They have AMAZING sandwiches as well as a great selection of healthy foods and unique items! They have everything from socks and toothpaste to the BEST fresh produce in town, honey sticks, snacks, and drinks, they ever have sage and candles! I love this store, might be my favorite in town. What an amazing little spot in the heart of town filled with healthy goodness. Today was in need of pine nuts for a pesto and started at a local chain grocer. The selection was a fortune and looked... well bad. I stopped by our local food store and was helped quickly and kindly, the product was night and day better than the first I saw. Here is one of my favorite places on the Coast to grab a snack. The great thing about those place is that there are so many types of food here, ranging from dried fruits to sandwiches. I love to support local but i consistently have negative experiences at this store. The prices are exorbitant, the selection is meh, most everything has dairy, sugar, or both, and the checkout experience is inevitably frustrating. (Is the cashier stoned?). As a typical example of my 'down home' experience: I go in today to get a quick snack before the gym, get to the cashier, find out I need to spend $5 min to use a card, go off to try and find something nondairy and not full of sugar (not easy). I end up coming back to the end of a line. I hug a friend as I'm heading up to pay, and the cashier invites the guy behind me to come in front of me. Waiting, again. I comment how this must be my day to practice patience, and the guy who just cut in front of me looks at me with alpha-style intimidation, "what did you say?!" It would be fine if this was a one time occurrence but it's been pretty much every time. I generally avoid going and spending my money there. read more

The only reason this rating isn't a 5 is the dork with the sloppy man bun or poney tail with a plastic spoon in it that Stanely has working the cash register. First he made a comment about me taking pics, even though Stanely was very cool about it and posed for one; then he saw me waiting there to pay but continued to stock vitamins until I asked if someone was working the register; then when I was paying I noticed I still had pita bread on my list and I asked if they had it and he said in back with the bread when in fact it was right behind me. I paid, went to the back to find out it was up front, waited in line to pay again where I had to use cash because I was now under the debit card limit. I would add a star because he noticed the pita bread was moldy but I'm not because the pita bread was moldy. Additionally, I asked about the origin of the organic Meyer lemons, he said he didn't know and that Stanley did but he was on break. He never made any attempt to find out, even when he went out back to look for fresh pita bread. Overall, the store has been in operation since 1974, Stanley is a nice guy, and they have an awesome selection - see my pics. read more

Sells expired goods, are often out of stock and very rude woman in the deli - the one with all the makeup. Curt and unfriendly staff. Why bother? Go to Harvest Market where everything is always super fresh, the variety huge, the prices reasonable and often lower and the staff super nice. read more

Can't get better than this...on all levels, prices, availability and variety of health supplements, organic (and non-organic if you prefer) vegetables provided by local growers. I love this place! This is shop is a small bundle of wonderful foods, juices, bulk items, teas, candies, sandwiches, produce, supplements and there is even a deli case with cheeses. The juices they make here are fantastic, and affordable for being in this part of town. It's a huge plus that they do wheatgrass shots also. Most of the food is organic, I've purchased some tasty organic sprouts, cucumbers and avocados here that were in great condition and reasonable priced. If you buy only organic foods, you might not be able to find everything on your grocery list here. I do not own a car, I use a bicycle to get everywhere, and I purposely shop here first then go to Harvest Market if I can not find everything I need. I wish this shop were larger so there would be a larger selection, but it might loss it's magic if I become so picky. There is a few tables outside to sit down and eat your goodies. On a side of the building there is also a large community board. I recommend taking your time and really looking around the shop. It can be easy to not see something at first, for being in a small space they really do try to stuff it with fantastic products. read more

WOW! Need to remember to skip Safeway and Harvest Market and shop a lot more often at this longtime local iconic gem. When I was a kid I thought all they sold was alfalfa sprouts and hippie food. Boy, was i WRONG! I love the huge selection of smaller (therefore less expensive and less waste) house-packaged quality snacks; everything from dark chocolate covered walnuts to a Cajun snack mix. And, a superb variety of dried fruit and nuts to choose from too. I find the produce better quality and cheaper than the "big" stores including locally grown produce too. And, the best fresh-made every day sandwiches for lunch. You can get everything you need for a picnic at the beach! And remember: It's all really good quality natural stuff. Great selection of beauty products, condiments, locally made desserts and bread and so much more all in one small manageable location. I just love this place. As a local, I find it serves most all of my food needs. Amazing for such a small place. The place is more than just a place to shop, it's a gift to the community and serves as a place to always bump into local kindred spirits.
