This is your basic diner. It is very popular (crowded when we went), but service was great. Prices are good. Now, about the food (this is what we had): 1. Pepsi products, and they don't brew their own tea. 2. Italian sub (not hoagie), Fine, kind of mild. 3. Pizza [beef] Cheesesteak--this was delicious--they really made a good sandwich here. 4. French fries. Batter-dipped-style. I guess it's easier for restaurants to make these because they can probably stay under a heat-lamp longer. I was happy to see this place re-opened. We went for a late breakfast during the week so it wasn't very busy. The place was very clean and our waitress was extremely nice and attentive. The food was typical diner food and it was all very tasty. We had pancakes, scrapple, scrambled eggs, coffee, and biscuits and gravy. The portions were good-sized and everything was well-priced. The diner recently reopened under new management after being closed for almost 2 years. I was very excited when they opened and REALLY REALLY wanted to LOVE this place. We went for breakfast - it wasn't particularly busy, but after we were seated, we waited 20 min before anyone even acknowledged us and came to offer coffee and take our drink orders. All this while we watched other patrons arrive, be seated and then be waited on within minutes! A pair that came in and were seated at the same time we were, in the same section, ordered and ate before our food even arrived! When our waitress finally did come over, she didn't introduce herself and spoke in a barely audible whisper. I learned her name from watching and listening to her interactions with the table next to us. We waited another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. We didn't have any silverware. There was another waitress that was also working in out section and she was unhappy with the arrangement of the tables as it made it difficult for her to maneuver in that area. Every time she came by she gave us a dirty look as if we had arranged the tables and chose our seating. Rather than ask the host to stop seating people in that area or ask for help rearranging some of the tables, she just continued to walk around complaining and rolling g her eyes - just very rude. We didn't have a large order, just one omelette, one breakfast sandwich and one French toast platter. I also ordered a side of " Texas Hash-browns" for an additional $4.99. They were supposed to have peppers & onions and with a name like Texas Hash-browns, I expected a little seasoning and flavor. What you see in the picture is literally what I received - one small sliver of a red pepper- nothing else. Nothing to distinguish the Texas Hash Browns from the regular hash browns on my daughter's plate. The only difference was the price. The food was over cooked and bland. My daughter's French toast was more like plain toast. The omelette was supposed to have Cheddar Cheese, but instead contained oily melted slices of presumably American cheese. The waitress never came back ( although she was at other tables in the same section). I asked her for the check and she said ok, but didn't come back. I had to go track down my check from another employee. I can give a little grace on the long wait for the food considering they just opened, but the service was just horrible. The staff were rude and unfriendly. I could have went down the street to the RT 13 Grill, ordered and ate in the amount of time I sat waiting at this place - and for ALOT less. I was charged $43 for that garbage. I definitely will not be going back to this place. read more

Expected a good home cooked dinner after a week of drive thru eating. Not so much! Turkey dinner with all the fixings was the special of the night, but sold out! Asked about the roast beef dinner and was told the roast beef was deli meet!!!!! Asked for a recommendation and was told the meatloaf was good and very popular, so I did that! There was soooooooo much salt on both the loaf and gravy I couldn't do it! Pickled beets were good and the server was friendly. May give it another try for breakfast, how bad could they over salt eggs????? We will see! read more

Whenever I have family visiting from out of town I always recommend going out to breakfast and this is place I take them! Nothing like a throw back diner! The food in my opinion is always good! I haven't come for anything other then breakfast but it's always good! The service is usually pretty good as well! It seems like every time I come it's on a busy Sunday morning! So as expected it can be a bit slower on getting those refills or sugar packets! And that's okay because it's not like it's not busy! On this visit, I ordered their Hollywood style omelette (eggs, steak, mushrooms, cheese). Absolutely delish! It is a diner, but it has a wide array of choices on its breakfast menu as well as its lunch/dinner menu. Service was very friendly and attentive. Not sure what Yelp expects me to say about ambience--it's "basic diner" through and through, but that's in its name. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. (I find it almost unfortunate that it's named Hollywood diner, because Hollywood, California is actually quite run-down and most parts can be very dangerous.) The only thing I personally missed not having on the menu was milkshakes. Was that a show stopper? Certainly not. Would I eat here again when searching within its class? Absolutely! The food was really good and the menu selection was pretty decent too. Our server was very kind, despite being on her 2nd double shift. We took four adults and two kids with us. As native New Yorkers we were so excited to go to a diner again. Unfortunately we will not go back. Two people ordered spaghetti and eggplant. Was not very good. One ordered monte cristo again not good. Chicken tenders had a weird taste to the breading. The chicken fried steak was good along with an excellent corn pudding side dish. This place has been open for a little over two weeks prior to us visiting it. We went for breakfast on Saturday and the place was very busy, but we got seated quickly and the waitress, Selima, waited on us. She greeted us with a smile and was very pleasant the entire time even though she was pretty slammed with tables. The food came out hot, in a timely fashion, and the food was AMAZING! The dining experience was so nice, we ended up returning on Sunday morning for another breakfast. Once again, the place was very busy, but we got seated quickly and Selima waited on us again. She pretty much was taking care of all the tables and doing it with a smile (come to find out some staff called in sick due to COVID). The food, again, was delicious and served in a timely fashion. I don't understand why the establishment has only a few stars in its rating. We would highly recommend this place and while we are here in town, it will be the place to go for great food. This was our 3rd visit since reopending. !st for dinner was good, 2nd for breakfast - just average but our 3rd visit was absolutely terrible. Ordered open face meatloaf sandwich which came with a paper thin slice of meatloat and what looked to be a half serving of mashed potatoes. Also ordered a fish and chips basket which was almost inedible - breading was gummy and french fries were virtually inedible with a mealty texture. Both the fish and fries tasted on old cooking oil. There were only a few customers at the time so no excuse for lack of follow up attention from the service, no coffee refill offered, had to go to register to get our bill. We are longtime Dover residents and have real affection for this iconic location. We were hopeful of success with this latest reopening but we are not planning to try again. read more
