Applied to adopt a dog, including the part of my lease that covers pets. They went back and forth with me SEVEN times demanding slightly more specific things ("send us the entire lease," "send us a letter from your landlord," "send us a different letter.") When I sent over the signed letter from my landlord with my approval to adopt a dog as an ESA, they then demanded a dr's note on top of it. It is illegal to demand doctor's notes unless the pet owner is requesting special accomodations (basically only landlords and airlines can demand this). They told me they weren't willing to let me adopt unless I sent them a doctor's note with privacy protected personal information, or got a second letter from my landlord saying i was allowed to adopt a non-ESA pet. I had already provided proof from the landlord I was allowed to adopt a dog - asking for extra proof they wouldn't ask a non-disabled adopter for because I had a disability allowing for an ESA is illegal. Both unpleasant and discriminates against people with disabilities. Even before the issues around the disabilities came up, there was so much back and forth asking for more and more and more things (I applied at around 10 shelters and no other shelter needed more than just the screenshot of the lease with the animal details). I can not say enough about DCCR. Yes, they are stringent about approving applications but isn't that a good thing? It is a super weird time in our world right now and there is a crazy amount of people wanting to adopt. We were told by another organization that the competition is tough... it's awesome that so many people want to care for deserving animals but it also makes things a little harder. We adopted a puppy, yesterday, and they were nothing but professional. We had great communication and even have established lifelines if anything comes up. Our liaison was really helpful and friendly. We have even been in touch with the foster family giving them updates, she was very well cared for and loved before we got her. She is so snuggly and adorable! You can tell that DCCR genuinely cares for the pets they rescue and we are so thankful for that! Here's a great idea: take a photo of your driver's license and send it out online to total strangers! I understand that they want to weed out abusive people. But they demand that you send a photo of your driver's license in your adoption application, something I have never seen any other rescue org ever demand--for good reason! Um, hello? Sending a picture of your personal I.D. over the internet is a terrible idea. Do you want to have your identity stolen? Not only that, but I tried several times to find out what they were doing with my personal information. Who has access to a picture of my I.D.? What security procedures do they have in place? How long will they keep my I.D. in their records? Where is it stored? Why do you want an actual photo? This is a mostly volunteer organization--can anyone who joins just have access to a picture of my personal I.D.? No response to any of my questions. They acted like I was criminal for even daring to ask. Excuse me? You want me to send a photo of my I.D. and then treat me like a bad person for daring to ask why and what you're doing with it? Wow, this takes control freaks and scammers to a whole new level. Like many others on here, if I could give negative stars I would!! Do not, repeat do not foster or adopt from this rescue. There are numerous others in Denver and Colorado Springs that do not practice these shady business practices. How do you foster a dog for MONTHS through Douglas County Canine Rescue and never get told said dog is heart worm positive???? I would never foster or adopt through this organization ever again as it's been a cluster. From the moment I was handed this dog to foster she was sick with a horrible UTI and dropped blood and pee in my house for over two weeks. I was sent to Security to pick up some old antibiotics off a stranger's porch, then drove to Denver for their vet, only to end up having to pay out of pocket and take her to my vet for help. And now this?? It's hard in my heart to slam a rescue that is finding homes for dogs. But your fosters are what keeps this thing going and this rescue is horrible at supporting their fosters. And to knowingly have a dog assigned to your rescue that is heart worm positive for MONTHS (paperwork shows test result May 30, 2019!) and never saying anything to us is neglect and borders on animal abuse. Do not, under any circumstance, adopt a pet from this organization. You've been warned. If I could give negative stars, I would. We adopted a puppy from one of their events on Saturday September 7th in Colorado Springs. The health records indicated she had some medical issues previously but they were already treated. The lady who stated she was the puppy's foster claimed all was well with her, had been spayed a couple weeks prior, was current on