Downey, family dental has been a great experience. After many years of being frightened and scared of visiting the dentist, I had excruciating pain that was occurring due to a broken tooth. I stopped by to get x-rays and have my teeth exam and I was getting ready to hear a lot of bad news. Knowing that I had not visited the dentist in about 8 to 10 years I knew that there would be work that would be needed to be completed.. The dentist was very helpful with letting me know the severity of it, but at the same time showed optimism and made me feel comfortable. Not only are we looking into the repairment of my tooth but also he explained to me the things that would be needed to be done in order to restore my teeth. I had plaque built up and my gums were very swollen with numbers high as fives and six which is not great and he explained to me that it would take a few appointments of deep cleaning and laser treatment in order to restore them. The appointments that I've had with them have been painless, and they have always made me feel comfortable while visiting them. This really helped me overcome my fear of visiting in the dentist and I actually do look forward to seeing them for my next appointment. My husband & I had such an amazing experience at this dental office! From the moment we walked in, everything felt welcoming, clean, and well organized. The front office staff were incredibly professional and helpful . they took the time to clearly explain our dental benefits and made the entire process stress-free. The dental assistants were so kind and caring while taking our X-rays. They were gentle, friendly, and made us feel completely comfortable. Both of The Doctors ( Dr.Nguy & Dr.No) were absolutely wonderful! not only knowledgeable and professional, but also hilarious! There was a fun little rivalry between one being a proud alum of UCLA and the other from USC which made the visit even more enjoyable and hilarious . You can tell they genuinely care about their patients and about the work they do. Overall, such a positive experience. I'm glad I didn't get discouraged when I personally went on a Tuesday, but they were closed. Two days later, I walked in on and everything was so pleasant. Jessica front counter checked us in and was very welcoming. My daughter was seen same day on the spot and able to be treated. They told me I had to pay out of pocket first and they will reach out to my insurance company to see what will my insurance cover. I was told i will get reimburse once they spoke to my insurance. Several weeks go by, I'm talking about maybe 2 months and I call them to ask about my insurance. The lady who answered told me that there was no claim submitted. But that she will submit the claim and if I didn't hear back from them then to call back in 2 weeks. Again a few weeks go by and I still haven't heard back from them. I call back and the lady who answered was rude. I explained to her what happened and she didn't even apologize or anything. She simply said yes we owe you $121.60 Really bad experience. It's not my job to be behind you to remind you to do your job. It's your responsibility to follow up with insurance/patients. Meaning if I didn't call back to ask they wouldn't have open the claim or refund me my money. They didn't care because they had already charged me for the filling. I paid $152 on March 10!! They processed my "refund" on May 18!! read more

This review is long over due!! Prior to coming here, I have not been to the dentist for over 5 years. I never flossed and didn't brush well, and my teeth and gums have definitely seen better days. I wanted to start my Invisalign journey, but couldn't without getting my teeth back in shape. I committed and started coming every appointment and I wish I started sooner. A few months in I definitely felt my teeth and gums getting better. They provided me with instructions to properly clean and floss everyday and a year later my teeth have never been better. My gums went from being extremely sensitive and red to pink and no pain at all! My teeth are also noticeably whiter than before! Today was my third visit to Downey Family Dental. All three visits have been pleasant, but my good experience started with the initial call. The receptionist is very pleasant and helpful; she explains things well and listens, she caught my comment about requesting HSA reimbursement and made sure to provide the correct detailed receipt. Today was the second part of my deep cleaning with Phoebe. She made me feel at ease, explained well, and just made the overall experience a good one. Phoebe made sure I was comfortable throughout the process, making sure I wasn't feeling pain or discomfort. I truly appreciated it, as that's my biggest fear, feeling pain. After the cleaning both times she explained about potential symptoms (e.g., gum bleeding) which never materialized. I know everyone is different, but for someone like me that comes up with any excuse to avoid the dentist, this experience with Phoebe has definitely given me a different outlook go-forward. read more

Good ole bait n switch. I called for a check up and deep cleaning. Jessica said they can do it and scheduled me right away. Went in, did the check up, but then advised me that they need preauth despite advising them my plan didn't require it. They wouldn't let it go despite my persistence. I called my insurance company and confirmed they were mistaken. Waste of time. Equipment (CT scan) was faulty, as it kept giving us errors. They kept apologizing.
