There's a lot of Mexican restaurants in this area so I think the competition raises the bar. We ran in here late Saturday night and, by guest standards, we did "everything wrong". Large group. Split checks. 30 min to closing time. The food was very good and presented well. Plenty of seasoning and garnish. The service was a little mixed up because of the size of our group though. I don't know if it was the owner or not, but someone did come out and greet the group - so that was nice. Certainly hope to revisit when it's less chaotic and I can be a better guest! read more

Awesome food - and I'll be back Family run, Grandma's cooking in the kitchen (ummm ..yes please I'll eat whatever you make!!!). Good quality and value. We arrived after going to Highwood Pumpkin fest, about an hour before close. Had 11 of us. Had the torta Arabe - which is from Puebla region, never had it before and I'll definitely be having it some more going fwd. The beans were very flavorful, and came with some avocado, a really complete sandwich. My family also had the chicharron dinner, I thought it would have some meat in it but it's really just the pork skin in the most splendid salsa. Rice and beans super yummy. This is definitely a nice hole in the wall restaurant. While it is fairly small it is great for lunch with a few co-workers. We came at a great time as there was only 1 other table occupied when we got there. We got our waters fairly quickly and were able to order our food and it too came out quickly. There was definitely a slight language barrier when trying to order our food, but overall I would definitely come back here. read more

We came in for a weekend dinner about 30mins before closing. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious, like cooked by the abuelas of the home. The menu has a wide range of items to chose from. We ordered a couple horchatas to drink- those were just right. And I also tried the chilaquiles with an added cecina. The food was spot on as if it was home-cooked. The menu is quite vast so it would be nice to come back and try more things. The portions are good and the pricing is decent as well. read more

You will quickly learn the names of the owners and feel welcomed whether they are busy or between waves of regulars. Depending on our mood we love offerings like chorizo tacos, heuvos con chorizo or breakfast wrap with seasoned potatoes, tortas, burritos, pozole, and hongos mushroom quesadilla. Today I headed to Lake Bluff to participate in the Yelp Gives Back event at Bernie's Books and needed a place to grab something to eat beforehand, and Doña Paty's was pretty close by. I'm so glad I popped in for a late lunch, it was great. They have about 10 tables total, so it's pretty small, but of course you can do carry out (someone arrived at the same time as me and chose this option). It also looks like they place a couple of tables outside in al fresco weather. The chips and salsa are great. I may be wrong but it looks like they make the chips in house but I could be wrong. More importantly they have a green salsa that is delicious, with a good spice level that builds nicely. I almost asked them if I could buy some of it to take home with me--I talked myself out of doing so twice, only because I didn't have tortilla chips at home, then probably would have forgotten to get some, it would have been a whole thing. Just know that the salsa is good and I wanted more! I decided to go with fajitas instead of chilaquiles because it's been a very long time since I've had them... and they were so good. Standard in that they had the typical ingredients of chicken, peppers (red, green, yellow), onions, with rice and beans accompanying it. They were cooked really well and when I ran out of tortillas (do I underfill them? Are we purposely given too few tortilla shells? I don't know) I ate the rest of the veggies and chicken which I've not done before. It was too good for it to go to waste. There are a few parking spaces in the little shopping strip but no street parking since it's along Sheridan Road. I don't get up to Highwood often--I think I've driven through here maybe a handful of times in the 15 years I've lived in Chicago--so I don't know when I'll ever be back. Wow wow wow what a great Mexican breakfast! The huevos rancheros with green salsa are so delicious... I don't remember the last time I ate anything so fast! I love that the owner's family has been there both times I've visited. It's clearly a place to feel warmth, kin, and community. I'll be craving this until the next time I'm in the area. read more

All of the items on the menu are Doña Paty's own family recipe, and her food is always prepared fresh every day. Her Chocolate Molé Enchiladas are to die for, and if you've got a cold or you simply need some good soup, her Caldo de res (Chicken Soup with Rice) is the best Mexican Penicillin in town. We have driven by here all the time and never knew that they did breakfast. What a fabulous surprise! We walked in and you would have thought we had been there a thousand times by the way we were greeted. Everyone was so pleasant and friendly. The food was so fresh and delicious! When we are in the area there is only one place we even think to go. Doña Paty's. Our visits routinely follow my wife's prenatal appointments. She has had no shortage of cravings and after each appointment this is the only place she wants to go. This is the only place whose chips and salsa (yes, chips) are noteworthy. Best we've ever had. Not every Mexican restaurant has real fruit aguas frescas but they do here and they are delicious. They are refreshing, not overly sugary, and they compliment the food so well. As for the food, the menu is uncomplicated and the food is delicious and consistently of good quality and freshness. Never greasy or slapped together. We've never tried so many things on a menu because we're afraid of missing out on something delicious. My go to is the arabe taco. read more

Small 8 top dining area decorated in traditional Mexican decor located at the end of a strip mall directly across from Ft Sheridan. Traditional Mexican food cooked fresh to order. The 2 hot sauces were flavorful, the hot was not too hot. The verde salsa served with fresh chips was really good. They again came through on the verde sauce on the enchilada. A nice balance of flavors, tasty beans and rice round out the dish. On the taco side, el pastor for the win, meaty pork, no fat, with cilantro, onion and lime. Then there is the Dona Paty's house special, pork and onion in a tasty sauce, I have not had anything like it but I really enjoyed it. The service is so friendly. We were the only gringos in the full place and we were welcomed warmly. Definitely go here. read more

Yes! This place is legit fantastic. Their cemitas sandwiches alone would be worth the trip to this delicious spot to eat. Owners are wonderful and all the ingredients were fresh. If you live in the city you would take the metra to fort Sheridan. You can walk here from that stop. Buy a 50 dollar bag worth of these sandwiches so you can freeze them until your next trip up. He is a breath of fresh air, fun personality, provides great customer service, and a few dance moves. It is because of him a friend and I ate there 4 different times in a 3-week time span.     FOOD I've tried the carne asada nachos, arabe taco, carne asada enchiladas with green sauce, and the arabe burrito. Each item has distinct flavors, but the amount of meat to toppings are balanced and delicious. No one thing "overpowers" another. I would go with the arabe taco over the arabe burrito.  Enchiladas come with rice and beans.   I really enjoyed the asada meat the most - not tough, but tender, seasoned and cooked perfectly. Also, the chips with green salsa are AMAZING! If you're looking for something different, try the chips with a side of mole!   RECOMMENDATION I highly recommend visiting this locally owned restaurant if for no other reason than to try the arabe taco!    HOT TIP The menu through the yelp app doesn't have all the items listed on their in-store menu. What pleasure and pleasant surprise to visit this new Mexican restaurant. Their salsa is so fresh and made from scratch with visible fresh herbs, tangy lime and more. Service was attentive and just right, with a sincere concern about what our preferences were. The mushroom quesadillas were delicious and the surprise cucumber water just refreshing and palate cleansing. The small taco salad was larger than expected and delicious, as were the huaraches. Then came the desserts - the flan and tres leches were home made and out of this world. Worth returning for and we plan on doing that. read more