all boosters, but she wasn't 100% sure the puppy had her rabies shot yet (weird that she's under your care for all of this and you don't know if something was done?) By the way, the Rabies paperwork that I received was half filled out. That's always comforting. So I also can't tell if she actually did, or didn't, receive one. Around Sunday evening the puppy began vomiting 2-3 times per hour. We immediately removed her food (which was a 100% cold switch to what we're feeding her now, as this organization didn't provide any of her previous food so we could do a transition). I called our vet first thing Monday morning (September 9th) and described the issue. The vet was concerned enough that she wanted to see her on an emergency basis, meaning right now. During the examination, the vet was very concerned at how sick (and dehydrated) this puppy actually is. She's keeping her for observation for at least the day, if not overnight, for extreme dehydration, while trying to rule out parvo, worms, an obstruction, another intestinal issue, or something else. Tests so far have included fecal, barium x-rays, IV fluids, antibiotics, sedative (she's freaked out about being in a crate), and who knows what else will be needed today. The vet is hoping she can come home today, depending on how she responds to treatment. We're upwards of $400 in bills at the moment, and counting. To top it off, the vet states this puppy is missing a set of boosters, along with the rabies. Wait, what?? We were informed she was up to date on ALL vaccines (with the question of rabies still outstanding). Volunteers were chipping dogs onsite without any prepping of the skin (no alcohol, etc), and if a chip wasn't being read by their scanners, instead of trying to figure out why, we watched them just chip the dog again (again without any prepping). They had dogs there with aggression issues. They even had a sign on one cage not to put your fingers inside. Why, is it an alligator? If you have a dog that hasn't been socialized properly, you should not be offering it up for sale until it has been. What kind of place is this organization? Is there any oversight done at all? Don't worry - the first 2 contract agreements you sign for are about how it's the buyer's responsibility for anything that happens to the animal after you take ownership of it (no 7-day guarantee like other places have), and that you are assuming ownership of the animal "as is". So you know, once you leave there, they could care less what happens (face palm). Oh sure, they give you a 30-day pet insurance option, but it has a $250 deductible with only $1,000 of coverage. We're most likely going to bypass that by the time we're able to bring her home from the vet. We're very glad we removed this puppy from this hellacious environment, regardless of what she's going through now. At least she's in good hands now. read more

Immediately, we noticed major differences. DCCR goes above and beyond to support foster families by providing food, puppy needs, crates, and even a foster family support group page on FB. They have countless files to walk fosters through every stage and all of the processes. I was seriously so impressed and felt so supported. ADOPTERS BEWARE! Please do your research on rescues before adopting from Douglas County Canine Rescue My family and I adopted a puppy from this event 2 weeks ago (June 26th). While at the event, we pointed out the puppy had a runny nose and eye boogers. The rescue owners daughter told us it was most likely just because it was windy and allergies and that she had all her shots. We went ahead and adopted the puppy. 4 days later on July 1st, we had to rush our new family member to the animal hospital. She was diagnosed with pneumonia. I immediately reached out to the rescue. A few days later, the test results came in and we found out she had distemper, canine coronavirus, and mycroplasma. We were told by the ER Dr and our personal vet that the runny nose and eye boogers are one of the first signs of distemper. Which means that the puppy contracted it prior to us adopting her. I again reached out to the rescue. Per the adoption contract, it clearly states that the rescue will be responsible for any illnesses prior to adoption. Their only response was for us to surrender her back to them for a refund. She is now apart of our family and we love her and she is my 5 year olds best friend. There is no way we are surrendering her back to live the rest of her life in a shelter or foster. Unfortunately today July 13th, less than 2.5 weeks after adoption, our beautiful baby has crossed the rainbow bridge. She was a fighter and recovered from the pneumonia and mycroplasma and survived the distemper. Due to the distemper she began having seizures and sadly succumbed to the seizures. We are heartbroken and want to share our story to spread awareness that this rescue could careless. One of our main reasons for reaching out to the rescue is to make sure that all the other adopters that adopted from the event our baby was at were notified. Distemper is extremely contagious and deadly especially to puppies. The rescue assured us that they would be contacting all the other adopters to make notification and that has yet to happen. As I know others that adopted from the same event and they have not received a call or email at this time. So please do your research and save your family from the same heartbreak and financial situation that DCCR has put us in. read more

