I went here for lunch a weekday. It has the lodge frontier look to it. I was quickly greeted by the staff, as I entered. It was very quiet. There was only one other diner. I was quickly seated. The the waiter was comically over eager. He was like one of the young comedians from the nineties. I asked about the portion sizes and started ordering.. brisket, granny coleslaw, garlic potatoes, corn bread and an iced tea. The waiter did make funny comments while I ordered. I was served relatively quickly. I got the corn bread first, it was not that great. I got my drink next. I then got the main dish. I ordered the larger size, akin to average +. The garlicky goodness from the potatoes hit my nose, mmm. The brisket was in average form, leaning to a roast beef texture. The taste was beefy and good and moist. The provided sauce did not do it for me. The coleslaw was great to balance it out. The staff seemed to be in a hurry, yet were very attentive and friendly. If they tweaked their cook and added offered other sauces they could have a home run.

My plate of ribs. 46 dollars. Rather dry.

I like the atmosphere in this place. Always wanted to try this business. Came here with my wife for dinner. The host and ser er were friendly and helpful. The request for water brought us 2 large mason jars of ice water and a wedge of lemon in each. Nice touch, no need to ask for refills. My wife got the brisket nachos. Plentiful portion, it would be better if the BBQ sauce was on the side as there seemed to be a bit too much of it already on the food. I ordered a full slab of beef ribs, with the thought I would bring some home. They were tasty, and were tender in the middle but too dry and crisp on the outer portion of all of them. (See photo) I included a caesar salad and Mac and cheese as sides. Salad gets 5 stars. Fresh and crispy greens, dressing on the side. Mac and cheese was okay but the macaroni texture was a bit soft for my taste. Wife ordered a house margarita and I had a MaiTai. Margaritas came first. It was way too sour to drink and we sent it back. My drink came 5-7 minutes later. It was okay. Wife did not reorder a drink and they took hers off the bill. Overall not a horrible experience, but I probably will not be back. Really my best advice as a grill master and frequent rib cookoff participant, do not let the ribs dry out!

8 oz prime rib tasted smokey but was medium rare and packaged very nicely, ~$23 after tax. 1/2025

For most people, I'd say Back Forty should earn 5 stars. I'm neurodivergent, have a trait, HSP. I process scents and tastes (and sounds and lights) more deeply than most. And I greatly dislike any smoked food. I skipped tri tip because they smoke it. I opted for prime rib. Turns out, it's smoked, too. Or, it has a strong flavor of it. It bothers me a lot. So for that, I'm probably not going to return. However, the building is super fun to enter, inside I like it is nicely lit and decorated. Frances, she was great. The young man answering the phone doesn't have a clue about the menu. When I arrived, there were way too many staff and I'm wondering if any besides the lead really know the menu (weights and how cooked). Not same standards I was raised with and I'm not that old! My recommendation to the company is to place the weights of meat portions on the menu. And mark how it's prepared (smoked, smoke flavoring added, grilled) and cook temperatures available (rare, medium, medium rare, etc) because your employees don't have a clue. The price for my 8 oz prime rib, 2 sides, and bread was quite fair, $23 or so. Bummed that reviews say cornbread isn't good. Frances hinted it's not great, so I said surprise me (I didn't want white bread). The banana bread (no nuts) was delicious but my cornbread craving can never be satiated enough. lol! I loved the fried okra.

Back Forty Texas BBQ did not disappoint! We tried the pulled pork, hot links, salad, potato spuds, and jalapeño poppers--everything was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, flavorful, and had just the right amount of smoky goodness. The jalapeño poppers were a standout, packed with flavor and just the right kick. The only thing we didn't love was the okra, but with everything else being so fantastic, it didn't even matter. Great service, great food, and a great experience. We'll definitely be back! We had Frances for a server and she was really sweet and kind and nice and the whole inside and outside just looks great

Fried picked, pork ribs, brisket all delicious. Bbq sauce on it was amazing as well.

All was amazing. Been 5 years since I've been here. It feels like it had gotten better. No complaints and then servers have been friendly. Absolutely will come again.

    BEST BURGER IN TOWN!

We are regulars here, now. Galinda and Tim have re-mastered the place to include outstanding staff (Kevin should give classes at the local junior college), a great atmosphere , and 14-hour smoked brisket and ribs that melt in your mouth! We have brought friends, family, and business associates and plan to use their amazingly flexible catering skills (parties from 30 to 300) at our next gathering. Most recently, we went and got burgers, just cause we were in the mood. Hands down , the BEST burger around. Truly "cooked to order" (medium rare WAS medium rare) with big slices of tomato and onion and fresh leafy lettuce on a bun that was toasted and actually held together throughout the entire drippy, yummy, juicy burger-eating process. I had yummy Mac & Cheese and my BF had Texas Steak Fries that were really good (I hijacked one or two). This is now our go-too burger place as well as our barbecue must-have joint.

Back Forty Texas BBQ has been one of my absolute favorite BBQ spots in all of California for the past 15 years. My family and I have been loyal customers for over a decade, and we keep coming back because it's just that good. Ever since the Orlov family took over a couple years ago, the restaurant has taken things to an entirely new level. The quality of the food, the attention to detail, and the customer service have all significantly improved. You can really feel the pride and care they put into running this place. The beef brisket is simply incredible...tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Honestly, all of their dishes hit the mark. While takeout is great, I always recommend dining in. The atmosphere of the restaurant, combined with the warm service, makes for a full experience you just can't get from a to-go bag. If you're craving real BBQ, Back Fortu is a must..

