There weren't a lot of restaurants open for lunch today (July 4). We've dined at La Casa de Isaac & Moishe before but not this location, which is part deli and part restaurant, and so seeing people dining at the outdoor tables drew us in. The restaurant was understaffed today, so getting menus or complimentary chips and salsa (tasty) took extra long. I ordered a Jamaica drink and flautas (2 duck and 2 chicken) and my friend ordered a taco salad. There were quite a lot of people who stopped in (as I said, many places were closed) and that added to our wait. My flautas came out covered with beans, lettuce and tomato and garnished with cheese and avocado. It was tasty but not what I was expecting. My friends taco salad was fine, although the shell was well done. I felt the food was pricey for what we ordered and it did take a while for them to bring our check and process our card. I saw a man sitting at a table alone and he still hadn't been acknowledged after 20 minutes. Our server was friendly and apologized for the wait but I could see several patrons getting visibly upset. With a Yelp check in you can receive guacamole but as we had already ordered, I saved it for next time. read more

I can't say enough good things about Isaac & Moishe's Deli. We had a large group of hungry soldiers to feed, and they went above and beyond--not just meeting expectations but absolutely exceeding them. La Casa De Isaac is located on restaurant row in Highwood, right next to Miramar. It is half a grocery store, and a restaurant. When you walk in you can either walk to the cashier and order food to go, or shop for some goodies to bring home. Or dine in the restaurant. The parking is street parking and may be a hassle but the food makes it worth it. The restaurant is colorful and bright, the staff is incredibly nice! Always checking in, making suggestions on menu items and very attentive. We started with the house chips and salsa, and guacamole. Let me tell you when I LOVE guac, I get super picky. Their guac is SO good! I've already been craving it! For my entree I got the Azteca tacos! The steak on these tacos and the melted cheese in to each bite was better than the last! My husband got a burrito and the second he saw my plate he was jealous he didn't get the same despite loving how great his burrito was. All in all, I can't wait to come back and try more of their menus! All of the items on the specialties section looks absolutely incredible. read more

This restaurant is a wonderful establishment and a local institution that serves delicious Mexican food and also some groceries of fresh veggies, fruits, etc. I went here for dinner with a party of four on a Sunday evening. It was early enough that the restaurant wasn't busy. So, we got seated promptly. There was only one server from the waitstaff managing the bar and dining area that evening. Our server was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. This restaurant has an extensive menu and they also have other items on their deli + grocery side of the shop. We ordered a couple of Micheladas and a Margarita for drinks. For appetizers, we ordered one dish of crispy duck taquitos. For our entreés, we order Isaac Mom's enchiladas with chicken, a veggie torta, a Suadero picadita, half an order of their pollo a la parrilla, and a Kid's meal of burger and fries. The food came out promptly. We didn't have to wait. In fact, it took us longer to order our food than it took the time for our food to arrive. All the dishes were delicious. The best dish on the table was the enchilada dish followed by the picadita and then the taquitos. The pollo dish was flavorful with tender bone-in chicken in chile arbol sauce, a side of rice, beans, fresh corn tortillas, and roasted jalapeño but the arbol sauce was a bit salty for my liking. Everyone enjoyed their tasty food. As we were celebrating a cousin of mine's birthday, I asked our server if they did something for birthday celebrations and she said they offer either flan or tres leches cake. But she didn't mention anything about it being complimentary or not. The dessert was not complimentary for birthday celebrations like occasions. I went with (regular) flan just to have something different than a cake. The slice of their flan was a triangle cut like a cheesecake slice and it had a bit of a cheesecake-esque texture than a traditional Mexican flan. The flan came with a drizzle of chocolate sauce which to me wasn't quite complementary to the flan's flavor but it didn't ruin the flan's taste either. It was nice. The restaurant got a bit busy later in the evening. Our server was doing a heck of a job of keeping up with her tables and the patrons at the bar. The restaurant was clean and inviting. They even turned on the Sunday evening NFL playoffs game at our request. This restaurant and its shop have a good variety on their menu. The restaurant menu items are pricey. Although, there are non-expensive items available. For example, my pollo dish which was a filling meal was just $10 and the Picadita was $3 and some change. You just have to look at the menu on the deli side of the shop. Overall, I had a good experience at this restaurant and would go back for more. It is wheelchair accessible on bothersome the restaurant and grocery sides. The food... oh my! The chips and salad were the perfect heat to begin the meal. SO said the guac was perfect! First time eating here and I can say it was the Mothers favorite enchilada is the best enchilada I've ever had. Ever. The meat was so tender and all the flavors were so well balanced. Went here for lunch and it was such a fun experience. This is both a Mexican deli/shop and a restaurant. They have a nice little patio out front under a tent for dining and indoor dining and a bar area. The decor is nothing special, but the food, drinks, and service are excellent. This is 100% authentic Mexican, so be ready. Isaac (the owner) was the one who waited on us and he couldn't have been nicer. He made one hell of a margarita (best I've had in the Chicagoland area) and recommended some dishes as well. The El Trio was perfect - it was a little taste of a few things. Make sure to try Grandmas enchiladas - wow. The ceviche wasn't for me, but others in the group loved it. Even the salsa was yummy and you could tell it was house made. If you order the pozole, go easy in the spices at first - it gives it a big kick of spice with not even half of what they provide with it. Give them a try. read more