We adopted a puppy from DCCR and everything went well. I thought it was strange paying $1500.00 for a puppy. We took her to the vet one week after getting her and found out she had Giardia. She has constant diarrhea and has been to doctor several times. Contacted DCCR and they basically said she had to have gotten Giardia while with us. We also found in paper work she was from a breeder in Mexico. They get sick puppies from breeders and up price and sell them. read more

I adopted my dog from DCCR in July. He came from Houston testing positive for heart worm. I took that into consideration before officially adopting him, as treatment for heart worm in addition to being so painful for the dog, costs thousands of dollars. Fostered a dog that became a foster fail through DCCR. Most everyone I worked with through the foster was absolutely wonderful, except the main woman that runs it. At an adoption event I went to even another rescue volunteer made a comment about hoping to "catch her on a good day", she really just has poor bedside manner for running a rescue that cannot function without volunteers. It was the adoption event that upset me, it was a great place for puppies but I would never take another adult dog to it again, so traumatic sitting in a crate with a ton of strange people walking around you and eyeballing. A crate is no way to see an adult dog's personality. Our foster freaked out and at that point I knew I had to adopt her. I say it was a great place for puppies but not all, some were alone in crates shivering with fear. Not to mention the amount of dogs returned after the adoption event, you would think adoptions would be a little more extensive in ensuring a dog is a good fit. On another occasion I reached out and asked for a vet appointment and I was responded to 4 days later with an appointment in the middle of the week (we work full time) and in Lakewood, for Douglas County it seems a little foolish to have all their vets in Lakewood. They are constantly looking for fosters, which is great but they truly do bring in wayyyy more dogs than they can handle. That was obvious with response time and the amount of times fosters backed out of fostering dogs and they were searching for a new foster. We got really lucky with our foster fail who is now permanent family that we totally love. However, it was a rocky experience to get there. After reading other's reviews and some complaints about puppy mill auctions in the past I can say I think this rescue could do better. At the same time my hands are tied as we ended up with a wonderful baby through DCCR, and I am thankful they bring dogs out of kill shelters. I like to give the benefit of the doubt in most situations but felt I needed to leave an honest review. Heartbreaking. We saw a post for a particular dog. He was described as very large, active, and needed a particular environment. Our application was approved in 36 hours, and then we waited. After concern that we may have missed a contact, it turned out we were expected to attend a pet expo and there was no guarantee he'd even be there. We live more than 2 hours away. I am giving only 1star because the email approving our application was very misleading and the representative we emailed back and forth with to clarify the process was both defensive and rude. If you can adopt a dog from this organization safely, please do so, for the sake of the animal. But use caution with the staff. It felt like a money making mill to us. read more

I appreciate anyone who wants to help innocent animals. But at an adoption event today this organization remained in disarray. Everyone was a volunteer, I believe, but the lack of professional behavior by the representatives of DCCR was obvious. The local business who donated their space, employees and time so DCCR had an adoption event location is to be commended for their efforts over the past three weekends, which resulted in over 100 adoptions. But whomever is in charge at DCCR needs to remember all the families who are doing the hard work of fostering pups in preparation of a hoped for forever home. It behooves you to put your best foot forward and have your volunteers behave appropriately also. Your mission will suffer more each time you forget this. If you burn bridges with those who are trying to help you in your endeavor, do not be surprised when they decide to