My uncle Dennis has been staying here for almost 4 years and he recently passed, he had a wonderful experience being there. A big shout-out to an amazing staff all the caregivers and front office, I have to mention Brandie has been amazing from day one when I was looking for a new facility, she is very professional, she made the process very easy. The staff is respectful/professional and most of all they have great empathy caring for my uncle. The facility offers all activities, all residents has a private room. The nursing team is amazing, a huge shout-out to the Nursing Director Arlene Barajas she truly cares for all the residents with compassion, she has gone far and beyond the duties of nursing care. This is one the best assisted living facilities in the area. If your loved one needs a private pay or assisted living waiver program, this is the place. It's clean, smells good and staff is always friendly. There private rooms and shared rooms are gorgeous. They also have a memory care. They offfer activities and outings. I chose Downey Retirement because of the Marketing Director. JOEY DELGADO and the staff who made me feel welcomed. Also due to the activities they have in place for their Oasis clientele. My LO had been in a larger facility where I felt he didnt receive the hands on care that I want him to have. My father was living back in 2012 he has now passed. This place is definitely a place where I am planning for my mother to be when needed. Recently we had to make the hardest decision to find a long-term living place for family member. It was a nice feeling from the get go. The staff, first Joey along with all administration are caring and very attentive. They also allowed us to decorate the space beautifully for mom. Her room is private and very spacious along with all staff from food, caregivers, nurses and in house doctors are terrific. I highly recommend Downey Retirement Center. read more

I'm very grateful for the support the Downey Retirement Center has offered in respect to my Mother. I have been very open minded about her staying here and I've spoken to the Director and various staff, all show the best interest for the resident. They have provided in depth information about how they operate and the rules of the program while being a resident. I constantly have communication with my Mother and visit her. Great leadership and administration. Your love one(s) will be taken care of here, especially with Mary, Michelle, and Nancy leading the staff. They listen to feedback and make changes. Very friendly and family oriented. Food selection can improve but most important, great care and excellent COVID prevention. I have a family member staying here. And let me say I was really close to having them moved to a different home due to the management. But I am going to say that there has been major improvements now that some of the management has changed. This lady Mary is doing a great job turning things around for the better. It's unfortunate that my relative has had to live here. It has really declined over the last few years, management is impossible to reach would be the biggest complaint. When asked for the manager's contact information, Adam, I was turned down. How is it possible I cannot reach the person in charge when my loved one is a resident and depends on their care. When promised a call back I would never hear back. This has happened with multiple staff members after multiple calls. This place could really use a make over as it is dirty and broken down. The phone system frequently is down as well which further complicates communication. read more

I am disappointed to say that this is probably one of the worst retirement centers my grandfather was placed in. Thankfully, he lives with my family at the moment but during the time he was at this retirement center... oh, boy. Worse experience ever for him. The food is "terribly disgusting" as said by himself. If you're going to make food for old people, why not make it healthy and delicious? Serving frozen chicken nuggets and disgusting left overs from the day before is not a healthy meal. He also talked to me about how some of the caretakers were rude and they didn't really interact as much with him and the rest of the people living there. No games, no fun, nothing. Just a bunch of old people sitting down doing nothing. Make it exciting! This is in Downey, Ca. Downey is such a beautiful city to live in. Why is a retirement center as crappy as this one even in existence? Why do they not have better food or better yet, a BETTER cook? Something has to be done with this place because it honestly sucks. I do not recommend it at all for anyone looking to place their relatives in here. read more

I have done my high school volunteer hours here at The Downey Retirement Center quite a few times to help with the elderly and I can say it is such a great welcoming atmosphere there. I did not feel uncomfortable at all, all of the employees are very positive and super nice to everyone. What I loved about it the most, is how much they do for the elderly. They had a beautiful thanksgiving dinner set up for them and It was the most lovely thing to witness while helping volunteer. read more

I have been to this community before the new management has come in and can see the difference already and excited to see the positive changes take place also to Hear the plans they have for the community , as a senior living professional i can appreciate the hard work the NEW Management is putting in to transform this community. Clearly from one of the post below there are some ghetto (ghetto is a understatement for that person ) they are one of the ones that needs to go!!! In my almost 9 years of senior living management it's the same routine with those employees( the ones that need to move along) they wine and complain and point the fingers at the new management because now they are being held accountable !!!! This place is disgusting! There is absolutely no type of management and when you are first given a tour all they do is give you empty promises. During the time that my mother in law stayed in that place there were only but 2 caregivers working the floors, and to top it off their broken english made it hard to communicate. Every single time my mother in law required their attention all they did was shrug her off and mumble in their native language as if they were bothered. They never had any activities and the food YUCK!, seems like animals eat better than the residents there. overall I would NEVER recommend that place, if anything please dont take your elderly there. i really do hope they shut that place soon. read more
