Growing up in Rhode Island, I always thought of Meeting Street as a school for those with disabilities, but I didn't realize it was SO SO SO much more than that - it's a wonderful place for all children. From my very first meeting with the director, Miss Ange, I was very impressed - she addressed my concerns perfectly by saying they were used to addressing children as individuals and finding ways to meet their educational and emotional and physical needs. So if my child has a "high energy quota" (as she put it so wonderfully), they'll find ways to meet that proactively as an educational obstacle rather than try to force him to fit a certain mold (sit and listen) or punish his energy just as a behavioral problem. And they've met that every step of the way. They've got a wonderful playground that they use frequently, they have lots of physical activity including gym class (which is accessible to even his classmates with physical limitations), and they have an indoor sensory gym that allows for him to get his wiggles out even on rainy days. He's quickly learned that his energy isn't a bad thing, but how to channel it into the right directions so that he can be a good friend and classmate, and a good listener and nice student. His preschool teacher, Miss Abbi, has amazing energy and has managed to make great progress in his listening and socialization skills in the month he's been in class. He is now much more independent in putting his clothes and shoes on himself, he sits for quiet time when instructed to do so, he eats more foods than he did before starting school, and he's much better at interacting with other kids - asking to take turns, including others. I've also loved the app they use - it makes it easier to know when they've been checked in and out if someone other than me is doing it that day, and they send notes and photo updates throughout the day so both their Dad and I can see what they're up to at school. I fully believe my children (I also have a toddler who is also doing wonderfully) are better for being in such a loving environment where each child is an individual and loved for who they are, for having friends who may be different from them. It's a wonderful place, and I'd pick it every single time over and over as the childcare option for my kids. Every single day, my kids beg to go to school and hold hands and run into their classrooms with smiles and not a backwards glance at me. That's the best reward, knowing they love being there every day.

So if you have any concerns about your childs developmental progress give this place a call you wont regret it. They do help with more than speech as well. They have Ocupational therapists, educators and nutritionists just to name a few. Sooo. Super. Grateful. For this place!!! Thank you!

They show deep understanding of their students' individual needs and consistently treat them all with immense care and compassion. My children adore all three of their teachers. While the warm, caring environment is where ESNS shines in our eyes, the way they teach students is also remarkable. Many schools learn through play on paper, many learn to play in action as well, and do a great job of "tricking" kids into learning. Somehow though, ESNS tricks me, too. I rarely see the academics happening and suddenly my child comes home and knows how to write his name and his brother is telling me which two words rhyme. Their learning through authentic play, wholesome approach to teaching critical social-emotional skills, and opportunity for students to build advocacy and have choice are among the many reasons East Side Nursery School has been so fantastic for our family.

When it came time for our 3 yo to go to school, she was a bit nervous and COVID had limited her social interactions. Once she got to school, however, she thrived. The teachers at ESNS are fabulous. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school. As a public school educator for the last 17…read moreyears and a certified reading specialist, I was extremely particular about the school that my child would attend. I knew that I wanted a school that practiced the Montessori philosophy with fidelity as it aligns with everything I have learned as best practices in my years of Orton-Gillingham training and graduate education in literacy development. The teachers at Montessori Children's House have the level of knowledge and expertise that I aspire to, and they are masters at their craft in every sense of the word. As a parent, I have seen how my five-year-old--who had been a reluctant learner--has learned how to read words, sentences, and books and write in cursive. She has been completing addition and subtraction problems with four-digit numbers as well as multiplication equations. She has learned about continents, countries, and cultures, with regular presentations on specific holidays such as Diwali in India, St. Lucia's Day in Sweden, St. Nicholas Day in Denmark, the Lunar New Year in China, Purim, Holi, and the Bengali New Year delivered by class parents to name a few. My child has held a snake and eventually, the snake's babies, while also caring for guinea pigs and raising chicks and butterflies. She studies Spanish vocabulary, creative movement, sewing, weaving, and painting. While this school offers a phenomenal academic education, the lessons they offer in grace and courtesy, executive functioning skills like planning, organization, goal setting, sustained focus and attention, and self-management (tenets that are built into the Montessori approach) are invaluable. I know in my heart of hearts, as an educator, that this type of education could have impacted my own students' lives greatly, and it has been one of the greatest opportunities that I have been able to give to my child; I know that this school is setting her up for academic, social, and emotional success long-term. Perhaps my favorite aspect of this school, however, is the tight-knit community that we have here. My child has made friends with children who are kind, curious, imaginative, joyful, and from countries all around the world. The parents are equally kind, curious, and joyful, and we have enjoyed many school events at local parks conversing and nurturing our children together. Enrolling your child in this school is an investment in their future that is truly priceless.

Here's why: 1: location - I'm a 5 min drive away from home/15 min walk and 10 min drive from work. It matters. A lot! Carrying 3+ bags everyday: purse, lunch, pump, diaper bag, big baby in carrier, you know sometimes I stop home first to drop it off before picking him up, and I still hate getting up early, and babies make you late to everything, so it's good to be close. (Little after the Thayer/Hope Split- parking is on the street, so not great, but always find a spot) 2: great staff: even as technical co-employees, I had never been to the site prior to needing childcare, I had just met the director. But being there as a mom, it doesn't matter if we work for the same org or not, I want a great, safe, caring place for my kid- which this place is at every turn. I've been a Y girl for 14+ years all around New England, so I knew there were good odds, that's what we do, but not everywhere is great honestly. However, the director and the infant staff are fantastic (I haven't met the toddler or preschool staff yet) 3. Cloth diapers: yes, I'm that girl with the cloth diapers and the glass bottles. All were welcome and not a problem. I know especially the cloth isn't welcome everywhere. Don't know why, I'm the one dealing with the poop at home.

The more we read about it though, the more it seemed like a wonderful place for our son. The calming atmosphere, and wonderful routine are things that our son took to immediately. He is a cautious little boy, and very wary of people and spaces, Angel Care has brought out the absolute best in him, and in turn, helped us learn as parents, as we can see first hand how he responds to the slightest changes made. The directness, Catherine Valenti has a remarkable understanding of children and their needs. He has developed so much confidence and his language skills are incredible. He sets his place every day, he shakes hands, he puts things away (within reason- he is a toddler after all!) and although he still will act out sometimes (toddler) he is able to vocalize his frustrations and we, as parents have learned to validate them and work through them alongside our son. You can see him being proud of himself and the work he has done, and it continues on at home. One of my favorite aspects of Angel Care is that they go outside all year round, and spend lots of time outdoors having messy, muddy, glorious outdoor free time. Inside there is calm, order and routine, and outside lessons continue in a way that seems to be lost in many other places. There is a strawberry patch where my son picks and eats berries. This simple act is so meaningful, as he learns where they come from, how they form from flowers, and that he must wait until they are ripe to pick and eat them. Small life lessons in the fresh air lead to rosy cheeks and long afternoon naps! I simply cannot imagine a better place for my children's early education.