support another who truly expresses appreciation for those efforts. My experience with DCCR has been excellent. We adopted a year and a half old female doberman who was under weight and who was Heart Worm positive. DCCR covered the costs of her heart work treatments which I understand are not cheap. After 6 months of treatment my dobie is Heart Worm negative. DCCR came to my home and helped assist on introducing her to my male doberman. They helped me understand how to slowly introduce the two of them. So I applied to adopt a small rescue dog from the Douglas County Canine Rescue and I let them know my roommate has 2 ESA cats. I sent them over my apartment's animal addendum that is blank because my roommate's cats do not count under the pet limit. The addendum itself states that we can have 2 pets, but I talked to my apartment complex and they clarified that the ESA cats do not count towards the pet limit under the Fair Housing Act but rather as occupants. This was the rescue's response: "Our decision stands that you are at your limit. No one needs 2 ESA cats for one person." I understand that they may think that means my apartment can only handle 2 pets but they never did a home visit nor video chat. Our 2-bedroom apartment is big, has dog parks and walking paths throughout the complex and outside my door, a patio, and the roommate before me had a small dog with my roommate's 2 cats and they got along fine with ample space. In no way does this give anyone the right to say "no one needs 2 ESA cats for one person," especially when they are not my cats and they do not know my roommate nor her circumstance. This shelter discriminates against ESA and I would not recommend this adoption experience to anyone. read more

I fostered 2 different groups of puppies for Dccr this year and was dismayed by the rudeness of the owner and neither group was wormed; each group was in my care for a month. They didn't provide cleaning supplies(which is a lot with puppies), bathing, grooming, treats or toys, collar or harness for mama dog; that was up to the foster to provide if wanted. So when they tell you every is provided, it is absolutely not true. They really don't care about the dogs, just how fast they can turn over their stock for the $$! Fostering is very rewarding in the right environment, please do your homework and go with a more reputable rescue! read more

ZERO STARS. This is an extremely concerning company. They are unauthentic, rude and crass, unprofessional, & cruel group of people. My home fostered "Payton" the "1-year" old female boxer for two weeks, after the first day of having her we felt she found her fur ever home. But, the whole lead up was beyond bizarre and DISTURBING. We were told to meet the dogs behind a back of a shopping mall, where there were multiple puppies and full sized dogs crammed in a very small van in over 80 degrees! We were immediately concerned because no one checked our ID and simply just put her in the car. She looked malnourished, dehydrated, abused (physical markings on her body), and vaginal and nipples areas were both inflamed which is a direct sign she just had puppies. We had multiple people tell us that she looked over one year old.. Also - we were unaware she JUST had a litter! WE WERE NOT GIVEN ANY PAPER WORK AT THE PICKUP. Our dog, who we now call Eileen, fit perfectly in her home - just after 10 days she looked like she gained some weight and she was playing and jumping around like she finally started feeling healthy, safe and loved again. These people bombarded us, after verbally promising her adoption to us, harassing us with condescending rude text messages and even SHOWED UP TO OUR HOME. On top of that, they threatened us many times to sue us for over $3,000. They came tonight and ripped her from our home as she struggled to stay with me. I am a young single professional in my early 20s, and live with two amazing mid 20s female nurses. We just wanted to love her back to health. THIS WAS NOT MORAL, ETHICAL & JUST PLAIN SCREWED UP. DO NOT work with this organization! Stay away! We fostered 5 6-week old puppies and ended up adopting one of them summer of 2021. Since then they are always texting to see if we will foster more dogs for them. Last weekend I met an extremely sweet and loving pup who was walking by my store. She crawled into my lap and started loving on me. My heart melted and that was it. That pup picked me. After talking to the foster parents I found out she was being fostered through this group. The foster parents were aware of the bond and we started another application for the pup. Other people in the organization were also aware of the quick bond I had with this dog. My mother's application wasn't good enough - I also had to submit an application. They were in contact with my Mom during the last week regarding the applications. They adopted the dog right out from under us today at an event. My mom went to potentially meet the dog and it was being adopted right as she pulled up. Their reasoning was our application wasn't pre-approved YET they want us to always foster for them. They have consistently ask us to foster for them within the last year - but our application's weren't pre-approved. This organization is dishonest and unethical. They are a joke. There are much better rescues to support and help. Don't waste your time, effort, disappointment and inevitable heartbreak. read more

Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness This rescue felt more like a puppy flipping service. Taking on way too many dogs than they can handle, putting them in boarding when they can't find fosters (because there's just not enough) and adopting out at pet expos..it's all very weird operation. I filled out an application one night to adopt 1 dog and got a text that same night about a 911 situation with a mama and 9 puppies...I have never had any experience with puppies before and probably something they should have asked before fostering them out to me, but I figured it out. They claim they pay for everything, but while I had them I had to buy tarps, wood pellets, a bin, XXL pee pads, nail clippers, milk replacement, fish oil and even food...I drove 30 minutes the first time to pick up puppy food and all that was there was adult food..the second time, the foster at the pickup location would not respond to me about a time/if I would actually get the correct food this time. I had them for almost a month before receiving covid. If anyone has had the worst of symptoms with covid, you can only imagine how hard it was the first week I felt like death while taking care of 10 dogs. I was the one who found a new foster, Rebecca didn't even wish me well. I set the new foster up with literally everything I bought and even threw in toys/treats for them. Move forward a few weeks, I'm covid free but back to working full time in our office. I get a text saying the new foster I found was in the hospital. I told Rebecca that was I back to working full time (not a home). Her response, "so you can't foster them for her?" When I explained that it's not in the best interest for 10 dogs who have no one to let them in/out while I'm gone 10 hours a day and how this was super unexpected, I just couldn't help, I received no response and got deleted from the group. This rescue . . . What can I say. They are made up amazing selfless people who pull dogs minutes before they are supposed to be put to sleep. I foster with them and the three dogs I have had with them are more well behaved then any dog I've ever had. Kind, sweet, lovely little fur babies who just want to loved and shown affection. It's so hard not to keep every single dog I foster because, I think they know you are rescuing them. They love you even more. As long as I remain in this state, I will always stay committed to this recuse because I have scene the wonderful dogs they rescue and scene first hand how much the dogs love you for it. I adopted my first dog thru DCCR two years ago. I was a foster fail. My pup pictured in this post is Bronco. He came to Colorado from Texas with his siblings, there were four of them and they had distemper. They were going to be put down in Texas at just 5 months old but DCCR pulled them off euthanasia list knowing that dogs have a very small chance of surviving distemper! Mind you, they have to pay for EVERY single dog they save from anywhere... they don't go capture innocent dogs so they can make a profit, you people who say that are so clueless, it literally makes me sick that you are giving negative feedback without knowing how many dogs they have saved and how expensive it is!!! Anyways... Bronco's 3 sisters passed away but he survived! The rescue payed for months of his medicine, we had to pull all his teeth because they were rotten due to medical treatment, also covered by the rescue. These are costs in addition to being fixed, up to date on shots, microchipped, transported from Texas... add that up and please get back to me if you think this was under $375. If people can't afford the adoption fee, they SHOULD NOT have dogs in the first place!!! Hello! How do you guys think dogs end up in bad situations?! Because people can't afford them! I ended up adopting Bronco because i fell in love with him. He is the most grateful dog ever (I have three). Without DCCR... he would be dead! I am forever thankful for him and for the rescue. I have been fostering since then. I have had many litters of puppies with parvo that rescue took on to save! SAVE, NOT PROFIT FROM! Parvo treatment alone is over $300 per dog!!!! I literally cannot believe there are people who try to shame this rescue and prevent them from saving dogs! SHAME ON YOU!!! Also, pull up dumb friends league taxes and see how much money they make from adopting out dogs! DCCR is 100% foster based, overhead costs are higher I'm sure! I wish