I've been taking my daughter here in the past and never had an issue up until today. The dentist got us in 30 minutes late past our appointment time but they were short with us and rushed us out towards the end of the procedure before I could ask any questions. The dental assistant seemed really impatient and agitated--she had bad bedside manners and was unprofessional as she told my daughter to quickly pick her prize because she needed to leave. read more

It hurt. My daughter came in for a cavity filling and was very much in pain with the results. The dentist did not care to wait for the numbing medicine to take effect. Right after the numbing was injected, she immediately began working, and my daughter was sitting in pain until she finally said something to the dentist about the pain. Shortly after the second dose was administered, she began working again, and my daughter was too scared to alert the dentist that she was still in pain. When I tried to talk to my daughter about what was hurting, the people working the desk were rushing me to check out. The system of this office is deeply flawed, rushed, and lacks consideration and attention for it's patients. read more

Awesome dentist, very clean, professional and amazing with my three kids

Both my boys (6 and 10) have been going since they were 1 years old. The cleanings appointments were always fine and their hygenists are very good, even with very scared children such as mine. BUT..... the moment we had to get more than simple cleanings, it all went wrong. Last august, my then 5 year old had x-rays done, my husband was at the appointment, I wasn't. Then the dentist looked at the xray and told my husband that my son has 6 cavities, (that she hadn't seen while looking into his mouth), and immediately made a plan for doing several filings and crowns at Shady Grove, under general anesthesia as it was so much work to do. I was shocked when my husband got home, but I am not a dentist, so I made the appointment, pre-op visit, covid test at shady grove, and on the day took my kid to the hospital at 5.30am for a 7.30am surgery. They gave him the "pre anesthetic" syrup that makes him calm and loopy, and THEN the dentist came to tell me that she had to look at my child's mouth, as the x-ray did not match the treatment plan..... She looks into his mouth, confirms visually my child has no cavities, (and tells me that with this much work there would be visible decay, to the naked eye) just as it shows on the xray she just reviewed..... It turns out that on the day he was diagnosed, the dentist (her colleague) had read SOMEONE else's xray....... and never looked into his mouth to double check. Why did I not leave the practice there and then???? good question.... Both my kids were comfortable during cleanings so I gave them another chance. Fast forward to last week, I took both kids for a cleaning, and they decide to give me 10 year old xrays. He complies, then the dentist says he has one cavity, but that the plan is to just "watch it" as it is on a baby tooth. He then goes on to another room to have sealant applied. I ask the dentist (different dr from the one who just told me about the cavity), to please show me the xray, as I am now weary of mix ups. She pulls it up and tells me yes, "he has 2 cavities, and need to have them filled". Hmmm what?? 2 different diagnosis, two very different treatment plans in the same practice in the space of 5 minutes!!!!! I then ask her to go get the other dentist and to please explain...... They both come back telling me they agreed that one was too aggressive in treatment and the other too conservative!!!! ANd they write me a prescription for high dose fluoride toothpaste to try and manage the cavities, as a compromise to their first opinions.... I leave the practice with zero faith left in them. Either I am the unluckiest person in the world to have my kids misdiagnosed at two different appointments, or I am not the only one, but I am the only one who asked to be shown the xray and for a second opinion. I have officially left the practice and will take my kids to a much smaller practice where we are not treated as a number and where we don't see up to 6 different staff/doctors in one visit. read more

