not too shabby, I ended up here yesterday afternoon around 5 pm for a quick drink. Happy Hour is Noon to 8 Pm during the week so it is good. I also had the Grilled Chicken Wrap with Caesar dressing on the side. It was really good, kind of just big enough to get me full but it did not initially look that big. There was lettuce and tomato also on the inside, and I got it also with some onions on it. Chicken itself did taste pretty good. Still a decent crowd for a thursday afternoon, girls and Guys getting their drink on already, all shapes and sizes there for the Guys to look at. I did feel like one of the oldest people in here even yes on this thursday afternoon. Sat at 1 Am is probably prime real estate time here though. Down the hatch is one of those places that's mobbed by NYUSERS (NYU Students) and youngins out to drink heavily and be loud... So if you can't tolerate that... this is not your spot. But if you're into a decent beer selection, loud people, loud music, drinking games, and fooseball. Normal weekday nights are a bit more subdued, and sundays.... this is a big J.E.T.S.! Tiny bar with great prices. I've been to their other sister locations around the city and each have a slightly different vibe than the prior. My co-worker dragged me here on a Wednesday to enjoy their $1 pint beer on tap special and I figured to try their budget friendly wings (ended up enjoying it for the price of $9 or so). If you're going with a group of friends make sure to come early. There are a lack of tables so might be annoying to find an appropriate spot to "chill". On a better note they have beer pong like their other locations which may bring nostalgia of some good ole times in college. May be back one day but not on my go to list. read more

I took my husband here for a Sunday Brunch treat. Had always heard of this place and woke up one Sunday and decided on a whim that it was time to check it out. I couldn't pass up the $25 all you could drink and eat option 12 noon till 5 on Sundays. When we walked down the stairs and clearly into about 15 years ago, we found a bunch of 20 somethings at the bar, downing group shots, and having fun. We made our way to the middle side room, close enough to watch the craziness but a bit quieter so we could hear each other. We also had a great view of the beer pong players in yet another side room. The husband went to the bar to order our drinks and a round of food. He was gone a while because the bartenders were doing shots with some of the loud 20 somethings. The bartenders were nice, although decently buzzed, and offered a $35 option. The more expensive $35 all you can drink allowed you to choose any draft beer instead of the Bud, Bud\Coors Light, Rolling Rock option. We choose to stay cheap since mimosas were available with the cheaper option. We also ordered 2 breakfast bowls and an order of tater tots. Those of you foodies out there will be seriously disappointed in the culinary skills of the kitchen if you're expecting "brunch." Think more along the lines of deep fried Burger King French toast sticks, hash browns, and sausage links, which is exactly what I was expecting. Everything was good though - and washed down nicely with the mimosas and beers. As for the tots, a nice serving of deep fried tots helped absorb a few rounds. We did have an order of the wings, which were actually pretty good. They somehow messed up and brought out two orders instead of one, so we took some to go and found someone who looked hungry to give them to. And the kitchen is run by Atomic Wings. Another yes! It got pretty busy for a Tuesday and I was looking for a place to drink and nosh on wings. I was a bit drunk Friday night and did not make it into the bar -- however, the bouncer handled me with such care and compassion, (instead of kicking me out of line or anything like that he only said "I can't let you in sweetheart I am sorry" and made sure I made it outside safely. Shockingly, I also lost my phone that night outside of the bar. Come to find out a homeless man found it, returned it to the bar (with everything in it), and Down the Hatch handled it with care until I was able to retrieve it in person. The hospitality, service, and just kindness that I experienced when I went to pick up my phone was above and beyond. A dive bar with a few tables and a lot of open space. They only have 2 beer pong tables. However, the people who play there are pretty serious about their beer pong. There are official rules posted up next to each beer pong table in addition to a chalkboard so you can sign up for next. My partner and I ended up being undefeated for the whole night, so you can imagine how drunk I got. Some of the players were really touchy about the pong, even adjusting our cups to make sure it was "right." Sheesh. Oh wells. The cheapest pitcher was $13 (Bud/Bud Light). Also, the girls restroom only had two stalls and surprisingly, I never had to wait on line, although they did run out of TP in one of the stalls. Overall a good time. Once I made my way through that, I found my friends and felt myself transported back to college times. The vibe here is very fun, casual, and lively, with more space than it lets on from outside, cheap beer and food, and dirty bathrooms