Upon arrival, you're greeted by someone to direct you to parking. The guy was nice and said it was perfect weather to go peach picking. The parking lot was dirt and small but was able to accommodate all the cars there. The employees were nice and informative. They have two different types of peaches. Red Havens are sweet and Reliance are on the tarter side. It's a smaller farm but there were plenty of trees full of ripe peaches. The peaches were very fragile so it's important to be selective on which ones you pull off the branch. It's $3 per pound and we got a boxful for around $22. We also got a huge zucchini for only .50! I love the idea of farm to table and enjoy supporting local businesses which made Douglas Farms a perfect pit stop while driving through Sauvie Island. read more

Red Haven peaches! When they are in season, this is where you can pick your own. They are so delicious! Throughout the seasons there are other fruits and berries available for u-pick so check their website often so you don't miss a harvest. For example, they have blackberries, Marionberries, raspberries, nectarines, peaches, several varieties of apples (honey crisp, McIntosh, Golden delicious etc) and lots of pears. Rows and rows! Each labeled with the variety. When you enter Douglas Farm from the main road, the drive is gravel and you then enter a shady area where you park. To the left is their farmers market area with pre-picked seasonal produce. Depending on the month you are there, you can buy fresh beans eggplant, beats, corn, peppers, apples, pears, gourds, just to name a few! Past the stand are the rows and rows of the orchards and to get out to the u-pick area, they transport you in small buses. It's so beautiful and peaceful in the orchards. Unlike other farms on the island, I didn't see any area where you can sit and picnic. Prices are fantastic! If you are buying in bulk to make jams, pies, crisps and such, a stop at Douglas Farms a few times throughout the season is a must. read more

Came here because boyfriend found this place to "pick something", and we ended up with tons of fruit + a mini adventure! We came here on 9/3, in a quiet weekday afternoon. Boyfriend wanted to come to Sauvie island for some U-pick action, so we came. It took a bit to drive thru the dusty rocky entrance, then you entered this parking circle surrounded by trees. Which was quite nice. We walked to the stand, asking what's available for picking. The girl attending the stand said most of the farm was closed. BUT if we wantED, they could drive us to pick some pears in a buggy. It was a hot day, and the girls looked reluctant to take us out. So I told my boyfriend lets go somewhere else. "No i want to ride the buggy!", he said to me. To my surprised, one of the girls came back to picked us up in a buggy! It was a bit of a drive to the pear trees, but it was worth it. The trees were full of beautiful pears. Conveniently, there were some fresh red apples for picking as well. From the pear point, we were picked up by "the uncle" in an air conditioned vehicle. He asked if we wanted some peaches. Just when I was thinking "didn't we passed the season already?", my boyfriend shouted out "Yeahhhhhh!". The the bus took a 180 degree turn to the peach trees. Again, to my surprise, we were surrounded by plenty of peaches! Most of them did start to turn brown, but we managed to pick about 20 or so. When we returned to the bus, uncle was no where insight. Just when I thought we got abandoned, he emerged from the trees with arm full of peaches, picked just for us! Overall, we got a good mixture of crunchy red apples, sweet hard pears and delicious late peaches, plus 3 sweet corns grabbed from the stand for about 26 bucks. I wouldn't say they have the most chatty, friendly staff. However, I was impress with the price, fruit variety and generosity of the staff. So yes I'd definitely come back again. Their fruits are always sweet and tasty. Their vegetables are always the best. I usually get their tomatoes, corn, and green peppers. If you are into the spicy peppers you will find a great selection. First time I picked peaches and it took less than 10 minutes to get the box full and even ended up getting more boxes to fill. I came here to go apple picking with my family and it was a wonderful experience! You have to drive down a gravel road to get to the farm and once you pull up, they have a decent amount of parking available. You'll be greeted with a small farmers market on your left with produce, boxes and wagons. Due to liability, you have to be bused to the apple trees and can't walk. The bus seats 14 people so on a crowded day, it may be a little slow. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the crowds weren't too big. We could only pick two kinds of apples since the other kinds were either not in season or not ripe yet. However, we did come home with about 18 pounds of apples which only cost us about $24! You definitely get your money's worth! We also ended up buying 2 squashes that were huge from the market which were only $2 ($1 each). I did hear that the apple pickings are slim or no longer later in the day towards 2pm so I suggest going earlier in the morning! read more

The farm is small but cute. Parking was fine. The problem was when my little girl and I were walking back down the short dirt road back to the farm after picking apples. I asked the guy driving the tractor if it was okay for us to walk vs riding the hay wagon bc it was a nice day. The guy said it was fine. On the way back though, he stopped the tractor next to us and aggressively ordered us to get in the wagon. At this point, we could see the farm stand and were maybe a 3-min walk away. I asked why and he literally ordered us to "GET IN THE WAGON." I didn't want to make a scene so we got in. But to have someone be so aggressive and intimidating was a total shock. I would never, ever go back to this farm again and would warn women to be careful. read more

