I booked the venue for my son & DiL's Rehearsal Dinner back in March/April 2025 ..... fast forward to August, and I find out on Instagram that the venue has new owners. Do you think the original owner would have the professionalism to contact folks that had events planned to tell them ahead of time?!!? No, the answer is absolutely not. I found out on Instagram! Followed by countless unanswered emails and calls, only to get a response when I told him I was going to tell the world about my experience. Update on my 2016 review. This place has really turned around. The food is so much better! We love the chickpea cauliflower tacos, (Wish they were available every day.) Also the smoked meatloaf, Hungry Horse platter and the lobster maccaroni For the sides the parmesan fingerling potatos and tater tots are really good. The house salad is a must try too. It's my favorite restaurant salad anywhere. Drinks are good. Beers are nice and cold. Great service, attentive wait staff. In the warmer months we love to sit outside. I was anxious to see this place after working for Big Dogs in Vegas, but they had a very limited menu -with no alternative drinks besides their own homemade beers. The beers were decent, but not something I personally would want to have a lot of. Portion to price was a bit smaller compared to other places, it reminded me more of a beer tent and waiting to get your hot dogs! The server at the time didn't seem very knowledgeable, but perhaps she was new, I still tipped her well because she was very attentive and friendly. I know good service staff is a difficult thing these days to have, and it wasn't her fault. They are always busy, so what's good for some is not good for all I guess. Did i just leave this place with a case of beer... ok it looked like a case but i have four growlers. Lol! Don't judge me! I literally was driving on the freeway, show the sign and came in. I most be the luckiest person that day because their growler were 1/2 off - i'm not totally a beer drinker but i do like the explore favors. I literally told the bartender (which was super cool and patient) to picked me 4 different kinds - she asked a few questions and told me what she picked. Yup that was easy. I will say she did good - i wasn't made at her selection when i got home. None were my favorite but at the same time none were nasty so i'm happy with the results. She know her stuff - i think i'll be back to try some flights with friends. - Due covid limited seating (of course) but you have options of inside, patio, and tent (i believe). Don't you love unexpected finds? One of my favorite places to go and unwind and be in nature is Kensington Metropark. Who knew that this fun and delicious brewery was so close to the park?! We spent the last nice weather Saturday at the park and were starving when we left, plus we were looking for a place to catch the U of M game so I turned to Yelp for some suggestions. So glad we found this place! Not gonna lie, the mac and cheese is what sold me. We sat at the bar for a better view of the TV's and for some guidance on the menu. Both bartenders were so helpful! I tried the apple mimosa and it was very good. That build your own mac and cheese was every bit as good as I hoped it would be. And the chicken wings paired perfectly. Great place to chill and relax with good beers & good food! The family (5 kids ranging from 6- 4 months) ended up outside at the picnic table near the cornhole. This worked out beautifully...under a cool big tree and very nice. Oh yeah and the beer was EXCELLENT, from the porter to the IPA to the watermelon lager. Try them all. Service was great too. Just walked up to the bar and never had to wait more than a minute. Just a bit hard to find, (coming from out of town) but just make sure you don't pass the first traffic circle by. The menu has changed multiple times over the years and right now is limited and NOT GOOD! No more daily tacos which ARE good, Mac and cheese has ZERO FLAVOR compared to build your own they used to have and the new Mac turns to mortar within seconds as it's served room temp! Really disappointed tonight. I'm a regular at Draught Horse. Been going there for a couple years. Food and beer is generally better than expected for a brewery. The servers are great. I really like this place. But. Tonight I was disappointed. Wife and I arrived as they opened at 4:00. (probably a mistake). Ordered our beers and two orders of wings. Like we have done a dozen times. We started eating the wings. My wife looked at me after a couple minutes and commented on the wings. She could not eat them. The wings were very much undercooked. I've had wings there many times and they were always great. But tonight they were not good. My wife and I ate most of the wings but the drumsticks were just too raw. They were pink and wet