First time we've eaten here since they re-opened and we made an excellent choice this morning! The entire restaurant looks like it's new and was definitely deep cleaned. New upholstery in the booths, lots of new touches. The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. Our food was hot and delicious, as was our coffee. Highly recommend. The wife and I decided to come and try this place out since it was under new management holy sh*t! What a huge mistake that was on my part, Waited for over 15 minutes before we were offered drink options (they were busy but not packed and had over 3 waitresses in our seating area) The wife ordered a well done burger and I ordered the according to the owner "fresh cod fillets" and fries and we ordered the potato skins for an appetizer. When the potato skins came out the cheese was burnt and the bacon underneath the cheese was still pink and chewy and had some pieces that weren't even cooked! My wife's burger was pink and still had cold spots in it! She was offered another burger by the waitress and when the one came out it was medium just the burger that was replaced lol my "fish and chips" they stabbed the fish to make sure it was cooked through but stacked the leaking fish on top of the fries yay for soggy fries lol was told there were 5 chefs on the line all family members so I have no clue how that happened maybe some of them call themselves chefs but most likely can barely boil water, it's sad the waitress has to bring that crap food out to patrons, I really wish the chef would've brought it out cause they definitely need a wake up call. We let a couple of people who were walking up the ramp to go inside we warned them about the quality of the food and they turned right around and went to U.S 13 grill! I've never had food poisoning before, and I usually have a stomach and immune system that will purge any type of foodborne illness without me noticing a thing. But remember, we are talking about the Hollywood Diner where anything is possible. I went the safe route and ordered eggs, hashbrowns, and toast since breakfast food is ALWAYS good There were only two other parties there, yet it took the classless boars working there roughly an hour to bring out a grease-covered turd-of-a-breakfast. No amount of ketchup or hot sauce will add the necessary *touch* required by such a tasteless meal. I wasn't that upset, because I was famished and the meal was under $10. I nearly didn't make it to my hotel room (a mere 1 mile away) before my night (and almost my jeans) was ruined by the bacteria-laden filth I so casually ingested. I would normally blame myself for knowingly getting into a jam of this nature, but even I couldn't have predicted the magnitude of my decision I witlessly made three painful nights ago. And this isn't just a freak occurrence. Another member of my party has contracted a foodborne illness from the Hollywood Diner and says his insides are, "Torn apart." I wouldn't wish this torment upon my worst enemies and would highly discourage anyone from even thinking about choosing the culinary prowess the Hollywood Diner offers. The server tried hard but the kitchen was useless. I ordered their goulash special and got a plate that resembled junk stew: maccaroni noodles with bell peppers, onions and ground beef in an almost non existant tomato sauce. Hamburger helper would have been more appetizing. I sent it back. My wife's scrambled eggs were stil runny and my son's hash browns were by Oreida - totally frozen fried then served. Within ten minutes of sitting down, a fight broke out in the foyer. Not that that has anything to do with the food, necessarily, but it's a testament to the type of crowd you might expect to find in the middle of the night at one of Dover's three restaurants that manage to stay open past 10 PM. This is a city whose growth is largely due to the tourist money from the casino, so as you might imagine, the nightlife is a bit lacking. In the case of the Hollywood Diner, the food is lacking, too. Oh sure, the menu is expansive - you could get a steak and lobster dinner if you were truly willing to tempt fate, but this is a diner, after all, so you're best off playing to the typical diner strengths. This means eggs, one of the few things upon which no restaurant can easily shrift you. I had a tomato and mozzarella omelette which reached the upper echelons of "not bad," and the same could be said of the toast, as well, though the way it was presented it could have been called a butter sandwich. The good stops there - my dining compatriots had complaints about their severely overcooked chicken strips, the bland and salty waffles, and while The Hollywood was generous in giving up two warm-n-serve hash brown patties, it wasn't worth my time to make it through even one of them. I guess the scrapple wasn't bad, and the coffee was plentiful, so there's that. They say nothing good happens after 2 AM. I think choosing the Hollywood could be included amongst that list of mistakes. read more

Me and my family went there for Thanksgiving. The food is pretty good. We got the turkey special, that was one great turkey! It comes with a lot of side dishes. Reasonable pricing considering that the diners in NY (where I'm originally from) are more expensive. The only bad thing about our whole lunch was that the salad was too small. This place has struggled to keep its charm and good food and service since the owner is no longer around. Servers here are hit or miss. Had chili here once and I swear it was Hormel. I usually stick with the country fried steak and have never been disappointed with it. It can be a little salty sometimes though. It's open 24 hrs and one of very few places that are open late at night. So the patrons can vary greatly. read more

