We stayed two nights for a wedding. We were so busy I totally spaced and didn't get a lot of pictures! Gr! Anyway, upon checking in, we got warm chocolate chip cookies which were delicious! The Man ate his right away. I ate mine the next morning for breakfast and it was STILL yummy! Super soft! The rooms are very decent. Coffee, iron, blow dryer, mini fridge, and automatic curtains! THAT was a first! The pillows and bed were pretty comfortable. Overall, typical hotel feel (except the cookies!) but very comfortable. My only complaint: our 9th floor window had a pretty good view; however, we also faced train tracks that trains loved to blow through and honk at 3am. read more

I spent the night here on March 15 2025 and checked out on March 16 2025. My overall stay was great. Parking was very easy as they have a parking garage directly across the street. Check-in at the front desk was a breeze and the worker was very friendly and informative. The room was clean and well stocked. The only two issues were the trains all night and the water pressure in the shower. The train horns made sleeping impossible and the water in the shower came out as a trickle (at best). Everything else was fine and I will stay here again. Hopefully the hotel can recommend a room where the train noise will be less. read more

We checked in after midnight and had a laugh over a misunderstanding of my hubby's with the female wearing dreads. The place is updated but the rooms need a little more updating. We were in room 612 and heard trains every hour and sirens all night, but the bed was comfy. The shower pressure was strong which I LOVE, but the water temperature kept fluctuating between scolding hot and cold so I had to constantly turn the knob. While your staff--from the valet to housekeeping and the breakfast team--were helpful and friendly, several issues detracted from the experience compared to my previous visits over the years. Upon check-in, I was upgraded to a room near the train tracks and the emergency exit (not much of an upgrade in my opinion) where we heard trains three times each night. The first night, we noticed a strong smell of cigarette smoke coming through the vent, and the hallways were noisy and people yelling all hours of the night. On the second night, we encountered additional issues: a toilet that wouldn't stop running unless manually adjusted, a heater that was so loud we had to turn it off (leaving the room freezing), missing body wash in the shower, and visible makeup stains on the bathroom's sliding door. The windows were covered in condensation, contributing to visible mold around the frames, and the lack of double panes made outside noise easily audible. The room felt musty and outdated compared to the bright, clean, and welcoming lobby. Unfortunately, being near a stairwell meant we were also disturbed by yelling and screaming guests, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. While we considered requesting a room change, our schedule made moving impractical. I've been a guest off and on at this hotel for 15 years and was pleased to see familiar staff, including the valet gentleman (man with dark circles) who's consistently provided excellent service. However, the combination of noise, maintenance issues, and the overall condition of the room and the issues with the loud guest's gives me pause about returning. read more

This Double Tree By Hilton is located in the downtown life of Modesto, CA. There's so many places to go eat, shop, be entertained and see cultural sites such as the Gallo Center for the Arts. I wish my husband was here on this trip. This hotel is huge. Valet parking is $17. Highly recommended. Self parking is $20 and you have to park across the street and walk over. Walking inside the Double Tree, it's highly boogie. It's elegant from the lobby decor, dining area, even the mini store is cute. They have their own restaurant located inside. Breakfast is not included in your stay. It's a Smorgasboard of food. I just walked through. Didn't get pictures. They have everything you want for breakfast. My room tho it is spacious. It is outdated compared to the lobby. The carpet and wall paper need replacing. Very simple work space. There is a microwave and mini fridge. Lots of lights. Not enough charging space for all my gadgets. The bed was really comfortable. Shower was hot. I was ready for the work day ahead. Next time I come, we'll see the city. read more

