little breakfast buffet -- but how expensive could it be, right? $68. That's how much, for a really fine (when it's free) but really "nothing special" breakfast buffet. So... I understand that things happen. I understand that upgrades are based on availability. But: Tons of rooms were available -- if we paid for them. We were treated as a nuisance at check-in. We did not get any other kind of "non-room" upgrade. One of the people at the front desk, when I tried to cheerfully problem-solve, was nice, but the other treated me (at best) as if I was trying to "get things" that I wasn't entitled to or (at worst) as if I was a liar. Look, I'm not going to lie for the sake of a $68 overpriced breakfast buffet and even if you think such an uncharitable thing, that's not how you treat loyal customers, especially when they approach you with smiles and politeness and in the spirit of trying to understand a problem. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and it wasn't from the overpriced breakfast. read more

We all know I love DoubleTree for my travels since I am obsessed with their cookies. This review is for this DoubleTree's event and catering side of the business. My professional network has our monthly dinner meeting here at DoubleTree and we always have a delightful time. The décor is always on point, especially the ones for the December meetings around the holidays. The catered food is always delicious and the wait staff is really friendly and on top of things. The food is well labelled for those with dietary restrictions and there is something for everyone. Last night there was an amazing prime rib that I am still mesmerized about. They also have an area set up for self serve coffee, teas, iced teas and water. There were cups to enjoy it while we were at the event and even to-go cups for us to take it on the road. And of course DOUBLETREE COOKIES!! Yumm!! I really enjoy having meetings at this DoubleTree. When I run a bit early they have a bar in their lobby that I grab a quit drink from while waiting for the meeting time. The general layout of the meeting area is great for us to register, mingle, eat and enjoy the speaker's presentations. On meeting nights they would leave the gate open for our cars to exit, or validations would be provided. Looking forward to more meetings and more cookies in the future! I stayed here recently with my wife and 4 year old Izzy. We loved it. Ask for the cookies as they are fresh and soft! The Front desk is always so friendly. They also have a convenient coffee shop to help start your day! Finally the fitness center is actually very decent esp for a hotel. My wife and I got a good workout in all by ourselves in the late morning. My only recommendation is to make the daily parking a little cheaper. read more

Five stars for the handicap room! Shower bench built in tons of handrails everywhere. The safe is low, the closest rail is low, the coffee is low and wide enough for a chair, the desk can fit a chair, the drapes have handles that can be reached from a chair, the beds are far enough apart to fit a chair. If I was traveling to Disney with a wheelchair bound person, I would choose this hotel. I tend to check in last or close to last and have slept in at least a dozen accessible rooms and this is hands down the best setup I have seen! Three stars as a business traveler. The toilet refills itself every 30-45 minutes all night long. The shower has plenty of water pressure and heat. The bed is fairly comfortable but there isn't free coffee in the lobby and the man at the bar wouldn't let me get a coffee in the breakfast area either. The coffee in the room is only a single serving and the desk doesn't have any extra. They did offer to send someone up with an extra serving of room coffee but I declined since I didn't have cash for a tip to offer. The gym has very loud terrible music that feels like an auditory assault, that cannot be turned down. The bench precor and free weights are in good shape but there is no yoga Mats so no abs down there. There is a coffee shop /store in the lobby that is insanely expensive and has two healthy snacks offered at $5 each. read more

I had more than I could hope for from this location in terms of friendly service and attention. The staff were always graceful, even under the fire of a million sports teams arriving all at once after tournament games. Which means, they are dealing with the sports PARENTS... if you know what I mean. Good bar. Us parents are either elated and want to party... or we are hangry and bummed. Crapshoot on how that can affect the attitudes given to the staff by our groups, but staff always just smiled and asked what they could do to help. Calm and helpful, even to the douchebags. I found they were staffed enough so that no server or bartender was clearly gritting their teeth. Sure, you gotta be patient, but on my stay they seemed to staff it really efficiently to handle the rush times. Front desk staff were amazing. Finally on service: wonderful attendants doing the room cleanings, etc. Great beds, super clean, convenient, bar that doesn't close too early, convenient location, and a little clean pool and hot tub that was used by our group parents and athletes... So, all the things were clicking. Is truly is great for team sports groups in particular - and I've been to many many SoCal hotels tournies over the years. This one has been 'best in class' for its value, as far as my experiences go. Someone else had docked a star because of some free shuttle issues, but that might be a you-can't-win-them-all category, because for us it was fabulous. Our group used it many times to avoid the parking nightmare at the Spectrum Center which is really close - IF it's just a drive. So, shuttle worked like a charm for us multiple times. And our teenage boys were good with it too, so we could let them have their indendence without worry once they dialed the shuttle logistics. No driving in LA... we're not from here! Thank you staff!!!!! For CORPORATE, if you ever read this: the door handle signs constantly fall off. I've been trying to help the room attendants to NOT clean that much, for resource conservation's sake. I do not need new sheets or the bedroom changed or the room vacuumed every day; we just need those towels and toilet paper and a few bathroom supplies. We were working it all out simply and elegantly in person with our lovely room service team, but the damn sign came off the door every time and it kind of just ended up causing confusion. It would also be helpful if they had OPTIONS for messaging. I would love one side to message the Do Not Disturb, and the the other side to have the option to something like "Cleaning Not Necessary, but supplies appreciated!". Both sides just kind of say "Come Back Later Please". Upshot: the signs could message a lot more directly, and they need to STAY on the door handle. This location is very clean, convenient to the 24 hour cafe downstairs, and to Irvine Spectrum. They offer full breakfast for $35 for adults and $14 for kids under 12. However, they offer you a $15 coupon so you could pay $15 instead of $14 for kids. They don't have a single microwave in the hotel, not even in the lobby. I was told that you can pay $2 to get a microwave for our room. The pool is small and they don't allow outside food. This was my second business stay, first stay was ok, but my TV didn't work until I rebooted it as I got no other help. This time, I learned that I can choose my own room ahead of time and get the touch room key on my phone. It turns out you still have to check in at the front desk to provide the ID. When I opened the door (4th floor) a foul smell of moldy damp room hit me and there was no way I could stay there breathing it 2 nights. I asked for another room. 2nd floor. Smell was till there as well and the bathtub had toilet paper stuffed in instead of a bathtub stopper. I wanted to call downstairs but the phone was offline (yes it was plugged in). I asked for another room. Third room (also on 2nd floor for some reason) was still damp and smelled like vinegar the whole time of my stay. I was originally on 4th floor, I got downgraded to 2nd to stare at a concrete roof, I suppose I was punished for the switch. Usually the hotel would be embarrassed and upgrade you, but not here, and I just wanted a non-smelly room. At my 3rd room TV didn't work neither and I had to reboot. 1 coffee pack only. There is no exhaust in this hotel's bathrooms so the moisture never leaves. My colleague had a room with a door on the bathtub (I had motel-style curtain) and he said that water leaked through the glass door when he showered and had to clean up the floor but it was too late when he got out as it leaks out and under the carpet. Hmm, I wonder if that's where the mold comes from, just happily growing unseen under. We bring so much business to this hotel, yet even a motel is maintained better. Restaurant is understaffed in the evenings but at least there is one. The kiosk is great to have 24/7. read more

