I have been coming here for over three years. In that time the quality has gone drastically down. It was really great in the beginning. They changed dentists and some staff and it is not the same anymore. Wait times are ridiculous. They are overbooked. We had an appointment at eleven and didn't get seen by dentist until after 12. That's unacceptable and shows lack of consideration of the patient and our time. Then the dentist came in and got defensive when confronted about a situation.. I was made to feel like I was being the parent that is crazy. I'll take my business elsewhere. . I am pretty patient and understanding. But not when I'm made to be the problem. read more

This was my first time having any form of surgery and they made sure it wasn't terrifying. I thought a lot about posting a review but I unfortunately can't stop thinking about my experience at this dental office. I arrived at 9:15 and didn't leave until 12:30. Over 3 hours for a set of x rays and deep cleaning. Part of the 3 hours included meeting with the "health coordinator" to go over pricing as I'm in the dental exam room, who I felt pressured by to continue with the services that were recommended. I ended up paying 726 dollars with insurance for a deep cleaning. I've never paid that much for a cleaning in my life and it felt wrong. It is a bummer because the dentist, assistant and hygienist were all very nice and knowledgeable , it was just overall a poor experience. read more

This place is grossly overbooked now. Customer service at the front is abysmal- at least this seems to be the case for one of the female receptionists who greets you with a poor attitude. I feel bad that she feels she needs to show her anger so blatantly. This was the first red flag that giving this place a second chance was a bad idea. (I began worrying about their billing practices prior to this experience, but that's another yelp review) Came in at 12:40 for a 1:00pm appointment. At 1:15 we began noticing people who just sat down to wait, be seen. At 1:25 we asked for an estimated wait time as we had an ortho appointment up next. 10 minutes later, they let us know I'd be 20 more minutes. We did not get seen until close to their closing time. They found one small cavity and they said they wouldn't have time to fill it. Over two hours of waiting just for a 10 second cleaning and overpriced X-rays. So now we must take more time off for a second appointment and are about to miss our orthodontist appointment due to their greedy need to see so many new patients. Patients who I suspect are drawn in due to their yelp reviews-which I now suspect must be fictional and purchased with the very few exemptions such as the one attached below. read more

When this place was new or start up, it was pretty good because I didn't feel like I was at a dental office and had to be hyper vigilant about them charging me for things I didn't need. No long waiting times either. But after going back in the past year there are different people working there and I sense that they will find something wrong even if it doesn't make sense that there would be anything wrong if you constantly brush and floss your teeth. So I don't recommend this place anymore. The one advantage is if you need a crown it takes them the same day to make the mold so you don't have to come back weeks later. read more

Breaking down my review into two parts: Regular check-ups: I've been coming to Downey Modern Dentistry for a bit now, and the team has been awesome. I see Dr. Le Wen Ma, and she's been awesome. There's even been a time where I had a toothache and staining from a tight nook in between my teeth, and they squeezed me in for an emergency appointment to check it out and ensure everything is alright. Wisdom teeth removal: This past week, I had to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. I was putting it off for as long as I could, but it was time because my teeth were impacted. They had availability for the very next week, but I scheduled later on. I was especially nervous going under since I'm diabetic and have to keep on eye on my insulin and blood sugar levels, but Dr. Marhabi and his team talked to me on the phone beforehand and eased my nerves. The hygienist Marie was the true standout: gentle, compassionate, and incredibly skilled. She changed how I feel about dental care. I never thought I'd say this, but I had a great day at the dentist. After almost a decade of avoiding dental visits, I finally went in because of a bleeding gum. I expected pain, judgment, and discomfort, but what I got was warmth, professionalism, and even comfort. The receptionist (a beautiful, kind woman whose name I wish I'd caught) greeted me with amazing customer service. The assistant who took me for X-rays was sweet and non-judgmental, and the tech they used was impressive: 3D imaging, intraoral cameras, and more. Dr. Desar was direct but kind. She explained everything clearly, measured my gums, and started me on a treatment plan, all while making sure I felt safe and respected. No judgment, just care. But the true star of the visit was Marie, the hygienist. She is gentle, compassionate, and incredibly skilled. I didn't even need anesthesia during my deep cleaning--and I nearly felt NOTHING, seriously. Her touch is light, but her impact is huge. MA and her assistant Julie. both times I have felt comfortable, safe, and well informed during any procedure and dental check ups I get done by her. Very disappointed with this dental office. I had been going there for the past 2-3 years for my cleaning and dental needs. At first I was impressed with their new office and modern equipment that ai saw when I first visited the office. I got my 3D x-ray scan, cleaning and visual inspection by their Dentist. All went well so I returned every six months for cleaning and had a crown and filling work done Well this week I woke up with pain in one of my wisdom teeth, so I made an appointment. When I showed up to the office today, I found out that the dentist and oral hygienist were no longer working for them. I was not notified:( they assigned me a new hygienist and dentist. All went well with cleaning, x-rays and visual dentist inspection. I was told that I needed a filling, a crown on a chipped tooth and a wisdom tooth removed. I told the dentist that I just wanted a regular crown and did not desire to fork out the extra cash for the circonia crown she "recommended ". I was told that the person from the front desk would schedule an appointment and give me a quote on the cost of dental work needed. Lady came and I told her that I just wanted a regular crown....she stated that they would not be able to put in a regular crown and that I must pay for the higher priced circonia crown because that what the dentist "recommended " The I asked to schedule a date soon to have the loose wisdom tooth and I was told that the surgeon who performs that procedure is only in Once a week in the morning only. How hard can it be to pull a tooth out. Don't they train these dentist for that? This is the second time that I ask for something and twas told that they don't have anyone on-staff to do the work and one must wait for a surgeon who comes to their office once or twice a month. Needless to say that I will not be going back and will not recommend you to look for a more stablished dental office where the dentist will not be rotated and where it feels like high price procedures are pushed on to the clients. read more

