I am beyond upset to learn you're selling them for scalper/market price, instead of MSRP, like every other reputable retailer. MSRP is $60, you're selling them for $130, more than double. On Sunday July 18th, 2021 I visited this True Value Hardware in Doylestown to inquire about getting a copy of my receipt for the purchase of a Wayne Sump Pump. I was directed to a store representative. I explained to the rep that I had a sump pump that failed and needed a copy of my receipt so that I could get the unit replaced under it's one year warranty. The store representative was kind enough to inquire about my request and took the last 5 digits of my American Express Card and my phone number and he would get back with me. At this point the rep told me the store return policy was 30 days., (as if I was trying to return a 7 month old sump pump I was simply trying to get a copy of my receipt). He made no mention whatsoever about the condition of the returned item(s) either used or unused, working or not working etc. He simply stated I had 30 days to return the unit. So being armed with this information I proceeded to purchase another Wayne Sump Pump and whispered to myself great so I'll have 30 days to return the unit thinking to myself well at least I get 30 days. The receipt I was provided clearly states "returns must be made within 30 days with valid receipt". Now it was never my intention to return a perfectly working sump pump in fact I purchased it to be a backup. I came home unpacked the new sump pump and installed it. It started to work so I though everything was fine. In the morning when I checked on my crawl space, I noticed the water was still in the space. When I removed the sump pump, I noticed that the grill surrounding the unit was clogged with debris. I cleaned out the grills and reinstalled the pump. I again checked on the pump a number of hours later and I had the same result. I received a call from the True Value Rep stating that they were not able to located a receipt that old and I asked why he stated that the POS cloud service they used did not retain that much space to hold receipts that old. I also mentioned that OK but I'm going to return the pump I just purchased because it did not work for its intended purpose. At this point I uninstalled the unit sprayed it with water packaged the unit up and headed to True Value to get a refund. When I returned to the store on Monday the 19th.I was told that I could not return a used item let alone one that smelled of sewage I asked why not? I was told I had 30 days to return the product by a store representative. I was then directed to the checkout counter where displayed was the store return policy and I was asked did I read it. I said no I did not read it as I was speaking to a store representative who again only stated that I had 30 days to return the unit. One other reason I was told I could not get a refund was because they (True Value) would not be able to obtain an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). I then took the unit out of the box and demonstrated that the item in the box was different than the product displayed on the packaging box and the one I thought I purchased. The Owner looked at the product and simply stated "Sorry". I left the store with a very uneasy feeling. I then went home and contacted Wayne the manufacturer of the sump pump and explained what had happen and again stated that the product I believe I was purchasing was different from the one in the box. I was instructed to send pictures of both units my original Wayne pump purchased on December 22, 2020 and still under warranty If only I could obtain a copy of my receipt which True Value was unable to provide and the newly purchased unit. Wayne acknowledged the difference in the units as was sorry and offered to take the unit back. They instructed me to return the unit to the store and if the store had any issues that they would be able to help. When I returned to the store today and displayed the email document and my receipt the owner told me he would not accept the return. I asked why? I was able to obtain and RMA for the unit so all he has to due was refund me and Wayne would replace the unit with a new one, one that could be put back on the self for resale. Surely a win for us both. The owner refused stated that Wayne's RMA policy was not his policy after telling me that he would not be able to return the unit, which at this point is untrue. He then stated to me that I told three representatives on Sunday that I would be returning the unit on Monday which is a mis-statement of fact. I only spoke to one representative, I also let him know when we spoke on the phone that I was returning the unit because it did not work as intended. Clearly there is a prejudice here against me. I believe that the reason my request for a refund was denied is because the owner has led himself to believe that my only intent was to use the pump and return it the next day. I had a terrible experience here. I purchased a florescent light for my kitchen, and it did not work so I returned it for an even exchange (which was no big deal because I realized I really needed 2 lights and not 1). So I (my wife actually) purchased 2 more lights and they did not work either. When I returned the 2 lights for a refund, they refused to give me my money back because I did not have my wife's credit card with me. I had mine but not my wife's. In any case they sent me out of the store with the 2 non-working lights they sold me and no money. I went to Sears Hardware and bought 2 lights that work (by the way they were cheaper as well). My wife went back the next day, and got the refund for the other 2 lights. In today's busy world, it took my 3 trips to True Value, and one to Sears to fix a simple "light out" issue. We were thinking about buying a new Weber grill from True Value next year. They will not be getting our money for a major purchase like that. As a matter of fact, we will not be shopping at this store at all anymore. We liked it because it was close and convenient, but the extra trips to get a working item and/or a refund is not worth it. read more