The diner that once was . I have not been in this diner in years so I did not know what to expect . I had one of the lunch specials , meatloaf , fries and broccoli. The meatloaf was extremely dry and flavorless . The fries did not have any seasoning on them and the broccoli was microwaved . My friend ordered what any American would eat at a diner a simply cheeseburger deluxe. Well he was in for another shock a very bland burger . Also way over priced mozzarella sticks 8.00 for 6 . If you look up to the ceiling you could see massive amounts of dust that can blow on your food when the heat or a/c kicked in . To be honest I felt like I was overcharged for what I got . 28.00 is a bit pricey for what I got . I guess the nostalgia of going back to my younger years hang out place was a failure . 88 year old room mate and I stopped in. Frozen, badly microwaved meat lasagna that showed no evidence of meat. A burger ordered rare, delivered medium well. Bitter lettuce and old onions on a salad. I asked that my meal be removed from the ticket, and waited while he ate his meal. During that time, I heard the waitress talking to someone else about the "a**hole" at a certain table. Oh, and the waitress poured coffee into a cup of tea. That was the tipping point. When I remarked about that, she told everyone that I was mad because my hamburger hadn't been cooked to my taste, and then came up to the table and told me in a loud voice that SHE WOULD HAVE COOKED IT HERSELF IF SHE THOUGHT IT WAS THAT IMPORTANT. She said this in front of her husband (?) and children, who had just walked in, bringing the body count to about eight in the entire place. (Fire Department limit sign says 90) The husband/boyfriend looked like a bit player from Easy Rider, and the kids screeched and yelled the rest of the time we were there. This place looks clean from the outside, but the walls inside are filthy and so is the bathroom floor. The Heinz ketchup bottle on our table had obviously been refilled -- two different colors of ketchup inside, and the glass bottle was filled right up to the lid. The sweetener compartment had been soaked several times, as most of the packets were stuck together. Fly population is healthy, they will dive-bomb your food. If you go here, pay CASH. While we were waiting for the check, I heard our superb (not) waitress talking to someone else about a credit card which had been charged 2 times when the person had only been in once. Rude, very rude staff, frozen and overcooked hamburger patties, frozen lasagna, and lots of attitude. The place needs to be bought out by a new owner, staffing changes need to happen, and it needs to become a real icon there on Rt 13. Also, if you look over the rest of yelp for the last few years, you can easily spot times when the place has gotten a few months of good reviews. Followed by months of bad reviews. I love eating at diners. The menu variety is endless. Thanks to Hollywood Diner for excellent service and food. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The food was yummy, fresh, and cooked to our liking. I ordered the turkey sandwich with fries and added a house salad. My husband ordered the steak, baked potato, & broccoli. His steak was cooked perfectly! He's pretty picky so if he says it's good, it's good. We each had a piece of pie to go. I ordered pumpkin and the reason for 4/5 stars was the pumpkin pie was a little old. I love pumpkin pie, the taste and flavor was there, but it was a little rubbery. My husband ordered the cherry pie and it was much better. I would recommend this Diner. Good food for a good price. read more

Wow unreal .. Tasted burnt not only omelette but home fries needed put lots s/p give a taste .. An coffee forget bout it again no taste ... If ya can't make a good breakfast I can only imagine what other meals taste like glad didn't do take out for home .... An service goes right along wit taste of food . Blah .. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! This place is horrible. Food, service management all bad and the roof was leaking. Spent $45.00 on the family for lunch and none of us were even slightly satisfied. Kids got breakfast and a milkshake. Bacon was way overdone. Food was cold Waitress forgot about the milkshake. Took an hour to get the food. I overheard another group send back food because it was not even warm. Half hour later it came back wrong, and they just said forget it and left. I had a corned beef rueben and it was not edible for a dog. All fat and no meat which made it impossible to chew. I had it on wheat because they ran out of rye. I also overheard they ran out of chicken fingers and scrapple. My fries looked and had the texture of saved from the previous day, while bf's were fresh but of the same cheap shoestring variety. Why would you give the same table one crappy order and one halfway decent? He had a tuna club and for $9.00 was not worth it. While paying in line the elderly women in front tried to complain and got nowhere so I just told myself this is a learning experience and never to go here again. read more

Went in on Friday at 6pm with wife and son and no other patrons which should have raised a red flag. I ordered the hot open roast beef and wife ordered spinach and feta omelet. A young couple with 2 kids that were running rampant around the diner. The parents didn't care nor did the staff. The lady served us seemed nice but only checked on us once. I ordered an omelette and it was very mediocre. The cheese was too much and the egg was overcooked. It's not every day that you get a chance to eat in a real, authentic diner. This one sits right on Rt. 13 but you'd never know it once you're inside. The food was excellent and the service was just as good. There's a sad story attached to this diner, the longtime owner was murdered and his son has taken over running the business. He does a great job and is very appreciative to hear if you've enjoyed your meal. Take a minute and stop in with your kids and/or family. It's a great experience and meal. read more

Well if I could give this place no stars I would! Last year I had a breakfast here and I sent it back because the home fries were so greasy and tasted a week old. I was assured by a friend today that things had done a big turn around and was much better. The fact is the meal was disgusting, the hash browns were hard and rubbery and still tasted like they were three days old and cooked in rancid oil. The chipped beef had a very off taste as well, the only bright spot was a decent waitress. My recommendation is to avoid this place at all costs, a big waste of money.
