If I could leave a negative star I would. My wife had to leave her car for a couple of days at this place for them to work on it. When we came to pick it up we noticed numerous items missing from inside the car. It was clearly robbed. Either the workers didn't lock the car at night and somebody rummaged through it or their workers stole things. There was greasy hand prints all over the seats. Either way my wife spoke with the owner and he was very condescending and was totally unprofessional to her about the situation, didn't take any responsibility for it, and accused her of not locking the doors. These workers had the car for a couple of days so it was clearly their responsibility to lock it back up when they were done. Please stay away from this place unless you want to be robbed. read more

I joked in my checkin that Doug's doesn't understand how auto repair shops are supposed to work because they were fast, friendly, and reasonably priced. The fact that we've gotten so used to repair shops taking forever and overcharging for repairs is our fault as customers. The flex pipe on my son's car rusted off, and I figured it *shouldn't* be too much for the repair. But, you never know until you hear what they have to say. When we arrived, we couldn't find a place to park...I figured it would take forever to get this repair done. But, I was amazed when the tech told me they should be able to get it done today. I got a call half an hour later to go over the repair options. I was told they could replace the muffler (which has a small hole in it) for an additional $150, which isn't bad, but I passed. Two hours or so later, I got the call saying it was ready to pick up, only four hours after I dropped it off. And, small though it is, they also offer a cash option where you avoid taxes on the parts. For a bigger job, that's a decent savings. So, yeah: Doug's doesn't understand how auto repair shops are supposed to work because they were fast, friendly, and reasonably priced. If only more places were like this. read more

This is a first come - first served operation. Driving home from work, my pick-up truck suddenly got louder. Since I had exhaust work done a couple months ago while traveling out of town, I knew right away what the problem was. One of the components had become detached. I stopped by Doug's on the way home and got on the customer list. Then I waited a bit while they completed cars ahead of me. Once it was my turn, up on the hoist it went, with the loose component getting welded back into place. 5 minutes later, I heard, "you're all set." Like last time, they took no money. I have been going to Doug's for over 10 years, I went today for a new muffler because mine had a whole in it, I gave them the year make and model then was given a quote, when I left, my car was louder than it was before I took it in and it rattles when you let off the gas. I went back to complain and was told I would have to upgrade to a bigger muffler. Wait WHAT???? PUT THE SAME DAMN SIZE ON THERE THAT WAS ON IT TO BEGIN WITH !!!!!! I was quoted 1 price and then they downgraded it from what I originally had. I was kind of hesitant after my last trip there, the young kid that works there tried telling me I needed a new muffler after he tapped it and heard it rattle, I knew better and made him tap it again because I knew it was just a pipe that needed to be welded. I have been coming here for close to 20years. always had the best service and a fair price. I came into get some custom exhaust put on my car. I brought in my own x pipe, muffle's and polished exhaust pipe's. Alll stainless steel, when I got there the guy behind the counter came out to my car to check out what I had, and said no problem sir. We went inside where the "custom fabricator" met me discuss a price. He told me the price I thought it was more then fair, and offered him $50, as a tip. I wanted no problems. I was getting ready to leave on a trip. I drop off my car the next night, and pick it up after work, they were closed at this time. The " custom fabricator" hacked up my polished pipes. only showed about 2 inches off the very back, and put it to close to the fascia, we're it melted the fascia . I don't recommend anyone to go to the one on Gratiot. read more

Fast, excellent service! My boyfriend wanted to get his catalytic converter replaced and his family recommended Doug's Muffler! He called yesterday afternoon (Friday) and they said they could get it done really quickly. Awesome! Especially for a Friday. My boyfriend originally bought a catalytic converter from the local auto store for $200 but the mechanic who worked on his car, Steve, said that they had an aftermarket one that will work a lot better and the cost for the catalytic converter and labor would be $236. What a steal! We were all set and ready to go after only waiting roughly 20-30 minutes. His car runs good as new and doesn't have any issues. I will definitely be taking my car here for future issues. You can't beat the awesome prices and service! read more

Where do i even begin. this place at first glance it looks very trashy and maybe that was my first sign to get out before i lose my money. the front desk lady doesn't know what's coming out of here mouth half the time she's speaking. And the mechanic that said he can do a muffler and resonator delete clearly shouldn't work there because he was asking me how my exhaust goes on my car like come on Man you work at a exhaust shop. i Ended up paying earlier for my delete cause they were closing. Just to find out my car wasn't getting the muffler and resonator deleted just my exhaust was getting put on. went to ask for a refund because i got charged 80 dollars to put on my own exhaust she said no. like holy shit how Dumb does that sound. best part of all of it was the mechanic was high as a kite he didn't know how do you anything. so if u guys are wondering how the shop is pleaseeeeeeeeeeee don't wasteeeeee your time pleaaseee unless u wanna waste and hour and a half work on your own car and get charged for it. read more