I'm a Hilton Diamond member and this is one of the finest Hilton properties I've stayed at. They actually provide room upgrades to Hilton Honors members days before the stay. The staff is kind and helpful all around. Their bar area is great for meeting up and after dinner drinks. Their breakfast with omelette station beats almost every other Hilton property breakfast. Rented a day room through Daypass app after returning from a cruise. Person checking me in seemed as though I was bothering her. It wasn't until I inquired about adding my Hilton number to the account that she softened- not much. Hotel was clean. They have a Peloton in the gym but you need your cycling shoes to ride. Small pool and hot tub area. Noisy by the pool due to location being next to highway. Luckily you can't hear noise inside of rooms. read more

The room and front desk service was fine. The problem is the parking, in that if you check out of your room, and then try to exit the parking, the gate won't read your room key because you have checked out. I went through this last year at the same hotel. So this year, I just left my room, got in my car, and successfully got out of the parking area, but now I still need to check out. The only telephone number listed for the hotel online pops you to a general number for all Hilton Doubletree hotels. The person who answered said he couldn't help me, but could give me the number to the front desk. I asked if he could please wait a moment, while I got a pen and something to write on. He rattled off the number, which I didn't get the first time, and when I asked for him to repeat it, he was gone. So frustrating... I know you will say that by checkout time, they will assume that I am gone, but the cleaning people appreciate being able to get a jump on cleaning rooms if people are already out. All hotels seem to have this issue, where they route you to some global telephone number, rather than giving you a direct number to the hotel. There was no number at all listed on the little pocket thing they give you with your room card. Thank goodness for the yummy free cookies they hand out at check-in - LOL. And the woman who checked me in put me on a higher floor, away from the noise, which I really appreciated. So if you can fix the issue with the room key and getting out of the gated parking, plus a direct number that can be found online to the hotels, plus more helpful people answering the telephone, I could have given you a better rating. read more

So, the hotel itself is decent and clean, but starting to wear down. Location is great and close to Irvine Spectrum. The issue is when I called to add my husband to the reservation. They asked to transfer me to Hilton Grand Vacations and they would give out extra points if you take a call. Honestly I thought I was transferred for a survey until I realized the rep was trying to sell a discounted vacation package. I told them multiple times if this was for timeshare I was not interested. The rep was a bit evasive and said that I should call back the number and talk with the concierge line. I confirmed if deposit was refundable and they assured me it was. This is a SCAM for timeshare. If you call them, they will say this has always been non-refundable and give you a hard time to a refund. I always thought Hilton was a reliable hotel, not a shady business. I am sorry this is the type of company they have become. This is just a warning for everyone who is booking with any Hilton brands. read more

this hotel will charge you extra if you're a smoker, even if you don't smoke in the room. I would never stay here again. They charged me over $250 and I didn't smoke in the room at all. One of there managers I spoke with has no experience in how to deal with customer. She was really rude and wouldn't listen to what I had to say. I think it's crazy that they can charge you even if you didn't smoke in the room!!! read more

Upon check in, the inept female, front desk manager with glasses & a ponytail ran my cc through 4 separate times sending out a RED FLAG WARNING to my financial institution. Therefore when I tried to use it for a sundry expense, it was declined. Then she arrived at my room with a security team to boot me out at 7:00 am after I arrived from Hawaii on the RED EYE flight, Kona to LAX, landed at 6:00 am after a 5 hour flight departing Kona at 11:45pm (time on mainland, 1:45 am... ) So as I gathered up my belongings, I couldn't figure out why my credit union of almost 30 years was declining a mere hold/deposit upon check in. Well, Miss NeedsALessonInCustomerService should answer that and apologize for inconveniencing me at 7:00 am after no rest and a big bunch of made out of nothing except her ineptitude and unsympathetic attitude. Thank goodness I was welcomed at my favorite in Newport Beach, the Hyatt on Jamboree by Newport Dunes. My grandkids love that place better anyway, especially when they swim out to the welcoming blue whale. Maybe Miss Hospitality can take a few pointers from Wally, the blue Newport dunes whale. read more
