Delicious food! My husband and I shared a very nice salad, some brisket, and a baked potato. The waitress was very cordial and all staff was on task. The service wasn't fast, but not slow either, and we weren't in any hurry so we were happy with the speed of service. We stopped here for lunch on our way through town. There were only a couple of other customers there. The menu wasn't huge, but what they had sounded good. I ordered the house salad with pulled pork on it. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich with onion rings. We were both happy with our choices. My salad was fresh, the cucumbers and tomatoes cut into small pieces, plenty of meat on top, and two containers of delicious thick ranch dressing. I had to ask for the tortilla chips that came with it. My husband had to ask for pickles. Both minor things. Service was fast and friendly. Our server checked back with us a couple of times. There was a lit-up bar area, several tables, and a few tv's to watch. They also have outdoor seating. The restrooms were outside. Everything was clean. If you're craving BBQ this place does hit the spot. The Brisket, salad and fries are fire, the rest is good. Sausage had great taste but was cold, pulled pork was good. The cornbread is good but taste like it was store bought and more like a breakfast muffin. Server was by herself working a large party and two other tables but did amazing. There are three "hidden gems" in this small town in the middle of everywhere and nowhere. During the "off season", there are only 5 or 6 restaurants that are open. Doug's is one of them. On a recent weekend trip to Monticello, my son and I had the pleasure to dine at this unassuming little place. Inside and out, it is not much to look at, but don't judge this book by it's cover! Unfortunately, they didn't have ribs available, but the brisket... OMG THE BRISKET!!! Have you ever had brisket so incredibly tender that you actually needed a spoon? Seriously! This brisket was so tender that it would crumble and fall off of a fork! Service was fast, friendly, and helpful. This place is awesome. The gal that runs it is super personable, quick service and the food was amazing. The atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming. I had the brisket tacos. They were fabulous and my husband had the regular burger with the homemade fries and it was awesome. The bun was super fresh and one thing I might add is that you can get liquor here. We were RVing it in Blanding but did not realize it is a dry town, but Monticello is not and there beer was super cold and super good. We would totally go back if we were going to be here more days!! Sadly, I really wanted to like this place because the restaurant has a great barbecue-themed atmosphere and a welcoming look. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. The barbecue tasted like it had been sitting around since the day before. The meat was dry, chewy, and lacked the fresh, tender quality you expect from good barbecue. Every bite felt overcooked and reheated rather than freshly prepared. One thing that also surprised me was the tipping situation. I handed my waitress a $15 cash tip, and she told me that all tips are shared and that she had to take it to the register. While I understand restaurants can have different tipping policies, I prefer my tip to go directly to the person who provided the service. It left me feeling uncomfortable and took away from the overall dining experience. Maybe I visited on an off day, but between the disappointing food and the awkward tipping experience, I left wishing I had chosen somewhere else. Staff acted like we were interrupting their very important TikTok scrolling session--barely looked up when taking the order, zero smiles, one-word answers, and straight-up rolled their eyes when I asked for extra sauce. Probably because I heard they make them share tips with the back crew. Pay the back crew better then. The meat? Dry as a cardboard box left in the Nevada sun for three summers. Brisket had the texture of an old boot sole and somehow zero smoke flavor--like they forgot to turn the smoker on. Ribs were tough, overcooked, and tasted mostly of disappointment. Coleslaw was just sad shredded cabbage swimming in watery mayo. Beans were straight from a can with zero seasoning. Even the sweet tea tasted like someone stirred it with regret. $18 for a two-meat plate that made me wish I'd just eaten gas station jerky instead. Place sucked. Atmosphere sucked. Food sucked. Ordered poppers as appetizer. They were brought to the table within a few minutes. Obviously they were not fresh made, no way to fry the bacon in that amount of time. I ordered a brisket sandwich. It was dry and had way too much what i believe to be was black pepper. Im sure the brisket was warmed in the microwave also and that is why it was dry. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich and said it was too strong in the taste of black pepper. They bring you a very small container of bbq sauce, one for each sandwich , the type like you get from fast food places. . The meal was extremely expensive for the quality of the food. There were no veggies with the meal such as pickles, peppers, onion, etc. i asked for a slice of onion and received a small slice of red onion. Most quality bbq joints have a bottle or two of sauce on the table to use as you like. Service was good but there were only two other couples eating. No refills were offered on the ice tea. The dining area is pleasant and clean. I feel they are trying to be cheap with the sauce etc and charging five star prices. $11 for four poppers that was actually 2 peppers cut in half that had been rewarmed in a microwave...really?? Menu says the poppers are $9 for small order but we were charged $11. Im sure they will get tourists to stop and eat since they will not be repeat customers but we are local and will not eat here again. Save your money and go to Subway up the road. read more

A pleasant surprise in the middle of Utah. Who knew you could find decent BBQ? The meat plate portions looked huge, so we opted for the brisket nachos and the pulled pork salad with cilantro lime dressing. Both were excellent. The salsa with the nachos was delicious too, and made a nice dressing (when mixed with ranch) for the salad too. Wine & beer selections are limited, but they're decent. We wrote our tip and as we were walking out, she said "this must be your first time tipping. let me give you a tip and help you. your service was better than this and your tip is too low." We stumbled upon this place while passing through Monticello from Moab and were drawn in by the glowing reviews. After a strenuous day of hiking, we were more than ready to eat. Even in such a small town (population around 2,000 per Google), several families were dining when we walked in around 7pm but fortunately there was no wait. We ordered the combo platter which consisted of pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and Kielbasa sausage, and 3 platters (1/4 lb meat of choice with corn muffin and one side- we chose corn on the cob and cole slaw). We were told the combo platter could serve 4-5 people with sides, but my brother had no trouble finishing it by himself with a full side of fries, and was left still wanting more. The pulled pork and brisket were both tender and juicy, and I made full use of the table sauces (options were sweet, smoky, and A1 steak sauce). The corn muffin was a little on the dry side but I used the honey packets provided to add additional flavor. We all enjoyed our meal and were too full to order dessert but the options did look quite appetizing. read more

What an unexpected surprise when we found this gem of a restaurant in Monticello, Utah. We've had BBQ in iconic states like Texas, Tennessee and the Carolinas. We shared the combo plate and ordered Mac and cheese, coleslaw and baked beans for sides along with chips and salsa for an appetizer. The salsa was fresh, flavorful and had just enough heat. It was addicting! The plate was piled high with a large amount of succulent pulled pork, tender and juicy beef brisket and the best ever St. Louis Style pork ribs. TO. DIE. FOR! As for the sides...the beans were smokey and sweet, the Mac and cheese, holy cow, divine! The coleslaw was cool and creamy.
