My favorite drink is back! It's the matcha coconut water which I believe is a spring and summer seasonal drink now, and it's as good as I remember. The drink was $7.14 which isn't too bad, but the taste is great. It's very refreshing and not heavy at all. I came on a Sunday morning and the inside was a little busy, so I decided to sit outside. They have maybe 4 tables outside with music playing so it was quite nice. One more thing -- i really like the cup lid. Sometimes you'll go to a place and the lid makes it really hard to get an even stir/shake but with their lid it's so easy as you just plug the top with a finger and shake. We are forever grateful for that alone. As someone who already loves Vietnamese culture through food here in New Orleans, this place just hits. I went with the Chantilly and berries because... you already know, I'm gonna choose what feels like home every time. The cream was smooth, the fruit was fresh, everything worked. My only thing--personally--it was a little heavy on the almonds for me. Still good, just my preference. We also had The American--eggs, bacon, French ham, hand-cut fries, garlic aioli, and a baguette. I shared it with my son and made my own little sandwich moment with it. Used the aioli as a base, layered the eggs, bacon, and ham... and I feel like that's exactly what it was meant for. Solid, simple, and filling. I've tried a few other things too like the bánh mì and donuts. The bánh mì was good, donuts were okay... not my go-to for that. But that frozen cocktail? Listen... it was TOO good. Took it to a festival with me and between that drink and that sun, I slept the whole festival away lol. Overall, I'll definitely be back. I tried out one of their summer specials, a large Iced Coconut Water with Matcha Foam (with tax = $8.24), & their Strawberry and Blueberry Coconut Chia Pudding (with tax = $7.64). The Chia Pudding was really good! The texture was so light and fluffy. All of the ingredients blended well together. The Iced Coconut Water with Matcha Foam was good too. It was really refreshing, but I wished that the drink had more of a strong matcha flavor to it. It was still a solid drink. The service was okay and quick. Great lunch choice for our group today, while visiting Gretna on business. Very smooth process for ordering and lots of great choices for lunch and sweet treats. One had Shrimp Toast (think avocado toast presentation), one had the Hot Honey Chicken Sliders (actually sized between a slider and a full "dinner-sized" sandwich. Needless to say, only one was finished because of the size. I had the Jambon Mi (sic?) and it was for me a perfect ham and Swiss sandwich. Loved it! The chicken and my sandwich both came with fresh-cut fries and those were also phenomenal. Had to try their Biscoff cookie for a treat and if you like Biscoff then it was every bit (and more) that you would expect. To top it off, everything averaged about $15 per person for lunch. Oh my! Vietnamese coffee is my new obsession and I loved it so much, I came here twice in one weekend! I ordered the ice cafe trung, both times! And what that is, is a classic Vietnamese egg coffee that combines chilled coffee with a rich and creamy whipped egg yolk topping, in addition to my favorite part - condensed milk! It was creamy and so smooth. I just really savored it, the second time anyway. I probably downed the first one in a minute and I ordered the large. Tthe condensed milk with the egg yolk flavors were singing! I had no idea I would love this so much and I am great I tried something new. I also ordered the special of the day, the fried chicken sandwich. It was crispy and I loved the pickles, but it was not my favorite fried chicken sandwich. Something was different with the batter, it was almost like a tempura, like fry, but the sauce did help. It was good enough for me to eat all of it. I also had a slice of the cookie butter cheesecake. It was very good too, again not my favorite, but again, I ate every bit of it. Stopped in here on New Year's day just to have a matcha. No, saw the s'mores latte said new years resolutions start on Mondays only. So yummy. S'mores sometimes just tastes like sugar. But here they really gave the marshmallow chocolate cinnamon. Then I fell in love with how light and bright it was so I sat down to see what other trouble I could get into. Loved the bao bun. Good sweet and savory. After leaving I tried the cookies (oatmeal raisan and ube) and they were my favorite type of cookie. Like some how chewy but with a good bite from the outside. Not super sweet and allowing the flavor to shine. I do understand the folks who have 3 stars. They missed me with the chia pudding parfait. Every component was middle of the road. What an amazing culinary surprise on the West Bank!! I had heard this place is a 'Nguyener' because of its great, unique eats, and it absolutely is!! It is a Vietnamese bakery that serves up the most delicious fresh baked goods as savory bites like Bahn mi. I'm normally the savory eater and my so much sweet, but walking In and seeing all of their baked sweet treats, I was drawn in. I had their almond croissant and Bahn mi with baked chicken thigh - both were amazing. It was a lot of food too took me about three sessions to eat it all. Dough Nguyener's is 1 block from my home which makes it easy to enjoy all the good items that they have to offer. Just look at my pictures that I posted of all the pastries and Banh Mi sandwiches available here. During Mardi Gras season you can special order King Cakes which are pretty good. The fried chicken and hot honey sliders are legit as well. Just give at least 20 minutes for the fried chicken as it's cooked to order. The service