I'd of looked here before adopting from here. There are so many negative reviews - the only reason I am adding is so that you know in 2023 they are still doing this. ...They have not cleaned up their act. My story: They bought my puppy from a puppy broker in Iowa who has the same address as a breeder. The rescue told me the only reason a breeder gives up these pups is because they get too old to sell and have another litter on the way, and the breeder will euthanize the pups. When I called the broker/ breeder they insisted they never would do this. ever. So the only reason I can now conclude: when the dog was born the breeder knew he wouldn't make it to a year old (which he did not). I spent $1,300 to purchase the dog from the rescue and thousands more to try and save him. My family is heartbroken. I don't understand how a 'humane' 'rescue' could do this to people...they looked my 10 year old son in the eye and let this happen. If you look up on the internet there is a channel four news article where they get busted buying dogs from mill auctions and reselling ...at a higher price in 2017. They're still doing this. I do not recommend this place to anyone. In fact, I highly urge you to go elsewhere. We adopted our sweet pup from DCCR. We were told when we paid for her at the Tractor Supply in Monument, they did not have her records and I could either pick them up in Castle Rock or they could mail them. CR is a 50 minute drive so we opted to have them mailed. We were told to take her to one of their vets to get her distemper and rabies if we wanted it to be free. I called for 2-3x a day for 7 days trying to get a hold of Jamie or Rebecca. Everytime it went straight to voicemail and non of my calls were ever returned. My husband had to drive back up to monument just to speak to someone. They told him "it's been a fiasco lately trying to find fosters." While I understand their desire to help and place pets in homes, they are running a business. It is not too much to ask for a returned phone call. It's completely unprofessional not to have the files and records with you during an adoption event. They also told us the dog was fully potty trained, which was a lie. They told us she was a lab terrier mix but Red Rocks Vet Clinic said DCCR told them she was a pit bull mix. The records from her shelter in Texas say she's a Lab/Boxer mix. They told us she had been socializes and was good with people and dogs. Totally not the case. We are pleased to have been able to bring our puppy home, we wouldn't trade her for the world; however, be careful and except to never get a phone call back when working with DCCR. We adopted a puppy at the Pet expo in Colorado Springs. The puppy has Parvo and we can't contact the rescue. Their mailbox is full. So far we are out $1300.00 dollars in vet bills. There was a free 30 day pet insurance policy, with a $500 max per occurrence limit / and a $50 copay. At this time we have no good contact phone #. This is a hard pass as a place to adopt a pet. read more

My family adopted my dog from Douglas County Canine Rescue in September and he has been such an amazing part of our family. We fostered for DCCR when COVID-19 was at it's peak and loved every minute of it. This rescue really cares about bringing dogs to safety and finding them good homes. The foster system is amazing because when it comes time for the dog to get adopted, they have already been socialized, have some training under their belt, and their personality is known to find the perfect match. I just adopted my own puppy last week through DCCR and she's been nothing short of perfect! The volunteers work so hard to find potential adopters the perfect match for their family. I fostered with Douglas County canine rescue a.k.a. DCCR starting in March. We fostered So we could get to know the The dogs before we made a forever commitment. The first time we fostered was absolute gem he wasn't meant for our family but I'm so grateful for the family they found. I will admit that I was a little apprehensive about bringing strange dogs in my home with two children. But DCCR was very good about making sure that they would not place the wrong type of dog in your home. They made sure that the dogs temperament would match my home for the dogs had been tested with children. The second dog I fostered was the one I actually adopted. He was a stray that was brought up from Texas. At one point he had mange and was underweight but DCCR are provided food, crate and medical care For him until he was adopted by me 3 weeks later . I do want to add he was mange negative but his fur had not fully grown back whenever he came into my house. DCCR was a wonderful organization to work with. They were responsive reasonably priced for adoption fees and very thorough making sure that their dogs are going to the best home possible. I am grateful for the experience of fostering to adopt and I recommend it to anybody that