I have been to Doug's Autobody before, about half-a-year ago. The previous work done on my car (right front and back door detailing from a 2 foot scratch across on my Nissan Altima 2005) looked good, was done in a decent amount of time, and cost a medium amount compared to other estimates in the area...The repair was a refurishing of the right front door, buffering, and repainting (triple coat pearl), all for $1200. The service during the previous visit was decent, as the owner treated both my friend and me with respect, keeping things professional and to my understanding, fairly organized. In retrospect, the only moment that stuck out like a splinter was the lack of communication out of the owner to inform me of my car's completion. My friend, who appears to be much older and experienced with dealing with the normal somewhat shady business of car repairs did most of the talking. However, my second experience at the shop was a true view into the service of this business. Going off of my previous experience, I recently took in the same car for new damages to my bumper. As I arrived alone, I spoke to the owner, reminding him I had once given him my business at a seperate occasion, and had been content with the results of his employee's hard work. The man sat expressionless without a single sense of business sense in his face, muttering under his breath words of indifference and meaningless jibberish. There was absolutely no gesture of gratuity or care. Save for the moment he looked up, frowned, and said, "Ok. What do you want?" The owner then checked my car for a quick eye, and instead of giving me a written estimate, ILLEGALLY quoted a random price he would take to fix a two inch bumper dent. Wondering if he'd for any reason keep to his word and operate an illegal spoken quote for his business, I agreed on the price and time for the operation, all the time knowing it was illegal for him to continue the work under those pretenses. I left my information, wondering if he'd have a change of heart and come clean for his own sake. When i arrived at our agreed date for the repairs, the owner seemed to not remember me a second time, nor remember that he had quoted his price for a refurbishing of $400. Instead, the man, with a frown, went to check my car once again, and muttered in a fashion so I wouldn't hear him clearly, "That's a replacement you need.". He then went to type up an estimate, something that skipped our last meeting, and quoted a new price of $747. I was both shocked at the idea he wanted to abadon the shady business and other-meaning-shocked he'd send a customer through a wild goose chase of time and poor customer service. After my final test, asking him if they could take me that day like he mentioned the week before, the owner grunted that, he'd "Take me on Thursday" with the most apathetic face anyone could possibly want to (or care to) show off. Conclusion, I will not be returning to Doug's autobody, due to their lack of decent customer service and dishonest dealings. I thereby dub praise upon Performance Paint-and-Body off of Lomita and Hawthorne, across the street from Torrance memorial. There they gave me the correct researched price for refurbishing (500) in the database, along with healthy, friendly customer service. Doug is my hero. I got in a small accident with my baby on board and was in a complete state of panic when I crashed my front bumper. It was dragging on the floor as I drove into his body shop. Despite how busy he was, he took the time to cut the bumper out for me by hand himself and also assured me that he will take care of everything. He gave me the absolute best price available in the area and had it ordered and painted before asking me to come in so I don't have to rent a car for more than one day. He called me everyday to fill me in on the status and saved me from going completely insane. He has a great sense of humor and is a wonderful guy! I would give him 10 stars if I could. Absolutely the best experience with a body and paint shop I have ever had in my 40 years of having many, many cars repaired and restored..........from classic cars to daily drivers. I was rear ended on the Harbor Freeway in a 2010 Town and Country that I had owned for all of 3 days. Needless to say, I was very upset....just at the shear inconvenience in dealing with other people's insurance companies. Doug, the owner, made it all work out.....he's a true professional with lots of experience in dealing with frugal damage adjustors.....I felt from day one that I had a true advocate, rather than just a guy that was going to "fix my car." The quality of the work was "a 10 out of 10".....and I'm a picky guy.....espcially when the damage was someone else's fault. He even went "overboard" and re-repaired some work that had beeen done previousley. I've tried to find an area that he missed......which I usually can.....but I can't. The van is truly in better shape than when I bought it. He even helped me out with a "betterment charge" the other insurance company was trying cram down because they had to replace part of my exhaust system. STEER CLEAR! My experience with Doug and his employees wasn't as pleasant as some of you.. I simply came in looking to get a quote, I waited in his office for about 3 to 5 minutes and right away noticed how messy and unorganized he/it was. So I decided to ask one of his employees if he'd be back anytime soon. He looked up and said "he's in his office" and pointed in the room I was in. I politely told him nobody is in there and that I've been waiting to get a quote. And he said "well I don't know." Just as I was about to leave, Doug comes barging in asking me, "what do you need." And I tell him. He takes me outside to see my car. Takes about a minute and gives me a verbal quote. I asked if he could print that out for me and he said no, that "he'll take care of me" whatever that means.. I didn't end up leaving my car with him, as you would have imagined. I just knew he was trying to scam me. And Not only was he rude but dishonest. So don't waste your time and money. read more

Doug took care of my 2001 Ford Escape when an uninsured driver backed into me. My insurance company (AAA) wanted to total my car even though the damage was repairable. Doug went to bat for me and convinced the insurance company it wasn't a total loss & the car could be fixed for less than their estimate. I found Doug's off of Yelp and found the entire experience enjoyable. My trunk latch was worn out and broken, and my trunk would not shut close. He fixed my problem in less than 30 minutes and the repair was much more affordable than the dealership quote. Doug seemed like a very nice and honest guy. Using this place for repairs on our damaged vehicle turned out to be such a great experience because of the skill & craftsmanship of the repair work done. Not only was the damage undetectable, the difficult paint color matched PERFECTLY!!! a feat I didn't think was possible. Not only that, we got a great lead for a local mechanic from Doug that we are using regularly because his prices are so much better than we have found otherwise in the area, even with coupons!!!