Doug's muffler, what an awesome place. They replaced an exhaust system for me, because I dropped a name on the owner, he gave me 25 bucks off. That was cool. But even cooler, I had my wheel bearings done at another shop, well they must have used cheap parts because the passenger one kind of fell apart. So I needed to have that replaced immediately. The price was much more than I could afford, and they already had it disassembled. Well I think the mechanic randy seen that I was visibly upset about the last shop that would not accept my calls after seeing what a horrible job they had done, randy had got the price down significantly for me so that I could afford the bill. For that I am extremely grateful, and they have added a lifetime customer to they're shop. I am impressed with the time estimations because they always seem to be able to get you in and out and if they can't get you in they will tell you and you can always come back. So far they have replaced my brakes, my exhaust, fixed a broken flex pipe and repaired the passenger side wheel bearing! Soon I will have some more work for them! read more

Was just recommended by them from our main shop repair to go here. I just called and Amanda who answered the phone was very nice. She advised of the basic repair cost and how long it would take. Only thing is the person that does the repair work we need only works M-F which is OK we will just have to work around it but at least they were HONEST about it!! Just had a bunch of work done on my 2007 CTS at Doug's and I couldn't be happier with the results. I went there to begin with because the dealer wanted $2300 just to start the same work and advised me it would probably cost even more once they got into it! I talked to Randy at Doug's Muffler (an extremely friendly and knowledgeable mechanic) he gave me a quote before even looking at the car, just going by what the dealer said needed to be done, I dropped it off at 9:00 this morning and picked it up at 5:00 this evening. Total price believe it or not "$874.00" after tax!! Doug's saved me at least $1500.00! Now if that's not a good enough reason to take my vehicle back to him if something goes wrong, then there has got to be something wrong with my brain (not to say there isn't,lol, but I will definitely be taking my vehicles back to Doug's in the future). This is where I ALWAYS go to get work done on my vehicle because they are not only friendly but they are TRUSTWORTHY and WISE. (And I have a circle of friends - at least 5 - that have given me the exact same feedback.) I had a van that wouldn't start - had no idea why. Had it towed to the shop and the mechanic worked on it for 20 minutes only to find out one of the screws that held some of the wiring to the battery together had rusted off (the connection was bad, so it wouldn't start). So he just put a new screw on it, cleaned up the connection and didn't charge me a thing. I offered to please let me pay him for his time - twice - he wouldn't accept any of my money. He said he wasn't going to charge me for a screw and cleaning a battery, especially since I had to pay for towing. Another time (same vehicle) I had to get the fuel pump replaced. I had been quoted a certain dollar amt over the phone and came to pick it up when it was ready. When I got to the office, the gentleman at the front desk (I believe he is the owner) had my receipt and was on the phone with another customer. (I was told to see him, pay, etc.) I looked at my receipt and noticed it was listed $40.00 higher than what I was quoted. My friends and I trust these guys and I knew there would be a reason for it, so I figured I would at least ask why. He hung up the phone and before I even asked he said, "Wait a minute...we quoted you [original price]" right?" I said, "Yes." He crossed off the extra $40.00 and said, "Well then, that's what we're charging you. Forget that." I was shocked. I've NEVER seen that in my life. (And I have been there other times where I have heard this happen with other customers. Or where they have come back and something wasn't done right and they fixed it for them and took ownership of it.) I have OTHER stories but most recently was when my last car had an engine issue. I took it there because I trusted them and it was due for a tune up anyway. The mechanic called me and said, "I was looking at your mileage and are you sure this isn't still under warranty? Why don't you call your dealership first because I don't want to touch this and charge you if you could save yourself some money. If this is under warranty - go there and get it done." I was under the impression I had just passed but sure enough I called the dealership and I had some very strange warranty that I was JUST under. I went to pick up the car and couldn't thank the mechanic enough for his honesty! (Who does that?!) He said, "Hey, you'll be back. We don't have to cheat people." I have MORE stories...my friends have similar stories. And we ALWAYS recommend them. GOOD, HONEST, CAR SHOP. It DOES exist! read more
