Do NOT get any pork dish here. The server informed me they mainly serve beef or chicken - which means the pork stays in the freezer much longer. I got the pork pad thai and it was below average. The pork tasted stale, rancid, and gamey. The dish noodles themselves were just ok. Ambiance was calm, servers were sweet. They only had one chef, didn't have sushi and a number of other dishes when I went in on a Friday afternoon, though. Not sure if it was poor timing or if it is usually like that. Bottom line: This may be a historically local favorite, but it is certainly not up to par with other places. Apparently the quality has gone down over the last couple years, unsure what changed. If you're visiting from out of town and are craving Thai food, go to Arches Thai in Moab, UT - WAY better food for similar price. It is worth the extra drive, trust me. read more

Ordered a birthday dinner here - curry was incredibly watery, the shrimp in a blanket were meh for the price, they were out of eggplant and the Prik King hardly had any green beans and wasn't flavored correctly. The mango sticky rice was incredibly watery as well. A pretty expensive meal and thoroughly mediocre. There was a lot of meat in both dishes. If you really just have to have Thai food it's not terrible, but I won't be going back again. Sad when an old favorite falls from grace. :( read more

Loved the food here. Great spot to eat at on a four corner area/ Canyonland NP/ on route to/ from a Moab trip. My husband and I tried these dishes: -Golden Tofu with appetizer with tamarind sauce topped with peanuts: My husband said I was crazed with this one. We both thought it was the best fried tofu appetizer we have had in a Thai restaurant. The outside was very flakey and crispy and the sauce was sooo good. I believe it has tamarind. Tom Yum with noodles Khao soi curry noodles Pumpkin curry Larb tofu: our least favorite here. The tofu wasn't fried which played a big role for us. Service was good too. Looks like they have some outdoor seats when the weather permits. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! On the highway to Moab, we found this place that was actually open past 8 pm and had a nice experience: great service, good food, private parking lot. From the outside this place doesn't look like Asian fare and inside, there was no chef at the sushi counter. Everything was a little pricier than you would expect in a small town but we enjoyed the food: chicken katsu, avocado roll and a cucumber salad ($8). The service was excellent; two servers took care of the entire restaurant and were on point! The only thing I didn't love about the place was that it didn't feel very clean; it could use some cleaning and sprucing up. The bathroom also had a washing machine in it. read more

I would've loved to try Jo Roen, we got to the restaurant at 8:15PM (they close at 9PM). The waitress/hostess got up from a table that she was sitting at and welcomed us in and said "we can serve you, but you'll have to carry out". I replied, oh, your hours say open till 9pm. She said "yeah, we don't accept walk in's after 8pm". Keep in mind, there was only 3 tables being served, and no one else was behind us. So delicious, cozy, and the best hospitality! This lodge-style restaurant appeared like a mirage driving in the dark through the snow. Everything was so good, especially the tom kha soup and drunken noodles. The original owner was beloved in the community and very sadly passed from covid. His niece kept the restaurant going and was so welcoming. The dishes were even better than our favorite Thai spot at home in Boston! There are three "hidden gems" in this small town in the middle of everywhere and nowhere. During the "off season", there are only 5 or 6 restaurants that are open. Ja Roen is one of them, and one you should check out regardless of the time of year. The restaurant offers two menus, one Thai, one Japanese. I cannot speak to the Japanese, but if it is half as good as the Thai, then it is still better than most of what you will find in a large city. Ja Roen is the only place open on Sunday, so take that into consideration, but we recently had the opportunity to eat here twice. Both times we (my adult son and I) were greeted promptly and told to sit wherever we wanted. On Saturday night, we were helped by the owner (assumption), and everything was phenomenal. I went with my Thai standard, Massaman Curry with Chicken, Hot & sticky rice. My son ordered the Drunken Noodles w/ beef. My very first bite and I was stunned. Not that this was great Thai food for a small town, but this was great Thai food in a large, international city! The chicken literally melted in your mouth! As for spiciness, I probably should have gone with the "Thai hot", not just hot, but the flavors were amazing. I only tried a piece of the beef from son's Drunken Noodles, but even that melted in your mouth! On our second night, I am pretty sure the person who was taking care of us was the owner's son. You know you ordered right when he says "Sick, you got it!" This time I ordered the Thai Pepper Steak, son ordered the Thai Noodle Soup, with beef. Again. Absolutely amazing!! What a gem this eatery is. Monticello looks as if it is going through some challenges. Several stores are for sale or boarded up, one of the restaurants which got good reviews is closed. I hope such a fate doesn't befall this combination Thai/Japanese restaurant. I walked a couple of miles from my camp site, forgetting my phone so alas, no photos. But let me describe to you what I experienced. It is a comfortable place with a western feel mixed with touches of Thailand and Japan adorning the walls. Lots of windows bring in light and there are plenty of booths and tables to accommodate families, groups, or solos, like me. I ordered the fresh rolls. They were among the best I've had anywhere. Lots of julienned carrots, cabbage, lettuce, mint, and sprouts wrapped up in a delicate, thin rice paper. The sauce wasn't that too too peanuty peanut sauce you so often find (and I eschew). Instead, it was a concoction of seasoned rice vinegar with a generous float of chopped nuts on top. Delicious. I also had the tofu green curry. It was quite good. Not the best I've ever had, but stand alone worth ordering. Rich with perfectly cooked veggies, the curry sauce was a touch too salty for me. Though I imagine in the heat of a canyon day here in Utah, that extra salt would be pretty useful. My server was attentive without being cloying. The food arrived quickly even though there were several people coming and going as new arrivals replaced the old. If you're passing this way on your exploration of the wonders of Utah, you couldn't do much better than a meal at this sweet little restaurant. Oh, a word about the sushi: I'm not likely to order raw fish in the desert but I checked it out. It looked fresh. Locals told me it is very good. read more

So a big gap in the reviews of this place is that THEY SERVE BREAKFAST! They open at 7am , have juice, and not only can you get eggs, pancakes, and eggs benedict, but the full Thai menu (they said) was available, so if you want Larb Na or Pad Woon Sen for brekky they gotcha covered. I ordered eggs Benedict and my wife had a thai rice-chicken soup, apparently a popular Thai breakfast. The soup was a lot like congee, but with whole rice. The eggs Benedict were just fine. There are not a lot of breakfast choices in Monticello so if you don't want donuts or overpriced avocado toast this is indeed the place. read more

We ordered the Tom Yum Fried Rice with Chicken as the protein choice and also the Crab Rangoon. The Tom Yum Fried Rice was so delicious and they didn't compromise on the Tom Yum flavors, and the quantity was enough for 2 people. Would recommend getting this. But the Crab Rangoon was average and it had way too much cream cheese in it and not much of a crab taste in it, so I wouldn't try that again. By the time we went they were already near closing time, but the staff were so polite and didn't rush us in any way. read more