is looking to bring a furry animal into their home. It's a great way to see their temperament and to see how they getting along in your home. DCCR Was recommended to me by a friend and I recommend them to any friends that are looking for a four legged friend! We adopted a sweet girl from this rescue in Dec 2020. Unfortunately we need to rehome her. In the DCCR contract is says that we can only relinquish to them. It's been months since we notified the rescue of the need to relinquish. They have been unresponsive. We have safety concerns with our other dog and need to get this puppy rehomed asap. Well no stars would be a great start! We adopted a German Sheppard a few weeks ago. When we went to pick up our dog we were informed after signing all the paperwork and making our payment that our dog had heartworms. The person who fostering the dog didn't even know. The foster family said our dog had a limp because another dog in her care had bitten our new dog. It was apparent when we took the dog home that it was more than scratch. She could barely walk or stand. We took her to Banfield where she was x-rayed and the x-rays showed she had a broken foot. Who knows how long this terrible injury was left untreated by DCCR. Between my wife and I we have called at least 5 times, with no call back from anyone at DCCR. We also misplaced one of the pills for heartworms, and yet we still are unable to get anyone to return our calls. I guess making well over 1 million dollars selling sick and injured dogs in just a few years has tainted these folks and not for the good of the supposedly rescued dogs. My next call will be to an investigative reporter to find out what's really going on and where all the money is going for this supposed non-profit. read more

I have fostered 30 dogs from DCCR since November 2019. It has been such an amazing and rewarding experience! Its so amazing to see the dogs go from unsure and scared to blossom with love and attention in foster care. Foster dogs seem to know that you helped them and give you extra love and attention. Its also rewarding to see them go to wonderful new homes. The owner and staff have always been supportive and responsive to any question or issues. They provide everything you need to care for them. They have saved over 5000 dogs from kill shelters out of state. I have also adopted one of my fosters and I am so thankful for him, he is such a special pup! read more

We have been searching for our puppy to add to our family, and Douglas County Canine came to our rescue! They have an amazing group of staff and volunteers that are ready to help and get information for a good fit for our family. Their adoption events include many different breeds of dogs and puppies in order to make the best decision for our family. The fosters are incredible and informative and the level in which they screen for fosters and adoptions was professional and made me feel like we were making the the decision of commitment for our new addition. I really appreciated their first come first serve policy which allowed us to interact with other potential owners and it gave it a sense of community. I loved the paperwork organization in a folder so that we can bring Luna to the doctor and be aware of her history. Thanks again for our new baby! read more

Do NOT Foster with this rescue, by all means adopt - the dogs need it. This basically says the same things other reviewers have posted but here is my view: 1. They repeatedly state that fostering is of "no cost to you" which is not true at all. They provide a crate/pen, food and pee pads, most of the time, but so often was I unable to get food and pee pads for the puppies I fostered that I bought them myself - they will NOT reimburse you for this. They will not pay for cleaning supplies that you will inevitably need, or the gas/milage on your car to get back and forth from their office in Castle Rock or their vets in Lakewood or CO Springs. On spay/neuter day, I was driving 200 miles total - I did that for 3 sets of puppies. Sure $70 in gas isn't that big of a deal, but you need to be prepared for that. It is also a huge investment of your time, travelling to meet & greets, events when they have them, to the office for vaccines, and to the vet for spay/neuter or treatments. 