I drove past Dr. Dawg for several years (going north on I-43) before stopping. I am so glad I did. The Slaw Dog was my initial choice and I plan to expand my appetite to the rest of the menu on future visits (I make many trips to Green Bay as a Packers' season ticket holder). Super unimpressed. The only thing the employees were interested in was talking amongst themselves; they had zero interest there were customers in the place. I felt extremely uncomfortable as there were three employee on the customer side maybe paying for something... maybe just talking... but regardless.. they werr crowding the register and not paying attention to anything or anyone else. And an Italian beef that was in a way-too-big bun (or way-too-little Italian beef), and the beef was food service-quality. Reminded me of Buddig's brand from the 70s. Dr. Dawg equals one solid spot to get your grub on. This is a meat consortium as in they have a lot of beef to choose from. If I get over to the Glendale area this is a definite go to. I first visited the Dr. when we moved over in the Glendale area and we shopped at Pick N Save. It became an almost tradition like experience. Go get Dr. Dawg then go to the grocery store... The Vienna dog is quite possibly my favorite and it's a lot of meat to eat in one sitting but well worth it. Cheesy, oozy goodness with extra ketchup and mustard please! Just what the doctor ordered far as I'm concerned! I wish they had a location closer to town now that we live in the Riverwest neighborhood. I do not make it hear as much as I used to but the last time I stopped in I finally tried a burger and wow can't believe I'd been sleeping on only eating the Dawgs for so long. I would eat here again. I didn't get photos of my friend's dogs, but he did get two 6-inch dogs instead of one 12-inch so he could sample a wider variety of their offerings and he declared both equally awesome. I went with the two patty burger with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles & caramelized onions. Huge beefy patties, average flavor. I was starving though so quantity was perfection. The chili cheese fries I had to photograph because they were laughable. I went there with friends for the first time on March 24. Although the chili cheese dog came highly recommended, I couldn't resist the urge to order the Usinger brat (on a pretzel bun with kraut and spicy mustard). Usinger brats are the best and it was prepared perfectly with a generous amount of saurkraut and spicy mustard. It was absolutely delicious! I paired the brat with the chili and cheese fries and for about $6, you get a generous amount of high-quality fries, cheese, and chili. And, no, not the cheap, flavorless cheese sauce you get elsewhere--this had real cheese that starts to solidify as it cools! The chili also had loads of flavor. If you enjoy adult beverages, they have beer available but they also have Sprecher root beer and cream soda. The latter went wonderfully with the brat. The restaurant was clean, staff was friendly, food was delicious and high quality--all at a reasonable price. Wow. The seats ripped. The stains on tables like someone wiped everything with a dirty rag. The not caring employee at the register that was just interested in rushing my order trough. The burger with bacon fries and a soda with 15 percent tip came out to over $17. I don't mind pay it I expect a decent meal. I did not get one. We have always wanted to try Dr Dawg, but the store is 12 miles away and that is a little bit of a haul unless we are in the area. Although today we had some business nearby and we were able to give this place a shot. Many offerings than that of just hot dog combinations, but today we were set on a unique type of hot dog. I had the Dr Dawg that comes with a side of fries with every order. My wife had the in house made chili cheese on a dog. Very tasty, and the fries remind me of Five guys style of fresh fries. The dogs are all beef from Vienna. The toppings were plentiful, but I would have like more onions, but that is a personal preference. Very clean store, and the employees were very pleasant. One of the best burgers in town, although it has been consistently past the temperature ordered the last few times I visited. Fries are also very good. There's nothing quite like a good Chicago-style hot dog and since the joint in Mequon closed down (a while a go) Dr. Dawg is the best local place to go. Their Italian beef topped with hot girdinara isn't bad, either! The fries, while overflowing from the bag, are just mediocre, not quite "seriously wonderful". Top notch dog shop. We ordered online, burgers, hot dogs, fries and the Mexican sausage (vegan). The burgers were top quality, the hot dogs were authentically Chicago. The Mexican sausage was the only vegan meat substitute I've had that actually tasted good. Vegan hot dogs are usually disgusting tubes of gray matter. This was smokey and grilled and had great texture. The only criticism I have is for the French fries. The rosemary fries were not great. Both the regular and rosemary fries were more soggy than I prefer, but tastes vary. I personally prefer crisper French fries. read more

I stopped in for lunch at one and was jonesing for a Chicago dog. The menu is clearly laid out and the options are plentiful. The only thing not mentioned on the menu is their lunch special, which comes with a drink and fries. I got that. The workers were friendly, and when I asked if they home-make their slaw, the cashier went and got me a sample. I hate creamy slaws and prefer vinegar - this slaw was spot on. Had I not been set on a Chicago dog I would have probably gone with the slawdawg. The hotdogs were delivered to our table in under 5 minutes. The fries were hot and fresh and wonderful. Needed some salt - but that's easy enough for me to do. In terms of the dog...the toppings and bun were better than the meat itself. I've visited twice. The first time I had a duck sausage sandwich, which I enjoyed very much. You won't find duck sausage at any other fast casual restaurants. However, I read somewhere that Dr Dawg had one of the very best burgers in town. They were right! The burger I had was cooked perfectly. Went back to try dr dawg another time. Tried different food a differant time of day. I got a beef and motz sandwich. It had plenty of beef and cheese but had no flavor to it. The bread was kind of mushy and again had no flavor. My daughter had the rosemary garlic fries which smelled great. But were barely cooked and were very very greasy. They came hot and smelled great but when I tried eating some they seemed about 1/4 actually cooked. The staff was very nice. Food came quickly. So I wanted to try again and had a better experience than the first try but I am still not impressed . Maybe I will try a chili cheese dog again and see if they have improved. Never again will I eat here. I do not know what made a difference between Greenfield and Glendale's location. Greenfield never gave us food poisoning. They closed their doors. Do yourself a favor and get the chili cheese fries. SO GOOD. I've tried the chicago dawg and the slaw dog. Chicago dog is delish minus the hot peppers on them which are kind of hard to eat. The slaw dog was good but I had a hard time keeping the slaw on the dog. It needs glue between slaw & dog....like some nice whole grain mustard. 4 stars only because I think they need more dawg options . There's only a handful of different kinds of hot dogs you can order. Pros: Great customer service, right off the freeway and very clean and modern interior. It was raining outside, and three of us were waiting outside for Dr. Dawg to open up shop at 11am. They were kind enough to let us inside a few minutes early to get out of the rain. The food was good and I had very little complaints in that regard. Cons: The fries were natural cut which is great, but rather soggy vs. crispy. This could be a personal preference, but it just did not seem right. The sprecher root beer was also running out, which was more so a bummer than a complaint, because it is so good. The prices are bit high for what you get, at least in the hot dog department.