It was the last 60+ degree day in November; a Sunday... I looked at hubby and said "This is going to be a LOOONG winter (due to covid). Let's seize the day and go out for lunch!". I've been want to try Isaac & Moise's new tent they put up in front of their deli for a while, so we headed out for a boozy brunch. We had a lovely waitress who brought us HUGE margarita's. Next time I'll order a "half" or just share the big one with Hubby. I loved their brunch menu. Lots of good choices! I love huevos racheros, so that was my pick. Hubby got a spicy scrambled egg dish. It was quite spicy! So I helped him eat it. ;-) We sat at the edge of the tent. The sun was shining on us. The music was playing in the background. The drinks and food were hitting the spot. (Sooooooo nutritious and soooooo tasty.) The smoked whitefish and the chicken/avocado omelette are both personal favorites. Don't go in expecting a kosher kitchen -- this place is Jewish but not kosher. (I'm not a religious man -- far from it. Just sayin', though, in case you're looking for a kosher kitchen.) read more

Oh, Issac, why has it been two years since I've seen you and Moishe? Why? We brought our kiddos here for a family taco night, and we've converted them into appreciating authentic Mexican tacos. Move over Chipotle. I have boys with big appetites, and they could barely finish the two tacos they ordered. Here they stuff their corn tortillas full of yummy goodness. The best part? My kids are hooked. Instead of us supporting a chain we're supporting a local business (that loves Yelp), and that feels great. The set up is a deli counter in a grocery store with tables. The ginormous menu with daily specials can't be beat...they even serve tongue if that's your thing. From what I understand from Isaac (I think it was Isaac), the chicken dinner special on Tuesday and Thursday is the real winner. Chicken with sides for the whole family for $13. He insisted we get it, but we were jonesin' for tacos. The good thing is my son insisted we come back for the chicken...yes! They have a Yelp check in offer for $1 off of a smoothie, so next time I might have to go that route. Seriously healthy and delicious smoothie options. The real deal with fresh squeezed juice. I spotted a unique selection of pre-packaged herbal tea blends at the deli counter. I'm looking forward to buying a box soon. I'm so glad we came back. Tacos for $2.50 each. I've never known such veggie-packed juices to taste so good but Isaac and Moishe's succeeds in doing so every time! Get a 16oz Green Joy Juice for $3 or $4 depending on whether you want protein in it. Amazing!! In it there's spinach, kale, pineapple, orange juice, cactus, cucumber and agave nectar. Sooo good. They also have amazing chicken tacos for less than $2 each! Their Mexican food is so flavorful and you can tell they use quality ingredients. I also love that you can buy freshly cut mangos, papaya, watercress, etc. for cheap in their produce section. Affordable prices for authentic, delicious food! I realize everyone is short staffed, but when you factor in the poor to mediocre food it was just disappointing. The food came out at separate times and was just "meh" for pretty high prices. Had a horrible experience with this place and Grubhub. The driver was an hour late so food arrived dead cold. The bottom of the brown bag soaked with sauce from the food. On top of that salsa tested and smelled horrible, I could tell it was more than a day old. Same salsa was added to their guacamole so it tested as horrible and impossible to eat. I did only a bite of that guac and everything had to go to garbage. And even if it was just a bite it still gave me a horrible stomach ache right away. So disappointed! Will never come back to this place or order online with grubhub. read more