I needed a replacement coax cable, and the associate directed me to the area, explained the two options, and suggested the lower cost option, given my needs. He then proceeded to take my purchase to the front and check me out. A+ experience. read more

Time was you went to a store like True Value to get the kind of customer service you don't get at the big box stores. Don't expect that to be the case at this True Value. Rather, you can expect rude service from the manager, ignorance of merchandise from the sales staff and overall the most unpleasant shopping experience imaginable. Take your money elsewhere. My experience here was so bad that it borders on bizarre. The owner of the store called the police on me (or pretended to) because a relative of mine left a bad review on this site. I'm not kidding. I couldn't believe that anyone would behave this way, let alone a business owner, so I recorded the interaction (watch here: https://youtu.be/u3OMJCrv-sU ). You can watch the owner, Dan, who has responded to several other Yelp posts in a snarky way, literally say that he would not accept me returning my product and I was banned from the store "because you're related to her." Once I started recording you can see he starts with "she gave an unfair Yelp review" and then as I pointed out the ridiculousness of kicking me out for something a relative of mine supposedly did, the wheels in his head start turning and you can see he scrambles to change his story. His new story was that my relative was rude to his employees, using profanity and obscene gestures. This sounded unlike my relative but I wasn't there at the time so I didn't dispute it in this video. She later told me that while she was upset with his poor service (which I've witnessed), she used no profanity or obscene gestures. The "teenage girl" he points out in the video that my relative supposedly abused was not even there. Again, even though I believe my relative over this guy and think he's probably lying, his interaction with my family member has nothing to do with me. It is completely unprofessional and immoral (illegal?) to deny someone service because they happen to be related to someone who gave you a bad Yelp review or hurt your feelings. Even so, I ask Dan to release the security tapes of my relative supposedly using profanity and obscene gestures. He has offered to release security tapes in other Yelp posts but I don't think he'll be doing it this time because it will put his lies on further display. I have purchased items in this particular True Value store several times over the past few years and each time I had a reason to seek help from the store manager all I got was attitude and the worst customer service skills I experienced in any other store or large retail store! I hoestly feel before any store or retail chain promotes staff or hire outside store/department managers that they go through a customer service skills course to be certified and then monitored by upper management. I will be driving 10 miles now for another True Value store for my needs. So sad. read more

The Mgr at this store confuses being polite and friendly with good customer service. I picked up some scissors I had sharpened. I had paid for the service when I dropped them off. I forgot my receipt but the employee said it was ok. I left the store and , to my shock, the store then called my wife and demanded I bring the $15 receipt in or they would call the police! I drove all the way back and gave them the $15 receipt; told them that I had spent 2k there in the last year (which any competent manager would have checked before calling) , and that they could kiss my business goodbye. The manager then called and apologized and offered to refund my $15. I guess I'm old fashioned but I cant be publicly insulted and then "compensated" with small change. If you want friendly service, high prices and an opportunity to be accused of theft, then Doylestown True Value is for you. I will never set foot in this store again. read more

After living in Chicago and Washington, DC, I'm used to big box hardware stores where you have to stalk a worker, like a puma, to ask a question. When I moved to Doylestown and visited the True Value, I was prepared for the same but was happily surprised to discover I was wrong (my wife claims I'm wrong often, but I think she's mistaken). The workers in the store are friendly, helpful, and honest (I had one tell me I could find a better version of the product I was seeking at Home Depot). The store is small, and stock is thusly limited, but they usually seem to have the item I'm seeking. If you live next to a big box hardware store, then by all means use it. However, if you're near the Doylestown True Value, or want the small town hardware store experience, then please pay them a visit. read more