Good day, I wanted to take time, to give an accomendation of the Dental, Hygienist, Dental assistant or Dentist, that saw my daughter, other day. Please excuse me, I do not know, what her title is, however I do know, her name is Jenelle. I heard the New York accent and she did inform me that she is from New York. My daughter is (12) years old and her appointment was yesterday, 07/11/23 at 9:30 am. She did a "Dental Hygiene," information/ educational session with my daugher before, as well as during the session. It was not like sometimes when one goes to a typical session. She got my daughter's attention, rather (to me), she captivated my daughter, so much so, she was actually listening to her. So, I informed her that I needed that, to happen. Why? My daughter always tries to make it seem, like I am the "Bad guy," as it relates to taking care of her dental hygiene. For example, the fact that I often have to push her to try to drink more water and she sometimes, runs out of something to drink at school. What later happens at school, she is forced to drink the water that is "packed" in her lunch bag/lunch box. As, she informed her, as well that Juice and Sodas are not that GREAT for human teeth. Well, if one is going to drink Juice/Sodas, to limit it, to maybe like say a treat, "every now and then." But, she did also hear to, that she needs to make sure she brushes her teeth, afterwards, if she drinks, Sodas or Juice. Lastly, yes it was an Information/Educational session, that was not just about "Dental" education. However, it had a touch of caring, great concern and possibly even LOVE.. Maybe, Love is not the best word...But, I hope, that those reading this, get the picture. Lastly#2, I appreciated her so much, I went and got a MASK and asked her first, if she would allow me to give her a little hug, like a "Church hug," meaning not real/or too close, especially since we are coming out of COVID#19, though the disease, still Lingers. I came to this dentist expecting good things based on the yelp reviews however left disappointed and have not been back. I took my 4 1/2 year old here for an annual check up knowing that he had a cavity between his two front teeth. His last dentist said that because he was older that we would just wait until they fell out on their own. The dentist who saw us here wanted to take a very aggressive treatment plan and do a double root canal. On both front teeth! Mind you these are baby teeth. The dentist said that they had to fill them or else the root would absorb incorrectly(!). She also said she found 4 other tiny cavities in the x-ray. Which made no sense to me since I work in a medical profession and my son goes to the dentist regularly. My son and I were then shuttled to the business office where they went over the cost of all of the work he would need to get done. They wanted to bill my insurance thousands of dollars and have me take my child to the hospital to be put under general anesthesia. They made sure to tell me that I had good insurance and most of it would be covered. Insanity. I smiled and nodded and left there in a hurry. I later took my son to a different dentist who shook his head when I told him that they wanted to do a double root canal on his front teeth. He wiggled them and said they were loose and it would make no sense to fill them. He also didn't find any of the other cavities. I would definitely not recommend this practice. It seems they are only after $$$, and take needlessly aggressive treatment plans. read more

The entire staff including the front office and hygienists have gone above and beyond to ensure the kids and parents are safe and socially distanced. She had a full exam including x rays and they were patient with her and tried different approaches. Cannot say enough good things about this place. Yes it is super busy and always full of patients but the time spent is quick and efficient. They treat the children like small adults and reward them for good behaviors with a rewards card which means my daughter keeps the card in a safe place and remembers to bring it back all while looking forward to ACTUALLY going to the dentist which is a trouble for some adults (like me!). We are working towards earning a gift card! The Front Desk staff is great and they seem to be on top of what they are doing which isnt always easy. Have been coming to Dr. Camps Ped Dental Center for years now, its a very clean, very child friendly environment. Waiting room is chock full of things to keep kids busy while they wait (TV, books, computers with games, toys, etc). Sometimes we've had to wait extremely long, sometimes we are called back before our butts fully hit the chair. It does have a bit of a factory feel to you, but it is efficient in moving and seeing a lot of patients around at once. All the hygienists have been great with my now 11 year old son, Dentists are kind, we've had some fillings, a tooth pulled, and many many cleanings done and have never been handled with anything less than gentle care. My one complaint is the front desk operations, they aren't always the friendliest, its sometimes hard to get an appt and they literally harass you to ensure you're coming in. Our last visit they called me three times in 24 hours to confirm the appt. Also, God forbid you have an emergency and have to reschedule at the last minute, visit before last I had car problems the morning of and I was asked "well when will you get your car fixed? Can you come this afternoon? " Laughable. But overall the treatment and care we get from the back office overshadows the front desk annoyances. Wouldn't take my son anywhere else. read more