here is awesome, parking is easy just across the street. The dining and restrooms are always clean. You order your food at the counter and then it's delivered to your table. Stopped in for a snack on a Friday afternoon. Very close to closing time for them, but they were up front about what was available and what was too late to get. Atmosphere inside was nice, quiet with lots of lighting and the delicious smells of bakery and coffee. We were able to get parking in an empty lot across the street. Had my first Vietnamese coffee with cold foam. After 2 sweeteners, it was very good. Paired it with a cherry cheese Danish and I was set! This is a great lunch spot with an outdoor seating option. I love their pink brand color too! Inside, the tables are close together, making it tricky and uncomfortable to squeeze between them, especially when it's crowded. Tip for remote workers: If you're planning to work here, bring your laptop fully charged. There's only one accessible indoor outlet (by the front door), and it's a popular table. Outdoor outlets are available, but the WiFi doesn't work outside. Food & Drinks: Food-wise, I recommend the sliders, turkey sandwich, or Nguyening Wings with shrimp toast. The hot vanilla latte is decent. I've had better at cafes and coffee shops across the river, but this is the best coffee I've found on the Westbank. I also like that they keep clean cups on the counter if you want water. Other drink options include Coca-Cola products and iced tea. Heads up: Their menu is on the pricier side. If you're a french fry fanatic like me, I'd skip theirs. The shape is awkward, they're pricey, and they are sold separately from sandwiches. Unless you're splitting with others, you'll probably have leftovers. Pastries: Pastries aren't a strong point. Cupcakes I've tried haven't been fresh or moist, the strawberry cupcake tasted like a grocery store's boxed mix, and the chocolate cupcake icing was extremely hard both times I tried it. The turkey and Swiss croissant was just okay. Although it was heated, the turkey and cheese inside were cold. Service: Service tends to be better on weekends, as staff are more attentive, knowledgeable about entree's ingredients and availability of substitutions, and overall warmer and friendlier compared to weekday afternoons. I like that they have to-go containers on the counter so you don't have to wait for a staff member to bring one. I do wish there was a designated spot for used plates, since staff can take a while to clear them, especially outside. Heads up: The kitchen closes weekdays from 2-4 p.m. before reopening and weekends at 2 p.m. (the restaurant closes at 3 p.m. on weekends). They serve doughnuts and other pastries along with some breakfast and lunch items. They also have a nice drink menu. I've been a few times and I'll be a repeat customer as long as I live here. I was so excited to try this place after all the race reviews but it was so disappointing. When we got there, we grabbed a table for our group. The tables on either side of us had not been bussed and were full with dirty plates and left over food. I saw no urgency for anyone to bus it. A guy finally came over and bussed one of the tables so we could use it but did not wipe the dirty/ wet surfaces. We say down for a solid 10 minutes before realizing it was counter service. When we got to the counter, there were two cashiers. One was very helpful and friendly and the other one was short and rude. Guess which one I got. She was annoyed by my questions and instead of asking me directly if I had already placed and order, she turned and asked the other (friendly) cashier if I had already ordered. This seemed rude and idiotic as I was standing there with menu in hand and asking questions about the menu. I finally got my order in and ordered the chicken wraps. Highly disappointing and over priced. The chicken was served in large chicken strips/nuggets and so dry and over cooked , I could hardly cut it in smaller pieces to get them to fit into the lettuce as a wrap. I gave up and tried to eat as a salad and cut everything small but gave up again half way and left the rest. Wasn't even worth taking home the left overs. Pleasantly surprised by this cute, "insta-friendly" spot open 7 days a week! We didn't realize there's a huge indoor dining space and was happy to enjoy a lovely dine-in brunch feast. Line moved quickly. There's a few communal high top tables too if you can't get a conventional table. Service extremely friendly and fast. Tables were turning over fairly quickly and staff were quick to clean in between. Crispy shrimp banh mi didn't disappoint!! Bread was PERFECT. And iykyk that's the distinguishing factor between a good and great banh mi. Don't sleep on the egg banhmi though, I was really taken back by the unique seasoning and flavor of the gently folded, fried egg whites. This is such an innovative, well-run operation! I'm so glad we can have some nice things on the Westbank! Their assortment of grab-and-go baked goods includes fun flavored cookies, cupcakes, sweet and savory crossaints, tarts, cakes, and of course, donuts. I went in the shop to place a king cake order and the process was super efficient; the staff member completed a form for me with my preferences and I paid. (I got the traditional brioche cake and can't wait to try!) Of course I had to grab some items to try, and I got a couple donuts, a spinach croissant, and garlic noodles. DEF give the noodles a try...they're garlicky, umami, and a tinge sweet. I loved the croissant and will be trying another savory flavor next time. I saw avacado bread coming out of the kitchen and it looked amazing...I've got to try the dine-in experience soon.
