The Villa is an amazing place. My dad lived there for 5 years before his passing. The Spanish style house reminded him of his home. When my dad entered the Villa he had a stroke and was not able to walk but staff had him on a exercise routine and in no time he was able to use his walker to get around again. The environment was comfortable for his friends to visit like at his home. It is a very clean and manicured place. They have a cook for daily meals and David and Issac were very loving to my father. I was comfortable leaving my dad there giving me peace of mind and I am eternally grateful to the Villa. read more

We had to place a family member at the Villa due to aging & other complicated health issues. Dave has been very responsive to our questions & concerns during & after the admissions process. We were also very delighted to see that the owners took a lot of pride in making different & fun foods for the patients. We like that we can communicate via text/call very easily. There were recent improvements to the facility and we were contacted regarding that as well , in terms of scheduling and comfort. As much as we dont want to put our loved ones in the care of others, when they get too sick for us to manage on our own, we MUST do whats best for them. Getting older and not being in the best health is VERY hard on Families and those individuals that need to be cared for... When all roads lead to needing outside assistance to care for your loved one, you pray for the right environment/facility will cross your path. When insurance does not cover everything that you would hope it could, you have to keep searching for the right fit. Sometimes the right fit is right in your own backyard. Being a Downey resident for 50yrs, I've passed many times by the home on the corner of Downey Ave/Imperial Hwy with a banner that says "THE VILLA The Ultimate in Elderly Assisted Living With Personal Home Care". After going through insurance suggestions on places they cover and being totally disappointed and frustrated with the service of care I saw at these facilities, i decided to check out privately owned facilities. I AM SO HAPPY I DID! The staff at The Villa had given me so much information on long term care, that people are not prepared for as they get old. I enjoyed talking to David Kim and I made an appointment to come in and check out the facility for myself. Once i pulled up to the gate, i called to let the staff know that I was there to tour the grounds. The gate opened and I parked my car behind the security gate. This place seemed Very Peaceful. They had the right name for this place. The Villa. Looks like a small Spanish style home with lil bungalows. It is on a very busy corner but the tall trees that line Imperial Hwy seem to block a lot of the traffic sound out and the entire property has a security gate and cameras for safety. Once inside, it felt like HOME. There was 3 residents in the tv room. There was a woman in the living room right off the entrance, listening to talk radio on her portable radio. I guess we just missed lunch. The facility smelled like thanksgiving. That was a nice surprise because all the other facilities we visited smelled like urine and felt like an institution. After the tour, we got to talking about finances and patient care. The patient to caregiver ratio was just what we were looking for. I believe they told us that there was a 15patient maximum and that seemed so much better than the massive care facilities that seem to over look patients and let them fall through the cracks. As far as the monthly charge for care, it was more than we expected but we weighed the service of care, the home cooked meals, the location to us, the family environment and respect we saw the staff have for the patients VS. a dollar amount... It was worth the dollar amount they asked for because the staff at The Villa, eased our mind about who we were leaving our loved one with. They were upfront and honest about issues that could arise during his stay. We appreciated all the communication and emotional care the staff at The Villa had with me and my family. My loved one, was a very sick man. Once he was enrolled as a resident, soon after he needed hospice care. The staff at The Villa and the Hospice staff worked really well together and that took a lot of pressure off of me and my Loved one they were caring for. Unfortunately my Loved one didn't make it. He had a stroke and died 3 days later. My partner of 40 yrs was so lucky to have spent his last days at The Villa Senior Assisted Living. He made friends with the other residents and the staff. He ate well and was happier than i could have hoped for. We are sooo GRATEFUL to the caregivers at The Villa and the staff at Evergreen Hospice care. I cannot say enough about the care my uncle receives at The Villa Assisted Living Home in Downey. The health caregivers David, Issac, Corine, and the site administrator provide care I would appreciate for myself. The Villa Assisted Living is a hidden gem in Downey. My uncle, who tends to complain about the quality of healthcare from prior facilities, has nothing but high praise for the staff at the Villa. Issac, David, Corine and staff work tirelessly to care for my uncle and the home's other patients. It is not unusual to see a team of physical therapists, RNs, LVNs and grooming staff attend to the needs of the patients throughout the day. The ambiance is peaceful and the garden is a harmonious setting for enjoying a meal with a loved one. I had to place my grandmother in a home and after looking into a few places. Only one stood out to me and that was The Villa. They answered all my questions without me even having to ask. My grandmother has been there for a few months and they have been amazing to me and her. They communicate often and even my grandmother says they are so nice to her. My mom was here for a little over a year. The Manager (Corrine) always made sure she was well taken care of and went the extra mile. My mom's room was clean and bright. The living room was spacious with lots of windows and there was a patio area where you can sit and visit or have a meal. The food was always freshly made my the caregivers. These people are wonderful. And, by the way, Corrine is the secret weapon that make this place as good as it is. This is not her "job." Being the person who makes sure these fragile, frail people are well cared-for is who she is. My mom had a number of physical problems...AND dementia. The big assisted living places, with their revolving door staff problems, just weren't working. I'd get phone calls from staff asking me to tell my mother to be nicer to people. Hello? She had DEMENTIA. She didn't know her address, her phone number, her age, or whether it was day or night. She was scared and anxious and the big places wanted her to be briefed on etiquette? At The Villa, the level of acceptance was incredible. They...especially Corrine, the director, but the others, too...would find an approach that would work. Without being mean or abusive, they helped my mom decide to cooperate with taking her meds and taking showers. (At previous facilities, they'd ask, "Do you want your shower now?" Mom, like any two-year-old, would say, "No." And the worker would write "refused shower," which made for an easier work day...and a smelly woman more likely to get infections.) This is NOT the place for a parent who is a little forgetful, but still interested in group outings and who just needs a little help. And, truth be told, it has a somewhat puzzling floorplan because it was a single-family reidence that kept growing. But once your loved one needs more help than can be provided by family and is no longer able to function without constant supervision, THIS IS THE PLACE. Mom was in hospice...The Villa is licensed for hospice patients...and died eleven days ago. During those last days, staff at The Villa knew when to call the hospice nurse, how to help with her nebulizer and oxygen, how to be there and let her know her needs would be met. And they gave us--my mother's family--peace of mind. ETA...I should say something nice about the owner, David Kim. So...he's nice. And he does listen. And if he's the guy who hired the staff, he's a genius. read more

I noticed how busy the employees were running around like chicken with no head helping the other old people who needed diaper changes to spoon feeding them there food. But it was thoughtful that they would try to take the time to sit down and just listen to my uncle talk even though it didn't make any sense since he has Alzheimer. Mr. David Kim, the manager gave me a tour of the facility which was very nice of him. So I took a closer look at the place. We were so lucky to find this facility for my cousin who'd had a massive stroke. My cousin was there for26 month's following his stroke and I couldn't have asked for more compassionate caregivers. I highly recommend this board and care facility. My Mom who has had strokes and is in a wheelchair needs maximum care with all of her daily living activities likes it there. I feel peace of mind knowing that she's getting good care. I know of no other facility like this with 3 shifts of caregivers. Of course, seniors need someone to be their advocate, visit them, and look out for them in any facility on a frequent basis when there's some dementia involved. read more

I genuinely appreciated how the caregivers cared for my beloved grandmother who did reside their for about a 2 years. I admitted my grandmother wasn't the easiest to care for but they were patient & compassionate. I noticed the place didn't smell like urine in the air, like the other places that I've toured before making my final decision to place her at The Villa. This tells me that they are very attentive to the elderly people. I also liked the fact that both the caregivers & the manager would call me & keep me posted about anything that I should be aware of.