We first came to Dr. Camps as an emergency patient. My son had run into a pole at school and cracked his tooth (perm) in half. Dr. Fields was the attending dentist that day. The staff was amazing. Dr. Fields was able to re-attach the tooth and 6 years and 3 stages of braces later the tooth continues to be healthy. My first impressions of the office continue to be how child centered everything is. The bright colors, friendly staff and the fun season decorations are a plus. I have always felt (and my kids, too) welcomed and comfortable. The new office is amazing!!! read more

All 3 of my kids go to Dr Camps. They are the nicest people. There's a employee at the door that checks you in and you never have to wait long in the waiting room to be seen. When my toddler chipped his tooth, he was able to get a appointment right away and thank goodness his tooth is ok! was referred to Dr. Camp's by my cousin who takes her son there. I was in the process of switching dentists due to a problem we had with my child's previous dentist. She was already scheduled for a procedure but i wanted a second opinion. I called Dr. Camp's and they had an appointment for the following day. I went to her appointment which was only supposed to be a consult and when i was there and the dentist looked at her teeth she asked me if i would like the crowns to be put in that day. I was shocked because usually i have to wait for an appointment like this but she was able to do it for her right then and there. I was a little worried because the last dentist attempted in-office procedure as well before scheduling her for the OR but was not able to do it. But i wanted to give it a try anyway because my daughters tooth was already in pain when she would eat. My daughter is 4, and Dr. Saba Sarraf and her staff were so gentle and kind and they had two crowns put in quickly. My daughter did great during the procedure also. Her previous dentist immediately stopped the procedure when my daughter began squirming. But Dr. Sarraf helped my daughter calm down and spoke to her throughout the process to let her know what she will be feeling and checking on how she was feeling. They gave my daughter prizes for her cooperation as well and gave her words of encouragement, which i believe made a significant difference. The staff was all friendly and they walked me through the entire process. I am looking forward to a new journey with Dr. Camp's and i would highly recommend them to family members/friends. read more

I just took my toddler to Dr. Camps office and was greeted by a lovely staff member as soon as we walked in! The staff is so incredibly friendly and the office is very child oriented. We waited for only about 5 minutes (we were early) and then were seated right away with Dr. Saffar. She was so welcoming and so was Ferne, her assistant. My son was a bit nervous and they could see this so they started right in with helping him select a toothbrush, which he loved and then showing him around the room. They described to him what each instrument was and what they would be using it for. He loved it! They were very gentle and answered all of my mommy questions such as "what kind of toothpaste should I be using?" I will always come here for my son. It just doesn't get any better than this! read more

The only reason I didn't give this dental office more stars was the long wait to be called back. Although they let me know after arriving that they were behind "a couple of minutes" that turned into a 45 minute wait. Once called back, we were seen immediately. The staff from the beginning was very friendly. I haven't been completely turned off from this facility but I hope the next time I don't have to spend as much twiddling my thumbs. I could tell by the amount of families in the lobby that the dentist here have a good reputation. One of the staff told me that once children start coming to them they see many all the way up until their young adult years. I am all about sticking with a trusted provider so that was very reassuring. read more

Dr. Camps and staff are awesome! The staff is always friendly, the greetings are warm and full of smiles. It's super convenient and there's free and ample parking. The environment is CLEAN both at in the waiting area and in the back. I have three children. This is the ONLY dentist that will see the three of my children on the same day. So, yes it is a busy place, but I am a busy Mom. Also, my daughter is Intellectually Disabled. It was always difficult for her have comfort and allow a Assistant, Hygienist or Dentist to work on her. But at Dr. Camps all of that is in the past. Her anxiety and fears are no more. My kids are always excited to go to Dr. Camps. When have you ever heard of that! So don't hesitate to make your appointment. read more