This place absolutely blows! It's no wonder small mom and pops like this are going the way of the dodo bird. So I go and buy and electric screwdriver 3 days ago. It was a brand I'd never heard of (Genesis) but it was all they had and I figured I'd give it a try. Well, it sucked. No power. Just not a well made tool. So I go back just now to return it and they refused. Turns out they will not take back power tools (an electric screwdriver is a power tool???) that have been opened. What??!?! Every company in the world will let you return things nowadays. Amazon, Home Depot, etc. etc. etc. Guy tells me it's a small family business, etc etc. I tell him it's just going to sit at home on my shelf, unused. Is $38 worth losing my business over? I just moved to the area and will certainly spend that in the next month alone. Sorry he says, there's nothing I can do. Well I can do something. I can let all the folks on Yelp know what a bunch of ratbags you are and tell them NOT TO SHOP IN YOUR STORE EVER. And hopefully that costs you way more than $38. My husband brought a piece of plumbing into the store in order to buy another piece that attaches to it. He asked a salesperson what he would need and was advised specifically to purchase a certain connection for the pipe. Upon bringing it home,opening it and trying to connect it, it turned out to be the wrong one. Our plumber couldn't stay any longer for us to run out again so he said he would come the next day and bring the part with him. So, I went back to True Value the next morning to return the part and the manager/owner told me that they would only give a store credit. EVEN THOUGH THEIR OWN ASSOCIATE GAVE US ILL ADVICE, they would not give us our money back. TERRIBLE SERVICE. If my husband had just blindly grabbed something off the shelf then that would be one thing but he was told by them what to buy! I understand stores have policies, but I worked in retail for 9 years and there is ALWAYS an exception that can be made if it was due to their own associate's error. They just didn't want to. My husband will go back and get the measly credit to give to someone else but we will NOT be back. We love to support local business and do so all the time but we can't support this lack of accommodation, again DUE TO THEIR OWN ERROR. They need to understand that they will never have a better selection or lower prices than Home Depot or Lowe's. The only thing they can offer is better service and they are not fulfilling that. Train your associates better and get some common sense. We will drive the extra 10 minutes to Home Depot from now on. You'd rather lose good customers over $15. If they decide to make this right, then I will edit my review. **EDIT. there's more now!!!! Holy moly. Husband went back in hours later to get the store credit and was told by the owner that he was no longer going to honor the return or our business. Told him he was trespassing and was going to call the police!! Um, what?! When my husband asked why, he said it was because I left a bad review online. Then this guy straight up LIED and went on to say that I was using foul language and making obscene gestures and verbally abused a teenage girl that was part of the staff when I was in earlier. ALL LIES. I never once cursed or gave the finger or anything like that. And there was no teenage girl there whatsoever at the time! Only him and two young men at the counter. What an insane psycho. I know he's reading this so, produce the security tape of me doing all this! Won't happen because it DOESN'T EXIST. Something is very, very wrong with this man. Again, all of this over a FIFTEEN DOLLAR RETURN. Would rather keep his few bucks and LIE, than practice good customer service and be a decent person and businessman. So I went to the local True Value in Doylestown for get some stuff. I try and support local small business whenever I can. I had a 40% off one item coupon and forgot to use it. I then went to Giant, in the same shopping center. When I was checking out I realized that I never used my coupon at True Value. So I went back. I was promptly in formed that I needed to use the coupon at the time of purchase. I said can they return it and resell it to me with the coupon? The cashier said no. I asked to talk to the manager. When he came up he created such a rude scene and said that he'll do this one time, but to never do it again. He said I was taking money out of small business. I was trying to give him business. #WTF Honestly, Fishers Hardware (Ace) is 5 mins North in Plumsteadville. I'll just go back there. I will never go back to this True Value again. The store itself is nice, location is convenient. I've saved myself a few trips to Warrington by shopping there. My only real issue is that at least one employee there doesn't seem to like to have customers "browsing"! The last time I was there, I was kind of reprimanded for looking at something that wasn't in the area he had directed me to! What's up with that??? Another time I guess I was taking too long to pick out some wood screws,,,the guy came back and wanted to know exactly what I was looking for...thanks, but I can pick out my own screws! Maybe they're worried about shoplifting. I enjoy walking around in stores, just looking at tools, hardware, etc. Not comfortable doing that in this store. read more

I had to do some repair on my Weber Grill and didn't feel like taking the long trip to the Big Box Chain Stores. I found the owner to be quite knowledgeable with the exact part I needed. In addition, I needed some sheet metal screws the day after and an employee assisted me immediately with the exact screw size. I would highly recommend True Value, Doylestown as they are local and know their stuff while treating you like family. read more