with drunk girls asking you to help them hold their hair back or unbutton their pants (yes, both happened to me, and yes, I'm used to it). I WILL NEVER GO BACK. This place used to be fun pre-pandemic. Tonight, I was turned away by the bouncer who refused to offer an explanation as to why. It was evening, and I asked him for his reasoning. Did I stumble? Slur my speech? Get hangry? Start shouting? Absolutely not. Only reason I found was he didn't like how I look, because my ethnic self was barred while my white husband was let in. I was not going to get a fair assessment either; I asked the bouncer to grab the manager whom I overheard tell him "don't worry bro, I got your back" before he even addressed me, his patron. I ended up being called names and was insulted. It was traumatizing and devastating. We were turned away and immediately welcomed by a more upscale and judgement free restaurant, Cafeteria, up the street. We had an enjoyable night there despite the disgusting treatment received at Down the Hatch. I have not been shy about sharing with my friends how a NYC nurse and paramedic couple, who supported this business throughout the pandemic, were treated here. read more

Saturday AYCE should be experienced at least one. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. With many visits, this was my first for the All You Can Eat Wings. Crazy drunk kids, cold, cheap beer and tons of wings. How could you go wrong? Sat&Sun 1-6, $23 gets you l you can eat wings with fries and 3 pitchers of beer. Doors open at noon and it's advised to show up early to get a good seat. Forget about watching or at least paying attention to a game on the plethora of TVs. The people watching, birthday balloons, flip cupping, selfies and general shenanigans will draw your attention away from more than your wing basket. The wings are ordered at the food window and the guys do a good job of rolling them out. Takes about 5 minutes and many baskets were delivered directly to me without having to wait around. The flavor was good and better than expected for AYCE pace. I left full and buzzed on fun and light beer. The team behind the bar does a great job of taking care of those who say their Ps & Qs, tip and follow the rules. Equally the staff keeps the troublemakers in line so be GOOD and get treated well. Funny how things worked out...came here with a friend of mine after we had some burgers earlier in the night. While looking for a spot to have some drinks afterwards she asked if I had ever been to Down the Hatch, which I hadn't prior. We end up going to Down the Hatch and had a beer or two. Come to find out one of old co-workers from back in the day Tommy has been working at the bar for several years and I randomly had recognized him. We caught up for a few minutes and he treated me and my friend to some whiskey shots. Cool, dope night and will definitely come here again in the near future. Fun spot, good happy hour specials, cool crowd. Down the Hatch is owned by the same people who own 3 Sheets Saloon and Stumble Inn. Would give a 0 if possible. Went in around 5:30 pm and was greeted with the rudest bartender who was rude when we didn't great them when we walked in. He yelled at us for our IDs and said it was unacceptable that we didn't ask him how he was doing. My friend ordered a vodka soda and he gave her a high noon and said it was "the same as a vodka soda just in a can without ice". A high noon is very much not a vodka soda. I've been here a few times and I'm surprised I haven't write a review fur this place yet. During the summer it's a lot of fun, and at every other time, you can definitely tell that there are a lot of nyu students here. The atmosphere of this place is pretty divey. For gods sake you almost don't even see it when you're winning down the street. It's slightly below ground level. The inside is dark but filled with a lot of tvs playing various sports events. There are some tables, but they're hard to come by, so if you want one you have to come early. How early? Beats me, I've never gotten one, and the earliest I've been there is 7 so I guess before that. The tables are small though, only for a few people at most. They have beer pong in the back, and a chalkboard to keep track of who had next, so that's pretty cool. Pitcher prices are decent, but definitely not the best in the area. Depending on the beer could be around the 16 to 25 dollar range. The good thing about this place are the specials. On Saturday they have dollar beers from 8pm to 9pm. The cups are smaller than normal, maybe 12 oz cups, but hey, how can you beat that price? Additionally it's not just bud light, they also have rolling rock and shocktop. Sunday's they have unlimited wings and 3 pitchers of beer for 23 per person. Damn. Good deal bro. Overall my friends and I always end up here if were going out to the west village. Would give 0 stars if possible. Came here last night to finish off the evening celebrating my birthday, and had a horrible experience with the bouncer. I had a friend with me visiting NYC who was also from North Carolina, and the bouncer let her in but claimed my ID was fake. I told him I just turned 25 and showed him my credit card to match the ID name, but he refused to allow me