Customer service. Wait times. Quality of services. Appointment scheduled at 2pm. Arrived 10 minutes early and the receptionist was nice and greeted us immediately. I completed the pre-checkin from home. It was 2:20pm and we still weren't being serviced. Shortly after, the dental assistant (Roxanne) came over and didn't even introduce herself. She just walked us over to the room. I only knew her name and position because of the name tags they wear. She told us that she will be performing the service and then the X-rays will be taken. To my understanding, every time I went to a dental appointment the X-rays are taken before any services. I told her that I wanted my child to be seen and serviced by the ACTUAL dentist. She rolled her eyes and said, "ok" and walked away.. We waited another 10 minutes then the X-rays where taken. Another 15 mins later the dentist (Anika) finally arrived. She was informative going over the images and explaining to my child the proper way to brush and floss to avoid cavities. When I received the invoice, the prices were ridiculous. There was a charge for 'oral hygiene instructions'. To be honest, I was coming to this location for a few years and never had an issue BUT today was very different. My experience has been great! I came in as an emergency wisdom tooth infection. I was greeted by Tina and when I say she took my process with much care. I've been to this dental office several times. Anytime I come in, I'm greeted warmly by anyone who's in at the time. Nichole and Tina are usually the ones helping me in the front. They are very accommodating and understanding. I've had several people help me in the back while getting checked. All of them have been great and do such a good job to make sure you're in good hands. I'm usually a little nervous to come into Dentist offices but people like Cesar, Sully, Pearl, Bri, and Roxana make my life a lot easier. It's easy to come back to an office that makes you very comfortable to be there. I've been to quite a few dental offices and haven't had the same positive experiences as I've had coming to this one. My dentist is Dr. Anika, she does a great job helping me maintain proper dental hygiene. I'm not good with all the terminology but she does a good job of explaining things in practical terms. I've gotten cleanings and a procedure done from her, all have went well. Her attention to detail is second to none. I have also met Dr. Ma and Dr. Pessah in passing who seem great as well. I had been avoiding the dentist for a couple of years due to some bad experiences before then. I have to say that I have never felt more comfortable and taken care of at any other clinic. So far, I have had a tooth extraction and a deep cleaning, and I can honestly say they were pleasant experiences. I went in for a routine new patient cleaning and requested a mouth guard. While this appointment took 2hrs and what felt like a sales pitch the whole time to remove my wisdom tooth. When I declined offers the doctor came to "clean" my teeth. The cleaning itself took less than 10 min. I later had to follow up on my mouth guard a couple weeks later, but they of course wanted to schedule a whole routine appointment just for my guard fitting. As I no longer wanted to deal with them they took my $56 for the guard and when I've requested for them to mail me my mouth guard they have yet to do so. It has been 9 months since that visit and I will never return as they are unprofessional dental sales group. They take your money, and never provide you with the items you paid for. However, life tragedy hit and I spent 15 years without the ability to have dental care. Hi Yelp! I hope this review can help some of you who have a childhood trauma like I DID until Dr. Pessah and her staff took care of me! If you have anything that needs to be done regarding your teeth, you want to see Dr. Pessah and her staff, hands down, just do it! I came here for a chipped molar and I knew that I had a lot of others things to take care of, from deep cleaning to replacing some silver fillings. I had a childhood trauma that honestly made me shake when I will sit in the dentist's chair, I explained this to Dr. Pessah and her assistant Aglaiel, she was really understanding and super gentle, her hands are soft and gentle as clouds (imagine a cloud!), she explained in detail what needed to be done and what needed to be prioritized so we can work with my budget. Procedure: Potential root canals and for sure some crowns (yes, I mentioned that I had really bad oral hygiene, don't judge me!), she started the procedure with anesthesia, a little pinch that's all I can associate with pain, Dr. Pessah was checking on me every other minute, she is caring and super amazing, she took care of everything that needed to be done in a timely manner, she was respectful of my time, my feelings, my history and made me feel cared, she is not only a doctor, but she is also an angel. Deep Cleaning: Andrea was phenomenal, she told me that I will feel a little discomfort for a bit, I don't recall feeling a thing! Andrea was checking on me every 2 mins to make sure that I was doing ok and that no pain was present during the cleaning, believe me when I tell you this, a big 270lbs guy with a long beard was being asked all the time if I'm doing ok made me feel like a kid again! I recently had a situation that required immediate attention and the team at Downey Modern Dentistry was stellar - I was able to book an appointment same day for a check up. Dr Mow clearly explained the problem and set up my treatment. Sonia the office manager was able to work with my schedule and squeeze me in for a visit with a specialist. Roxanna took special care to make sure my temporary and permanent crown fit just right - she made a big difference. I've also had bad experiences at other offices with rough hygienists (that were most likely torture specialists in a previous career) but Marie made sure it was a smooth, pain-free process for me.