Lovely morning at Douglas Farm. Easy shaded parking, COVID protocols in place, check in and check out a breeze, contactless payment. The peach trees loaded with fruit and fun to pick your own. All of the staff encountered friendly and accommodating. We didn't pick blackberries though bought some at the little market stand at checkout. They are absolutely delicious. Great place to do u pick! We booked online and arrived a little early. Got to relax a little in the shady, peaceful entry area. Megan was incredibly helpful and let us in and gave us the lowdown on what to pick and what to look for. Picked some amazing black berries and a few aubergines. Snagged some of the pre picked pears and tomatoes as well. Love the smaller scale, more personal feel of this place vs some of the other u pick places we've been to. read more

We happened to try this farm on our fruit-picking farm-hopping trip to sauvie island. We picked raspberries here and they were great tasting. But it's a smaller and newer u-pick farm compared to some others close by with lesser amenities too. There isn't even a nice place to sit and enjoy some of the fruit you just picked. read more

SUCH a fun farm! There's so much to do here. When you first drive up they have a vegetable farm, pull over into the lot and walk down to gather up so many different types of beans, corn, eggplant, carrots, beets, peppers, and much more. As you drive in a little further you'll get to the fruit stand. Pull over and park here and they'll lat you know what is available for picking at the time. I came hoping for peaches but they were all out :( Some of the other things they do grow also though are apples, prunes, nectarines, berries. They also have U-pick flowers! ($0.25 a stem) and they have fresh honey from their farm as well. The prices for the things that are already picked are okay, they are just a little bit cheaper than at the grocery store, but it just tastes so much fresher! The prices for U-pick are great! very cheap and you get so much more! The staff are all really friendly and nice. They'll help you out with whatever you need. read more

Apple picking, apple picking, and more apple picking!!!!! Fall is here and my favorite fall activity is, you guessed it, Apple picking! Did a little research online to find some u pick farms. Douglas farm seemed like they had the most selection and when I called to double check what apples we're currently ready for picking, they were super friendly. Headed to Sauvie Island on a Friday morning. The island was quiet and empty. Drove over to Douglas Farms and parked by the farmstead. Was greeted by this nice lady that said we just needed to grab a box and drive all the way to the end of the road for Apple picking. Pick as much or as little as you want then drive back up to the stand to pay. My friend and I drove down to the apple orchard and oh boy there were apple trees for days!!! Beautiful and filled with a ton of fresh apples just longing to be picked. All the rows of trees were clearly labeled with what type of Apple was growing. They had Macintosh, golden delicious, gravenstein, honey crisp etc. There was no one there except for us. We just frolicked through the fields happily picking apples. It was awesome, it was like our own private Apple orchard. Headed back up to the stand to weigh our apples. We had two boxes and it was about $20 bucks. A little pricey but we had almost 2 hours of outdoor fun and that is priceless. We wanted to go to the u pick vegetable farm because they had a ton of veggies growing but we ran out of time and had to head back into Portland. On my next day off I am definitely coming back to pick more apples and pick some veggies. Have to make some apple pie, apple crumb, apple butter, apple muffins, apple cake, Apple everything. This is my review from memory; And about my first real job which was at Douglas Brothers farm called that back in the day which lies only less than a minute by car after one crosses the Sauvies island Bridge. I worked for Douglas Brothers [there were 3] on their Hoeing crew while in High School during the summers of 1962 through 1963! They were very nice people to work for? One Brother a vet talked me into joining the Military? He was a former Marine ! When I went down to enlist in the US Marines at his urging. I stuck my head inside the door and was so intimidated by the stern looking marine sitting inside and sporting a Buzz haircut in the recruiting office that I walked down the Hall and enlisted in the US Army instead? Family owned for almost 100 years, I believe. Wonderful people, beautiful farm, and incredible fresh produce. They have doubtless variety, but we only were able to pick from two orchards for apples. Which was fine, because those were the only two that were ready. Call ahead to find out which apples are available for picking if you have an idea of picking multiple varieties for different projects this Fall. I will continue to pick apples/berries at Douglas for years to come, because this is a family farm worth supporting. read more

Douglas Farm is my go to for any and all produce- their super fresh signature peaches and apples are a delight, and the wide variety of veggies (carrots, all kinds of peppers, green beans, sweet corn, cucumbers, etc) is refreshing!  They have extremely reasonable prices and you have the option to either U-Pick or buy from the stand.  I recommend the farm to all my friends and always look forward to my summer farm adventures! read more

Visited today for the Macintosh apples and their Taste of Sauvie Island jams and jellys. Wow, the Macs are awesome. We became fans of Macs while living in New England. But in both Oregon and California we have not found any Macintoshes that came close to those we got fresh in New England -- until we got to the Douglas Farm. Fantastic! And the jam we got is superb. Top it off by the friendly and helpful family at the farm and we will definitely be back! read more

Saturday July 29th, went to pick red haven peaches at 9AM this morning, only to find that they are extremely "stringy". We tried several different trees and each bite resulted in the same peach flesh getting caught in our throats. YUCK!!!!! Which begs the question, why are you selling such an INFERIOR product to unsuspecting people????? Not a good business model if you want repeat customers!!!!! read more
