Been here a few times now, all I can say is this is hands down some some of the best food I've had in Sacramento and it's not even close. It's surprised me since day one and I've continually tried different items on the menu and it blows me away. 4th time here and I'm finally trying the shishito peppers and they are amazing. Filipino food in Carmichael? AND there's vegan options? AND there's cocktails? You better believe I showed up in October (aka Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge month) to see what Palo Palo had to offer. Well, there was plenty! First off, if you know Carmichael, you'll recognize this restaurant as occupying the old El Papagayo space. They've remodeled it into a sports bar kind of vibe. There's big screens, a central bar, and even bar games mounted to the walls in places. We were given a tasty appetizer of grilled shishito peppers to nosh while the rest was prepared. We tried the mushroom palostyx, "cali"flower sisig, and pancit kenton from the Vegan Chef Challenge menu and added in one of our server's personal favorites from the regular menu: the Any-Haw with bekool express sauce. With added crispy tofu of course. The food was very flavorful and we enjoyed it all, with the standouts being the pancit and Any-Haw. Service was laid back and friendly. The only thing missing was a vegan lumpia option (sadly they have egg wrappers for their rolls here). I would for sure eat here again and recommend you check them out! read more

I've been following Palo Palo on Instagram ever since they opened. We finally made it out for an early dinner on Sunday and fully enjoyed our first visit! Service was wonderful - of course we were the only table at the time but they were very welcoming! N'laga Fries: these are definitely meant for sharing! Loved the fries they have here and the tender brisket and atchara on top was a perfect topping. Smoked Sisig Spareribs: these were pretty good but I'd probably skip them next time. I'm more of a saucy rib person but the flavor and the onions on this one are nice if you like dry rub style more. I wish they had an actual sisig dish here! Pan de Lechon: this is a lechon sandwich, and probably our favorite bite! The bread was soft and meat was surprisingly tender. It also had a kick from the serrano but wasn't too overwhelming. Ube Churros and Ube Cheesecake: delicious way to end the meal! Also appreciated that they had a kids menu! They were so nice to replace one of the sides of fries for rice instead, per my son's request. The little pan de sal sandwiches were a perfect bite for our kids. Loved the menu and the creative take on classic dishes. I do wish they had more drink options, even just fresh calamansi or mango juice. They had really unique cocktails but I don't drink so I would love to see that same effort put into a non alcoholic menu! read more

Very solid food and drinks from Palo Palo. They took over an existing restaurant space - El Papagayo, so it appears they are still setting up their space. You order at the bar and seat yourself, so it's very casual. Drink options were very reasonably priced and quite a few options. The menu is a little tricky to decipher, but all of our food was quite tasty. The sisig spareribs were the star of the show - so smoky and literally fell off the bone. The N'Laga fries had really good brisket on top. The cheese sauce was tasty, but very heavy. I'd ask for it on the side next time. The Pan De Lechon was also very good, the pork belly was crispy but soft on the inside. read more

You walk in, grab menus, pick a table, and when you're ready to order you walk up to the bar. Several tvs playing the games as we waited for our meal. We ordered the pancit walabok (vegan), smoked sisig spareribs, fries, & Kyle's rice (garlic rice). He ordered the new old fashioned and they didn't spare the alcohol. I've never liked pancit palabok but this one, was the best I've had. He devoured the sisig. Quality through and through. Now if you start off with their restaurant name, take a look at their menu names, they have a twist of humor. lol, palo means "spanking", my pancit "wala"bok (nothing). As a Filipino myself, I'm trying to find different Filipino places to try. Went with family and they absolute loved it! We loved the twist to Filipino food as it separates itself from other Filipino restaurants. I loved the little puns and play in words in the menu it makes everything so fun and distinct. My favorite was the Fili-Bistek in which the server was kind enough to make it into a rice plate instead of a sandwich so the whole family could try it. Service was top tier and I was impressed that our waiter didn't even have to write all the food we ordered down. The food is fresh and full of flavor. This was our second time here. We were full and happy! They were sold out of the Ube cheesecake and bummer! Tonight my group of 9 friends went to Palo Palo for the first time, and we literally asked for "one of everything" from the menu. What a feast! Everything was delicious! My top picks are the chicken lumpia, the Tahoe Po, the "Baka" back ribs (so rich and wonderful), the prawns in garlic butter, the Diego rice (which was red rice), and the pan de lechon sandwich. I would get all of those items again in a heartbeat. Ordering one of everything was such a fun treat. It was the first time any of us had ever done it - I highly recommend doing it once in your life!