2. The owner, Rebecca, is the only one allowed to make any decisions for the dogs, for anything. Foster placement, vet care, medications, behavior issues, etc. She is slow to respond and often times very rude, as previous reviews have covered. It is clear she really dislikes humans, but her concern for the dogs is also nonexistent. She has 2 goals in running this rescue IMO, one to spend as little money as possible and two to pull as many dogs from TX or NM as possible, regardless of if they have a place to go or not. She will ignore and not take care of the dogs currently in her rescue but just keep pulling more from the shelter. Either she truly does not care or is blinded by her mission and both the dogs and fosters in her rescue suffer for it. 3. You are left unsupported as a foster. There is a FB group where you will get very few helpful responses from other fosters and there are 3 phone numbers you can text. But more often than not your messages will go ignored, replied to rudely or you will be guilt tripped by the rescue. Overall, I felt used and abused by the rescue when I just really wanted to help save dogs. I showed up and did everything they asked but I still felt terrible the whole time. 4. I have fostered a total of 17 puppies over 6 months and they do not get adopted as fast as you would think. Getting into fostering the rescue says to expect at least 2 weeks but the fastest that I had all puppies from a group adopted was one month and the longest was 3 months. Can you fathom how much poop multiple 6/7/8/9 week old puppies make?! I assumed that going into this but what I didn't expect was the lack of communication, lack of marketing, competition inside the rescue over which puppies need to be "pushed" onto adopters first. Overall, just how slow and unresponsive the folks at the rescue can be. 5. This last bullet is personal to my story. I decided to stop fostering for this rescue. I still had 2 puppies left from a litter of 10 (and I adopted 1 from that litter too). Per the agreement I signed, the rescue has 1 week to move dogs after you notify them. They IGNORED me for 10 days. No responses to any of my messages. I finally had to tell them that I would be forced to take these 2 puppies to a shelter if they didn't answer me and find another foster for them. The first thing they did was block me from both the foster and adopter FB groups, preventing me from getting more food or pee pads to support them anyway. They then found me "another foster" who could take them in 3 days. This other foster was also struggling with multiple foster dogs in her home but her heart was too big to say no. The bottom line is that the rescue will basically ghost you as soon as they place a dog into your care, until they need you to take more. Dogs are left without attention, affection, vet care and sometimes food. read more

I adopted a puppy from DCCR last year and was not given his paperwork at the time. He could not walk the next day, and we took him immediately to the vet. After contacting the rescue, I was given the runaround and the foster mom said "well I always carried him around so I didn't know he couldn't walk". Fast forward a year and we found out that my dog has Brucella, and has had it this entire time. My vet is recommending euthanasia, as this is contagious to humans. Brucella is common in puppies from Texas, and very easy and cheap to test for. When I contacted the rescue, I never heard back. DO NOT adopt from them! read more

Can not warn anybody enough. Please do not donate money to this "rescue". Do your research and reference the CBS4 news article on how they dump all of their money into puppy mills and turn around to sell the puppies. Give money to humane organizations instead such as Dumb Friends League. The owner of DCCR is very un-truthful about the condition of the dogs and will dismiss any health concerns. She is very rude, and unprofessional. We fostered a dog through DCCR who we were told was 1 year old and recently spayed, otherwise perfectly healthy. We went to pick up the dog and were given a dog from a van crammed full of dogs, they did not check ID, or contact us to check up on the dog for 10+ days. The dog was very sweet and immediately attached to us, as we did to her. However, she looked as if she just had recently given birth and was still bleeding . We notified the owner Rebecca, who dismissed all of our concerns. We were told we would be first priority to adopt this dog but then all of the sudden they were requesting to come take her back with no explanation. We explained we were concerned for her health and would like to take her to the vet- then multiple representatives began threatening us, sent people to our house with no explanation, and ultimately removed the dog from a home she was comfortable and happy in. We know this seems too horrible to be true-but it is. We met all of the adoption requirements, gave the dog a loving home, and offered to pay adoption AND veterinary fees and begged to keep her in the home that she loved- but a representative came to our house late at night and forcefully removed the dog by picking her up, and as the dog squirmed and kicked to get away from her, was unfortunately was dropped on her head and dragged out of the house. It was very sickening to witness. We loved this dog and took excellent care of her as she became part of our family. From our encounter and many other reviews this organization seems to not have these animals best interest at heart. They have ongoing and numerous reports to animal control, SPCA and PACFA.
