I've eaten sushi all over the world, including the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. This is the best I've had; certainly better than anything Washington, DC has to offer. Two fresh shipments a week, generous portions, innovative rolls, the uni can't be beat. Try the Chinese-style salt-and-pepper soft shell crabs. George, the owner, and all the staff are super friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable, too. Don't expect to get off cheap, however, if you can eat as much of this super-fresh sushi as I can. If you like to go to a [sushi] bar where everyone knows your name, then this is the one to adopt. Initially I was scared when I saw the Chinese menu - in my experience usually restaurants that don't stick to one cuisine are lacking in one or both. So I went here for the first time with my two friends and my friend's 10 year old daughter for lunch two weeks ago. The three of us had the sushi lunch. The food was great! I'm giving 3 stars because the service was absolutely awful! The server was rude and not accommodating at ALL! Just as an example, we asked for milk to drink for the little one, and he acted like we were insulting him! Ridiculous. Would hesitate to go back due to the rude service. read more

It actually happened to me twice and it took the second time for me to track it down to Dragon Chef. The second card was only ever used at Dragon Chef. This was the worst experience for take out/to go! The woman is lazy and the food is overprice! You should just go to Osaka to get the bang for you buck! The rolls are very small and I asked for extra sauce on the side and did not mine paying the extra fee which seemed to piss the woman bagging my food off. She with nastiest attitude gave me sauces that were very small sample sizes? When I asked her about the size she scolded me and pushed me off! Very unfriendly people I wish I would have just got my money back but I just wanted to leave the establishment as quickly as possible! We've always eaten on the Chinese side, but would love to try out the Japanese side of the restaurant sometime. When out of town guests visit, we take them to Dragon Chef and are never disappointed. Me and the hubby stopped in for Lunch. The food was very flavorful but not spectacular. I had the Chinese, he had a Japanese dish. The service was good and the prices reasonable.The only minor complaint is from where we were sitting (in front of the Sushi bar), it was a bit awkward and crowded, due to customers picking up to go orders and paying and so forth. Excellent food. Spring rolls are the best I've ever had anywhere. Order the fried rice with the yum yum sauce cooked into it Food is always spot on though sometimes the service is a little cruddy. They do offer takeout/delivery and a group of co-workers and I order from here a lot. We've gotten to where we take bets on whether or not we will get the "rude" one to answer the phone. She literally answers the phone "Dragon Chef, wha' you wan'?" And can be a little gruff... You just have to laugh because the food is good enough you put up with most of the crap. Haha read more

I have eaten in this place twice. The first time was okay as I ordered a Chinese dish. The second time I ordered the Teppanyaki chicken dinner. The soup with the Teppanyaki chicken was awful, a dishwater Brown concoction of very salty soup water. The vegetables were overcooked, the chicken was little brown cubes of chicken, which I could not swear was chicken actually. I guess if you are desperate for a taste of Chinese food ,or Japanese in this case , this place would be okay as there seems to be, strangely, a lacking of Chinese restaurants from Warrenton all the way to Charlottesville. Location of this restaurant is also not very appetizing as it is in a low rent strip mall called Southgate. The restaurant itself is a very small compact place which seats you on top of other diners. The Japanese part has those tables that can throw the food around in Flames to entertain the customer. All in all I would say you would be better off just to drive 30 miles down to Charlottesville to Peter Chang's, which is a top notch Chinese restaurant and the food is delicious. read more
