The place looks very inviting from the outside...jus went in for a pleasant sunday morning brunch...seated in a corner..waitress comes in after like 15 minutes..doesn't acknowledge when talked to..speaks over the table to people besides u...anyway..we asked for a table by the window and she said she will do that for us and when that table is available seats someone else and doesn't even apologize for tht..we were five and and everything we ordered literally sucked..pancake with choc chips was raw..omelettes were gross..veggie burger can't even begin to say...nutshell..service sucked and so did the food..not going again ever... read more

Love breakfast from the Downtown Deli. For a while they were getting my orders close but not quite right but they have it now! Love that the owner is from Jersey and knows what a Pork Roll/Taylor Ham Sandwich is!!! Missed them! I get my Pork Roll and Cheese on a toasted Everything Bagel and it is awesome! Lunches there are great too! On top of that the waitstaff and cashiers are so friendly!!! I love seeing the fresh flowers on the counter in the morning when I stop in! Terrible. Gritty lunch meat, stale roll and sandwich was cut with a condiment knife; I didn't have any condiments. In addition asked for no macaroni salad on plate. Sandwich was placed half on it. Gross. Never again. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. read more

My first time at DT Deli, I may return when in the area. Had the pastrami with Swiss with kraut, but yellow mustard.....seriously? I thought this was a deli. My companions had a turkey Ruben and a corned beef. Sandwiches were made with great rye and came with very good macaroni salad. We split an order of hand cut fries which were very good. My only complaint was that we were given a paper with daily specials and another with new menu additions, but without pricing. When I asked the waitress, she didn't have a clue and had go ask a manager. So why even put prices on the main menu? WTF? The lox and bagels special was $13 today. Once burned, twice shy; I will never order a "special" unless I know the price, but I am never shy to ask. A ridiculous policy by an owner who I can only assume wants to pull one over on his customers, the expense account lawyers from across the street perhaps? Maybe I will try Abe's next time. Just ate here with my husband for a quick lunch. It was about 95* outside and I don't think this place has air? We had to ask to move our table to in front of a fan that was blowing in the corner to even stay. The service was fine and the food came out quickly. I was having a craving for pancakes so ordered the sweet cream pancakes - VERY delicious and will definitely be back for them again. My husband ordered the buffalo chicken wrap - he said it wasn't very spicy. I will be back to try other items, and people in the area looking for a quick bite to eat should stop by. read more

Very great and classy place to eat in the Scranton area. With customizable fries, the buffalo bite fries will send a tingle down your spine. My go-to for lunch in Scranton. They have a variety of healthy menu items which is nice and I've never had a bad meal. Prices are relatively cheap and the service is good. if you're going for lunch it's a good idea to go before noon to get a table because they fill up quickly. This is by far one of my fav places to go for lunch! Big selections of salads and hoagies! Clean, up to date setting! Staff is inviting if u get the right waitress. But I can never complain because the food is so good! My favorite thing to eat is a hoagie called the god father! Honestly it's lucky that this is the only semi decent place in Scranton to eat breakfast or lunch at. When you show up there it takes forever to get water and you will never get a refill. Once you get your food the waitress never comes back to ask if everything came out okay. Today I had to wait until the person I was with finished eating for the waitress to come back and she didn't even come back. I had to get up and ask for her to come to the table because my food came out wrong. I specifically said no cheese and can't eat food with cheese. They are a lot nicer to families rather than young adults. If I was the owner I would be really upset with the techniques that the waitresses have if I were him or her I would spend money on retraining these people because they can be really rude. read more

Well, I placed a Christmas lunch order to be delivered today at noon. I heard from the office it was to be delivered to and it was not there yet. The office waiting is across the street. I called at 12:10 and asked the status and was told it's ready -- when do I want it delivered? What? I told them when I paid cash earlier this week that it was to be delivered at noon. What if I didn't call? Would it have been delivered at all? When I paid for this order, I decided to get a tuna salad sandwich on a roll and a cup of soup....$9.75!!!! Really? We are talking Scranton...not Manhattan. I am not going back there and will resume using Bigsby's for my holiday lunches for my clients. read more

The food is good and I've always had good service there. The place is clean and well taken care of. My only complaint is that the prices have gone up significantly in the last 6 months. Spending $15 for a carry out lunch in downtown Scranton is expensive. Especially when we're talking about a burger and fries, before any tip. NYC, Philly, not really an issue. Scranton? As a local of Scranton, this was not my first poor experience at the deli. I would say overall, one of five dining experiences is satisfactory. My office ordered take out and we had nothing but issues. They put the order under the wrong name so they couldn't find it when I got there. I brought the order back to the office and 1 salad was missing the grilled chicken that was paid to be included and the other three salads were missing avocado and bleu cheese that was supposed to be included. We called and they delivered but it took another 20 minutes for them to come 1/2 mile and they only the chicken and they brought avocado and bleu cheese for 1 of the 3 salads. The quality of the food depends on what you order. I go there almost once a week because it's close. Staff is friendly if you get the right server. Food is average. My wife and I ordered tuna sandwiches. The price was outrageously high. Near double-digit for tuna? We questioned the hostess that the price we were charged did not match the price in the menu. The food here was very disappointing. It's totally overpriced and our meals were disgusting.I went here on a whim with my two kids because my son had an appointment in the area. They ordered the sweet cream pancakes (3 of them cost $7.00) I had them split it and I ordered the Western omelette. The kids didn't even finish the pancakes they were so poorly made. My children eat everything! My son was horribly sick to his stomach after leaving which made things even worse. My omelette was pathetic. Ridiculously small and overcooked yet the veggies inside were raw. The home fries were so salty that I had to ask for another order. The second order was equally as salty and disgusting. Needless to say I didn't eat it. At this point I could tell the waitress was annoyed at me and I didn't want to cause a scene but I honestly would have walked out of there if I wasn't a decent person. An orange juice is $2.75 (prices were NOT on the menu) and my son and daughter didn't even get their cup completely filled. The atmosphere here is lovely but that's about all I can say. Whoever is cooking here needs to get a new profession. $22.00 down the drain... Should have just gone to Dunkin Donuts. ****just to update, I did try calling the manager but did not get a hold of him until Tuesday the following week. He appreciated my call and said that he would try to make things right by giving us a gift certificate towards a further purchase. The price was close to $9 after taxes, and the scant serving of tasty macaroni salad on the side didn't justify paying that much for what it was. I don't understand the poor reviews. I have been to the Downtown Deli three times for lunch, twice having the Helen Schwartz specialty pastrami sandwich (very good) and one time having the albacore tuna wrap (also tasty). All visits were on a Saturday during the lunch rush, however, the service was speedy. The girl who waited on us was knowledgable, friendly and attentive. She was very young and I had the feeling she was fairly new working there but everyone has to start somewhere. The place was packed, yet we noted the service still flowed. The Deli looked immaculate, the side dishes were excellent, especially the macaroni salad. The deli case had many luscious choices and we want to try them all. We will keep going back! There is mostly street parking although there is a parking garage nearby. Enjoy! read more
