She's turned it into her own personal power trip/ exclusive club. She obviously prefers men over women and will let them cut you in line and force you to leave even when you're already seated at a table. Not good service. As a first timer, had to ask at the bar how to order, eg will someone come to our table, or what? Ordered a hot dog/brew special for $6, mac and cheese at $6 another hot dog for $3.50 and a coke - price?. Never got second hot dog (by pleasant cook and bar tender), but assured we were not charged. Food OK but nothing great Went to pay and explained we never got the second dog and was again assured we would not be charged. Twenty bucks later, the arithmetic looks to me like I was - unless the coke was $3.50, Guess that's possible but pricey and I just didn't feel like belaboring it. I recently went to Downward Dog in Corvallis and I have to say, I left feeling pretty uneasy. I had planned a great night, even threw on my favorite avengers tee shirt. When I went to order, the dark haired woman behind the register lifts an eyebrow and releases a drawn out whisper, "hulk smash". I was in shambles. She was trying to seduce me. Such inappropriate behavior. What if my wife would have overheard? If I return I will make sure to not wear such arousing garments. Great fries though. read more

horrible service, took my id away from me for no reason. basing it off of the text on it. told me to leave the bar and call the cops if I wanted it back so I did. when they caem out and talked to me they realized it wasn't a fake id and asked me why I didn't stand up for myself. So I will start this review in saying, this is the second if not third time this experience has happened from the same girl who works here. I have worked in the service industry for over 5 years and never have I ever been so rudely treated then by her. This girl is short, heavier set, blonde who is from what I can tell a busser and/or Id card checker. Each experience I have had with her has been rude and I have had a bigger group with me. She has been overly rude, not welcoming, and out right disrespectful. For example, tonight as she was taking one of our baskets of empty tator tots slams the ranch into the plastic basket clearly pissed off before she stormed away. She started the night by stamping our wrists which is fine but continues to say she will tell us to leave if we continue studying. Ask us to leave? WOW, I would understand if we were swatting but our table consistently returned to the bar to received drinks and food about twice an hour. Close to the end of our visit (about 2 hours in, clearly not even close to overly long), when we are about to leave after finishing our last ounce of beer left and still chatting amongst ourself she comes up to tell us to move to the ramp to stand so a male group can take our seats. We explained we had just this to finish and then we would be on our way, so that should be fine. She then instead of just letting us finish the last bit alone decides to stand there and waves the male group of boys over to hover over us as we take our last sips, how uncomfortable, especially during covid. UNREAL. Never have I ever felt so unwelcome in an establishment, basically "get out, I don't want your business". I would not be so bitter about this if it had not been clear she was being intentionally mean to our group. A table of boys that had been at the table next to us who had been there longer than us, she was very buddy buddy to them, talking extremely loud trying to clearly flirt. Normally I don't care but to then be so rude to us for just 'being' is not something an establishment should want. period. I assume no name is needed here because she is the only person that works there that fits that description. This is obviously the place to be for a beer close to campus. I have just been so amazed at the greatness of the beer in Corvallis that I will try not to spend all of my time talking about that. But, I mean, come on- the beers are so great! The varieties alone begs one to wonder why so many good beers can come from such a small place. I particularly enjoyed a couple of IPAs (the double-IPA- maybe Sticky Hangs?- was surprisingly floral and fruity). And who can go wrong with $3.5 micros for happy hour? I would have loved to grab some food (and taste more of the beers), but I was on an interview. The people were great and helpful to an overwhelmed out-of-towner, and the place had a quirky, hip vibe. Because it's right at the University, the patrons are on the young side- which is likely the only drawback. Would love to stop by here again if I ever find myself in the town. read more

Went here today with my family for a late lunch they were very accommodating to my dietary restrictions and were very helpful with making food I could eat. The parmesan garlic fries were a little bit of a let down considering the cheese wasn't melted but overall not a bad place. This is your typical college bar. It is very noisy and crowded at times. The prices are reasonable and they often have drink specials you should definitely check it out. The drinks are not extremely weak which is a plus. The french fries are pretty good if I do say so myself. The macaroni and cheese is not great. It is pretty bland and could use a little bit more to better it's taste. When you walk in, you have to order your food and drink at the bar and they will deliver the food to you. There is not usually a very long wait to get your food which is very nice especially with the amount of people that come into the restaurant. It is a common spot for my friends and I but if I had the option to choose another restaurant, I probably would. read more