January 15, 2023 - Arrived to the hotel in evening and was met by front desk employee Arnulfo. Arnulfo seemed to be the least bit interested in welcoming me to the hotel. After receiving my room key, I went up to the seventh floor where I was met with a strong musty and moist odor. Once I entered my room (710), I learned that where I was staying looked NOTHING like what is shown in the photographs from the hotel. [What I'm coming to see from other reviews is that they pick and choose who gets their newly renovated nice rooms (theres a theme if you look at the people in other reviews or GALLO employees)... Because when presented to look into other rooms, none of the newer rooms were an option] When I walked into the room, the high level of moisture inside smacked me in the face. Upon inspection of the room, the windows were entirely drenched from condensation. From the condensation, black mold around the entire window frame. I found more black mold in the bathroom on the ceiling. To add more insult to injury, there was clumps of someone's (believed to be a female due to the length) hair all over the counter above the refrigerator. The floors were dark from dirt, moist/sticky. I was afraid to check out the rest of the room. I contacted Hilton Honors [separate negative review incoming soon] who said they'd "escalate the matter to corporate", and offered nothing more. I then asked to speak to hotel management; however, there was no management on-duty to address the issue. It was at this moment I realized there was absolutely no way I could give DoubleTree my money and booked elsewhere. I returned to meet with Arnulfo, who remained un-interested in reconciling the situation or offering a solution. At this moment, I DECIDED TO LEAVE THE HOTEL AND STAY ELSEWHERE!!! I asked Arnulfo for some form of a receipt to show that I would not be staying at the hotel. Arnulfo refused, saying he did not have a means to which to offer proof. Knowing I absolutely could not stay at this hotel, I took the chance and left. Glad I did! Home2Suites in Turlock was clean, safe, staff was much more accommodating and welcoming. Verdict: Don't go here! Its not in a safe location, its dirty, front desk staff are rude/unattentive, its not what they are marketing on the website. The staff was so friendly from the moment we walked in after a long 7 1/2 hour drive from Oregon that we were exhausted from ... it was brought to my attention that I had accidentally booked the reservation for the wrong night / that I had been marked a "no show" the night before (last minute decision the night before to book it and I apparently booked it for the night I made the reservation NOT the following night as intended) ... totally my fault! Embarrassing since I'm a Reservations Manager myself (not for any Hilton affiliated property). Not only was the front desk staff friendly and helpful in creating a new reservation for me for the night, but Cathy was extremely helpful and understanding and worked with me to help me resolve my "no show" the following day. I so appreciated the fact that they were willing to work with me on something that was not their fault. The pool was nice for my son and the rooms are clean. Very positive experience. Definitely a good reflection for Hilton. I will stay here again if I need a stopping point again. read more

WILL NOT STAY HERE AGAIN First of all I checked in and I asked if they have water and the attendant points me to the water fountain when I just heard th offer a water bottle to guy checking in next to me then I see that they give this other lady chocolate chip cookies after her check in and I also don't get anything. Then I'm told my room is not ready yet but it will be ready at 3pm which is ck in time and I'm ok with that didn't even mind that I didn't get water or cookies. 3 pm comes and I'm told my room is ready yet and I ask about water and again I'm told to go to the water fountain 3:30 I ask again and no room 3:45 and no room and at this point I'm loosing my patience. I go again at 3:50 and they are telling me my room is still not ready but then Ray comes to talk to me, tells me that they are going to give me a specific room to which I say I did not request a specific room and all I want is a room because I have an event I need to be at at 5pm and here is 4pm now. Ray was very apologetic, The only courteous person I came across at this location so finally I get a room and he hands me the cookies I should of gotten when I checked in. Modesto is a tough place to run any business, but Hilton DoubleTree here does a good/solid job. Parking is across the street for $12, but make sure you clear your car of any valuables. Front desk staff here was excellent, friendly, professional. Came here on Christmas evening and they were just as fantastic as any other night, despite working a holiday. Rooms are mildly dated but overall still nice and respectable, clean and tidy. Showers are hot and water pressure great. If you need to find a quick place to stay while passing through or doing work in town, this is a safe and clean place to find lodging. read more

Well it's big, I can tell you that. If you find yourself at a conference or some other large event in Modesto, it's probably going to be at the doubletree. The hotel stands out on the horizon as the biggest building in the county so you can't miss it and it kind of pulls you in. The entrance to the lobby can be pretty congested so be prepared for a tricky check-in. The lobby is spacious, clean and quite nice. The rooms are spacious and a bit outdated but clean and comfortable. I will say that we were checked into a room that smelled like a cigarette den, but they moved us into one that smelled more like a bottle of bleach - well at least we new it was clean! Parking is in the garage across the street and costs $12/day. Kind of funny that you have to pay for parking in Modesto but it's not a lot so we didn't complain much. Overall, since you don't really have any other nearby options, the doubletree is a fine enough place to spend a night. read more