in the bar and became extremely hostile and rude. I asked what other documentation I could possibly provide him to get him to let me in, and he said nothing would get me into the bar and that I needed to "get out" immediately. Another friend asked to speak to a manager, and the bouncer became even ruder and claimed that he was the manager, which was clearly a lie. He was so rude to the point I left in tears, and it was especially upsetting that he let my white friend in with the same exact ID type I had but refused to allow me into the bar. The group left very upset after having our night and my birthday celebration ruined. I feel bad writing this review because I'm sure the owner of this bar and the other employees are lovely, hardworking people, but the bouncer's blatant racism and rudeness were absolutely vile and should not be excused. What a great vibe! This is a little hole in the wall that you have to walk down into to get to so you are essentially in the basement. Plastic dividers between tables for covid-friendly seating, but the music was bumping and the lights made a great vide. Beer and wings are solid. Only complaints is that our waitress was nowhere to be found at times but it was pretty busy, and beware of any tables next to windows as this place draws the larges flies I've ever seen... we let our waitress know who then sprayed them with some substance that seemed to kill them, and got free shots out of the disturbance. read more

Their menu is pretty much the same everywhere. My favorites are the Pulled Pork Nachos and Wings. The nachos have Cheese, Onions and BBQ Sauce with some Jalapeño. The have a nice balance of meat. I can't believe I never came here when I went to NYU but now have come here twice in my adult life. It's your typical NYC college divey bar. The space is actually deceivingly bigger than one would think, with two beer pong tables in the back and seating throughout. It's casual and carefree. Their drinks are priced averagely during non-happy hour times. I've ordered a couple of snacks here, including tater tots and mozzarella sticks. Both do the job of fried junk food but a little overpriced for how much they give I personally think. Their wings though are delicious as it is supplied by atomic wings. I had a 3 hour open bar for my birthday at Down the hatch and it was amazing. The security guards were very nice and welcoming when getting the bracelets for the open bar making the process go smoothly. The bartenders and manager were great the whole night with making sure everyone had a drink in there hand! The bartenders were quick to refill and get drinks out in a timely manner so there would be no line at the bar. The manager that night was more than generous to provide us with food on the house, a round of shots, a birthday cup and a shirt for myself. It's a small classic looked bar with seating so you might think it's just a regular old bar You can go to , but the food (the wings ) are definitely worth the trip back. It's mainly a bar so you must be over 21 to even enter. I got seated with my friend and the waitress was inconsistent and it took us almost 10 minutes to even place an order which was Inconvenient and ran up our patience . Nevertheless the fast time it took for the food to arrive made up for it and ultimately was worth it. I ordered a double order of wings (hot) and a large order of waffle fries to split up with my friend. That's all we needed because not only was the food amazing , but extremely filling. The wings comes in different flavors and level of spices (including mild, hot, abusive , suicidal , and bite me ) and I decided to go with hot because the others sound painfully hot. But the hot , was very hot and wasn't expected for that to happen. The kick hits you and your lips feel the impact immediately , which is so worth it , but just wasn't expecting it . The waffle fries are large and you can practically get full fro them, all crisp and tasty. This small little tavern (I guess is a more appropriate term) is definitely worth the time and is a great place for a quick bite (despite the slow waitress my stay was less than than 45 minutes). The wings and excellent , flavorful and has a kick to it that's worth it . The fries are huge and will definitely be worth the order . The food isn't anything life changing but when you're drinking from 12pm - 5pm, tater tots and wings will always hit the spot. All the drinks were half off, and the bar was nearly empty. We got onion rings and tater tots, standard bar food. The drinks were half price and the vibe was very low-key and casual. I could imagine it is a fun collegey bar to come to at night. Looking around at the crowd, it was hard to find people who looked older than 25. This small bar is decorated nicely with Christmas lights on the ceiling. Its under an apartment building so is easy to miss when driving. I suggest taxi or subway. Good music vibes and they run a tight ship, there was a bunch of belligerent drunks ruining everyone's time stomping around dancing if that's what they wanted to call it. The bouncer promptly gave then a loud verbal warning to stop or be kicked out. Within the next 15 minutes the entire crew and the people participating in the stompery were gone.
