About 2 years ago, I found a 5-star mechanic for my parents locally who ended up being an overpriced 1.5 star because he was a "parts replacer" instead of a mechanic who fixes problems rather than looks to find any way to overcharge for unnecessary parts and labor. Of course he used a friendly nature to charm my elderly father and health sob story for delays, sympathy & to hide his deceptions. I had recollected some who gave him 5-stars lamented how he always found more problems to "fix" beyond the issue they came in for... I had my suspicions confirmed when my parents got yet another high estimate and I asked a pro mechanic friend to take a look and he instantly said the guy's solutions were those of a "parts replacer". I had forgotten that term. Fortunately nearby at around the same time, Dan, Juan and Long took over the corner gas-station & started Downtown Auto Repair. Dan has another shop a little south & lots of experience. They are "mechanics", really nice people and a great team. For general repair, they are fantastic! They fixed the issues the parts replacer "found" for less than half. Both my parents and I have taken our cars to them here and there with various maintenance/issues and they continue to impress. They are honest, informative, fair and since we are now regular customers as needed, if it's a simple fix, they just fix it then and send us on our way. I have lagged in my general recommendations but wanted others in search of an honest mechanic to know they will find one's with Dan, Juan and Long at Downtown Auto Repair and of course reward them for giving us such great service. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I found them because I needed a shop that could smog my older car. Most smog stations can't smog older cars. During that smog visit, I mentioned to Juan that I have engine problems in one of my other cars. I told him I had already taken the car into a different repair shop and they had given me a very high estimate to fix a supposedly blown head gasket. Juan at Downtown Auto Repair suggested I bring the car in so they could look at it. What happened next was rather shocking. They did not find the specific engine problems that the other place had found. The other place told me the engine had a blown head gasket. Downtown Auto said it didn't have a blown head gasket! What!? Devin said the cooling system just needed to be flushed out and we should replace the thermostat that controls the cooling system. They then did that, at a fraction of what the other place would have charged me to rebuild the engine and the car now runs great and no longer overheats. I am so very grateful to Devin and Juan at Downtown Auto Repair for helping me with my car and fixing the problem for an affordable price. Devin even called me the next day to follow up. Who does that anymore? Like in the good old days! I am so impressed with these guys and will go back there for sure, should the need arise again. Don't hesitate to go to Downtown Auto Repair!
