I never imagined I would be writing a review like this, but I feel obligated to share my experience so others know they should always seek a second opinion before agreeing to extensive dental treatment. I initially came here because I had a painful tooth that I already knew likely needed a root canal according to my previous dentist. After beginning the root canal, I was told the decay was too extensive and that the tooth could not be saved. The dentist strongly recommended extracting it immediately. Trusting their professional judgment, I agreed. The tooth was extracted, a bone graft and membrane were placed, and I was told to return in about a week for a follow-up. Two days later, the office called and asked me to come back because they had a cancellation and wanted to take a full-mouth set of X-rays to make sure everything else looked healthy. That appointment completely blindsided me. The owner of the practice Dr. Nadi, came in and told me I had six cavities, several failing fillings, two crowns that needed to be replaced, another tooth that urgently needed a root canal, severe gum inflammation requiring laser treatment that insurance would not cover, and that I needed to start treatment immediately. For context, I had been seeing my prior dentist for nearly 22 years before making an emergency appointment with Dr.Smile, and had been there less than a year earlier and left with no problems other than eventually needing a root canal. I brush, floss daily, and use a Waterpik. When I mentioned that, I was told my previous dentist had done poor-quality work and that's why I supposedly had so many problems. Then I received the treatment estimate. With my dental insurance, the total came to $11,325, including approximately $5,200 for an implant to replace the tooth they had just extracted. The estimate also included numerous additional fees, such as multiple charges for desensitizing medication $95 each tooth for 5 teeth, expensive lab fees totaling $1,950, BioPure charges amounting to $800, laser gum treatment $600, and mandatory IV sedation for the future implant amounting to $1,000 for 30 minutes. I was overwhelmed and honestly broke down crying in the office because there was no possible way I could afford it. I explained that to the financial coordinator, who left to speak with the dentist and returned with what was presented as a solution: the treatment would be reduced to $10,000 if I financed it through Cherry at roughly $400 per month, and they encouraged me to begin treatment that same day. Thankfully, I decided to get a second opinion before moving forward. I returned to my longtime dental office the very next day. They took new X-rays, completed a full examination, and their findings were dramatically different. They told me I had no cavities, my back molar did not need a root canal, my gums were healthy and did not require laser treatment or a deep cleaning, both of my crowns were in good condition, and only one filling would eventually need attention. They also reviewed previous X-rays and told me they believed the tooth that had been extracted may have been salvageable. They have since taken over my care, removed my stitches at no charge, completed my cleaning, and will be handling my implant for significantly less than what I was quoted here, and without mandatory IV sedation. I understand that dentistry can involve differences of professional opinion. However, the contrast between these two treatment plans was so significant that I cannot recommend this office based on my experience. If you are ever presented with an extensive or very expensive treatment plan here, I strongly encourage you to seek a second opinion before making any decisions. It gave me peace of mind, and it may save someone else from going through the emotional stress that I experienced. I do want to give credit where it's due. Every staff member I interacted with was kind, professional, and compassionate. The assistants and front office staff treated me with respect, and I appreciated how friendly everyone was throughout my visits. My review is not about the personalities of the staff, it is about the treatment recommendations and the enormous discrepancy between what I was told I needed and what an independent second opinion found. read more

Absolute horrible experience with scheduling. I arrive 15 minutes late. I called ahead of time (15 minutes prior to my appointment) as I was caught in traffic on the 405. I received confirmation that I could arrive 15 minutes late for a checkup/cleaning. I waited for 40 minutes just to be told that I could not be seen that day. (Apparently someone took my appointment? So that person would've waited to be turned away??). I ask to reschedule a time that works for me, to be told that could only be for x-rays/checkup. I would have to return on a separate appointment for cleaning.... I gave Dr. Smile the benefit of the doubt as my family members had distasteful experiences there - come to find out in person as to why they refuse to go here. I don't write Yelp reviews unless something is worth raving about or is worth complaining about. My experience is the latter. I deeply appreciate her clear explanations and personable nature; it made the treatment plan and the advice for preventative measures understandable without being overwhelming. The initial exam was so thorough and feedback so detailed I had to write a review. I came in for a cleaning as a new patient and this dentist by far told me more about my teeth and what needs to be done better than any dentist. I went to see 5 dentists in the past few years due to location change and they didn't explain to me in detail the issue with each tooth. This dentist did and I found it insightful. Unprofessional. Unfortunately I have had nothing but mistakes coming here. The office staff was personable and nice but honestly it feels like the runaround and this is a business with the main objective being making money. Today was the second time an appointment was canceled. I have communicated before that when I make an appointment I will not just not show but that when I make it I am confirming. I arrived 15 minutes early to be informed that my cleaning would no longer be happening as they gave my spot away after I didn't respond to a text to confirm at 8:30 this morning and at 9:45am when I arrived I could now reschedule after I book off a day to make sure I can keep my commitments. They have no respect for clients time. I confirmed the appointment the week prior when I rescheduled to this time. Normally office staff has been personable and easy to communicate with. Today was icing on the cake and the woman was very ghetto and UNPROFESSIONAL. There have been too many errors here I have tried to over look from chipping my tooth, insisting I need a new crown (after second opinion said otherwise), I trusted them and decided to do then the tooth next to it "needed" one too, that whole experience was a joke with inconsistency with multiple rotating staff and dentist actually verbalized the previous work was bad. My teeth have not felt right since getting the work. They have stopped the ball in letting me know how they will fix the issue. Last time bad reaction from too much anesthetic and left face partially pulling to one side, months later still waiting for it to be full back to normal. This is a business looking to make money and charge whatever they can and do subpar work. They are very indirect and shuffle you from person to person in regard to billing or fixing their mistakes. My family and I have been coming here for a long time about 10 - 15 years. Dr Kayvon has done implants on me and he's guided me through the process and explained every appointment. Beware of Veronica. I've been going here for years. I went in for a regular check-up with my PPO insurance as 5k 80% deep cleaning and 50% for crowns Veronica, one of the staff members that gives out the prices, was trying to charge me 4,000 besides what my insurance pays. I immediately told her it didn't make any sense to me that it was too much, and she said, "Oh, let me see what I can do," and brought it down immediately to 2700. I still told her it was too much, and when I left the office, she called me and dropped another 200 because she had spoken to her "manager." I had never seen this lady. I referred my friend, and she was charging her 10k even though she had insurance too. She will offer you to finance. I told her money was not an issue. It just didn't make sense at all! Beware, call your insurance and find out exactly what your coverage is. I've done my homework, and I'm not going back to that fraudulent place! read more