Love Doubletree! They were able to fit me in at the last minute as I had to travel up north to go do some professional activities. They are very centrally located in downtown Modesto. In fact if you are used to taking the train in the central valley, you could take the train and get off here in Modesto as they are nearly straight across the street from the train station. It's a beautiful and elegant train station as well fun for historical reasons. The Doubletree is a really elegant and comfortable hotel to stay in. The swimming pool is open and it's outdoors. Just had time to squeeze in a last summer's swim. Due to the coverage situation, the inground spa/Jacuzzi is a non-functional at this time. Every Doubletree is different as the staff for telling me. This one you were able to retrieve ice yourself as it's an ice machine and not an open been to dip into. Morning breakfast and snacks are somewhat limited but still available in the lobby area as far as continental breakfast: rolls, muffins, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea, bagels and cream cheese and fruit. The cost was nominal. The rooms are spacious and there's a giant flatscreen TV in my room with a king bed. The beds are covered with pillows and so it's very easy to feel comfortable and to relax after any professional consultation or study or what have you. This hotel is centrally located and there are numerous restaurants round about. A number of them have adapted to having outside dining, or patio dining. Staff in the hotel are very responsive. Starbucks coffee is available. There's Coffee and tea service in your room, with a small mini refrigerator which you can bring your leftovers from your meal to to have on hand. When I'm feeling Presidential in the great city of Modesto, there is only one place I go to fulfill my Presidential needs....and that's the Doubletree. The double-door entryway lets you know where you stand in the hierarchy of hotel guests from the moment you step in the room, and the globe on the living room end table concurs-- when you find a globe in your hotel room, you know you have achieved Presidential status. As I reclined in the jacuzzi tub (after pressing a series of mystery buttons and setting the large TV to Real Housewives), my mind wandered to how many other Presidential butts have sat on the same bidet as me. Clinton? Bush? Even Trump maybe? I made sure to open the curtains wide and leave the glorious chandelier lit up all night so all who drove by could see that yes, the Presidential Suite is indeed occupied, and yes, it is indeed me in town. Slightly disappointed that the stereo system in the room couldn't receive any radio stations, and I didn't bring any CDs to play with me. So unfortunately I could not have a solo disco party under the chandelier. However, who has time for a disco party when you're hosting important meetings for 8 at the dining table? Luckily, the room has a half bath so I didn't have to face the indignity of sharing a toilet with my non-Presidential guests. 10/10 will only go to the Doubletree to meet my Presidential needs in Modesto. read more

The room was not clean! It was the small things, but it was noticeable. The toilet had something on the seat ,thank God we brought lysol wipes! Something disgusting came out of the coffee macine when the coffee was brewed, and there was only one cup for the coffee. There was hair in the bed that did not belong to us ,we had just turned down the blankets. The person I traveled with gets cold due to medical reasons and there was no heat in the room. The pillows were hard, and one of the mattresses (we had 2) was lumpy and felt like it had seen better days. The staff were nice in the dinning area and the man who carried our luggage was also nice and helpful which is why the 3 stars. For starters I have to say. For Modesto being such a rural little city. This hotel made our visit to this city a pleasure. We had a very comfortable, clean stay for a few days. Valet is recommended if you don't mind paying a little extra. We were pleasantly surprised with the bar/ restaurant downstairs near the lobby. The entire place is modern and up to date. We ordered some margaritas, and lemon drops for drinks. The bartender made these delicious and in my opinion was an experienced mixologist. To start, we had the cesar salad which was fresh and tasty. For dinner we had the salmon which came on a bed of rice with veggies, and the chicken breast plate which came with a side of mashed potatoes and veggies. As mentioned, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of our meal. 2 thumbs up there. As for the room, the bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. Sheets were clean so there were absolutely no issues there for us. One thing to keep in mind is the hotels location. It's near the train tracks, so you may be awoken by it once or twice. For us, we only noticed it the first night. After that, we slept through it no problem. The comfortable bed made sleeping through any noise a breeze. All in all, it was a nice stay. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. My family stayed one night on the 6th floor. There were bugs in the bathroom (roaches and ants), stains on the sheets, floors, furniture, and curtains. The shower drain did not work. Also, there was a loud train that went by and blew its horn 4 times overnight. The pillows were lumpy, and the beds both caved into the middle. This place sucks. It's right next to train tracks. You'll be woken up every 2.5 hrs by a loud train horn in the middle of the night. My room did not have a microwave so I had to go to the lobby every time to heat up my food. There is only one microwave so good luck. Parking is either valet parking that cost $17 per day or garage self parking that costs $12 per day. Said parking garage is across the street. There is no room on the bathroom sink to set any toiletries down like your toothbrush, hair accessories, or cleansing products. There is no breakfast offered. read more