inside. Could not pull the chicken off the bone. So we skipped these. Did not request a refund but we did notify the server they were undercooked for future reference. I understand things can happen in a kitchen. I'm not a difficult customer. The disappointment came when the GM came to the table to essentially tell me I was wrong. And she personally oversees the smoking of the wings and they were not undercooked. She repeated this two times. It would have been better if she had stayed away. I am 60 years old. I have eaten thousands of wings. And I also smoke my own wings at home. I know uncooked chicken when I see it. It was disappointing how the GM preferred to initiate a confrontation rather than thank me for alerting her to an issue. Disappointed that my favorite brewery let me down tonight. Update: Two hours after arriving home, my wife had a case of "Aztec Revenge" that lasted through the evening. The wings were the only thing she ate. My bad. Ambiance: 5/5 Place looks super cool, there's a fire pit, corn hole boards and picnic tables outside, there's the outdoor seating, and then a small but well-tabled inside seating. Love the decor, we were so excited to come here. Service: 4/5 Took a bit to get a server, but seeing them all doing stuff we weren't bothered. She was very friendly and did her job pretty well, especially as it slowed down inside. Food: 1/5 Ordered a couple beers and an appetizer. The fried pickles were okay. Gives me cheap kroger brand pickle vibe with a decent breading. Ranch was good. Got my salad and that was okay. Cheap grated Parmesan and bottled dressing. We got our meals and that's where the true disappointment was. My husband got the hungry horse. Yes, you're given a lot of meat. But when it's all dry and lukewarm at best, you know none of it was fresh from today. Reheated meats that were just tooo smoky for what they were. My husband can eat a lot of food normally.. he took most of it home, so he could sauce everything up and reduce the dryness. We had to ask for his side of Mac and cheese, which came out a while later. Mac was okay but overcooked. Same goes for my cavatappi con bistecca. Pasta was very overcooked and my steak bites were still cold in the middle. Should have known that the decor was the only real value of the place. Drinks: Variety: 3/5; price: 2/5 get people mostly just come for the drinks but even those aren't worth it. $8 for a small cider/sour pour. I can get the normal sized glass of cider/sour for like $8 elsewhere. I'd give 3 stars based on my rating average but we came to eat and it was so disappointing. We are on a mission to try the 12 Beers of Christmas over the next several weeks. We enjoy the heated patio with large TV to watch sporting events. Step outside and take a stroll to the roaring fire pit or step into the heated tent! There are so many spaces for patrons and they are still serving delicious food. Happy to support local businesses during COVID. Stopped in for the first time. All employees wore masks. My husband and I did a flight since we were just passing by for a quick visit. Beers were good and reminded us of Bell's taste. They had an outdoor seating area and a tent area for extra seating. Will definitely visit again to try other beers! read more

I have been here before and generally enjoyed, but was pretty disappointed this visit. If you make a point of being pet-friendly, and go through the trouble of having a heated outdoor tent and two additional separate heated outdoor seating areas with tables, I don't understand why you would refuse to use them when someone shows up and asks. We stopped by with our pup one day recently and they told us we were welcome to use the cold tent outside, but they would not turn the heat on for us - which is fine, but surely even one of the ten or so outdoor heat lamps wouldn't have been too much to ask. The beer was pretty fair - the chipotle raspberry porter was not well balanced, but the wild berry stout was pretty good. Not sure I'd stop back here, given the staff attitude. Plenty of other places with better beer and friendly people working. read more

We started our road trip/brewery trip here at Draught Horse. It's an adorable little spot! The parking lot was empty when we arrived, and we feared they were closed. But they were opened. Employees wore masks and social distancing was enforced. There was a bar code on the tables that you scanned and the menu came up on your phone. Nice touch! The bar was clean and really fun. They have a cute little outdoor patio area that we sat in. It was a beautiful day to sit on a patio and sip on an ice cold amber ale. Which of course is what I ordered. He ordered a double IPA. There is a tent set up for additional seating, and an outdoor draught beer serving area for overflow. They even had a spot to pick up growlers you could order on line. They had a very impressive menu, but we didn't eat. We had a lot of stops ahead of us, and didn't want to feel too full. I will definitely be back! read more