Lost in Translation + Incommunicado. A Kosher Mexican deli sounds awesome but I won't mince words, I LOVED the food, but the service and severe lack of even mildly attempting to listen or respectfully communicate with customers made me want to gouge my eyes out with a melon baller. I still don't understand what the hell happened on our visit. Get it together, Isaac & Moishe! Your ish is totally deserving of 5 stars, but with the experience I had, this review is lucky to have even the 2. Walked in super excited, greeted by the guy behind the reg but then got ignored by the girl at the deli, who saw us come up and immediately turned her back. A few moments later the guy from the register walks over and asks if he can help us, THEN the girl decides to stop what she's doing and turn around to stare. There's no clear ordering system and apparently their menu is a free-for-all (see below). I tried ordering the veggie sandwich and he said 'okay,' then I ask if they can make it a sub, since the sign on the wall says there's a special on sub sandwiches that day. The guy says 'yes', and asks me what else. I say I also want to get 3 of the tamales shown on the back menu wall and he sighs like I'm the asshole, and tells me I have to go in back to order that, even though I was just back there and again ignored by employees. Oy. I go in back to order and realize that the guy behind the tamale case speaks pretty much no English and unfortunately I don't know any Spanish so we were left with a lot of slow talking, hand gestures and pointing until we finally figured out that they were out of two of three of the tamales we'd wanted. I ended up getting the raisin tamale and a very un-mild jalapeno. Then we tacked on an avocado and egg torta for $6 more. If you make it to I&Ms, do get all of these things, but make sure to bring your Spanish or ordering might not be worth the mega frustration of playing charades to communicate anything. I go back up to order I&M's famous green drink that I had been meaning to tell the guy who took my sandwich order, but since he cut me off and sent me to the back of the store for tamales, I wasn't able to get a word in besides my veggie sub. So I'm waiting at the counter and again being completely ignored by the girl working... even though we are and have been the only customers in the store. Finally, this girl turns around and asks if I'm waiting on something. Well yes, I'm waiting on that veggie sub that you watched us order and I'd also like to order that green drink. Then she gets a totally confused look on her face like she didn't just stand there and watch us order 5 minutes earlier. She does a lame attempt at looking around to scope a rogue veggie sub and says they don't have that. Uhm, we ordered it... with that guy *I point to register,* you were right there watching. She says they don't have a veggie sub and then calls out to the guy who confirms that, even though he was just totally on board with the sub before. I say 'fine' and tell her we'll take the veggie sandwich. she says that's not a thing either, they only have veggie roll-ups. I point to the board where only a few lines above the roll up it clearly says 'veggie sandwich' and she acts like I'm seeing dead people. Like that totally doesn't exist on the board. We go back and forth about the existence of a veg sandwich and she says she can make me one, but it's just going to be lettuce, onion & tomato. So I tell her to forget about it because I don't want just LTO on a sandwich- that doesn't even sound good. In fact, it sounds lazy and sh*tty. I guess I figured for a place with 'fruits and vegetables' in the name and a veggie sandwich clearly on their menu, that they could do better than just lettuce, tomato and onion. Then she keeps pushing something called a veggie roll-up but I don't want a f*cking veggie roll ups. I don't know what that is and I don't want to eat it right now. So I amend my order and ask her for the large green drink. She turns around and maybe 2 minutes later, asks me what I want. Deja vu. I still want the large green drink. She puts a bunch of stuff in the blender and starts mixing it up. She turns around mid-blend and asks AGAIN what I wanted, like she's some kind of goldfish with no memory. I repeat my order and she goes back to blending. Then, I sh*t you not, with my bf as witness, she asks ANOTHER time what I ordered. Now I feel like a hidden camera crew is about to pop out. Skip to us in the car, about 5mins up the road and there's a weird chicken sandwich in our bag that we were charged for. Ugh. We head back bc I refuse to drop the overcharge and the register guy asks me if I'm sure I didn't order that. Then he takes the container that left the building and was opened in my car and hands it off to the lady who was waiting behind me in line. Gross. What if I touched it? We eat here ALL THE TIME. Since moving to highwood, it has definitely become our go-to for lunch, dinner, snacks... probably breakfast, once we try it. We have not had anything that we haven't loved. The tamales are so good and spicy (cheese and jalepeno!), the tortas are incredible, my husband loves the tacos and the enchiladas, and we both agree the burritos are essentially perfect. Plus, the mexican baked goods are always so good and fresh. People seem to really love the juice but I don't like juice, but if that's your thing give it a try? I stick to the mexican menu and have yet to be disappointed. Now I want a tortas for lunch! read more