    Sliced Tri-tip sandwich

Back Forty doesn't play around. You walk in and the smell grabs you by the collar--wood smoke, meat, something sweet and tangy lingering in the air. It's not subtle. It's also not optional. You're eating BBQ now. We got the tri-tip sandwich because obviously. Tender, juicy, kissed with just the right amount of char. The roll held it together like a champ until it didn't, which is when things got spiritual. Saucy fingers. Zero regrets. Chef's kiss doesn't even cover it. Also grabbed the pulled pork potato skins, which are somewhere between appetizer and full-blown life choice. Crispy, cheesy, porky little boats of happiness. Hot enough to hurt your mouth if you're impatient--and I was--but worth it. Now. The garlic mashed potatoes. I don't even know what to say. Those puppies were silky, savory, buttery perfection. Garlic present, but not aggressive. If I had a tub of this at home, I'd skip dinner and just eat it standing at the counter like a goblin. So good. We come here often. This place has its priorities straight.

I arrived around 3pm. So keep that in mind. I will say, coming in, everything smelled wonderful. The woman at the front desk was really nice. Answered all the questions I had. I offered the trinity, because I just couldn't make up my mind. I got the garlic mashed potatoes and the Mac n cheese. And a cornbread roll at the recommendation of the woman in the front. I took this to go, as I was in the middle of a class. The food came out within 5 minutes. I was only about a 3 minute drive away, so it's not like I drove for 45 minutes before eating this. The Mac n cheese was soggy. Like, the noodles were overcooked. It was pretty meh. The mashed potatoes were just okay. The chicken was dry. I actually gave it to the dogs. The brisket was really dry. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious though. Again. I came at 3pm. So maybe it was an odd time to come. Everything is old from lunch or something? I would come back for the ribs. Maybe I would try the brisket again but come at a more normal eating time.

Fresh and delicious and service was so fast and everything came out perfectly cooked

The owner is an incredibly kind, genuine man from Atlanta who brought authentic Southern barbecue to Folsom, and it shows in every bite. This isn't just another barbecue restaurant; it's the real deal. The beef ribs are my absolute favorite. They're perfectly smoked, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. Honestly, I've tried just about everything on the menu, and I have yet to find anything that wasn't amazing. Belly Barbecue is in a league of its own, and there's simply nothing else like it anywhere around here. The only downside to Belly Barbecue being so amazing, they run out of food! But that's what happens when you make barbecue this good; people line up for it. My advice: get there early, because once they sell out, they're done for the day. The line was long when we came in, but moved quickly. The bigger problem is that there aren't nearly enough tables for how many folks were dining in. For about $70, we got two kids' meals (one slider and one chicken tenders), a shareables order of the tri-tip tacos (that my wife ate as her entree), and a two-protein platter with the pulled pork and tri-tip. They asked how we wanted our tri-tip cooked, and we answered medium, but all of the tri-tip came out well done. The flavors of everything were good, though, and the portions are substantial. The kids' meals are a great value. The two-protein platter was enough for two meals if you wanted it to be. The tacos were filled generously and were very tasty. I enjoyed the coleslaw- though I read some others find it bland. I did not think that at all. I really enjoyed the selection of sauces available at Buckhorn. They have a pump-your-own-sauce station with several types of BBQ sauce, horseradish sauce, ketchup, and spicy ranch. Yum! My favorite was the mustard-based BBQ sauce. Overall, I would totally return to Buckhorn. I could probably lean 4 stars here, but I think it's a better spot for BBQ than many others in my area and in the Roseville area that I've tried. I had questions about the food and their menu and she was very patient going through all of them. She introduced me to pitchi pitchi which is a sweet and salty cassava dessert that reminds me of mochi. The cheese threw me off a little, but I read that sometimes it's served with coconut flakes. I ordered two halo halo desserts, two combos, the cassava dessert, upgraded the rice to garlic rice, two orders of lumpia, and picked up a couple of calamansi drinks and garlic peanuts as a snick snack. Total bill plus tip was over $100. The menu changes every day, which I think is interesting. And every Sunday they serve lechon for $18 a pound. Check out their Facebook page for updates in case I got this information wrong. For the food, I had half pancit and half rice. I had adobo chicken, butter chicken, and two pork dishes that I don't remember the name. I like that the pork had a good combo of fat and lean meats. I wish I could've eaten it there but we had lunch and then decided to stop here. I felt like the food being warmed up after sitting in the fridge for a bit, It kind of made all of the entrées taste similar to each other. Next time I will vary my order, like I'll get a saucey dish, a sour soup, and a bbq skewer. All in all the food tasted very homey and delicious. It's heavily seasoned. I can see myself ordering lumpia and pancit to a party. Can't wait to go back and try their lechon and pork belly.

Hubs had the brisket and wolfed that down before I could swipe a piece. Darn. The potato salad was tasty. Slightly tangy, which I really liked. The place is family owned and operated. It's a sports bar and family friendly bbq joint. Giving off family friendly vibes. But hey, a bar and family friendly? Yes. They both co-exist harmoniously. Talking about sports. The TVs of course are tuned onto sports. All of the screens are strategically placed throughout. They even have framed signed football jerseys from USC Trojans, Denver Broncos, and 49ers to name a few. Pretty neat.

It was packed when we arrived and we only waited 15 mins with the waitlist feature. The staff seemed calm and focused even given how busy they were. Everyone exiting thanked them for how wonderful the food was. Jacklyn R. was our server and she came by right after we were sat. She did a great job explaining how things work and recommended drinks and entrees based on what we liked and what was popular. When our food arrived (quickly!), I was missing my horseradish. She took one look at the table and knew it was missing, and immediately brought me two different kinds to try. Absolutely great service, and she was on top of everything.