Tl;Dr: Good place to go for a beer and appetizers on the patio, not so good for much else. Pros: Eccentric and friendly staff, delicious pretzel bites, clean and warm environment. Cons: The first thing I noticed were the acoustics- the place is so loud that with only a few guests I could barely understand our server. 2/3 of our group was disappointed with our food. DHB is generally great. We go there frequently but Sunday night, Father's Day must have been an off day. If wasn't very crowded but it took an hour and a half to get food prepared. We have been coming here since they opened for the build your own Mac and cheese. We were incredibly disappointed to learn they have a new chef who decided to take it off the menu and replace it with his own version of dhb Mac and cheese. It wasn't even close to the same. The brisket was like pot roast and without all the fixings, it was no longer the same Mac and cheese we loved. Why you'd change a staple menu item is beyond me. One highlight is the wings and beer are still good, at least for now. Please let us know when you bring back the menu that put you on the map. I highly doubt we'll be back again, which is so disappointing since we have loved this place for years. read more

None of the employees were wearing face masks at this establishment. Also, the bartender was just unpleasant overall and seemed annoyed by us being there (perhaps because we were wearing face masks to protect the community and our elderly love ones?) We clearly had some questions about the beer offerings and he just kinda rolled his eyes at us. At a "real" brewery bartenders love to show off their new products and processes. I enjoyed my visit at Draught Horse brewery after riding my bicycle at Kensington Park with some friends. We decided to eat here as the weather was nice and they have a small outdoor patio. The staff wore masks the whole time we were there and the restaurant was quite clean. I felt as though I was in a safe environment. As for the food, it was fantastic. I went with the chicken and bacon tacos which consisted of: chicken, bacon, tomato, spinach, mozzarella, garlic-cilantro ranch, balsamic glaze. I was pleased with the amount of filling in these tacos. The chicken had a nice smokey grilled flavor and was tender. The mixture of the cilantro ranch and balsamic glaze really sent my taste buds on a flavor ride. I was happy with my choice. I don't remember the name of the beer I chose, but it was a hazy IPA. The flavor of the beer was good and refreshing, but less of a citrus taste. If you're in the area and need to have some tasty foods in your life, stop into Draught Horse brewery. We had tried a few of Draught Horse beers at the Michigan Brewer's Guild Summer Beer Festival, and could not get enough. We came in after working up an appetite while kayaking and paddle boarding over at Kensington Metropark; the location is incredibly convenient. It's located in a fairly small building, but they do have a nice little outdoor patio area, as well as some high tops and some bar seating inside. The attention to detail in the decor makes for a nice and comfortable environment. There seemed to only be one or two employees serving all of the tables at all times. Should you find yourself here at a very busy hour, this could easily become frustrating. We didn't really notice though, we were so absorbed in our beer and some good conversation. The servers were very pleasant throughout the night, and very knowledgable of all the menu offerings. We split a beer flight (six 5oz pours), and since we couldn't decide on what beer #6 should be, we asked our server to surprise us. Draught Horse makes some delicious beers (and also wine, which we did not try). My personal favorites were the Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout, the Cam Bam 5000, and the Red Arrow Cider. I'm a sucker for some good mac & cheese, and friends, Draught Horse has some good mac & cheese. They do not have one standard mac & cheese, rather, you create your own by choosing the types of cheeses, protein, veggies, and other toppings. Your mac & cheese can be as mild or as spicy as you'd like. When they say that the Ghost Pepper Jack cheese is spicy, they are not fooling around; It's a nice kick-in-the-mouth spicy, but if you're not TOO into spicy foods, I suggest you skip this. I am so pleased with the mac & cheese, I would come back here solely for this. Portion sizes were quite generous. We finished about half of our mac & cheese before packing up the rest to go. All in all, Draught Horse is a great place for some delicious beers, good food, and good company. read more