If you go to Oregon State, theres a good chance you, or someone you know, has been to the Downward Dog (previously known as The Red Fox). It is conveniently located right across the street from campus on the corner of 23rd and Monroe, and has tons of outdoor seating for large groups. The restaurant is best known for it's bar food, but I suspect that most of it's regulars, myself included, go there because of the atmosphere rather than the food. Despite the menu that is a bit lacking, the restaurant has a decent happy hour and fun themed bar nights. After having attended OSU for the past 4 years, and having the tendency to reward myself with a drink and a snack after a long day of classes, there are a few things I expect from an on campus restaurant/bar. First, I expect it to be conveniently located and able to accommodate large groups. The Downward Dog exceeds this expectation with flying colors. Not only is it directly across the street from campus (you can literally see it from Weniger Hall), it also has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with large tables. Even going there with relatively large groups of friends as I usually do, I can't remember ever having to wait for a table. Also, if you also like to travel in groups, you never have to worry about splitting the bill because of it's walk-in and order policy. Second, I expect there to be a happy hour menu with good deals because I'm a college student who is ballin' on a budget. While the Downward Dog's happy hour is somewhat unexceptional, it easily competes with most other happy hour spots near campus. The restaurant has a standard daily happy hour from 4-7pm that offers $1.50 PBRs and $3.50 micro brews, along with a small variety of snack foods (like I said, unexceptional). Other happy hour spots along Monroe St. offer nearly identical deals. However, one thing that sets the Downward Dog apart is that each day comes with an additional themed deal. For example, Tiki Tuesdays offer $3 Tiki drinks, Whiskey Wednesday offers $3 whiskey drinks, and Thirsty Thursday offers $3 well drinks, and so on, giving customers an excuse to come in on any given day of the week. Third, for a place that is known for it's bar food, I expect there to be a significant amount of options and high quality food. Although I do like indulging in the occasional cheeseburger, I also like the option of ordering a healthy soup or salad if I feel the need to. This is one thing that the Downward Dog's menu is lacking. While the options on the menu range from tacos, to burgers, to wings, and are relatively diverse, I have found that almost everything on the menu is heavy and oily. Don't get me wrong, it tastes pretty good, I just almost always end up regretting my order after I leave. My favorite item on the menu is by far the ahi tacos. Not only are they one of the less oily dishes, but also they come drizzled in a spicy aioli sauce that is to die for. If you're not keen on Ahi they also come in chicken and another kind of fish. Bottom line: the food is decent. Just don't expect to go there and stick to your strict diet. Lastly, I expect the staff to be friendly and accommodating. Because of the walk-in order policy, the only interaction with the staff you'll likely have during your time at the restaurant will be when you place your order. However, even in that short amount of time, in my experience the bartenders have not always been the friendliest. They always seem rushed, irritated, and act as though they really don't want to be there. I have, on numerous occasions, felt as through the bartender was annoyed because I couldn't decide on what I wanted to order or asked for a beer suggestion. I personally find that unacceptable of someone who works in the service industry. I shouldn't feel uncomfortable asking a question about the menu, which is something they are obviously more knowledgeable about than I am. I understand that everyone has the occasional off day, but I have unfortunately noticed this flaw on more than one occasion. Overall, the Downward Dog is a conveniently located restaurant and bar with a great atmosphere, a decent happy hour menu, and decent food. While there are definitely things that I think can and should be improved, such as the amount of oil in their food and their customer service techniques, I will undoubtedly continue to go there until I graduate in December. In my opinion, the restaurants fun themed nights, outdoor seating, and ahi tacos outweigh the oily dishes and seemingly irritated employees. If you go to OSU and have yet to try the Downward Dog, I suggest you take a trip across the street and check it out! read more