So we just came back from our routine cleaning exam and I might be now looking for a different center. I have a special needs child and Dr. Gavin was dismissive and did not feel like doing a proper cleaning for the child since she was not easy (not cooperative)... She just said all looks fine while my child's teeth had a lot of yellow plaque. She did do the cleaning upon my request but since my daughter was battling the procedure it was not done properly and some yellow plaque remains. I guess bad teeth are OK if you are a special needs child?? Dr. Gavin couldn't care less. Dr. Gavin also suggested that I take my other child, who is 4 & 1/2 and typically developing, to a hospital so that they can do x-rays and two feelings under general anesthesia because she had two cavities. Really? So it's all about doctor's comfort these days and not what's best for the child??? We did have positive experiences with other doctors at this center, specifically, Dr. Fields, Dr. Acosta and Dr. Sarraf so maybe we just need to stay away from Dr. Gavin. read more

The doctors here are super friendly which makes going to the dentist easy with kids. The kids actually like going to the dentist which I never did. They send reminders for the appt which always help. The kids get a little toy at the end which they are always excited for. And they just make going to the dentist was still, which is great when you have kids. read more

I have been taking my 4 children there for about a year. My seven year old had a spacer put in the back of her mouth where her molar, the first time we took her to get it put in it was put in, in the wrong position so they rescheduled us so a different dentist could put the spacer in correctly. We missed the appointment because we had a family emergency come up and couldn't make it. So we rescheduled the appointment and my daughter was very nervous and they didn't finish the work in her mouth. I another appointment today for them to finish the work I got stuck in morning traffic and I was 15 minutes late to the appointment so it was understandable that they didn't see but they told me I could not reschedule and they were going to dismiss all of my children from the practice because of their policy. SO PLEASE BE AWARE YOU CAN ONLY HAVE 2 BROKEN APPOINTMENTS AND THEY WILL DISMISS YOU FROM THEIR PRACTICE!!!! They don't care for their patience and now my daughter doesn't even have the correct spacer in her mouth and it's bothering her, but they don't care. Also, my 2 year daughter has to have a procedure done in her two front teeth and I have called Maria to schedule and all they tell me is that she is going to call me back. Fun for kids, Miserable for parents! Dr Camps is an impersonal and unprofessional factory. It does a good job of creating a fun environment for kids, but fails in every other respect. We have never seen the same dentist twice and they have all disagreed on treatments. There is absolutely NO continuity of care. The staff is rude to parents and unhelpful and unwilling to provide detailed information regarding your children's teeth. The dentists we have met with over a 3 year stint have never spent more than 5minutes with any of our children. In particular, Maria Martins, their hospital/operation coordinator is rude, unprofessional, and uninterested in communicating with parents. We had to schedule a hospital appointment for our child and Maria did everything she could to make the experience disorganized, unpleasant, and worrisome. When you have to send a child to a hospital parents deserve information and patience. It is also important to note that the dentists forcefully push hospital care over office care. Meaning they'd rather have you take your child to a hospital and be forced to undergo anesthesia than attempt to try to care for their teeth in the office. The dentists have virtually no patience, no bedside manner, and no interest in personally caring for children. read more

All of these negative reviews remind me so much of our own experience, when we were told our son needed a root canal at the age of 4. Two doctors were contradicting each other to me about how much medicine to give him Ahead of the appointment. We gave the Lower of the two doses that the doctors recommended. Dr Camps got involved in the procedure and then announced that he could not work with our child and we left. Never came back! You don't need to take your child to "Disneyland" for dental work. A kind, compassionate dentist can do the trick at a lower price. I really felt like Dr Camps office was trying to scam us. The other dentist said no root canal was needed or appropriate. read more

Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center is essentially a factory -- it efficiently moves kids through a common teeth cleaning space at a breathless pace. You will never see the same dentist or oral hygienist twice. I'm not sure if that's indicative of staffing turnover, or indicative of a large staff. I have met Dr. Camps on only one occasion (not as a dentist, but more as a benevolent overseer), and he was a genial guy. First and foremost, this place is a business operation, not a dental care facility. Most of the time the customer service is pretty good, but you don't get much of a personal touch, and no one in the office knows (or particularly cares about) your individual kids. My experience with the office staff has been mixed -- and I had several encounters with a scheduler that were genuinely awful, and what I imagine it's like to deal with aggressive bill collectors (except in my case, my bills were paid up). First, I was forced to pre-pay for a dental procedure. The office repeatedly called me to tell me that I had an "outstanding balance." It's not a balance if services have not yet been performed, it's a pre-payment. They made me feel as though I was somehow delinquent in my financial obligations to the dental care center and hounded me weeks in advance of the procedure for payment. Second, I was forced to cancel the procedure twice due to extenuating circumstances at work (I have a new job and was not able to get the time off to go to the half-day appointment, even though it had previously been approved by management). On the second cancellation, I gave them 48 hours notice, but was lectured that 10 days was required for cancellation. It was also strongly implied that my cancellation was resulting in other children not being able to receive the dental care they need. I felt bad enough that I had to cancel my daughters' fillings, but now I'm somehow also responsible for the health of other peoples' children? I offered to let them keep the prepayment and call it even, but I was told it wasn't about the money, but was about the health of children. The scheduler was condescending, rude and unprofessional. I rarely erupt in my conversations with people providing services, but I lost my temper with her -- I felt like I was being bullied to uphold the appointment, even though going would put my job (and continued health insurance access) in some jeopardy. Eventually, I was handed over to a manager who adeptly handled the situation, but the damage was done. I expect some degree of flexibility from health care providers, and generally 48 hours is more than adequate to cancel an appointment or procedure. My children aren't just patients at the center -- I'm also a paying customer. As such, I expect to be treated with respect and courtesy. This didn't happen in this case until I lost my temper. I expect more out of a dental center that is receiving considerable money both from my insurance company and from my own pocket. read more

My family has been going to Dr. Camps for about 7 years but we have now left the practice. In the spring, my 6 year old son fell, knocking out one tooth, pushing a second back into his gum and toward the rear of his mouth, and lacerating his gums seriously. I called the office to request an emergency visit and was told by the doctor to give my son some Motrin and to call back on Monday (it was a Saturday afternoon). This recommendation was despite the fact that I explained that he had knocked out on tooth and that one was pushed back and toward the rear of his mouth. I also noted the fact that his upper gum looked very, very bad. As the doctor spoke to me, I heard children playing in what seemed an outdoor environment in the background. The next day, that same doctor called me to follow-up and confirmed that she was out at a playground with her children at the time that I called. After being turned down by Dr. Camps practice (our practice for years), I took my son to Children's Hospital in DC. We were there all evening, getting back home around 1am. My son had to have a tooth pulled and his gum massaged back into place. He also received a prescription for codeine. When the doctor from Dr. Camps followed up with me on Sunday, I told her how displeased I was by her treatment of the situation. She was polite and apologetic, which I appreciated. Nevertheless, I was beyond disappointed by the ordeal my son suffered and knew that we would have to find a new practice. I wouldn't recommend the practice to anyone. We should've been seen immediately....but the office dropped the ball in the worst way. Let the patient's parents beware. read more

We've been going to this practice for five years, twice a year. Dr. Camps is the name only; you see a variety of rotating dentists, none of whom remember you or your child (I saw Dr. Camps strolling around the office once). I agree with everyone who calls it a factory. You do feel processed by the plastic front desk staff, who answer the phone saying, "It's a great day at Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center, how may I help you?" The dentists, who spend about one minute with your child after a cleaning, force you to show them how you brush your child's teeth and then correct your technique. In retrospect, I should have expected this factory approach to fail. And it failed us. Despite the fact that I take my two kids to this office for checkups twice a year, despite multiple x-rays, my second-grader had a cavity so deep that she had to have her tooth pulled. It was a baby molar, but she now has a very visible hole in her smile that you can see when she talks or laughs. It was very painful for her. She cried. I cried. Obviously a cavity that large didn't form overnight, but somehow every single dentist in that office missed it at every one of her appointments. The dentist who extracted her tooth suggested, albeit kindly, that the cavity was likely there years ago, but her x-rays two years ago were blurry, perhaps because she'd been moving around during the x-ray. So basically they blamed the child because they didn't detect a cavity for two years. Nice. We are going elsewhere. read more
