[[HIGHLIGHT]]Visiting from CO found this beautiful spot with a beautiful location![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Grabbed an 18in Vegan classic with a side of pepperoncini's and copious amounts of their house made jalapeño and Habanero hot sauces! The pie was amazing from the veggies, red sauce to the perfectly crunchy crust on every piece! This was the perfect balanced pizza. Good Beer and wine menu as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Stop in and sit outside and eat some delicious ZA.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We'll be coming back the next time around! Oh and side note, the two pieces leftover tasted amazing cold for my next day brekkie!

Best $10 spent for lunch. Reasonable, affordable, and easy. Great service. I was in need for a quick lunch and Hotlips delivered!

What a DEAL!! ???...

It's so exciting to find a DEAL! Check out this screenshot, what you think you're getting... a $39.80 crossed out 2 for $20! Ha! We got two pizzas that didn't even fill the tiny boxes!! What are these, pizzas for ants?! Misleading advertising (obviously, read the fine print but it totally felt icky!)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance: 6.5/10 walk up by the slice pizza joint. Cool exterior and great location[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service: 6/10 good, nothing to complain about Food: 6.5/10 Loved how fast the food came out. Order by the slice, they heat it up fast, everything you'd want in a quick pizza spot. The slice I got was good but too blue cheese forward. I would have appreciated a bit more apple to compensate or maybe some type of jam/jelly to make it like a charcuterie style pie or even candied walnuts. But if you like blue cheese, give it a try. Dough was solid even after reheating it. I'll be back to try more slices.

Nice variety of slices available at lunch during my visit. Had the Winterarita (Margherita) slice which was a big, beautiful slice. Very foldable. I added red pepper flakes for additional flavor. I found the tomato sauce slightly too sweet, but still tasty. The slice had a bit of natural flop, so could have used another minute of oven time, however being that it's sold by the slice, I understand the challenge of keeping each slice at the perfect bake. Good, quick service. Free WiFi. Canned and fountain soda and drinks, as well as several local beers on tap.

Pizza was delicious! Coming from a former pizza owner, I have to say that they came extremely close to the pies I make! Fresh ingredients and excellent flavor! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is hidden but easy to find.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean place and friendly staff![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Luis does make a pretty good pie!

Slice + pint 9.25

Not my favorite pizza but decent, I was looking for a quick cheap slice and a beer and that's exactly what I got. When I went they had 5 slice options, a pepperoni & a cheese, and a rotating meat/vegetarian/vegan option. Cheese/pepperoni are a bit too basic for me and the meat option that day was Hawaiian so I went for the Primavera (vegetarian) which was a pesto base w/ cheese but was a bit salty and maybe not heated up enough. I felt like it was missing something so I added their habanero sauce which improved it, but also I usually like meat so I take that into account. They have great HH deals tho, a slice+pint for 9.25 & I think it's all day now.

I happened to be in the area at lunchtime and stopped into HotLips for a slice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This location is in the Eco Trust building. I had never been here before, but it's pretty cute. They have a nice patio, wonderful old wide plank wood floors, just a couple of indoor tables, and of course, pizza, sodas, and ice cream sandwiches from Ruby Jewel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got the available vegetarian slice (Winterita - marinara and basil, even though the temperature outside tells me it's very much summer). They heated it up for me. It was tasty and service was friendly. I think it came out to about $5 for a slice after tip.

My husband's favorite food is pizza so naturally one of our first stops in Portland was Hot Lips. We were between Sizzle Pie and Hot Lips and a friend told us she prefers Hot Lips and the reviews were better as well. The pizza itself was super yummy, the crust was thin and crispy. The basil pesto breadstick had a lot of pesto flavor and dipped in ranch was Heaven. The jalapeño sauce made the pizza in my opinion. It wasn't too spicy that it overpowered the pizza but just enough kick to bring out the flavors. I'm also such a sauce and condiment person so I am such a sucker for a good dipping sauce. My husband and I are currently sober so we were happy to see a wide selection of non alcoholic beers. The ranch was yummy and flavorful. Still my favorite pizza in the world is Regents Chicago style pizza in La Jolla but Hot Lips still was a yummy meal!

Stumbled on this place thanks to their happy hour sign! We stopped in to see what the specials were and landed on a $4 pint, pizza slice and breadstick! The gentleman at the register was super friendly and helpful, and even gave us both the marinara and house made ranch to try since we were from out of town! We got the cider, specialty pizza with the chicken sausage, onion and arugula, and the parmesan breadstick. All were great, but I'll definitely be dreaming about that breadstick later!

Service: Pizza: Although quite oily on the top, the under carrier was crisp. I wish I had the ability to take one slice home and toast it for personal preference! Sheesh these slices are big and filling. I definitely could have had just one and a beer this time around. Crust is bomb dot com, wish there was more :(

I CANNOT believe that I have never left a review here! I've been coming here for a couple years…read morejust for the Margherita pizza! It's truly sensational and the most authentic I have tasted! When I order I go in person because I have special requests of extra sauce, etc and everyone who leaves this amazing restaurant always raves about it to the staff upon leaving. The best part though is just how NICE they ALL are! I fly from LA just to come get pizza and some to take back. The crust is perfect chewiness and perfection with the right amount of airy and right about of thin and the sauce is amazing! You will NOT be disappointed! They also fulfill my special requests with ease and a smile! I have told thousands of flight crew about this place as it's right around the corner from our layover hotel. I bid this layover ONLY to get pizza. Yes, I gave up a Hawaii, Cancun and Costa Rica trip for this layover for Mucca Pizza, so that should say it all! So appreciate how kindly they treat you when you walk in the door:) amazing staff and owner.

