I do understand that COVID can make the experience of going out less simple. but we stood in line outside for 40 minutes before we could enter the shop. It took 40 minutes for the 7 people in front of us to pick up their pastries. I'm not sure if this is because of the individuals or something going on behind the counter but it was frustrating. They weren't horrible tasting. The Boston creme has a very bitter chocolate frosting and the creme isn't the original Boston creme filling I was expecting. As other reviewers have pointed out, these donuts are huge and delicious and definitely should be a cut-into-quarters-so-you-can-try-each-kind kind of event. While I tend to prefer the tart toppings, they also have sweetly tempting ones for the more traditional donut-loving folks out there. So, third donut review in 30 days since Salem has a plethora of new donut options as of late. Dough Hook Bake Shop did not disappoint. The doughnuts are priced above your normal donuts but they are bigger (I would say about twice the weight of a normal donut) they are thicker than average, a little bigger round ways too. Crime brûlée donut was standout to me, the filling was perfect and tasted fresh made, and was spot on, brûlée'd sugar on outside was perfect. Only slight disappointment was double chocolate, but that's more since I'm not a dark chocolate fan and I was hoping more milk chocolate. Drink selection was very lacking, but I think this is more due to just opening. 10/10 would eat again read more

The dough in the donuts was soft and fluffy, with housemade icing that will knock your socks off. By far the best donut shop in town and better than overhyped Voodoo Doughnuts that seems to always serve stale donuts and the frosting is so so for the price and especially not worth the drive. King donuts is good but good luck finding any donuts left or it being open when you get there since they almost always close before 11am on a weekday. Just got a couple and the marionberry was just perfect, right amount of sweet and the dough was really soft without being too dense. Got horchata, Oreo and caramel donuts as well. Happy to come back next time and try some different ones, come check out the big donuts and at a cheap price. You won't be let down. The two people making them were incredibly nice and the gentleman was speaking in Spanish to me which was always nice to have a little conversation. This is a welcome addition to Salem with their upgrade to the standard `70`s donuts to otherwise be found throughout the Capitol. Pretty basic menu and sadly did not try the coffee but really enjoyed the Passionfruit, Chocolate, Creme Brulee doughnuts. I'm just going to echo the other reviewers, but I just had to add my own 5 star review. The donuts are seriously huge, fluffy, the right amount of dense, and extremely satisfying. The taste of the dough is fantastic, it is a wonderful yeast bread. The varieties are unique, unlike a place like daynight that just offers all the standard donut flavors, here you'll find varieties that you'll just instantly associate with Dough Hook. We've only had the horchata, double chocolate ganache, and apple fritter so far and can't wait to try the rest when our diet allows. I plan to bring a nice dozen to the office soon. read more

Yum! Great customer care. They wore masks and were very friendly! They had limited selection due to snow, which meant we got to try flavors we maybe wouldn't have normally tried.