The hotel is clean... showing its age in their room-level floor carpeting . It's a nice place -- very expensive -- but a nice place for the most part. What isn't nice is that there are only TWO parking spots for those drivers with disabilities, the hotel parking lot filled vehicles of those who have opted for their expensive valet parking service. Finding those TWO slots always filled over the past 17 months I've been temporarily stating there, we were invited to park our vehicle in the nearby parking garage -- 400 feet away: anything left in vehicles will be removed by the city's burgeoning homeless population at no extra charge, the method employed by the City of Modesto to feed its homeless population by allowing them to feed off the contents of vehicles left there. So, as there were no luggage carts available, we were faced with carrying several hundreds of pounds of equipment, luggage, first aid gear, tools, etc, across busy 9th Street -- no doubt making several trips. Uh, the reason that I'm sporting one of those blue parking passes is that my legs (and knees) were seriously damaged during military service, and, incidentally, also by serious, significant back injuries and multiple subsequent spinal surgeries. A large hotel like this might have many guests who can't walk without the aid of appliances if at all. While Doubletree doesn't care much about this inconvenience to a few, opting to make even more money through its valet parking... all the rage of the big hotel chains. Tasking those disabled with carrying their luggage several hundreds of feet from the hotel while carrying their luggage, etc, across a very busy street isn't what they're in business for. While I can hack it, most other seasoned citizens can't. Maybe an ADA lawsuit will change their mind: attempting to communicate with them hasn't. read more

Stayed here two nights on a weekend in the summer. Would not come back unless I had to! First, the train track is literally across the street and blares it's horn many times a night for 20-45 seconds each time. Second, this is not a safe area. The first night we heard many gun shots and sirens for hours. Third, the street that the hotel is off of is straight and is apparently a race track on weekends. We spent the first night listening to the train, gunshots and illegal street racing all night. The hotel is ok. The rooms are lacking everything. Two towels for two queens. By the way not really sure it was a queen. It was very small. Their sheets and blankets are just a bunch of sheets on top of each other. No comforter or any thick blankets at all. House keeping is terrible. Nobody came to clean the room, but all the rooms around us were cleaned daily. We called down for extra towels, blankets and pillows and it took over 45 minutes and we only received one towel and one pillow extra. No blankets. The phones don't work like they should. Not one button works properly. Highly disappointing! Paid $149 a night for this! read more

Everything that was shown on the website was not actually served. $20 per person, this place should really reconsider charging less for the limited amount of choices they really had. I'm giving a 3star rating by the simple fact the manager did refund our bill (scrambled eggs where not fully cooked, potatoes not cooked enough... bacon was decent but let's be real we can get full off of only bacon), not even oatmeal choices. The lobby makes it seem like it's a really nice hotel, but after the lobby, beware. The rooms smelled, the bathrooms were chipping paint, and front desk staff are not welcoming. The Valet guys are really nice, and the pool is decent. The spa is small, but really hot, so that's a plus. Pillows are a little bit thicker than a sheet of paper, so bring your own. The beds are about as comfortable as a park bench. read more