I also must have missed something on the menu about another extra charge as the margherita pizza was supposed to be $18 but had $18.70 on the bill. So overall soggy and very expensive so no need for me to return.

Detroit style pizza. If you know, you know. The crispy…read moreedge, the stripes of sauce, the pillowy soft middle with toppings upon toppings ladled on top. New York and Chicago are still trying to catch up. But we are in the Pacific Northwest, nowhere near Loui's Pizza or Buddy's Pizza (Detroit pizza staples). So many times, what tries to pass off as "Detroit style" falls miles short. Then came "Ranch" where I stood outside and screwed up enough courage to try yet another Detroit style pizza. The interior was small, one wall lined with tomato sauce cans, the menu was bolted to a wall. The smell took me back and that gave me some hope. The pizza arrived at the table, the wife and I have varied tastes so we each ordered a quarter pizza. Mine was pepperoni, the wife had a veggie. The pizzas looked right, square, caramelized crispy edges, heavy toppings... and then on the side of the plate was this cup of ranch dressing. Duh! "Ranch" obviously has to have a good ranch, right? I dipped my pinky finger in the ranch and took a taste. You would not think one ranch can be so far ahead of the others, but ranch is the place for ranch, as well as pizza. My first bite brought a smile to my face, it was just, right in every way that a Detroit pie should be. I have been back to try their #4 pie with sausage and ricotta, and I am looking forward to more trips. If all that was not enough, the service was friendly, the food came out so quick (about 10 minutes) and the place was nice and clean.

If you're in or planning to be in Portland, Oregon, I respectfully and enthusiastically recommend you include Pizza Kat in your considered alternatives. A thin, flexible, and tasty-all-by-itself crust. Tomato sauce that adroitly walks the lines between sweet and acidic, and between supporting the other elements well, fading into obscurity, and overwhelming those other elements. The right amounts of the right cheeses. And fresh, tasty toppings. (Sweet Italian sausage not dominated by garlic and mushrooms worth eating on their own, for two delicious examples.) Even better, prices are reasonable, and delivery is available. We had some delivered to our hotel, and it arrived almost as hot and tasty as we would have expected were we at a table near the ovens. There are other pizzas worth eating -- including the thicker-crust "deep cut" slices available before and after select shows at Revolution Hall. But when you want the thin-crust version done right, Pizza Kat will leave your taste buds and tummy purring, without clawing the life out of your wallet.

Unfortunately, this was both our first and last visit. I don't think I've ever disliked a pizza before, but this may be the first one I would genuinely call bad. I enjoy wood-fired pizza and don't mind a little char, but somehow this pizza tasted noticeably bitter despite having very little visible charring. Whether it was the lack of sauce, the sauce itself being quite bland, or simply an imbalance of flavors, the end result just wasn't pleasant. The biggest issue is the value. A $25 cheese pizza doesn't need to be life-changing, but it should at least taste better than Costco's. In this case, unfortunately, it didn't. If your goal is to enjoy great pizza, I'd recommend one of the many other pizza spots in the area instead.

Portland is a tough place for pizzerias since the variety & quality is so good throughout the city…read more But for 25+ (35?) years, this little slice-or-whole-pie place in NW 23rd has churned out the tied-for-best pizza in the city. It's true NY style, thin enough to fold if you're walking, the perfect amount of oily, with only the freshest of mozzarella. Slices are available at the counter (and a few stools if you're just having a quick lunch) all day. For a whole pie, call ahead to schedule (503-22-SLICE has been their number since I moved here decades ago) and they'll give you a time generally 20-35 minutes in the future depending on how busy they are. Staff are just like NYC: no suck-up, extra sarcasm, and if you stand at the register for 5+ minutes fumbling with your wallet, they might make a snide comment. But it's endearing grouchy, not really mean, and it adds to the "flavor" of the whole place. Parking in NW 23 is usually very hard. For example, when the Arugula Salad is made well, it is fantastic. However we have had repeated experiences where the greens are not fresh, or the dressing is forgotten, or there is no cheese. We have had repeated issues specifically with takeout orders, over many years. Additionally, if you dine-in, there is an entire bottle of oil on the table that you are encouraged to use on your pizza. It is delicious, and really completes the pizza flavor profile! They used to automatically include two small containers of oil per pizza if you ordered to-go. Current policy appears to be to not include any oil with the pizza (unless explicitly asked) and to only provide a maximum of two oils (even if multiple pizzas are ordered). I don't know if there is an oil shortage or what, but this is silly for a place that charges so much for their pizza. Life of Pie is a typical Portland restaurant that expects you to tip before you receive your food (and also expects you to bus your own table). To me, this expectation alongside with the inconsistency of the food for the price, is disappointing, and does not encourage people to go out of their way to return. When the food is good it is a solid place, however I would expect much more consistency for the price they command.
