As a way to give back during quarantine, my family signed up to foster dogs with DCCR. We had previous fostered with another rescue and felt prepared to work with DCCR. Immediately, we noticed major differences. DCCR goes above and beyond to support foster families by providing food, puppy needs, crates, and even a foster family support group page on FB. They have countless files to walk fosters through every stage and all of the processes. I was seriously so impressed and felt so supported. We ended up falling in love with our foster dog and adopted him. The process was seamless - and we all know NOTHING is seamless during COVID! The rescue volunteers handled every interaction with grace and care. We highly recommend DCCR to any prospective fosters and adopters!!!

Dear DCCR, Thank you for saving me and bringing me here from Texas. You must've known that I would be happy here after surviving Parvo and Mange there... My Mom, Dad and big doggie brother love me so much!!! Thanks to you, I now have a beautiful, happy life. Love, Sierra (fka Violett, adopted 4/11/2020)

I adopted my dog from DCCR in July. He came from Houston testing positive for heart worm. I took that into consideration before officially adopting him, as treatment for heart worm in addition to being so painful for the dog, costs thousands of dollars. When I adopted him, I was informed by Douglas County Canine Rescue that they would cover all treatment until he is heart worm free. I was pleasantly surprised! Thank you to all who adopt puppies! That money helps those of us who adopt adult dogs. DCCR sees the treatment through, so that we can help a dog live a healthier, longer, life. Thank you DCCR for all you do!!

Our last cat died and we finally felt ready to get another. We were set up with the kittens foster mother for a meet and greet. We noticed she had ten or more adult cats OF HER OWN in addition to the kittens from the shelter and two or three she was boarding. In the center of the room were two cat boxes overflowing with feces. Cat pee and poop was all over the carpet AROUND them. The stench was overwhelming. Our first thought was to run from there screaming but we wanted to get this poor kitten out of this situation. We were informed that the cat was finally big enough to fix and that we would be taking it home within a week. two weeks after it was able to be spayed, it wasn't. When I inquired about it and told the shelter I was concerned the kitten would learn to spray if it were around the MULTITUDE of spraying cats for much longer, I was treated with disrespect. LIke "How DARE you bring to our attention this health concern of people and animals." Oh sorry. I thought you would WANT to know that was happening. CRAZY!! Lindsey told us SHE was offended I would even bring it to her attention, and that she was terminating the adoption. Um..my children bonded with this cat. We were sent weekly updates. We care more for ANIMALS than these jokers and WE'RE the a**holes? No. What is funny is when we were leaving the foster house my husband said "This woman is borderline cat hoarding IMO and kept looking at OUR kitten wistfully. She's already keeping the other one. I bet you anything she finds a way to keep OURS." They appear to me, unprofessional. Not to mention, disorganized and RUDE. I'm home all day, we have the means and the room for the kitten, I waited for FOUR WEEKS for this kitten. This entire experience was exhausting and unnecessary!! Wait, wait, wait. Jump through hoops, get the run around, wait. DON'T DARE QUESTION!! My children are heartbroken. As my husband said, we would have had an easier time adopting a Chinese orphan. Just go to Dumb Friends. Edited to respond to Beth: This is my email to Lindsay Hi Lindsey, Dahlia who is fostering with Amber has been 2 lbs for over 2 weeks now. Still no word on when she is getting fixed. Amber said she hasn't heard from you guys. I'd like to bring her home we've been waiting nearly a month for her. She is being fostered with a BUNCH of other cats who are spraying all over the place over there. I would like to get her out of there before she learns any bad habits. Thanks. This is the response I got I do think that considering your concerns about bad habits and the influence of the other cats at our foster's home, it's best if we reconsider this situation as a whole. I have to say I'm a little offended at the suggestion that one of our great fosters, who has opened up her home to kittens in need and to potential adopters that want to meet them, isn't up to par with your standards. I apologize for taking so much of your time and hope that you find a kitten that's the right fit for your family. ***REALLY BETH? Two small full litter boxes for more than ten cats isn't up to ANYONE'S STANDARDS if they have STANDARDS. But your commitment to defend this rudeness is admirable. Especially considering this is the number one reason cats are given up for adoption. Way to address a legitimate concern and turn away a family for a needy cat. STELLAR business practices. I feel sorry for the cats your leaving in these filthy conditions. **Now I am getting private messages from people who work for the Shelter claiming to be my neighbor and know where I live. People who foster for them and have NOTHING to do with my case. Why would they have that info? I will be reporting them to YELP and all proper authorities. This place is UNREAL.

You offer vaccine appointments... but they only exist as clinics that rotate to various locations,…read morerather than having a dedicated location to provide such services outside of a clinic. You then ask us to create an account and fill out personal and pet info for this vaccine clinic. Then we have to make an appointment and wait for someone on your staff to manually update the appointment and approve us, to then only send out an email that talks about all of the clinics happening....NOT related to our appointment and share all the other locations NOT related to our appointment. Then we find out that our appointment that YOU approved is not even an appointment at all, and it's a First Come, First Served run of show where you then state we should expect to wait 60-90 minutes to get some shots. I'm a huge animal advocate, but your approach to handling this is completely stupid and a waste of our time. Here's a crazy idea... how about you offer those clinics to those who want to show up and stand in line with their pets for 60-90 minutes, and maybe also have a dedicated location for those who book actual appointments to get vaccines.

YAY! I get to finally write a review on 4P4L!!…read more We found 4P4L due to a Petfinder search back in 2021. The dog we initially adopted wasn't good with our cats even though he was fine in his foster home with the resident cat. 4P4L understood and we were able to return him. They had asked me to write an updated bio for him so that potential adopters would get a better understanding of his demeanor. He was such a sweet dog but my cats weren't his thing, which wasn't his fault in the slightest. I wrote the bio and he got adopted. I was then asked to volunteer and become a foster, so we started fostering. A 3 day sleepover for a foster pup is how we started and since 2021, we have fostered over 100 dogs and volunteer at adoption events. While it is so tempting to adopt all our fosters, we know we're just helping them adjust to home life. There have been a few that we invoked the 6 month rule: if we have the pup for 6 months, we would adopt him/her because at 6 months, you're a part of our pack. Last month, there was a need to foster these 2 rottie pups because it was time for them to separate from their momma and momma needed a break. Rotties are one of our preferred breeds! Well, we invoked the 6 DAY rule knowing that the pups would be adopted within the week. So that's it! That's how we got our Saoirse! Even if you cannot adopt, please think about volunteering with us or becoming a foster! A little weekend break from the kennel is what all the dogs need and you may just invoke your own 6 day rule!!

It appears this rescue is able to pick and choose their posted reviews! Really Yelp? What have you turned into if we cannot post our TRUTHFUL experiences here? This upsetting and honestly, it's CENSORSHIP! Let me try again and see if yelp decides to censor me again. We adopted a cockapoo here. My mother paid $480 for our girl. We arrived and she comes out to us, UNBATHED, UNGROOMED and she SMELLED awful. She had diarrhea all over her rear end and she was SO terrified, she was shaking and pooped in the girls arms as she was carrying her. It was OBVIOUS that not ONE person had worked with her, bathed her or groomed her since she arrived at this facility! Just put her up on line and waited for someone to adopt her. Clearly NOT in it for the welfare of these animals. Just the money. Never an apology or explanation for this. No follow up phone call to see how she was adjusting. NOTHING. Based on everything here, we DO NOT RECOMMEND this rescue. They are SHAMEFUL!