Fire your "night manager" and maybe you'll have better reviews and a better business. Claimed my Apple credit card was fraudulent and cancelled my reservation with my 1 year old in tow. Huge hassle. If you are too dumb to know the difference between an Apple credit card and an Apple pay card, you shouldn't be working in a high traffic business. Apple credit cards don't have numbers on them to literally protect you from fraud. I guess when you have ditzy people working, you get terrible service. What a shame considering I always stay here and never have problems using my Apple card. Get with the times or simply retire. I probably won't ever be back after that kind of service. UPDATE: I did call and speak with the real manager about being denied entry and having my reservation cancelled due to the night shift front desk lady (older, heavier set white lady who refused to give me her name, supervisors name, or corporates number) claiming that my Apple card was "fraudulent" for not having numbers on it (none of the Apple credit cards have numbers on them to protect against fraud). The manager said she didn't understand why the employee acted in the manner that she did. Stating that all employees know that any card used in their establishment just needs to have the name match the name on the ID (which mine did). She seemed confused by the employees actions and couldn't give me a reason as to why the employee chose to take matters into her own hands (ie pick and choose who can keep their reservation). This led me to believe that the whole thing was racially motivated which I suspected from the beginning. I've already emailed corporate regarding the situation. All the manager was able to do for me was offer an apology without any explanation as to why my family was denied entry even with our reservation and valid ID/ credit card. I booked directly from the Hilton website so no confusion there. I'm hoping that corporate will be able to provide a bit more clarity regarding how a front desk employee is able to cancel reservations based off of peoples race and claiming its because shes never seen an Apple credit card. Somehow she claimed it was an Apple cash card and her exact words were (everyone can get one and that it wasn't special). I doubt Apple cash cards (if they even exist) are titanium and have a Mastercard logo on them. But anyways, at the very least, the employee should be RE-TRAINED and maybe even go through discrimination training to prevent this from happening again. BEWARE, RACIAL PROFILING AND DISCRIMINATION TAKING PLACE AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT. Being passed off as "fraud" and claiming that you are trying to commit fraud just for being any race other than white. I had originally given the hotel 5 stars. I'm a travel nurse and would usually come to this hotel for their day rates. Today I went in as I have done several times before and was turned away by the front desk attendant. She told me that day use rooms had to be booked online. I asked for her name because in all of the times I have stayed here before, I have never been turned away or denied help in getting a room. I have also never been told to book online. I have receipts from other times I've been here that show I've never booked online. What was it today? Jessica was in a bad mood so I couldn't get help with getting a room? Bizarre. Jessica was very rude. Her delivery was awful and she had this smirk on her face as she just kept repeating herself that I could only do it online. I told her I've stayed here before several times, I don't think she believed me. Seriously, how rude and unnecessary. I guess this place is a hit or miss, depends who you get for the type of service you can expect. But how miserable of a person do you have to be to find enjoyment in my confusion. I asked for the manager and Jessica laughed at me. So I left. I'm not paying for this. Very ghetto. I will never stay here again. I did not deserve the treatment I got. I have to give a star but this place is disgusting. Hilton should be ashamed. Front desk girl was sweet and apologized for all the inconvenience from renovations. The front door is no long you have to try to find the side door. The parking is across the street and you have to go through a walkway. Into an elevator that's also gross. Everything in lobby is closed off everything is old, smelly and dirty. The room disgusting I could not sleep and we will be asking for a refund. read more

First time in a DoubleTree property, and I had mixed results. Starting with the front desk supervisor during the afternoon-evening shift on 5/23, I found her to be pretty rude & pretentious. The rest of the staff, from Brittany, the room service guy, and the morning staff in the Maxis restaurant "made it right." No other issues other than the front desk supervisor. The room, in my opinion, was average in decor. The furniture seemed slightly dated, yet the bed was comfortable. Amenities from below (I was on the 7th floor) seemed appealing, in that there was an outdoor hot tub & pool. And then there was Maxis, the restaurant. Nice, nice, nice! Parking is fairly simple- either $12 to self-park, or $17 to valet. If self-parking, you can take the enclosed walkway on the third floor and walk over. Or, you can take your time, and walk via the crosswalks. There is a bar adjacent to Maxis restaurant that has everything you need. FYI, there is a train that passes at all hours of the night blowing its train horn. Annoying? Yes! The hotel gives you complimentary ear plugs for the train horn, which I felt was a good gesture. But seriously folks, complain to the City of Modesto on this one, and not the hotel. Not the hotel's fault that the train blows its horn almost at will. Altogether, not a bad stay. The cookies at the time of check-in were a nice touch. read more

Just visited the bar and got some appetizers. It wasn't busy so the food came out quick. I ordered the calamari and the dipping sauce was really good. The bartender was super friendly but I can't remember her name! Too many hazys on me already. Definitely a quiet bar to go to when you're downtown and want to grab a quick bite or drink. read more
