My co-worker took me here for lunch. This was my first time here . It's a small cozy restaurant. They probably only have 8 seats in the whole restaurant. We ended up eating inside . I ordered the Asada burrito. Burrito was served with beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo and I got a side order of rice . Steak was cooked just perfect. All the ingredients were fresh. They had this spicy green salsa with lime, cilantro and some kind of peppers . It was so good. They also offer tacos , tortas, quesadillas. They offer a lot of different meats. To name a few. Tripa, rib eye, al pastor, arrachera, mahi-mahi fish, cabeza, chorizo, chicken, and beef tongue. I'm definitely coming back to try something new. Though I've eaten tacos delivered from La Plancha, this was my first time eating at La Plancha. You see this little place, formerly a beauty shop, had only a few seats inside and some outdoor seating. But it's always crowded. Now that they have an indoor space (formerly a CPA office) and a bar, it was more accessible for our party of six. We feasted on chips, salsa, guac and tacos (pastor, fish, lengua, carne asada), birria, enchiladas. Delicious, so tasty! So friendly! Definitely coming back for more! read more

In a city full of good Mexican food, I'm not that impressed by La Plancha. Some people say it's the most authentic, which it might be but they have some flaws I can't get past. The food has always been decent enough but the ordering system needs work. You enter into a tiny shop to order, and they only have one line counter where they are cooking. I have waited nearly an hour for a few tacos before, which is kind of ridiculous. I think they might prioritize people eating there over takeout. I'm glad they opened the separate inside seating portion, because they have a patio (only good for moderate weather) and 4 stools inside the building, which can get pretty smoky because they are cooking in close proximity. read more

If we were going to wait 45 minutes for tacos the least they could do would be to give the customers waiting chips and salsa. It was fantastic and they were knowledgeable about gluten free to advice me on what to order I got the Asada which I would rate a 7 of 10 Then then Vampira which was a 10 of 10 And the Vulcan which was a 10 of 10 but you have to get it without the fried crispy layer. After walking around Highwood trying to find a dinner spot, we ended up at La Plancha Loca. The atmosphere is very upbeat and summery. It's a small stand with some decorated outdoor seating. There's not much indoor seating, so I would recommend taking out in bad weather. The majority of their menu are tacos, with tons of different combinations that looked delicious. There are also burritos, quesadillas, chips and guac, etc. Really anything you could want from a Mexican restaurant. Service was wonderful here. They were helpful and quick! We started with just a basic order of chips & guac, which was a good size to split between four of us. Their chips were homemade and uniquely spiced and were thicker than your normal chip - perfect for holding any dips or toppings! The guac was also delicious. I ordered a burrito bowl, which wasn't on the menu but they offer. Only word of warning is that it doesn't come with rice. We weren't warned of this when we ordered, but when we asked they gave me a side of rice for free which was very nice. Everything about this was delicious - I scarfed down the whole thing! I ordered it with chicken and it was flavorful and tender. Nothing crazy unique, but very tasty. I would come back here and try some of their taco varieties! read more

It's the reason why we picked this restaurant, but it fell short. Super yummy michelada! Fresh pico that's plentiful with lime and cilantro- super yum. Super fluffy and flavorful rice. Black beans perfect consistency and three awesome salsas- pretty sure that one is a classic Verde, one is an avocado Verde that is super floral (likely jalapeños, and the red is unlike any other red I've had- pretty sure it has tamarindo yum). Nice outdoor seating and friendly service.... Probably couldn't ask for more... except maybe parking lol...I parked in the back lot but I'm pretty sure that's private for the apartments. I really enjoyed La Plancha Loca. I parked on the street and on my way walking up to the facility . The smells drifted into my nostrils and started getting my tastebuds into overdrive. Sidewalk seating and bar seating indoors. We arrived a little after 7:00 to walk in to a very small restaurant. It was packed ( taco Tuesday) I ordered 1 grilled shrimp tacos Steak taco, black beans and rice Al pastor taco pork torta That came with chips Guacamole and chips and tamarind drink. I loved all of it. Home made chip with the perfect smattering of salt . I loved the guacamole but was extremely expensive tax and tip for guacamole was 12.00. I liked the black beans better then the guacamole. It's cool how you can peek over the counter and see the whole kitchen. This place is excellent. We ended up ordering three more times after our first order. Lots of leftovers . The chips beans and guacamole made a tasty treat for breakfast. My friend raves about La Plancha Loca, and has for years so finally we went together. It's a little place, and usually always full so if you don't live close (or have a friend that does) you might occasionally have trouble finding a place to eat your food. My friend raves about the pastor so I tried that, the skirt steak and the La plancha shrimp. The La plancha shrimp taco was out of this world good, and I have been thinking of it ever since. Especially with the creamy green salsa offering they have had. Whatever tortillas they use are also very good. I'm giving it 4 stars because the skirt steak and al pastor weren't any more special that anywhere else. read more

Quesobirria and a cold one really hit the spot on a warm fall afternoon. Busy, small grill with a spit of al pastor roasting and smelling delicious. Friendly, busy cooks and service staff working hard and pushing out delicious food with appealing presentation. Indoors is cramped with only a few counter seats, but outside has a good amount of tables. Shrimp is wrapped in bacon in their shrimp tacos - that worked very well for me, but may not be for everyone. Steak Quesadillas were delicious. Chicken taquitos were ok but I prefer them elsewhere. We ordered six tacos with beans and rice. The tacos we ordered were two asada, Al pastor, Baja, shrimp and arrachera. All the tacos were cooked well and very flavorful. The only critique I'd have are on the tortillas. The tortillas even doubled up fell apart/ripped when eating. The tortilla wasn't that flavorful and seemed to be cheap store bought ones. Brrr...winter is coming! We've been lucky enough to enjoy 5 months of outdoor dining during the pandemic. Restaurants are currently closed again indoors, but even if they weren't we aren't quite ready to make our way inside. However, after a long week my husband and I were eager to take advantage of having a babysitter and avoid putting our little rascals to bed. I called La Plancha to see if I could reserve one of their outdoor greenhouses for Friday evening and they said no problem. When we showed up they nicely told us they had sanitized and heated our greenhouse for us. We placed an order for chips and guac and lots of tacos and made our way to the greenhouse. While waiting 15 minutes for our food we couldn't figure out how they said this was heated because we were freezing. Finally when they brought our food they informed us we were sitting in the wrong greenhouse (oops) and then we moved over to one that had a space heater. Much cozier and we were comfortable in there with jackets on, although not sure it would be warm enough if the temps were under 40 degrees. The food itself was very tasty and on par with some of our favorite tacos spots in the North Shore (Taco Nano, etc). I tried everything from the shrimp to fish to steak...and all was very good. The people who work here also couldn't be friendlier. We were bummed they don't have alcohol since we could have used a margarita at the end of a long week, but it just gave us an excuse to stop elsewhere for a drink after. With winter coming our way I probably won't dine there again for awhile, but a great spot for takeout and will dine at one of their outdoor tables (or back in the greenhouse) when nicer temps come our way. read more

There's several taco places in this area but this is by far my favorite. They cook everything from scratch, great recipes, and the care is reflected in the fact that despite their tiny size they're always busy. Well worth the wait. Drive south, drive back north. Time and again. Each time thinking looks good. Finally, daughter and I dipped our heads in on a very nice late summer, late afternoon. We ordered a variety and the variety was fresh and tasty. Came again on a late evening when things were busy. Not a problem--they're efficient. Efficient and friendly.
