We've used Downey Exterminators a few times over the past few years when buying and selling homes. Not only is someone quick to come over for estimates, their quotes are usually very competitive with other companies. Another added benefit is that they give you a year warranty in case any critters come back. On this recent purchase, there was a lot of dry rot damage that needed to be fixed. Not only did they treat the areas, the parts that had extensive damage were replaced with similar wood and painted to match the other areas. I know not all companies will do a complete fix after the treatment, but they do! Everything was super easy to schedule and Karen in their main office is communicative if you have any questions along the way. I am so thankful to have found Downey Exterminators. I wish I could find more establishments like this one. I was in a pinch. The termite vendor who previously inspected my listing in Downey knew that we had a short escrow period. Work would need to be scheduled the following week. After accepting the inspection fee from me and inspecting the property, they produced a report and then told me they could fit us in three weeks later. Say what?!?!? So I google searched and scoured Yelp for a vendor to no avail. Just when I was about to throw in the towel, I made one more call and Laura at Downey Exterminators answered the call. In every sense of the word, she "answered" the call! Laura is the consummate professional. From the minute she answered the call, I knew that I was in great hands. Initially, I was told they were booked but Laura double checked to see if there might be a cancellation. Thankfully, there was and she immediately booked an inspection and scheduled the section 1 work. We were in a time crunch. Having Downey Exterminators on our team helped our transaction move as smoothly as possible. As many times as I checked in for the benefit of the other side of the transaction, Laura was always gracious. Highly disappointed in this company. This company was referred to me by a fellow realtor. The guy came out and did the inspection. He was a nice guy. When he was finished he told me I would have the report emailed to me the next day. Long story short I never received the report. I called the office 3 days later and the lady I spoke to over the phone said she had 2 other calls so she took my number down but never returned my call. Next day I called back to follow up on the report. After basically spelling out my email to her twice she said she would send me the report right away. Never received it. I wouldn't recommend this company based on the horrible customer service or lack of by the person in the office. read more

Since we were home during COVID we noticed what we suspected were termite droppings piled up on our couch. We called Downey Exterminators and their inspector was very thorough in identifying the infested areas. He wore mask & gloves and was conscious about keeping distance protocols. They gave us excellent directions and all of the bags needed to double up our food & perishables. When the tenting crew arrived, they followed all safety measures. I don't think they understand that now-a-days people can review them and other potential customers will either hire them or not based on their reviews by other "customers". Let me start and finish by saying they damaged my house and didn't say anything until I saw the damage myself. They tried to say they didn't do it but they a filled with lies. Their lack of customer service and whoever picks up the phone is a image of the work that will be done in your home don't believe me? Look at the pictures ive posted. One last thing. One of the pictures on their yelp post says free estimate. What they said to me was the estimate is only free if we use their services. What a load of crap!! read more

I can only give one star because the way the owner of the company handled it was great. The reason why they don't get more stars is because one of the workers damaged our flooring and attic entrance frame while doing extermination work for termites. (Again, the owner resolved it by offering us either a credit or a repair) One of their workers came to our home to do the repair and while being asked a few questions, he decided to give my husband an attitude. He was told to leave our home promptly. (Yes, my husband threw in a bad word while he told him to get the _____ out of there) The worker, then, left and walked NOT to his car but to my husband's car. He started to act shady and didn't realize that my husband was watching him. When he noticed that my husband was right there, he scurried his way to his own car and tried to act like he wasn't trying to do anything. (Keep in mind that this worker is the one who damaged the flooring and the attic entrance frame.... talk about not being to resolve issues properly) Do not use their services unless you want to deal with having a threat made to you. . Yes, i said THREAT. I failed to mention earlier that after the worker left the house and before he tried to do something to my husband's car, he walked back into the house and told my husband, "you'd better watch your mouth, bro.." Hence, the reason why my husband felt the need to watch this guy while he proceeded to leave. How are you going to be told to leave, then you exit and then go back and enter that person's home again without permission, threaten someone and then try to do something to their car? Wow. ... Good job, BRO! Anyway, I would to like to mention that the woman in the office is also quite rude. She likes to speak to you in a way that makes you feel stupid. The owner is great, though. Will not let me post with no star, so ignore the one star. Be aware, false advertising in Downey Herald. Called to confirm that they do free termite inspection as noted in their ad, they said yes and scheduled an appointment. When the guy came he said they charge $99 for it. Told him of my call and he called their office and came back which now said that the inspection is free, but to know the result there's a charge of 95 dollars. Don't make sense, why inspect if you have to pay to know if you have any termite or not. I called again and the guy this time did the inspection for free, but will email you the result. One week pass no email, called Laura said she will email, nothing still. Wow! can't believe it. They said to go local, to help small business in your area, but with this kind of service make you want to think twice. Just be honest, hope the owner is aware. read more

To the bad reviews before me. My mom always said, unless it's food, people will only write a review when it's bad. You will get more with sugar than you will with vinegar. Let that be a life lesson to live by. Also, people employed by a company are not be be referred as "workers" they are "employees." Now, to everyone else. The service here is simply AMAZING. We purchased our home in September 2014. There was major dry rot around every single window. With a 936 sq ft house and 15 windows, that's A LOT!! Escrow called Downey Exterminators (DE) to clear the termite report. With an FHA loan we needed a passing termite report. They came, did the job and told us they stand behind their work 100%. As a new homeowner, we left everything in the garage. I promise, every time I went in there, I felt gross. Filled with spiders and little pebbles. I had NO clue what these pebbles were. I started to look around and noticed some areas were missed when DE came out, and there were termite droppings around the garage window. I called DE and set a time for someone to come out and take a look. They covered the damage visible under warranty. With a small miscommunication between the inspector, me and the office a lot got confusing. However, Laura was amazing with communication and eager to get through our problem. They went ABOVE AND BEYOND what my warranty covered and I'm forever grateful. I don't want to go into details as to what they did for me and my family (so people don't put pressure on them to do what they did for me), but it was too much I can ask for. Yes we ended up paying out of our pocket, but I wouldn't imagine having anyone else doing it.... Not even our family handyman. -- the crew has been working on my garage by replacing and/or reenforcing every single termite damaged wood for 3days (in the rain). In addition, 1 day prior to our miscommunication. To Low (and I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong) thank you for explaining every thing to us.
