Wonderful staff! I called in 8/23 looking for a specific shoes that I saw online. (They didn't have it) It put a slight sad in my day but the lovely gentleman (did not specify pronouns. I'm sorry!) suggested I get them sent to post office after mexplaining how hood my area is and package WILL be stolen. Unfortunately...The post office is also trash so I decided to head in store. A salesperson comes over to me and we start talking about the brand. Factory worker and postal workers started wearing the brand, it was part of a uniform. I try on a pair of shoes, they are comfortable as hell! I'm told they don't have a typical leather sole but a patented technique that allows a more comfortable experience. I try on the shoe, it looks good with my jeans. Subtile and yet age appropriate, the players will know I have on Dr. Martens. I bought a pair of loafers and when I tried them at home they rode up on my heel and gave me a blister. I called the store to replace them but they said they won't do it because the return window had passed ( I was abroad in between and time flew by). But, the store person said, contact customer service, they will be able to help. So I dug up the customer service email and described the problem clearly to them and told them I can provide more info IF there is something they can do about it. I received an email (probably from a bot) asking for documentation -- photos of the shoes and of the receipt with store info. This took me a while to do, because I took detailed photos that were fairly big (in terms of file size) so I needed several emails, etc etc. After all this (about one hour of my time) I get an email back saying that, oh no, we are not "able" to exchange it, we only do that if there is a manufacturer's defect etc. Making a shoe too big so that it rides up (a problem they knew about from the start) IS a manufacturer's defect in my view. I love Dr. Martens. I have a couple of pairs and truly love the brand but the in-store service could be SO much better. It feels like if you're not white or if you don't have "the look" you won't get treated like those who do, which shouldn't even matter in this day and age. A customer is a customer. If someone is walking in your store with intentions to purchase, treat them well and treat them equally. I purchased some accessories for my boots and the cashier was so short with me. I stopped at the Union Square Dr. Martens because I was in desperate need of a new pair of boots. I've wanted to get Doc Martens for a while, but long story short, the ones I have (which were hand me downs) never fit right, and I needed some help finding the correct fit and style so they wouldn't hurt my ankle. Earlier in the day, I stopped at the location on Lexington Ave, and left because the person who helped me clearly didn't want to. This was not the case at this location--they were pretty busy, and I got help right away! Ollim was very nice and gave me helpful advice on choosing the right boot. We found the right fit and style together within 15 minutes, and I walked out with my new pair with the insoles already in them! I also got the Wonderbalm, because he mentioned you could use it for other leather products (I have some loafers that, while I don't wear them a lot in winter, I want to make sure they're protected from a random rain storm). I've been wearing Docs for 20+ years. I exclusively wear Docs (or converse in the summer). I take great care of mine and I have multiple pairs I switch up. I bought a pair two years ago, and just recently the back heel split at the seam. I've never seen anything like this before in a pair of docs. I brought them to the Union Square store. I was greeted twice coming in and then I approached the counter. I told them my story and they asked if I condition my boots. I confirmed I bought conditioner at that very location. Jackie (aka a modern hero) then asked me what size I wear and exchanged my Docs for a new pair: ON THE SPOT! She took my old Docs, apologized that I'd have to break in my new ones, but said she'd never seen Docs split and didn't think it was representative of the brand standard. She happily exchanged them, took my beautifully worn Docs, and handed me a brand spanking new pair. I may have floated out of the store because I was on cloud nine. I get compliments on my Docs ALL the time. I always tell people how I've worn them for 20+ years and how great they are aesthetically and quality wise. But NOW I will be regaling EVERYONE with the AMAZING customer service story from this past week. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that there's a Dr martens store sooooo I had to go. It was amazing, there were so many different styles of t doc martens that I didn't know nor saw. Since generally at shoes shops there are limited options for doc martens. The store has one side for the ladies and one side for the men. To me it seems like there were a wider varieties for women but that's just me. Hahaha why would I pay attention to the men's ones anyways. So from the more classic doc marten shoes such as the usually black, white, green , red ..etc there were also the shiny ones, the floral ones, there were even heel boot kinds!!! Oh and the ones that I thought that were magnificent and out of this world were the boots with the ribbon laces. It just gives the boots a more girly look you know? Docs have been a staple since the 80s, and the biggest problem I have with them is they won't die. Seriously, these things last forever and it is the last remaining leather that i own. I LOVE Doc Martens. Super comfortable shoes and boots. They now make much more stylish options that don't look as punk rock. And they even make high heels! I was so excited that they opened a Union Square store. I forgot my credit card that day, but I went in and checked out all the merchandise. They carry the best of each line here. The staff was SUPER friendly. I am definitely going back this week to buy a pair of boots and I'll be back again soon after that to buy more. This place is grand! I came here a few times to look around and try stuff on with no intention of buying anything. Yes, I hate myself too. The sales staff was super friendly and helpful though, and did not even mind that I was wasting everyone's time. Then, when I finally decided I needed to buy a pair, and had the money to do it, I went back and they were super friendly and helpful again! Let me start by saying that my visit to this store was a little over a month ago, and if I still have an impression after a month it's either a really good one or a really bad one: happy to say it was a good one. We all know what DM's are all about, so this is not going to be a review on the shoes but a review on the services received. Being from the greater Portland, OR area, I'm used to the Pacific NW, almost lackadaisical, approach to things. This is where you ask the question "is it really like Portlandia says it is?" Let me tell you now, no (cacao), it is not (cacao). In fact, just the other day, I ate Henry (the chicken) and didn't even ask if he was a free-ranger. Back to Sophie...After trying on 3 different sizes of the same shoe, I still hadn't made up my mind if I wanted to buy them. Yep, I'm that guy. Sophie was chill and said come back tomorrow and bring Fred Armisen. I brought Benny instead, and bought the shoes she worked so hard to sell. I'm sure that if I lived in NYC, I would be out having drinks with Sophie right now. That's how bitchin' she is. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the name of the person who helped me (tall guy, glasses, short dreads), but it took him seconds to figure out the problem, find a solution and 10 min after I walked away with the pair that fit me beyond perfection. The lady helping me had no issues with me needing to compare sizes and I managed to snag the last pair of a particular one that was on winter clearance in my size (a 7 though I normally wear an 8; I wouldn't have known that if I'd just stuck to my original plan of ordering online) & a cool red/black speckled pattern. It was not crowded at all though I came in at 11ish on a Monday morning so I'd hope it wouldn't be crowded then. These are my first pairs of Doc Martens and I wanted the black ones specifically to replace another pair of shoes I have that are falling apart. They don't want to listen you at all. Very aggressive sales consultants. They sold us a shoes that actually was not very comfortable and my girlfriend even tried to put bandage, but didn't help. She wore it once, maybe half an hour walk and realized it scratches her skin on her foot. We went there and they would not refund us or accept returns. even if it was next day after purchase. Big fan of this location over the SoHo one! It seems a lot less crowded, although the tight layout means that you're still bumping into people sometimes. Still, nothing too bad, and they have lots of room to try on shoes! What really sets this location apart is the outstanding customer service. Really just above and beyond. I took my sweet time trying on shoes, asking for new styles/sizes/colors, and everyone was willing to help me without a second thought. Once they realized that I was kind of between sizes, they even brought out both sizes every time, just so I had options. So nice! In general, try to have a pretty good idea of what you're looking for before you come here...maybe look online for styles/colors, because there are a lot of shoes that look similar, and it can be hard to communicate what you're trying to look for if all you have in mind is something like "brown boot." But if you really aren't sure, the staff here will work with you, tell you their experiences with Docs (they all seem very knowledgeable and have first-hand experience with the boots), and do it with a smile on their faces! read more