Having grown up in a family that sold fruits and vegetables, they've opened a deli and grocery store in Highwood just around the corner from their very success full restaurant, La Casa de Isaac. The focus of the new venture is a Jewish-style deli that features all of the traditional items found in a deli. They have an extensive line of kosher-style sandwiches, salads, house-made soups, meat, fish and cheeses and bagels, bialys and other breads. They offer a wide variety of deli party trays. And their prices are quite reasonable too. In addition, they have some house-made Mexican specialties that aren't found anywhere else in the area. Their tamales are consider by some folks to be the best they've ever eaten. I'm partial to their tamales de rajas (chiles tamales with cheese, onions, tomato, jalapenos) and I think their corn tamales are great. Their house-made Mexican-style dishes tend to be what your Mama would make if she were Mexican. They have a few tables set up for dining in. The Nava's follow Jewish traditions so you won't find pork or shellfish in their store. Hours are Mondays to Thursdays from 7 am to 10 pm, Fridays from 7 am until 2 hours before sundown, and Sunday from 6 am to 10 pm. They are closed on Saturdays. read more

Very good deli. Interesting establishment. A Mexican Kosher Deli. Isaac and Moishe's is a cousin of Casa de Isaac's restaurant. It has high quality fruits and veggies. The uniqueness is that this is a blend of Mexican Kosher, as their restaurants are. Great, made to order sandwiches, nice salad bar and a large selection of Mexican staples. The star may be the hot foods at the back of the deli. Fresh tamales as well as the (in my opinion) best deal on the North Shore-- grilled butterflied whole chicken with salsa, beans, onions, peppers and tortillas for a reasonable price ($15 at this writing). Like the restaurants, they are closed from Sundown on Friday to Sunrise on Saturday for the Sabbath. I have a lot of respect that business owners take their religion seriously enough to sacrifice what should be an excellent day of business. read more

I got the smoothie while I was here as well as two tamales to go. They had a special blueberry one with the proceeds going to cancer so I got that one. No protein, just fruit, a delicious, if a little on the pricier side. I held off on the tamales to give to my family but hours later they beckoned me so I ate one and then the other hours later after it had cooled. The rojo tamales was delicious, it was everything a hot dog stand tamale would want to grow up to be. The verde though, was slightly spicier but not less flavorful. I am so happy that I have had the opportunity to finally get to Isaac and Moishe's. They have a wonderful and reasonably priced juice bar. The green juice is absolutely amazing! The selection of juices is great and they have many unique ingredients should you feel like trying something new. While my juices were being made I looked around and ordered an avocado torta. It was delicious! I wasn't sure what would come in the sandwich when I went home to eat it but it was full of cheese, tomatoes, onion, lettuce and of course avocado! If was fresh and delicious. I need to go back ASAP to get another one!! They don't have a large produce selection, however, the fruits I have purchased (pineapple, mangoes and avocados) have tasted so good. The mangoes were literally the sweetest things I have ever eaten! My mother purchased breaded chicken cutlets from their butcher area to cook at home and said they were excellent. Overall, I think if you are in the area of would like to try a fun, quick and inexpensive place I think you should check out Isaac and Moishe's. Love this place. Totally feels like your typical family run la tienda. What makes it even better is that on the inside is a mini restaurant. Each day has its own deal. For example Monday is 2.99 burritos and Wednesday has $1 tacos for barbacoa or ground beef. Their menu is extensive and involves both Hispanic and American dishes. They have an extensive juice menu at very cheap costs. It's unbelievable that such a place with these prices exist in the north shore. As you sit, you have the typical condiments provided for you, but they also bring out the green sauce and red sauce. If you order take out they will kindly include those sauces in your order in small cups. I would highly recommend this place. It tastes fresh, clean, and healthy and people are nice here. read more

It's important to say up front that this place is completely random. The combination of Jewish Deli and Mexican food in the same place makes no sense. And that's glaringly obvious when you walk in the door. Do not be dismayed! Random in this case equals delicious. Granted, I was too seduced by the $.99 Wednesday Taco special to try their tuna salad (they have three kinds!) so I can't speak for the deli half. But the Mexican half is terrific. Hot chips, crazy fresh guacamole and those perfect small tacos served on a double corn tortilla. There's also a small grocery store with a huge variety of things, especially imports. There is no ambiance to speak of and the music is too loud. But I will definitely be back. And I will encourage my friends to give it a try.
