Tasty buffet and friendly staff... a good choice for lunch.

Old food that does not meet health code as all the food is not touching the warmer pan so it can not stay at 135 degree's .

Exhausted from a long day of travel, we sought a restaurant off the beaten path. We needed a…read morerestoration to make the last leg of what became a 13 hour journey. Mallards at the Wharf is what our GPS directed us to. The GPS just said "Mallards", so we were pleasantly surprised to see it was on Onancock Creek with boats moored adjacent to the outdoor dining deck. The hostess pointed in a vague direction to seat ourselves as she followed, but I couldn't figure out how to get to the deck and had to ask her to lead us. I thought it might put her off, but I was brain-numb from driving for the previous 7 hours. We sat in the shade with an incredible view of the boats and the creek. It was so beautiful that I didn't think the food would matter at all, which is good because it was a mixed bag. I ordered a whisky sour, with house whisky.... Whatever's in the well. Waitress didn't understand what was meant by my order, probably my bad. I was so tired that I couldn't sort my brain. We figured it out and it arrived with a slice of lemon and a slice of lime instead of a flag, so it was sour like a Warhead! We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The only thing we could taste was the oil they were fried in and the pimento cheese they were topped with. The 3 tomatoes were the thickness of a slice of Kraft American cheese and no larger than the diameter of a Pepsi can. We wouldn't order that again. Ever. We also ordered a cheeseburger, which was lovely, but wasn't served with onion, pickle, or any spread. No mustard, ketchup or mayo. It wasn't something we would order again either. Redemption came in the guise of a swordfish steak. It was grilled to near perfection, moist, flavorful and topped with cilantro microgreens. This was a delicious entree. With it was a lovely, fresh mixed leafy green salad topped with blue-cheese vinaigrette. We wouldn't go back for that dish alone, but we would go back. The menu is appealing, with a variety of seafood. I do recommend it, for the ambiance, and the swordfish. We did order a key lime cake. It was good. Not "inspired", but good. We also ordered a brownie to go. It was hot. We dodnt understand heating a brownie, when the item isn't for immediate consumption? Maybe it was hot out of the oven from being baked. I will learn to sprout cilantro microgreens, because they were excellent. When you look at the high rating, remember the rating is on "your experience", not just one aspect (the food).

Our waitress was delightful, and enjoyed the fact that one of us was her high school math teacher. The desert cake is well worth the calories. We'll be back.

I never had a pork chop sandwich, so I decided to give it a try. I was surprised to see it was none-in, but tasty for sure. I did t expect it to be just a pork chop on a sandwich roll. Wondering if I should have included toppings. The waitress didn't ask so I just went with the flow. I did ask for hot sauce to kick it up a notch. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The menu has a lot of comfort foods on it. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. Check them out!

However I would recommend having shorter nails for food service , nails looked too close to my food during drop off. The popcorn shrimp and nuggets are frozen then fried perfect for kids , not adult taste buds . The smothered pork chops were tooo tough to eat to, unable to even cut with the steak knife provided, and difficult to chew and swallow , but the gravy and onions were good (I mixed that with my mac and cheese ohh good ) . The mac & cheese and sweet potatoes were good. The corn bread, sweet tea and butterfly shrimp were amazing. The cabbage was very mushy, was able to eat some with hot sauce. The seating was comfortable And the restaurant and restroom is clean. The scent of the soap in the restroom was amazing. I would come back but only for the corn muffins.

You really can't go wrong with a dozen raw local oysters and grilled flounder. We ripped through…read morethe oysters like someone was about to take them away. Chincoteague oysters are clean tasting, very briny, and super tender. I just had it with a generous squeeze of lemon and that's all I needed. I will dream of those oysters, seriously. The grilled flounder was fresh, but a little under seasoned. It would have been A+ if it had been generously salted before grilling (adding salt at the table just isn't the same). BTW, a flounder platter has three filets - so I'd recommend sharing. The sides were also generously portioned. (Onion rings will make you happy.) We had a great server, we were glad we visited during low season because I bet this place is PACKED when tourists are around.

Maybe we'd come back to try something else, but probably we'd just leave this joint for the locals and check out another place. What we got: Cream of crab soup - 4* the best thing of the night. It was delicious and I wish it came with a buttered piece of bread I could dip in it. Coconut shrimp basket - 3* the shrimp are very coconut-y and I realized I just didn't love that. It came with 6 pieces of shrimp, way too many fries (they were only mediocre), 2 delicious hush puppies (best I've ever had), and 1 pickle (nice crunch). The coleslaw side was also good and had apples. Overall though I was disappointed that $17 got me a pretty unsatisfying dish. Fish and chips (friend flounder) - 3* average but nothing to write home about. Once again a lot of fries (obviously, it's a fish and chips meal) but they just weren't that good. The fish was alright as well, malt vinegar and lemon didn't jazz it up as much as was expected. The pickle, coleslaw, and hush puppies were the best part of the meal.

It's homey inside and I love the decor with various sea and fishing themed items hanging - kind'of reminds me of the way a Cracker Barrel looks. We were seated immediately at about 6pm and greeted quickly by the sweet, Diana who took really good care of us. Pleasant the entire meal and quick with any refills or requests we had. It was lobster night but we chose to go with several things so we could try a bunch from the menu since we didn't know when we'd be back again. They had tons of daily specials on a board when you entered and I chose to go with the fresh Halibut platter with a side salad. We did a half pound of steamed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops and a side of fries as well. Hush puppies were big and crispy, a bit too greasy for me, but they were a nice few bites to take the edge off while we waited. Served with butter. The shrimp were large and fresh - we were told fresh from North Carolina and I believe it. Some of the best steamed shrimp I've had. My husband absolutely devoured them. My halibut was grilled and was simple, fresh, and high quality. Really good cut of fresh fish and excellent size and flavor. It was around $34 for the entree. Not cheap, but delicious! Bacon wrapped scallops were good - they could've been cooked a few minutes longer to make the bacon crispy as it was a tad undercooked/soft but still good quality and flavor on everything. All in all - solid meal with good service in a charming local spot. We discussed it after leaving and decided this is going to be our go to when driving the Eastern shore from now on.
